Concerning The Last Airbender...Quote: at a casting call in Philly, a casting director had the NERVE to say this when finding extras for this movie: 'If you're Korean, wear a kimono.' There's something wrong with that.

There's something wrong with that. Not necessarily. If they are looking to fill a certain role and they need somebody who looks Korean and can wear a kimono well it just could mean they need a Korean for the part. Isn't "nation" a big part of the elementbender universe? Maybe they are looking for fire nation people, and fire nation people happen to look Korean and wear kimonos. Just playing devil's advocate. I agree that he could have put it in much better words. I mean if you cast the whole nation's extras as Koreans, a white guy prolly shouldn't be their general. Not even in the context of race, because race is nonexistent, but appearance. Appearance traits were inbred and everybody from certain landmasses had similar traits. That would probably happen in the world of the elementbenders.

TtheHero I had a look at this thread, right here. I guess I would get it more if I have actually watched the show. I don't know anything about the fictional airbender world cultures. But if they are close enough to real world cultures for it to bother people then I guess the casting director is just an a*****e. I was kinda excited for that movie too. Damn it. I didn't realize that his kimono Korean comment wasn't part of the casting. I was thinking along the lines of, we need an Irish guy in cowboy gear, not hurr Koreans must wear kimonos cause they are all Asian. But looking at it now that is prolly how he meant it.
