Re: Television

Sons of Anarchy season 3 premiere was as awesome as the Season 2 finale promised it to be. Gotta be my favorite show still airing. (Sorry, Burn Notice.)

Powered through the first 3 season of Dexter in the past few weeks. Great, great stuff. Hoping I can get through Season 4 before the new one starts.

Still only about halfway through Season 4 of Buffy. Not hating it, but it's no Season 3. (Or 2 or 1.)

I'm watching the series premiere of Nikita, CW's attempt at revamping a certain well-known story about a female assassin. It's... not bad. Nikita's already a (rogue) assassin, but her stuff is paralleled by a brand new recuit named Alex. So we get the origin story, but still have the "current badass".

Also, the network is showing commercials for the season premires of Supernatural and Smallville, so +1 on that.

That Symbiotic Titan show as pretty darn good.
I was shocked to find out that Brian Posehn does a voice as the robot.

Why? It isn't his first voice work.

True, but I just didn't expect to hear him on it.

AARRRRGGGGGHHHH. I have the first two episodes waiting for me but I'm too wrapped up in powering through season three of Breaking Bad, which is the most ground breaking series since Twin Peaks. The camera work and editing are reason alone to love it. I am listening to Who's Gonna Save My Soul by Gnarls Barkley right now and I am thinking man, this is so Walt.

YOU KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO SAY. So I'll just let that be.

As for myself, the rest of season 4 of The Venture Brothers is rocking my world. Tonights' episode had Vatican karate gorillas; yeah, you should be watching it.

I don't think that I do other than that you will probably make a Scully bitchface at me because I skipped over TXF. I watch certain sequences in Breaking Bad and I'm just sitting there thinking what if people were (capable of) filming s**t like this back then?

I have never seen a TV series that makes such brilliant and powerful use of viewpoint. It's feature film quality cinematography and editing that feels like it sits far more comfortably beside the 1990s work of filmmakers like Steven Soderberg, Darren Aronefsky, and David Fincher. I just get so lost in how inexplicably and masterfully it balances the rawness of the subject matter with the startlingly surreal presentation. Instead of the sense of the surreal rearing up on it's haunches and staring down it's snout at you that Lynch brought to bear on Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad pulls you into a slowly unraveling world and remains just as effective at transforming the settings and institutions we take for granted as being rational, safe spaces into grotesque nightmares.

What do you get when you mix Japanese version of Ash from the Evil Dead, a 'Studio 51' game, and a touch of Resident Evil 4?

You get Shadow of the Damned

First episode of a new season, with a new storyline written by a new showrunner.

If the season is a book, we basically just got the Table of Contents.

Wouldn't that make the new Nikita show at the point the original left off? My memory is a bit foggy but I think she had just escaped when La Femme Nikita ended. In a way I kind of miss Peta Wilson as Nikita and don't want to see the newer show. Which is most likely silly of me.

BTW, Is it more like the movie or the TV show?

I just finished watching both the premires of Smallville and Supernatural last night when I was struck with hyper bordom. Smallville kind of gave me the feeling of a certain Aliens movie.

The ending of the previous La Femme Nikita was Nikita running Center, which was the organization above Section.

As far as the difference with the film... I think Nikita's origin is the same. Anything else has been left out since Nikita is already a rogue agent.
