Not entirely, but I'm not sure if the series I'm thinking of, its seemingly normal and has a "WTF" ending to it, is the same thing you're referring to. .... I think it might be different, though. Unless Yume Nikki had an anime.

Yume Nikki is a freeware game made by someone in Japan using RPG Maker. 3nodding

Partial credit, I had part of the name. ... Well if everyone dies in the end or SOMETHING the yeah, Mirai Nikki is it. Though psycho yandere sounds like it. So its.... kinda like a spinoff? :Va

Yume Nikki is something independent altogether. It's focused on only one main character. The ending...and the only ending there is...is that she commits suicide. >.>

See, the premise is that you play a girl who refuses to leave her room (she's said to be a hikkikomori). The only thing to do is have her go to sleep and explore her dreams. But then you find her dreams are filled with disturbing imagery. It could be said that, with a fear of the outside world and dreams like that, it's no wonder she offed herself.
...Which is still depressing, even though it makes sense.

But hey, it reminds me slightly of good old Symphonia's a bit.< If I had to pick story-wise, Symphonia kinda reminds me of FFX, yet there are some elements in it that kinda reminds me of FFVII.
