Mt. Moon was visible even at the beginning of the route. Snow's feet could be heard patting ahead as she started examining the surroundings. A warm wind was pushing through, making Leight's vest ripple, further exposing his belly tattoo. The sound of the wind was followed by the rustling of the grass as Leight turned to see Snow running ahead in the grass.
“Snow, get out of the tall grass. You might not like what comes out.” Leight said as he slowly was walking along the path.
“Pi?” Snow said as she quickly turned around, losing her footing. The small penguin hopped slightly to try to regain her footing but tripped and went head first into a small tree.
“Snow are you okay? Watch out behind you!” Leight said as he noticed something moving behind Snow.
Apparently Snow had knocked a sleeping Spearow from the tree. The small, now angry, bird was heading towards Snow, flapping it's wings with its beak extended. Before Leight could say anything, the Spearow's beak came into contact with Snow's stomach, sending her back a little bit with that peck. Snow whined a little bit as she rubbed her belly while the Spearow began to flap its wings more frequent to hover in the air. Snow turned and looked at Leight.
“You know what to do, girl. Pretend you are playing with me but really rough.” Leight said as the blue penguin took a fighting stance. “Now use the snow! Icy Wind!” he said. Snow then threw her head back in an inhale and forward opening her beak expelling a steady stream of snow flurry in the air towards the Spearow. The snow came into contact with the flapping bird, sending it down to the ground, its body slightly shivering. “Now, Pound!” Leight said as Snow rushed into the pokemon hitting it with the blunt side of her flipper, sending it back near the grass. The Spearow, once back on its feet decided to run away in the tall grass.
“Piplup, Pipluu!” Snow yelled realizing that she had won her first battle.
”Hm, not bad, even though this was an easy battle. I just hope we don't run into bigger trouble so soon.” Leight thought to himself as he came back to reality. “You want to go back and heal?” Leight said as the Piplup promptly shook her head. “Okay, then. Let's go!” And the pair continued on the path to Mt. Moon.

The relative silence of Route 8 was almost more deafening than the city had been, and it took several minutes before Karrigan's ears were able to adjust. Once they did, she took a deep breath, glad to be able to hear her own thoughts again. Zaira also seemed to be happy to be out of the city and she began to squirm in Karrigan's arms. "Fine, fine," the redhead grumbled, putting the Shinx down on the ground. Within a half second, Zaira was off like a blue and black rocket, chasing after something she'd seen moving in the bushes in the distance.
Luckily, by now, Karrigan had learned to anticipate this kind of behavior, and she was already holding up the Shinx's Pokeball to recall her, sighing loudly as the Electric-type disappeared into the sphere in a red beam of light. "That's the kind of behavior that leads to this," she grumbled, holding up her bandaged hand and pointing at it as though it were hard to notice. The redhead sighed and looked around. Save for a bunch of Pidgey pecking the ground nearby, it was devoid of Pokemon. There were a few trainers milling about, but far less than had been on the previous routes. "Yeah, that sounds good," she nodded, glancing around warily. "We know what I'm looking for, but what about you?" she asked, holding her left hand against her chest as it had started to throb yet again.
=-=-=-=-= Lucario folded his arms across his chest, narrowing his eyes at the boy in the hat as he fired off questions one after the other. He turned to look at Cynthia, his expression clearly one that said, "Seriously?" though the woman just chuckled, much to Lucario's annoyance.
"Yes, he is a Steel-type, and also part Fighting-type," Cynthia answered, with Lucario grunting in reply. Nearby, Garchomp just snickered, her strong tail lashing against the ground. Cynthia then recalled her, putting the small sphere away as she took in Jason's request. It was safe to say that she was a little but surprised by it, and she blinked a few times before shooting a glare at Lucario, who had scoffed. "Well, I don't mean to offend, but I'm not sure that's a very good idea," she said truthfully, but she could tell by the calmness of his voice and the way he continued to sketch Lucario that he was fairly serious. The champion cleared her throat. "I would like to see your Pokemon's abilities," she went on. "So I accept."
If he hadn't been the refined and well-mannered Pokemon he was, Lucario's jaw would have dropped open. Instead he closed his eyes and looked away, though his tendrils wavered a little as he studied his trainer's aura. Now understanding, he looked back to the boy with the hat and grinned a little, arms still folded neatly across his chest.

Amy glanced at Zaira as she was recalled, listening to Karrigan's irritable mutter. So the Shinx had been the cause of her injury. Amy only hoped that Karrigan wouldn't hold it against the Pokemon, who hopefully had learned her lesson. She offered the redhead a sympathetic smile and reached for Marshall's Pokeball.
"To be honest, I was thinking about a Vulpix, too," Amy admitted quietly, smiling a little. "They're just so gorgeous and they'd be great for contests... but I'm not sure, because I heard there could be Growlithe on this route, too." She began to walk over to the grass, the trip being brief, and listened carefully for the telltale rustling of a wild Pokemon.
Finally, a red fox-like Pokemon emerged, darting quickly towards Amy. The girl smiled and readied the Pokeball in her hand, ready to capture her third Pokemon when a loud cry startled her. From the grass emerged a light colored, bipedal Pokemon covered in bandages. It leapt at the Vulpix, tackling the Fox Pokemon to the ground before its attention turned towards the bespectacled girl holding a Pokeball. It sneered, standing up and facing Amy with a readied stance.
"Oh! U-um, hello..." Amy quickly retrieved her Pokedex and aimed it at the Pokemon. The Dex announced that it was named Tyrogue, the Scuffle Pokemon. It droned on, 'It is famous for its eagerness to fight and always nurses injuries from challenging larger foes. It is always bursting with energy. To make itself stronger, it keeps on fighting even if it loses. Even though it is small, it can't be ignored because it will slug any handy target without warning.'
"Ty!" Tyrogue barked angrily, readying its fists. Amy stared at it and the Pokedex (which revealed that all Tyrogues were male) for a little while longer, though cautious enough to hold the Pokeball up in case he decided to attack her and finally, Amy smiled.
"Marshall," she called softly, releasing the Wooper into the open grass. The Water/Ground-type grinned at Tyrogue, who tensed. The girl turned to Karrigan and flashed her a confident smile. She felt that just maybe she had found just exactly what she needed.

'Yeah, fire,' Jasper thought, having zoned out a little after hearing Scarlet's very not-surprising answer. He'd taken his PokeDex out of his jacket pocket and had slid it open, idly changing the options until it displayed only Pokemon of the fire element. Naturally the first one listed was the starter available from Professor Oak in Kanto, Charmander, and as much as it'd be awesome to raise up an eventual winged-fire-breathing-dragon, looking at the small, un-evolved lizard on his screen gave him a peculiar feeling. He liked the look of a mighty Arcanine, and the speedy-looking Rapidash, and he imagined a Flareon to be soft and fuzzy and full of spirit. The one fire type that did specifically catch his eye, however, was Magmar. There was something about it that intrigued Jasper, and now that he'd gotten an idea of what kind of fire Pokemon he wanted, he turned his task to learning the whereabouts as to where he could acquire one.
The trip between Cherrygrove and Violet would prove to be just as uneventful as the one between New Bark and Cherrygrove as by the time Jasper looked up from his PokeDex, a large tower had risen up seemingly out of nowhere, swaying eerily above them. "That place is always gonna freak me out," the bandanna-clad youth muttered, shoving the device back in his pocket. His stomach rumbled loudly and he suddenly realized it was well past lunch time, and he'd worked up quite an appetite with all the walking the trio had done. "I dunno about you two, but I could really go for some food." * * * * * * * * * * Having long since finished her sketch of the Pidgeotto, Hayley continued to lie on her stomach, watching the birds hop around and peck at the ground. This spot seemed to be a good one for seeds, worms and bugs in general. Mya continued to snooze contentedly on her trainer's back, and Hayley stretched out, closing her eyes. For some unknown reason, thoughts of the Charmander evolutionary line and fire Pokemon in general entered her mind, and she found herself thinking about Magmar. "How odd," the girl mumbled, flipping to a new page in her sketchbook and quickly tracing the vague outline of one out. She hadn't seen a Magmar in person before so her drawing was based solely off pictures and images she'd seen in books or on TV, but when she was done, she had a recognizable, bipedal creature with flames dancing across its body, its eyes narrowed into a smirk while its clawed hands seemed to be beckoning for challengers. Like all her drawings, she initialed it and put the date on it before closing the book and pushing it a side.
Some of the Pidgey had nestled themselves in the grass near Hayley, having realized that the girl meant them no ill will. A brave little female had even hopped up close enough for Hayley to pet her, though when someone had zipped by on a bike, she'd been startled and flew back several feet. Hayley had been considering packing up her things to head back into town so that she could check on Cynder's progress when she heard a commotion nearby, and the odd cry of a distant Pokemon. The sounds had set the flock on high alert, and when the rustling in the bushes suddenly drew too near, the elder Pidgeotto let out a caw, and soon they were all flapping their wings and taking to the skies. The noise had awoken Mya, who slid to the ground softly as Hayley sat up, carefully placing her sketchpad into her backpack. 'What is that?' the girl thought, straining her ears to listen.
The familiar cries of an angry Spearow - no, two angry Spearow soon filled the area, and Hayley's Rattata jumped forward, taking up a defensive stance. With Cynder out of commission, Mya knew it was up to her to protect Hayley and she bared her teeth, whiskers and ears twitching intently as she waited for the looming threat to show itself.

"Growlithe?" Karrigan repeated, scratching her chin. "Yeah, those are kinda cute too, though I don't know if I could put one up that barked all the time." The latter half of her sentence was said more to herself than to Amy, and the redhead slowly made her way in another direction, her eyes scanning the tall grass that decorated the sides of the route. Knowing my luck, all we'll probably find are Pidgey and Rattata, the girl thought. Curiously enough there was a rustling sound from the grass in front of Amy, and as Karrigan turned to look, a reddish, fox-like Pokemon darted out of the tall grass, heading straight for Amy. That is, it was heading for Amy until another Pokemon appeared, giving a cry and throwing its weight into the Vulpix and knocking it to the ground.
"Whoa, Amy, are you okay?" Karrigan called, but her bespectacled friend was already scanning the new guy with her Pokedex, which identified the interloper as a Tyrogue. Amy had released her Wooper to face off agains the bipedal fighter instead of the fiery-fox, which had since picked itself up off the ground, shaking the dirt from its soft fur. Upon seeing that Amy had focused her attention on the Tyrogue instead of her, the fox Pokemon gave a snort and started sprinting towards the girl, inhaling deeply. "Oh, no you don't," Karrigan growled, quickly snatching up Ikouma's Pokeball and letting it fly. "Intercept that Vulpix with a Quick Attack," the redhead called as the Dark/Ice-type materialized, feeling the now-familiar rush of adrenaline starting to flow through her veins.
The Sneasel didn't need to be told twice and sped across the ground, easily faster than the little fox. He lowered his shoulder, effectively tackling the Vulpix to the ground, causing her intended Ember attack at Amy's back to be thrown off completely. The flames fanned out harmlessly into the air, and the fox picked itself up once again, now glaring daggers at Ikouma and Karrigan, and it gave an angered cry, pawing the ground impatiently. "Feisty little thing," Karrigan murmured, now taking out her own Pokedex to scan the Vulpix.
"Vulpix, the Fox Pokemon," the device droned in its robotic tone. "Vulpix are born with a single white tail that splits into six and gains colour as it grows and matures. If confronted by an opponent that is stronger than itself, it will feign injury to fool the foe and then try to escape." The device also indicated that this Vulpix was female, and Karrigan snapped it shut, unable to suppress a smile, though a thought did come to mind. Amy had been interested in a Vulpix as well; what if she wanted to capture this one?

"I'm fine!" Amy called back, steadying herself. The bespectacled girl knew this wasn't a wild Pokemon, or all that common in general, since she hadn't come across it in her brief bit of research about this route. But there was something undeniable about the Tyrogue before her, who now charged furiously at Marshall. She felt as though there was some connection she should make, and looked at the Pokedex info again. Tyrogue had three potential evolved forms: Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Hitmontop, all Fighting-types.
"The dojo," Amy whispered, watching the blue Pokemon sidestep Tyrogue's Tackle attack and giggle, pleased with himself. There was the sound of another scuffle behind her and she glanced over her shoulder, finding the assaulted Vulpix and Ikouma. "Oh, thanks, Karrigan! Would you mind taking the Vulpix for me? I think Marshall and I will take on this little guy right here..." All thoughts of a new Vulpix mostly forgotten in favor of the spunky little Pokemon before her, Amy nodded with Marshall.
"Okay, Marshall, I want you to..." Amy paused, switching to Marshall's available moves in her Pokedex, but the Water/Ground-type had a more proactive plan in mind. He smiled blandly at the seething Scuffle Pokemon, mouth expanding with something. Finally, Marshall's smile broadened and the Water Fish Pokemon released a hard-packed sphere of mud that smacked Tyrogue right in the face. The Fighting-type grunted and swayed back before he regained his balance, wiping the mud from his face.
"Ty," he grunted, already charging his amused blue opponent for another Tackle attack. This time, however, when Marshall sidestepped with comfortable ease, Tyrogue slammed his hands on the ground, carrying his momentum into a fancy spinning kick that nailed poor Marshall right in the face. He gave a startled outcry and stumbled a few steps back, head shaking as if to be rid of the pain. Finally, the two squared off again, now taking their battle much more seriously than either would've imagined.

It didn't seem like the Vulpix was planning to wait for Karrigan and Amy to sort out capture rights as she'd crouched down low, and was now racing towards Ikouma, white light trailing from behind her in a Quick Attack. Ikouma was no Slowpoke and he jumped back, leering at the fox Pokemon. When Amy requested she go after the Vulpix, Karrigan's head had snapped around so fast that she whipped herself in the eye with her own ponytail. Though her eye was stinging and watering from her own stupidity, she couldn't help but grin, wondering if Amy was secretly a mind-reader. "O-okay, thanks," she said, turning away just as the little Wooper released a ball of mud right into the face of the already very angry Tyrogue. Karrigan looked back to her own pending battle. The Fox Pokemon was already on the attack again, her eyes narrowed into slits as she charged at Ikouma.
"Dodge, and fight back with a Scratch," Karrigan called out coolly, touching her fingers of her good hand to her cheek. Ikouma prepared to do just that, crouching down, but as he jumped to the side, the Vulpix skidded to a halt in front of him. Surprised by the fox's actions, Ikouma hesitated slightly before lunging, but before he could take a full step, the fox's eyes had begun to glow with a golden hue, and just like that, the Sneasel's vision turned foggy, and his mind turned muddled. He faltered and tripped over his own feet, causing himself some severe damage in the process. Pleased with how her trick had worked out, the Vulpix trotted forward. Ikouma glanced up at her through bleary eyes, vaguely able to hear Karrigan's voice calling out to him.
I think she just used Confuse Ray, Karrigan thought, her suspicions confirmed once her Sneasel face-planted himself in the dirt. He didn't seem to hear her when she called for him to get up and move away, and Karrigan frowned, still calling out to her Pokemon as the Vulpix shot the redhead a very dirty look before she reared back and released a small burst of flames onto Ikouma's back. Karrigan winced, having never heard Ikouma cry out like that before. "Come on, Ikouma! Snap out of it!" she called, trying her hardest to ignore the smug look the haughty little Vulpix wore.

Stage-splitting was definitely the word for Poliwhirl's frenzied attack, and Riza watched, her grey eyes filled with worry, as her swift Pokemon easily evaded yet again. 'Slamming his fist through the floor like that has got to be causing him some pain,' the raven haired girl thought, but she wasn't going to assume anything at this point. She wasn't sure she'd heard him correctly, but she thought Crenu had called her a devil or demon or something along those lines, and she stared at the blonde, silver clad boy from across the stage. "What's going on with you?" she called finally, unable to hold back anymore. "Crenu, you're scaring me! Please! Why are you doing this?" Very rarely seen tears had formed in the corners of her eyes, and had started to trickle down her cheeks and causing her mascara to run ever so slightly.
Akima, meanwhile, had already figured out that something was wrong, but she was far too concerned with not getting squashed by Poliwhirl's attacks to really do anything else. She'd managed to distance herself from the tadpole Pokemon again, and on Riza's command she unleashed a flurry of glittery, frigid air, able to understand why her trainer had called out for Icy Wind. While the attack wouldn't do much damage at all, it had the benefit of slowing down its targets, and it would make it that much easier for Akima to avoid Poliwhirl's deadly Brick Break and Body Slam attacks. * * * * * Adam had hung back while his sister had given all the introductions, his eyes going back and forth between the Misdreavus and Staravia that had been released to counter his Drifblim and his sister's annoying Glameow. When Penny called out for a Fury Swipes, Adam smacked himself in the forehead, giving a greatly annoyed sigh. "Penny! How many times do I have to tell you, lead off with Fake Out!" he grumbled, giving the nod to his Drifblim as Siren launched her Confuse Ray. With grace and agility that one would not expect from such a bulky looking Pokemon, the balloon Pokemon drifted up and over the ray, cooing loudly. "Stockpile." The Drifblim seemed pleased with itself as it inhaled, making its body seem even larger than before. At the same time it shimmered, showing that its defenses had both been raised.
Mai's comment hadn't been forgotten by Katie, and she'd watched as the woman had pointed her strange device at Noa. 'I've never seen a pokedex like that one,' the orange haired girl thought, frowning. 'But she's not from Sinnoh so who knows what they look like in other regions...'
Adam's Drifblim wasn't the only Pokemon capable of dodging, as Noa gave a shrill cry and flapped her wings, firmly pushing herself back so that she carried herself out of range of the Glameow's claws. She too had been confused as to why Penny hadn't gone with Fake Out, but the fact meant that her Staravia wouldn't be flinching this round. "Fight back with Whirlwind!" Katie then yelled, and Noa trilled, quickly flapping her wings and sending a strong gust of wind towards the Glameow, hoping to aid in its painful descent back to the ground.
Katie stole another wary glance at Mai, deciding then that once this battle was over, they'd part ways.

"No problem!" Amy said brightly, already jittery about the feisty little Tyrogue before her. He and Marshall were simply exchanging blows now, closely dodging and counter-attacking. Marshall was showing surprisingly good form; he was quite resilient and the girl couldn't deny that she was impressed when the blue Pokemon managed to leap over a sweeping kick, land a solid kick to Tyrogue's head, and backflip to gain some distance. He was definitely learning, she'd give him that.
But Tyrogue must've been close in level, because both of them were showing signs of fatigue after their attacks and Marshall was taking some serious hits. The Scuffle Pokemon wore a proud grin and gathered himself, ready for their battle to continue. Amy readied herself as well; even though she wasn't aiming to faint the Pokemon, she still felt bad for hurting it and she found herself freezing up even now.
"M-marshall..." she called, voice much more hesitant than before. She had to think of a strategy, quickly! As nice as it would be to let her Pokemon go on autopilot, she had to step up as a trainer and help them out. "Mud Shot!"
The Wooper happily nodded and unleashed a stream of mud that bombarded the Tyrogue, who held his arms up in defense. Still, some of the mud splashed into his eyes and he tried to wipe it away but found himself temporarily blinded. He charged for a Tackle attack but missed, brushing past the Water/Ground-type.
Amy readied a Pokeball in her hand, feeling that Tyrogue was growing weak enough for her to capture. Would it not work if he really was part of the Fighting Dojo? He must've been hatched; he seemed like a baby Pokemon... Well, either way, she would have to go see if they knew one of their own was missing. But there was a pang in her heart at the thought of catching this Pokemon, only to give it right back... The bespectacled girl frowned slightly and when she ordered for Marshall to use his new move, Mud Bomb, her voice had a sharp edge to it.

The last of the Pidgey had just taken flight when whatever it was that had startled the flock came dashing out of the bushes, and in a hurry, no less. The creature in question was a tiny thing, not much bigger than Mya though blue in colour with darker spots in places. Dozens of tiny barbs protruded from its body, with a larger, almost dull-looking horn nestled on the top of its head, between two large, round ears. It wasn't alone, however, as the Spearow Hayley had heard were right on its tail.
The one closest flapped its short wings, giving itself a burst of speed as it dove in and planted a sharp Peck attack to the poor Pokemon's back, knocking her to the ground. It wasn't without consequence, however, as the attacker appeared to be somewhat sickened from its strike.
'Oh, I know this,' Hayley thought excitedly, digging around in her bag for her Pokedex. Meanwhile, the blue, spiky Pokemon had hopped back, dodging a strike from the non-poisoned of the two Spearow. "Aha! It's a Nidoran, female!" Hayley finally announced, quite pleased with herself, though her smile faded when she realized the poor Nidoran was in trouble. "Oh, uh, maybe we should help her?" she suggested. Mya nodded, and without hesitation darted out to where the Nidoran stood, trembling.
"Tah!" she cried, glaring up at the non-poisoned Spearow. The Nidoran seemed hesitant at first, but when the Spearow dove in for an attack, and Mya hopped up, swatting the bird's face with her tail to divert it, the poison type blinked, giving a small, buck-toothed grin. The two small Pokemon now stood back to back, each wearing looks of determination as they prepared to take on the Spearow Duo.

"Ikouma! Get up and use Faint Attack!" Karrigan shouted, hoping that if she raised her voice, it would help to get through to him. Ikouma did get to his feet, though he looked somewhat shaky, and his back and tail were now covered with painful-looking burns. He must have understood this command as he rushed forward, disappearing in a wisp of black haze. Before he could reappear, however, the clever Vulpix had already been working on a counter. Her chest puffed out as she breathed in deeply, quickly releasing a thin stream of flames that coiled tightly around her. Her Flash Fire ability would protect her from the damage (though since she hadn't been attacked by it, her own attacks would not be augmented) but the Sneasel would not be so lucky. Ikouma materialized right into a wall of fire and he let out another pained cry, but it didn't last as he was soon sent tumbling head over heels backwards by a headbutt from the fox Pokemon.
For a split second, Karrigan just stared at her fainted Sneasel, her hands trembling a bit as she recalled the Dark/Ice-type. It's my fault for using a type that is weak to fire in the first place, she thought, a wave of guilt coursing over her as Ikouma was returned to his Pokeball. Fine, let's see how she likes this, the redhead thought as she took a few steps back and tossed out Aegeus' Pokeball. The Onix burst from the sphere, causing the ground to tremble as he materialized in front of the Vulpix, who narrowed her eyes. Both Aegeus and Karrigan were surprised that the Vulpix didn't appear to be intimidated by the larger Rock Snake Pokemon, but the redheaded trainer gave her command regardless. "Aegeus, use Rock Throw!" she shouted, finding herself to be getting quite worked up.
Aegeus gave a roar and slashed his massive tail into the ground, sending several large rocks sailing towards the fox Pokemon. She wasn't at all concerned with the dangerous projectiles, darting to and fro with well-timed Quick Attacks to avoid them. She finally hopped atop the largest of the thrown rocks, her eyes glowing red before she unleashed another torrent of flames, though this one quickly spread until Aegeus was completely engulfed within them. Though he resisted damage from Fire-type attacks, the heat was still intense, and Karrigan knew the Onix could still be burned by the Vulpix's flame attacks. "Get out of that Fire Spin!" the girl called, her good hand balled into a fist. "Tackle attack, Aegeus, go!"
The Onix's roars echoed loudly as he pushed through the flames, aiming to smash his massive head into the tiny, reddish-coloured fox, but despite the massive difference in size, it was the Vulpix setting the pace of the entire battle. She darted to the side as the Onix burst through the flame, making an impressive jump from rock to rock until she had positioned herself on Aegeus' back. Aegeus roared again, trying to angle his head so that he could see his attacker, but when he saw her, he'd soon regret it. The Vulpix's eyes were shimmering once again, and as soon as eye-contact was made, she unleashed another Confuse Ray.
=-=-=-=-= Penny wouldn't get a chance to respond to her brother's criticism of her battling strategies as the orange-haired girl's Staravia easily avoided her Glameow's Fury Swipes, and then proceeded to send her on a return trip to the ground with a Whirlwind, only this landing wasn't very smooth at all. The feline Pokemon couldn't twist herself around in time to land on her feet and she landed awkwardly on the ground, teeth grit to keep her from crying out. Penny balled her hands into fists and shot a glare at her brother. "Don't tell me what to do!" she yelled, looking back to the tawny-coloured Staravia, and jabbing her finger at it. "Come on, Glameow! Faint Attack, now!
The feline picked herself up, growling fiercely at Noa. She gave another loud yowl before she darted forward, once again leaping up, but this time she disappeared from sight, reappearing a moment or so later behind the starling Pokemon before lashing out from behind with her sharp claws.
Meanwhile, the Drifblim's easy movements had surprised Mai, and she watched the balloon Pokemon with narrowed eyes. Tricky thing, she thought, tapping her chin with a well-manicured fingernail. Good thing we have tricks of our own. The Rocket smiled, and gestured to her Misdreavus. "Siren, Astonish."
The Screech Pokemon mirrored her relatively-new trainer's grin and she sped forward, opening her mouth and letting out a terrible cry, sending a ghostly wave of sound speeding towards the Drifblim.

His previous loss was still eating at him as Jake finally made his way into Jubilife City, aviator jacket slung over one shoulder as the walk had made him start to feel overly warm. The more he thought about it, though, the more he realized it wasn't the loss itself that was bothering him, but more that this feeling felt strangely familiar to him, and he didn't know why. After all, he couldn't remember losing a battle before; hell, he couldn't remember anything before waking up on the beach at sunrise yesterday morning. Jubilife city appeared to be the same as it had been yesterday, and Jake couldn't help but sigh sadly as he turned onto one of the main streets. There were people walking, some alone, some with others, and he couldn't help but feel an angry pang of jealousy stab his gut. It didn't seem fair somehow - these people all knew who they were, where they had come from, and even their birthdays, and he didn't even know that. He closed his eyes, trying to remember anything, but there was nothing but a big, blank, empty space.
I can't stand this, he thought, having been inadvertently glaring at a young couple that had been walking towards him, hand-in-hand. "Geez, what's your problem, buddy?" the young male grumbled as he and his girlfriend passed by, and Jake sighed again, now turning his gaze to the ground. Great, now I'm taking it out on random, innocent people. Good job Jake, though I know that's not your real name! he scolded himself, unable to suppress the sudden rage that had gripped him. He wanted to scream, and hit and smash things, but he kept himself in check, keeping his gaze fixed on the street signs so that he could find his way back to the Pokemon Center. After all, Grotle was in dire need of healing.
Grotle... Jake thought, able to recall with perfect clarity just how pained and miserable the Grove Pokemon had looked when those flames had washed over him, and he silently thanked his lucky stars that Professor Rowan had given him the Pokemon in the first place. He still needed to get back and speak with the man, and possibly return the Pokemon he'd been assuming he'd "borrowed" (even though Rowan had given him the Pokemon permanently, but of course Jake hadn't yet realized that).
The boy with the unruly blonde hair finally turned down the street that would take him to the Pokemon Center. There weren't many people around, and Jake was thankful for that as he strolled casually towards the sliding doors. Something stopped him, however, and he wasn't sure what it had been, even as he heard voices from nearby. He turned to look, now spotting a heavyset man going out of his way to block the path of a dark-haired girl. From what he could see, she was trying desperately to get around him, and possibly to the Center itself, but the man was having none of it; holding up a Pokeball and apparently trying to force the girl into a Pokemon battle. He hadn't heard the verbal exchange fully, but Jake was sure he got the gist of it - she didn't want to battle, and that man wasn't going to leave her alone until either she gave in, or someone else intervened.
"I guess that someone's gonna be me," Jake murmured, taking a deep breath as he strode towards the man, rising to his full six-foot-plus-some-several-inches before he ardently tapped the unpleasant fellow on the shoulder. "Hey," he said, his voice strangely chipper despite the situation, "I think the lady would like for you to leave her alone," he went on, now giving the man a cold stare to go along with his cheery tone. "I'm also thinking you should probably be doing just that. Leave."

Tyrogue stumbled back as the Mud Bomb collided with his face, adding a coat of muck to his face. The little guy's breathing was heavy and he leaned forward, glaring balefully at the blue Pokemon and his trainer. Amy clicked the Pokeball, ready to throw it.
"Ty!" Tyrogue grunted, suddenly rushing at Marshall with all the energy he had. This Tackle looked particularly painful, and Amy wasn't intent on letting Marshall faint again. She didn't want to risk another full-on attack, because she was pretty sure that if Tyrogue fainted, she couldn't catch him.
"Spin with a Tail Whip, now!" she cried out, pointing at the rapidly approaching Fighting-type. Marshall looked confused for a moment before he twirled around, tail reaching out. Of course, Tyrogue was hurrying too much to stop in time, and he stumbled over the outstretched tail, all of his momentum bringing him crashing face-first into the dirt. "Oh, I'm really sorry about that, but..." Amy grimaced and figured that Tyrogue would forgive her, somehow. And then she hurled the Pokeball.
It caught the Fighting-type, landing in the dirt with a soft plop!. The sphere wiggled for a few moments, the button blinking between red and silver before it finally paused. Amy waited, breath baited and heart racing from the excitement.
Then, the Pokeball burst open, discarded to the tall grass and a white blur rocketed towards the unsuspecting Marshall. Tyrogue's glowing fist cocked back before slamming right into the Pokemon, his Mach Punch hitting true. The blue Pokemon stumbled back a few steps, eyes wide and mouth agape before he fell back, knocked out.
"Oh, Marshall," Amy whispered, bringing a hand to her mouth. Her blue eyes widened with shock, free hand recalling the Water/Ground-type. Tyrogue turned towards her and huffed a little, weary eyes narrowing. The girl was about to bring out Flora when the Fighting-type fell to his knees, chest heaving and breaths erratic. He smiled, glad to have beaten that blue menace, but even he knew that he couldn't deal with whatever other Pokemon this strange girl had. He crawled over to the Pokeball used earlier and weakly smacked the button on it, allowing it to pull himself inside.
=-=-=-=-=
"Look, this is getting less amusing and pitiful by the second and more inconvenient," the dark-haired girl said plainly, trying once more to step past the man. He merely stepped in front of her, sneering. "What, you can't go find someone with healthy Pokemon? How pathetic are you? Get out of my face!"
"No deal, girlie," the man bellowed, tilting his head back and laughing raucously. "No shame in being afraid. I'll make it quick, I promise! Just have one Pokemon that I need to get stronger." Jade's eyes narrowed, lips pursing in a razor thin line.
"Nice training method, flagging down trainers who don't have a healthy Pokemon to battle with. You must have little to no battle skill with, huh? Maybe my Pokemon could beat you..." Jade shook her head; this man was goading her too much and she was already in over her head. She seriously needed some help, but everyone just kept passing them and pretended nothing was happening! How could people do something like that?
Fortunately, one tall blonde had taken notice and stepped up to bat, tone friendly but gaze much harsher. Jade smirked, quite smug that someone had finally come to her rescue. The man didn't seem so pleased, instead trying to size up to Jake and casting a glare that could pass for intimidating.
"Ain't leavin'. Not 'till one of you decide to man up and battle me!" the man yelled, releasing his Pokemon to reveal a Pokemon that looked like a floating rock with arms. Jade found it to be fairly familiar and scanned it with her Pokedex, revealing it to be a Geodude. Oh, with that typing, Solaris definitely wouldn't have stood a chance. Hopefully this guy had a Water or Grass-type.
"Thanks for the help," Jade muttered to him, slightly irritated that she was so helpless. Just because of this incident, she would go and probably find something that could handle Rock and Ground-types with ease. But for now, she had to rely on someone else to help her out, and she would just have to live with it. Hopefully, this battle wouldn't take too long. Solaris still needed to be healed.

Karrigan was more or less oblivious to Amy's battle with the Scuffle Pokemon until the sounds of the nearby fight had died down. She couldn't quite spare a moment to look over, but she hoped it had gone well for her new friend and the cute little Wooper, Marshall. At least, she hoped things were going better for Amy than they were for her. The Vulpix's Confuse Ray had hit Aegeus square between the eyes, and the confusion had quickly taken its toll. The Onix began to thrash, crashing his own rocky skull against the ground over and over again, and Karrigan had to back up to avoid being hit by his tail. For the first time since she'd known him, Karrigan found herself to be afraid of her own Pokemon, though she knew it wasn't really his fault. The small Vulpix had distanced herself, but not before unleashing more flames on the Rock Snake. Not wanting to chance having her Pokemon injure himself, or perhaps her or Amy, Karrigan recalled him, her green eyes narrowed into seldom-seen slits as she clipped the Onix's Pokeball to her belt.
The Vulpix, meanwhile, still sat perched atop a rock, smirking smugly at Karrigan. "We think we're so clever," the redhead murmured, now taking a third Pokeball from her belt. "Spark attack," she called, letting the sphere sail through the air. The command registering in her mind, the Shinx hit the ground running as soon as she appeared, her body wreathing itself in electricity. The Vulpix readied herself, deciding to feint to the left, but in a rare stroke of foresight, Zaira was able to read her opponent's movements perfectly, and the electrified tackle landed solidly against the fox Pokemon, sending them both tumbling from the rock and onto the ground below in a mess of blue, black, red, and static. Having lost sight of the duo, Karrigan quickly moved around to try and get them back in their line of sight, but by then they'd already separated and the redhead appeared just in time to see the bratty little Vulpix unleash a third Confuse Ray. If it had affected Zaira, it was hard to tell as she ran towards the Vulpix a second time, though this time for what looked like a Tackle.
The previous Spark had weakened her somewhat and the Vulpix had difficulty dodging, this time getting caught in the shoulder and being thrown to the ground somewhat harshly. Karrigan had withdrawn a Pokeball, and as soon as the Vulpix faltered, she launched the sphere at the little fox with rather good aim, wearing a smug little grin of her own as the Fire-type was pulled inside. The sphere hit the ground, rocking back and forth two, three times before it snapped open, revealing a very much less-than-pleased Vulpix, who took one look at the Pokeball she'd just escaped from and incinerated it with a jet of flames.
=-=-=-=-= At first, Jake wasn't quite sure if he liked the whole playing-hero thing, as strangely enough, this kind of situation didn't exactly feel familiar, but when the horrible man sized him up and tried to give him an intimidating look, Jake very nearly burst out into laughter. "Man-up?" he repeated, eying the Geodude that was released, a little glad that it was something he recognized. Thank you, Oreburgh Gym, he thought, unhooking Bibarel's Pokeball. "That shouldn't be too hard, considering a lunkhead like you is my opponent." He flicked his wrist, and sent the red and white sphere spiraling onto the ground, releasing the ever-eager Beaver Pokemon in a flash of light. Bibarel sized up the situation and pounded her thick tail against the pavement, mirroring her trainer's grin.
The tall blonde glanced back at the dark-haired girl and flashed her a genuine smile to show that it was no trouble before he looked back at the large man and his floating rock of a Pokemon. "So if you're done talking tough, how about we get this over with? I don't have all day."

"Drifblim, Stockpile again!" Adam called, but the Astonish from the Misdreavus had already hit. The Balloon Pokemon floated back, its face scrunched up in both pain and fright and it didn't act, having flinched from Siren's attack. "Damn," he grumbled, glaring back at Penny.
"For siblings, these two aren't much for teamwork," Katie observed, crossing her arms over her chest. She knew she couldn't get Noa to evade the Glameow's Faint attack so she called for her Pokemon to brace herself. The Staravia gave a loud trill and did just that, crying out as she felt the catty Pokemon's claws tearing into her back. "Fight back with a Wing Attack, quickly!" the orange haired girl shouted.
Noa trilled again, and turned to strike, but for a split second her eyes shone with the knowledge of something new. The Glameow had returned to the ground so she turned and dove down, white energy coursing over her as she sped towards her target. 'That looks like Aerial Ace,' Katie thought to herself, quite impressed with Noa's progress. If anything, the rivalry with Genki was definitely helping to inspire the Staravia to improve herself.
