I don't really care. A bad movie's a bad movie. I just don't like seeing the source material denigrated.
I'd heard about Page, but this is the first I'm hearing of Clooney. I would be very excited if either were true. Page is probably my favorite young actress working today, and Clooney usually delivers. I don't think Page would shy away from it because of risque material, though. After all, this is the girl who filmed a scene where she castrated Patrick Wilson at age 18. (By the by, if that sentence doesn't stand as a sterling review for Hard Candy, I don't know what will.)

Saw the new Predator film on Friday. It was as good as the first one. And since I saw it at the Alamo Draft House, they put together this great preshow of Predator related vids. Such as Batman Vs. Predator You must watch this one, this was awesome. They guy spent 30,000 to make it, and the wrath of Hollywood's finest lawyers. Predator and Alien loose in LondonAvP Ping PongPlus a 'Sweden' Remake (like from "Be Kind Rewind") but I can't find the vid. And Game Play footage from the Predator NES game. Oh it was awesome.

I had sort of the same reaction. I really think I would have been more "in" to it if I'd read it when I was 20 instead of 30.

I can see that. Would have been great in high school. Or middle school. The prudency of the book bugged me and while I appreciate nods to 8-bit culture as much as anyone, I can't help but think nearly everyone reading it will get none of the references.
That said, I'm kind of excited about the movie. I think it will work much better that way.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the movie.
What the book fails to hook me on (and I can see why other people espouse it as such a great read) is that, basically....all of the characters are assholes. Scott is the main character but he's a jerk, and worse he's a really DUMB jerk. He's not even remotely self-aware of what a huge jerk he is. Ramona's a jerk, Scott's a jerk, most of the cast are just jerks. Scott's gay roommate is affable, and Knives is pitiable, but otherwise they just strike me so much as the sort of early 20's-self-centered-entitled jerks that I avoid.
I like the idea of a world where video game rules are actually THE rules, I really like the art style, and the overall concept is a fun one. But the story just doesn't do a lot for me personally. I've read every volume and finished going "huh. Well, okay then."
Maybe Scott's the poster child for the generation below me where if you're just YOU long enough, you special little snowflake, everything you want will come your way with no other effort.
