"Aww, Cyndaquil is super-cute too," Karrigan mumbled, having since moved into the Johto section of the Pokedex. It also occurred to her that she would also need a Water-type Pokemon, though the image of the Dewgong on the front of the Cerulean Gym kept popping back into her mind. Maybe I'll search for a Dewgong someday, she thought, switching from Fire to Water-types in the Dex. Many Ice-types are also part Water-type, so that's something to keep in mind. She was happy to find that Seel didn't seem too uncommon, and a rare, almost devious smile found its way to her features as she imagined the look on Candice's face when she saw that Karrigan had raised a beautiful, strong Dewgong. No doubt she'll have her own team of powerful Ice-types, the girl reasoned, but shrugged it off. After all, her eventual match with her childhood friend and gym leader wouldn't be for a long, long time.
She chuckled a little when Amy mentioned that she'd love to have a Chimchar. Karrigan had seen one just once before, and she easily wagered that its Fire-type attacks and agility would make it a prime candidate for performing in contests. "Maybe someday," she said, nodding as the large city continued to loom over them, steadily growing larger with every step they took. It seemed larger to Karrigan, too, though again she didn't remember it all too well from the first time she'd passed through. She called for Zaira to come back a little, having noticed that there were a lot more people around, and Karrigan figured most of them were city dwellers trying to escape to the countryside for some fresh air. There were a few people who had Pokemon with them, but no one seemed to interested in their small group, which Karrigan was thankful for.

Amy nodded along with Karrigan's comment about the Cyndaquil, remembering how cute and excitable Cindy had been. She wondered where Scarlet was now, how he was doing, if he'd gotten any badges yet... it seemed like forever since they had seen each other, but in reality, it was only a few days. But a lot could happen in just a few days, Amy was now aware of that. She wished he would get something like a PokeGear, so he could call her, but she wouldn't worry about that. Knowing that boy, he probably had a full team of strong Pokemon by now, ready to take the entire Johto league.
She hadn't advanced much in their time apart. She had caught one Pokemon, moved regions, lost a contest, and got a friend. It had been slow so far, but Amy intended to kickstart her adventures from here on out. She would catch Pokemon and train and battle, because that was what trainers did. She looked up at the looming buildings of Saffron with a grim determination, ready to stop hiding.
She called back Marshall and Flora, though Marshall was reluctant to return to her side. He kept grinning and staring at the people passing by, and with a small sigh, Amy recalled him, afraid he would go off with some stranger or start a fight. She and Flora exchanged soft smiles as they walked along with Karrigan and Zaira, catching bits and pieces of random conversations as the other people passed them by. The entrance to Saffron was in sight, not too far away, and Amy smiled again. "Well, that wasn't such a long trip."

"Ha your pathetic wall of fire won't stop us from beating your pokemon! Besides only one of your pokemon can attack now without getting hurt!" The muscular person shouted doing a few ridiculous posses to show of their physic.
Groaning Robin winced from both pan and the fact that the other persons yelling and posing was a bit painful to. For a brief moment a thought flickered through her mind, that maybe people found her own posing and yelling. She quickly dismissed it though since she never broke people's noses.
On their part of the battlefield Ace and Black*Star were watching their opposition with a wear but confident look on each of their faces. They might not get along all the time but they both liked Robin and they knew they were better then those other two pokemon. The flames were a problem for both sides, only a fire pokemon would not feel anything passing through them, and any attacks Black*Star unleashed would cause them to die down or get hurt by them as well. So they had to figure out someway to get past them but keep them up. Sharing a look they both grinned at each other and charged forward.
Black*Star was out front with Ace close behind him, the blue gator pokemon jumped up into the air when both he and the Monferno had gained enough speed. Seeing his partner in the air Ace jumped up as well and grabbing the water starter he tucked both of them into a ball flames bursting up around the pair. When they hit the ground Ace had Black*Star protected by his body and a powerful looking Flame Wheel attack was headed towards the two other pokemon.
On her side of the battlefield Robin couldn't help but be impressed by her pokemon's teamwork. They were working so well together, all their training was paying off! Also it was pretty surprising as Black*Star normally couldn't stand the other starter pokemon and Ace usually ignored everyone else. Her two roughest around the edge pokemon were working together as a fantastic team. Her wide blue eyes widened and the pain in her face was momentarily forgotten as she watched Ace go unharmed through the fire wall and smash hard into the Meditite.
The moment that he hit the other pokemon Ace uncurled himself and let his flames die so Black*Star could go after the other pokemon. When he was free Black*Star ignored the slightly dizzy feeling he had and launched himself at the Machop his claws glowing as he unleashed a painful looking Scratch attack on the fighting pokemon.
~~~~~~~
With that settled the pair and one Rapidash headed out again in the direction of their next town. The further they got though the darker the sky seemed to look. Eventually it started to rain and Dante was forced to put Apollo back inside of his pokeball. Picking up both his egg and bag Dante slipped the bag over his shoulder while he kept the green and brown bundle close to his chest.
At his side the blond girl he was traveling with shook out the parasol she had been carrying and opened it. Soon both of them were traveling under the relativity small shelter of the parasol, Dante would rather be dry then away from the girl.
Despite all the rain the route seemed to be fairly crowded. Both with people and mud. If there was one thing they both agreed upon was that they did not want to trek through the thick looking mud. They were both standing on the edge of a bunch of mud looking a bit upset.
"How do you suppose we get through all this mud? I do not have a bike to travel over the thin rails above." The blond sounded a bit upset.
Shifting the weight in his arms, he thought he felt it move a little, Dante frowned slightly as well. "I have never needed a bike before. Apollo has always carried me when I did not feel like walking."
"Do you think he could carry us across swiftly enough?"
Frowning Dante considered it for a moment looking at the rain before shaking his head in a no. "I would not want to risk him in this rain for something like not getting dirty. He has a hard time as it is during a Rainy Day attack and this is so much worse then that." He paused as he considered his options, he didn't have any pokemon at the moment that could carry them across, they simply were to small. Maybe one day they would be big enough but they weren't right now. "Would you happen to have any pokemon that could fly?"
"Yes, I do have a Drifblim, he would be big enough to carry both of us and your egg over. I just never acquired the HM for fly. I do have the badge for it though." She seemed a little upset at her lack of forsight at the problem. The truth was she hadn't traveled around in quite some time.
Hearing that Dante set to digging through his bag. After a second he came to the place where he had his TM's and HM's. Flipping through them he found the appropriate one and pulled it out. "I happen to have that HM. I traveled around with a flying pokemon for a while. I do not have her with me anymore though." A brief pang of sorrow flitted through him at the memory of his former pokemon. "You can use it if you want on your Drifblim though."
There was only one downfall to their amazing teamwork was that now Black*Star was trapped in the fire wall with the two of the others. Ace was free to leave as he wanted but he didn't seem to be leaving. Instead the Monferno dodge a punch from the Meditite with a flash of flame before countering with his own. On the other side Black*Star was matching the Machop blow for blow. The two of them were pounding hard onto each other in a flurry of fists, tails, claws, skin, and scales. It was turning out to be an all out brawl between them as the two of them were soon backed up against each other. Ace's more free style almost break-dancing style did not do well in confined spaces. Black*Star, normally smashed through any and every obstacle given to him was having troubles of his own. He simply wasn't strong enough to match the other pokemon blow for blow even with his own boosted attack and speed.
Robin watched concerned for both her pokemon as they were assaulted by a flurry of attacks. They might be better at teamwork right now but it seemed like the shemales pokemon were as strong as they claimed. "Abce! Blab*Schar! You neeb to geb out ob dear!" Robin shouted at them. On the other side of the arena the heavily muscled shemale laughed as her pokemon fought off their attacks.They needed to regroup and attack as a team. Ace could keep up a bit with the attacks but Black*Star just didn't have the power, maybe sometime after he chose to evolve but he just couldn't right now.
Hearing their trainers shouted command Ace did his best to dodge a blow by the Meditite, its psychic powered punch still managed to hit his side. Leaping forward he grabbed Black*Star and shielding him again with his body he dove out of the fire ring.
When they were both free, a bit more bruised up but still ready to go. They couldn't attack individually they both had to work together to make this battle a victory. It would also be best if they attacked from a distance as well, they defiantly did not want to get hit by any more of those attacks again. Still they weren't some of the most inventive fighters on Robin's team for nothing!
It was Black*Star who came up with the idea first. Pointing a claw up into the air was pretty much all it took for the plan to come to Ace's mind as well. Taking off once again Black*Star jumped up again once more and Ace met him once more. Grabbing each other's feet and hands they landed rolling on the ground once more. This time though fire didn't flare up and Black*Star wasn't tucked in. Instead they used their momentum for Ace to launch Black*Star up into the air. Once in the air the Totodile had a perfect shot into the ring of fire that held their opponents. Without waiting he fired off a powerful looking Water Gun. It was likely that the fire would go out with this attack but it would keep them away now. He wasn't the only one attacking though. While the other two were distracted by the blast of water, Ace waited for just as the water hit and the steam to fill the air before going and smashing right into them with a Mach Punch.
By the time the steam cleared the Meditite was down and the Machop looked like it was barely standing. Both Ace and Black*Star were now on opposite sides of the battlefield and the Machop was in between the two. Working in perfect synch the two of them blasted the remaining pokemon from each side with an Ember and a Water Gun. With the combined might of the two of them working together the other pokemon didn't stand a chance.
"Damn. You certainly are stronger then you look!" The large muscled he/she laughed as they recalled their pokemon. "Well it looks like we have some more training to do." With that they waved goodbye and left Robin standing their in a lot of pain, a swollen nose, and blood running down her face.
Blinking a few times Robin couldn't help but be a little extra slow. The battle was over? Oh... that was good, she really needed to visit the doctors. Looking down at Ace and Black*Star who had come to stand by her side she realized that she needed to get them healed up to. She hoped it wasn't to far to the next town.
~~~~~~~~~~~
The girls face seemed to light up as she was offered the HM to use. "Oh my! Oh you would really let me use it?" Dante shrugged. "Oh well then I insist that you let me and my Drifblim carry you across." She smiled prettily at him before she reached into her bag. Pulling out a pokeball that was covered in several stickers she released the pokemon inside, for some reason several clouds came out at the same time. The rain pushed those away pretty fast though and soon a magnificent looking Drifblim was floating in front of them. Taking the HM Dante offered her she pressed it on the front of the pokemon, it glowed for a long moment before it faded back to its normal color. "Thank you so much for letting me use that."
Dante just 'hm'ed as he put the disk away. He waited as the girl put her parasol away and soon both of them w scooped up into the ghost flying types long arms. Dante watched as the ground got further away as they slowly floated forward and up. While they did not seem to be going to fast the large pokemon seemed to block a lot of the wind and all of the rain. He clutched the egg a little closer to his chest, he did not want to drop it here.
"So you are one of the trainers that came by the boat yes?" The girl asked, she probably just wanted to start a conversation, truth was they were cramped somewhat close together.
"Yes, I did. I have visited all the other regions and most of the towns in them when I was younger."
"Oh my you must have traveled a lot." She seemed a bit surprised but actually interested.
"Hm. My mom was a trainer still when she had me. She just took me along."
"Oh so you have been around pokemon your whole life! I got my Misdreavus when I was 13. I had never seen a real pokemon that wasn't on tv until then." She paused a smile on her face as she remembered fond memories before continuing. "We were quite the pair back then."
They didn't say anything else for the rest of the trip through the rainy weather. Instead they just floated along in comfortable silence.

She wasn't sure how long she stayed by Cynder's bedside, but at one point, the Pokeball Hayley had been holding shook open, and Mya the Rattata popped out, nestling herself on the bed near the resting Charmander. Hayley herself had almost dozed off when the nurse came back in. It was time to check the ICU Pokemon's vitals, so Hayley reluctantly took her leave, and though she knew she really didn't have to say it, she did anyway: "Take good care of him, please," she said, prompting a gentle smile and nod from the nurse. Hayley scooped up Mya, pocketing the mouse's Pokeball as she did so. So long as Cynder was here, in the Viridian City Pokemon Center, she wouldn't be able to stray far.
"Are you hungry?" she asked the little purple mouse which had taken up residence on her shoulder. Mya nodded eagerly, her whiskers twitching excitedly. The thought of not needing to scavenge for food was quite enticing and she squeaked happily as the two of them wandered towards the cafeteria. It was past the lunch rush now so there wasn't a lot to choose from. Hayley was able to snag a couple of peanut butter sandwiches and a slightly bruised apple along with a bottle of water, and she looked around, soon deciding she didn't want to stay inside.
Mya remained perched carefully atop Hayley's shoulder for the entire duration of the trip through the cafeteria and back outside again, though she avoided the nearby picnic tables and instead went wandering. It wasn't like her to avoid people, but she did, mostly fearing she'd be challenged to another battle. After that last match with Jan, Hayley realized then that she didn't care if she never battled again. 'Cynder would hate that though,' she thought with a pained smile, unable to clear the vision of her Charmander lying injured and unconscious in that ICU bed. It wasn't the first time they'd lost, though admittedly it was her first loss (and battle, really) against another trainer. She'd lost to other wild Pokemon before, though luckily they were nothing more than the area's common Pidgey and Rattata and they'd been able to escape with their rears (and most of) their pride intact. Incidentally her first win had been when she captured little Mya, but she wasn't sure that would count. She was certain Cynder would not count it as a victory.
She and the mouse Pokemon settled down on a patch of soft grass beneath the shade of a large maple tree, and Hayley spread out her green sweater for them to sit on. She unwrapped the first sandwich and gave half of it to Mya, watching with amusement as the mouse eagerly nibbled away at the corners. 'What am I doing wrong? she continued to think, sipping the water as she found that she wasn't very hungry. 'Am I really that bad of a trainer, or am I just the unluckiest girl in the world?'

"No, it was a lot quicker than I thought it'd be," Karrigan mused as they reached the entrance to the city and passed through. It was somewhat surprising to see just how many people were around them, and Karrigan found herself feeling a little overwhelmed as she was bumped and brushed by strangers. Zaira had since retreated to her side, walking safely between her trainer and Amy, her ears drooping a little as the sights and sounds of the biggest city in Kanto were quite overwhelming for the poor little Shinx as well. At one point someone practically barged between the two girls, resulting in Zaira nearly getting stepped on. While most people probably would have shouted at the ruffian for being so rude, Karrigan winced and stooped to the ground, scooping up the blue and black kitten before anything, or any one, happened to her.
"This place... is like a madhouse," Karrigan murmured to Amy, her steps far more careful than before. A select few individuals did offer apologies for bumping into the two girls, but most just grumbled about 'stupid kids' and how they should pay attention to where they were going. "So uh, any idea which way we need to go now?" the redhead asked her new friend, clutching Zaira to her chest possibly a little tighter than was necessary.

Carlos was sure that the Pikachu would rise after that strike, but she was still sleeping helplessly clearly in pain. Carlos flinched a bit when Maria's peck struck, feeling a bit bad for the pokemon. But at least Maria was safe from it's electricity right now. "Woo we're pretty lucky that your song put that Pikachu into a good sleep. Sorry Mr. Surge, I don't want to hurt your cute pokemon to bad. Maria, Ataque de Fúria!" As Carlos strummed out his orders Maria floated in place, wincing as she struggled to fight the paralysis, feeling it lingering though her nervous system. She shook her head and gain control of her body, wasting no more time and dove at the sleeping electric mouse, Carlos's tempo picking up as she cocked her head back and jabbed her beak forward several times rapidly. Even though this was an exhibition match for fun, it still felt nice to have the upper hand.

Jason was busy riding around on Atlas, laughing as the Onix semi tried to buck him off and he held on. When Cynthia suddenly spoke he shifted focus to her and ended up tumbling forward off of the Onix, falling a few feet to the ground and landing on his butt. "Ouch...Hmmm I haven't really given it that much thought. I mean I don't know what kind of pokemon live in Sinnoh, so I wanna see them all. Heh, as an aspiring researcher I know I shouldn't have favorites, but I'm rather fond of steel type pokemon myself. They're just so cool." He said smiling as he looked up at Zeus who had turned his attention back to Jason, hovering over him and gazing at Atlas with his eye, Atlas looking guilty. "Heh heh, don't worry it's not your fault." The boy in the hat said laughing as he stood up looking back at the champion. "From here I guess I'll just wander. Maybe check out that mountain. It's not an adventure if you have a solid plan to follow. Heeheehee." Chuckling Jason looked in the direction of the big mountain that seemed like the main piece of the whole region, eager to know what secrets it held.

So they kept moving, honestly without much incident. For one, Jasper’s Glare was apparently on par with that of an Arbok. It easily kept an overanxious Youngster from coming over and challenging a member of the trio to a probably ill-advised battle. And somehow, by some powerful sense of self control, Scarlet had been managing to keep his focus straight ahead. Every time he caught himself turning to face one of the Bug Catchers populating Route 30, he remembered the look on Jett’s face the last time he opened his mouth and they ended up battling people twice their strengths. Everytime Cindy felt the urge to run over barking toward a youngster and his rattata, she forced herself to remember the tidal wave given to her and everyone else as a present from that freaky frog fish.
Though they visibly struggled to withhold the fire of battle welling up inside him, the pair managed. After all, they’d get all the battles they needed at the gyms. For now though, they had one more route to peel through before they made any choices about battling Falkner, or heading to one of the many surrounding cities, and it was a little quiet.
“So, if you guys had to pick one type of pokemon to use, what would it be?”
(Really sorry about the wait. I should be posting a lot faster from now on.)
-------
Tara didn’t have to issue the order at all. The perturbed Bulbasaur was starting to feel the sting of the sandstorm, and as nice as she was, she knew Roll wasn’t coming in for a hug. The bright green vines snaked through the storm, lashing violently toward the charging Larvitar.
And put simply, it was the worst pain Roll had ever felt. The larvitar let out a loud cry, the building damage overwhelming her normally high defenses. And for the first time, she saw the world suddenly turn black.
When Roll crashed to the ground, there was an almost inaudible thud, drowned out by the sandstorm and the excited cheer of her opponents. But it was probably the loudest sound Alex had ever heard. It was the sound of Roll’s trust in her dying, the sound of her failing the pokemon who looked up to her as a mother. Alex’s hands rose up to the pokeball chained around her neck. With a button press, the crimson light beamed out, enveloping the Larvitar and bringing her back into the relative safety of her pokeball. “… I’m sorry…”
Quietly, she reached into her bag, drawing out her Pokedex. Her party was displayed on the screen. As quickly as possible, she selected Blues, mainly out of the hope deep inside that he could do something, anything. But the only available move just happened to be Teleport. “I… I surrender.”
Without a word, Blues reappeared seated at her side back, dozing off as if he hadn’t been in a raging vortex of sand and grit literally half a second ago. Alex watched as the storm died down, and Tara dashed in to hug her Bulbasaur at a job well done. Danny ran over too, somehow even more excited his teammate. They were so cheerful. And why wouldn’t they be?
She watched quietly for a moment until she felt her heart drop to the bottom of her stomach. Then she walked off, quietly heading north on Route 1.

The sun gleamed through the leaves of the tall oak tree on the side of the museum. Pewter City seemed brighter today. It must have been the sun. At the base of the tree a tiny little Piplup seemed to be poking at something in the ground. Although the tiny pokemon was covered by the shadow, it got startled and turned at the darkening of the shadow. “What are you up to, Snow?” a young man asked as he knelt down to pet the little penguin. “Pipluuu!” the pokemon playfully yelled as a sudden frost lightly sprayed on the man’s face. “Oh, you wanna play, do you?” he said as he began to tickle the belly of the pokemon. The Piplup laughed as he tried to wiggle out of the man’s grasp. Once he stopped tickling the pokemon he checked in the dirt at the base of the tree. The brown dirt gave way to a small blue berry. “Snow, what have I told you about going through my bag? You never know when we would have needed this berry.” The man said as he placed the berry in a bag that he hid in his pocket. Even though he did not carry a bag, his pants had many pockets, some small and then some large, all for different items. “Come on, Snow, let’s go to the Pokemon Center. We are going on a little trip to Mt. Moon to see what we can see. You need your strength.” The Piplup whined slightly. Although he would always let Snow train against his own trainer, Snow herself had not been in an actual pokemon battle yet and was slightly nervous if she would need to battle. The door to the pokemon center opened as the two entered.
“Oh, hello there, Leight! And to you too, Snow!” Nurse Joy said as she came out from behind the front counter, petting the little penguin on the top of its head, the Piplup smiled. “Hello, Nurse Joy. Could you please check Snow? We are going to go to Mt. Moon today and I want her to be in top shape just in case.” Leight said as he ran a hand through his hair.
“Why, of course! Would you mind placing Snow in her ball?” Nurse Joy asked as she returned behind the counter. Leight took out a white-ish pink ball. The Piplup looked a little sad.
“No worries, Snow. It will be just like last time. In and out, ok?” he said to the little pokemon. The Piplup perked up as a red hue swept over the pokemon as it returned into the Premier Ball.
After he handed the ball to the nurse, she turned and placed the ball in the machine beside her. “You know, Leight, the anniversary is coming around the corner.”
“Yes, I know.” He said with a saddened tone.
“Oh, I didn’t mean to…”
“It’s ok, Nurse Joy. It’s something I will always have to deal with. But, I have Snow to keep me company now. I don’t know what I would do without her.” He said as the machine beside the nurse beeped. “Here you go!” Nurse Joy said as she handed back the ball to Leight.
Leight pressed the button on the ball which then popped open and the penguin pokemon emerged in a hue of red. “We are good to go?” Leight said looking at his partner who was yelping excitedly. “Then off we go. Thanks again, Nurse Joy!” he said as he headed for the door.
“Take care, Leight! Come back if you run into any trouble!”
((The Berry found was already in my inventory, just letting you know))

The last time Amy had been in Saffron (very briefly), it wasn't as... crowded, not that she remembered. The brunette looked up at the towering buildings, a chatter of hundreds of voices all rising up into some indistinguishable buzz, a sea of faces constantly shifting before the two girls. Amy's hand was at her side, constantly brushing against the leaf of Flora's head, just to make sure the Bayleef was still by her side. She muttered apologies to everyone she bumped into, keeping track of Zaira and Karrigan as well as she tried not to get swallowed by the crowd.
"Bay!" Flora cried out, being shoved against Amy as the man rudely barged through. Amy consoled her with a small pat on the head, figuring that recalling the Grass-type would be best. She recalled Flora and returned to Karrigan's side, eyes widening when asked where they were to go now.
"U-um, hold on..." Amy muttered, taking out her PokeGear and checking the map feature on it. "Route 8... should be... that way!" She pointed over to a building in the distance and began to lead the way, finding a narrow route that people seemed to avoid. The two passed the open doors of the Fighting Dojo, the sounds of battle cries and battling carrying through. Amy didn't care to look, merely continuing past the dojo and the adjacent building, which seemed to be very unoccupied at the moment. Amy turned to look at Karrigan, still continuing on towards the exit for Route 8. "Is Zaira okay? Someone didn't step on her, did they?"
=-=-=-=-=
Jett found a quiet smile tugging at his lips, grey eyes watching Jasper ward off any potential battles. A quick glance at Scarlet showed that the redheaded boy was also resisting the urge to battle, which he appreciated. Ever since that double battle in Violet, challenging random strangers wasn't the best of ideas, though he couldn't expect Scarlet to resist forever. He just wanted to get en route to Azalea soon.
The boy's expression settled into that of cold indifference, one he was quite familiar with. His older brother was very fond of it, and it always intimidated Jett when he was younger. So he didn't even meet the eyes of the eager young trainers as they passed them, head raised high as though he were superior. Despite how untrue it was, it was nice to have them think that. At least they would leave the trio alone for the time being.
"I really like Psychic-types," Jett said after a moment, once they had passed the few trainers on the road. "But that's only 'cause I've known River the longest. I don't think I could ever really... stick to one type like the gym leaders do. I wanna know what they're all like. What about you two?" His tone, quiet, unassuming, seemed to grow into itself as he spoke, like he wasn't trying to deflect the situation or avoid being noticed. It was just him, talking. Talking more than he had in a while, actually. It was nicer than he imagined.

Jasper had to admit that he was rather impressed with how well Scarlet was holding himself back, though he could see that the redhead was practically itching to battle, as was the firebrand at his side. Again, the bandanna-clad youth was hit with the realization that he'd have to suck it up and start battling at some point as well, but he couldn't be bothered right now. After all, he'd witnessed the severe mismatch Scarlet and Jett had been in against those two girls, and though it hadn't been him getting creamed out there, it also made him worry about picking the wrong fight. 'Only problem is, you can't tell how strong a trainer is just by looking at a person,' he thought. 'Miharu and Sam sure didn't appear to be much of a threat at all, but looks can be deceiving.'
His gaze flickered over to Scarlet as he asked them which type of Pokemon they'd use if they had just one. Jasper pondered his answer, though he realized he didn't know too much about that many different types. Jett's answer was a good one, however, and he nodded in agreement. "One type would be far too restricting," he mused aloud, "but if it came right down to it..." he trailed off, tapping his finger against his chin thoughtfully. "Fire-types, probably, though I also rather like the Poison-type. What about you, Scarlet?" * * * * * * * * * * Hayley's thoughts didn't stray far from dreary and gloomy as she sat on the grass, taking very small bites of her sandwich. Mya had long since finished her half and was busily cleaning the sticky peanut butter from her paws and whiskers. Hayley had poured out a bit of water for her as well, and she sighed as she took another bite of her sandwich, her gaze turning skyward as a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto zipped by overhead. The group circled before touching down some twenty feet away, with the largest of the Pidgeotto shooting a warning glare at Hayley.
"Look at them all," the brunette marveled, scooting over a bit closer, her sketchpad withdrawn. She flopped down onto her stomach, sketchpad out in front of her, and she began to draw the scene before her. The Pidgeotto hopped a bit closer to investigate, but backed off once again when it realized the girl wasn't going to cause them any trouble. "I've never seen a Pidgeotto this close before," Hayley said quietly, reaching back to grab her sandwich. Now that something had distracted her from her trainer problems, her stomach began to protest and she ate it quickly before washing it down with more water.
Feeling much better, the girl's pencil practically danced across the paper as she tried to get in as much detail from the Pidgeotto as she could before it took off again, though she had managed to lure it even closer with a handful of crumbs from the remaining half of a sandwich she had left. She carefully darkened a few of the lines, highlighting the bird Pokemon's proud crest feathers, only then just noticing that Mya had climbed up onto her back, curled into a ball, and was fast asleep.

It didn’t take the redhead long to answer with the choice that probably surprised no one. “I’ve gotta agree with you, Jasper. Definitely fire. They seem like they hit pretty hard, and I’m not entirely sure it’s possible to have flames coming out of your body and not be awesome.” Scarlet glanced over at Jett, just after chuckling at the Quilava grinning beside him. “Course, Psychic types are pretty boss too, what with the telepathy and telekinesis. I don’t doubt River’ll be terrifying when he’s finished evolving.”
After a moment’s thought, however, he found himself agreeing with another similar statement his travelling buddies made. “But yeah, you guys are right. Actually doing that one type deal would be a little boring, if not totally crippling. I’m starting to wonder how gym leaders pull it off…”
Travelling in the group, Scarlet noted, seemed to make everything go by faster. Maybe it was the company that made time fly by, or maybe it was easier to focus on and get moving to a goal. He wasn’t entirely sure, but he did know Sprout Tower was getting closer. With the other trainers on the route staying out of their way, and the wild pokemon mostly avoiding the three man group, it wouldn’t be too much longer before they reached Violet Town.

At first Karrigan hadn't realized that Amy had recalled Flora into her Pokeball, and for a moment she looked around frantically before she realized nothing was wrong. She peeked over Amy's shoulder at the PokeGear, having no idea how to read the tiny little digital map, and instead nodded quickly and followed after the brunette as they found a seemingly rare path that seemed to be less followed. The crowd also seemed to think out a little, giving the two girls some breathing room as they passed by a building. Karrigan stopped and looked inside, blinking in surprise when she saw all the people dressed in strange uniforms, though they seemed to be fighting with each other. "Fighting Dojo," she read as she passed by the sign posted out front. There was a building next door to it, but it seemed to be empty. She thought she saw the words "Saffron City Gym" etched into a stone block nearby, but she'd rushed past it too quickly in order to catch up to Amy.
"No, no, she's fine," the redhead answered. "I picked her up so she wouldn't get stepped on."
"Shinx, shinx!" answered the Electric-type, seemingly having had her fill of the big city as well.
"Let's get out of here, before something does happen," Karrigan said, picking up her pace a little. She wasn't even sure what kinds of things awaited them on Route 8, but she hoped it would be quieter than the city.
=-=-=-=-= Surge growled quite loudly when Carlos addressed him as 'mister', and he made a fist and shook it. "That's Lieutenant," he barked. "None o' that, 'mister', crap! An' don't be apologizin', this is a battle!" He was also aware of the fact that this was just an exhibition match, but it was always best to stay on his toes.
The gym leader watched with narrowed eyes as the little blue and white cotton ball once again dove at the sleeping Pikachu, having staved off paralysis for a second time in a now. "C'mon, Baby! Wake up and give 'er a Shock Wave!" The Pikachu's ears twitched, but she remained still as the tiny blue hellion dove in and jabbed her beak once, and then twice into the mouse's side. As the third strike was about to land, her eyes snapped open and she vaulted back, somersaulting once in the air. The entire time her cheeks had been sparking madly as she gathered the electricity, and as she landed, she raised her little paws high in the air and released the electric bolt. Being young and relatively inexperienced, the lightning would have missed had it not been the gym's signature no-miss move. It arched in midair, now speeding towards the Swablu.
=-=-=-=-= Cynthia had been watching the boy ride his Onix with some amusement, remembering a time when she'd pondered capturing a Rock Snake of her own. It wasn't to say she didn't adore the Pokemon she already had, but a part of her was aching for a new challenge - new Pokemon to meet, capture and train. She smiled to herself, already listing the possibilities in her mind.
"You like Steel-types?" she repeated, still grinning as she held up a second Pokeball, clicking the release button once to enlarge it. Garchomp tilted her head to the side curiously, having not really been paying attention to he humans. "I'm sure you'll love this fellow." She pressed the button a second time and it clicked open, spilling light onto the ground beside her that quickly took shape into a bipedal creature with blue and black markings. "This is Lucario," she said.
Lucario eyed Jason warily, as well as the Onix and Magnemite. He closed his eyes and held out a paw, the strange tendrils on the side of his head rising up and hovering as he read their auras. Satisfied with what he saw, the Aura Pokemon opened his eyes and gave a bow to the young boy and his Pokemon. "Luuu," he said, voice low and somewhat gravelly.

Jett grinned, tempted to check his Pokedex again just to see the picture of that Gallade Pokemon, which now River could become. Sure, he needed some strange stone, but that wouldn't be too hard to find, right?
"Getting there sooner than I expected," the boy remarked after a pause, glad that their trip seemed quick. Three was definitely not a crowd in this case; instead, it was very much welcomed. The raven-haired boy grinned a little at nothing, feeling fully ready to go forward. He had a strong team, a badge, and a Pokedex of his very own. No more backtracking; from here on out, he could really be a trainer.
He supposed this was the part where he was supposed to help make more conversation, but when thinking of subjects to talk about, the boy couldn't think of much. He simply kept walking, glancing at the Pokemon rustling through the bushes on the side of the road as he struggled not to say anything stupid.
=-=-=-=-=
"Oh, good," Amy sighed, smiling a little at the Electric-type. "I'm glad she's all right." She nodded along with Karrigan's suggestion, beginning to pick up the pace of her walking as they neared the building connecting Saffron and Route 8.
It was strange, but the closer Amy got to the route, the more anxious she became. A new member to her team would be something getting used to; she was so accustomed to it being just her, Flora, and Marshall. But maybe it was for the best. And no trainer could just walk around with two Pokemon their entire lives.
"Are you ready?" Amy asked softly, not recognizing that Karrigan probably couldn't hear her over the dull roar of the city. She entered the building, immediately relieved by its silence before continuing on out to Route 8. While the two could still hear Saffron and all of its clamour, it was much quieter since they weren't in the midst of it. Amy gazed at the dirt roads, gaze focused on a large field of tall grass not too far away.
"Here we are," she said, smile unconsciously blossoming on her lips. She turned to Karrigan. "Um, there should be some Vulpix on this route, if you wanted to catch a Fire-type now..."

Jason was more than curious to see what Cynthia meant, he watched her closely as she took out a second pokeball eager to find out what was inside. Did this mean she had a steel type as well?Well of course it did, why else would she have said that? Practically bouncing in his shoes he waited and watched as out of the sphere popped out a bipedal pokemon with a resemblance to a canine of sorts, odd markings and weird things on it's head. It had a spike looking bone on it's chest and one on the back of each forepaw, and it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. "Lucario?" Jason was already on the verge of a breakdown from the coolness of this pokemon, but when it held out a paw and it's tendril thingies started to rise, he lost it and fell back wards catching himself on his hands at he saw looking in awe. "Wooooooow, you're a steel type? But...but you're covered in fur not shiny steel armor...oh man do you have like iron tough fur!? Or or or like iron skin under your fur? Steel bones? Are you so awesome you don't need iron armor and are just that cool? What's with those floating thingies you got on your head? C-can I touch them? No I don't wanna. Do I? No. Yes. Yes. No." As he rambled Jason quickly got up, not bothering to dust himself off as he got out his sketch pad, scratching away at a blank page, his eyes darting from the page to the Lucario over and over again. "Umm...Cynthia...I was wondering if maybe...we could battle? I know your the champion and everything, but Lucario and Garchomp are so cool...and part of research means getting to see and study all the aspects of a pokemon. And the best way to see a pokemon I think is in a battle, to see them in action. You know?" He said as he continued to draw Lucario, his voice as calm as ever as if unaware of just what he was asking.
