Rahsaveer glanced up from his work and nodded once to Sylin. Very well, but I'm not going with her this time. She's going alone." He picked up the scepter, waved it and murmured the incantation as Jae disappeared from the spot she was in and reappeared in front of Kaznec and Lycear. The landing likely wasn't anymore spectacular but there was nothing he could do about that. Call me when you need me...

Rip and tear her confidence to pieces... For some reason, that sounded just as bad as if his father had been talking about the city being destroyed. Thus he was glad when his father took his suggestion and within seconds, there she was. Apparently, teleportation really did look as bad as it felt. Taking her hand with and lacing his other her waist, he helped her to her feet and kept her steady the aftereffects of the spontaneous travel. One day, he would figure it out... But for the moment, golden eyes focused once more onto the older dragon.

"And where you went wrong was to make assumptions that all are the same. Yes admittedly there are some like that but we aren't all power mongering psychos looking to become liches and the like." Shaking her head lightly, "As I said...we have greater things to think on anyway."
One moment she was in conversation with a child who's thoughts were less than pure and the next she was on the ground, looking at two pairs of boots and was highly disoriented...what just happened? Took her a moment to focus before she was being pulled up and realized who it was. Jae seemed to perk up in her mood some, and hugged him. "You're okay." Which to whatever was the driving force behind her mannerisms lately, was soothing to know. But then abother blink as she realized exactly where they were and the Lycear was there. "What's going on..."
Another look to Sylin as it appaered again just after Jae's disorienting journey through...whatever it was the Laerethe used. But his eyes settled back on the two, watching them a moment before her foudn a place to sit and gestured for them to do so as well. "We're going to have a discussion about who you are and what things have happened here." Pausing for a moment. "I'll start frank....Jaebelltiah, you are indeed a Rider dragon." Holding up his hand a moment to stop any words from the two he cotinued. "Do you both remember Karinn? She was your rider Jaebelltiah." Thusly pausing to wait for initial reactions.
“Karinn…but she…” Karinn was the first one to take care of her. It was a very vivid memory in her mind. She remembered that bright line of light in her shell suddenly get bigger and brighter and then things had reached through it and grabbed her and pulled her out of her egg, holding her up in the air. The air had been considerably colder, but she hadn’t been cold long. Voices had kept saying it was too early, and another said if it wasn’t done, she would have died. Still others were whispering about color. But…Karinn had never treated her anything like a pet. Which would be easy to do seeing as hatchlings stayed in their natural forms constantly.
It had been a pleasant year with her too. They were always playing and she was always being taught things, or at the very least shown new things. Always fed on time, and always curled up in bed with the woman at night, or by her side when she had taken naps through the day. Affectionate pets and nuzzles whenever the time allowed, always well taken care of and kept clean. But…it was like one day Karinn had just gone away. Remembered that too…Karinn had dropped her off with Tihirii, another dragon folk whom often played a babysitter for others and ran the orphanage that Karinn also lived in and helped out at. She had never come back.
That emotion of dread and other such negative things welled up and threatened to throw her into a world of upset again. Which was showing clearly on her face. “But she never…treated me like an animal. Never. How could she be a Rider? Why was she in Ilindal?”
"No she didn't, but she was and there are reasons for all of that as well." Turning a look to his son. "This is why even you need to know this...because at one time we gave a single Rider who was seeking to change how things were a chance...and it didn't end well." Kaznec probably didn't remember Karinn too much more than as a passing figure though. He and Jaebelltiah hadn't really been too exposed to each other until after Karinn had left.

For some reason, her scent hit him more forcefully than her presence. Probably a side effect of the hug but he returned it, somewhat awkwardly, and gave her a nod accompanied by the barest of smiles. "I'm ok." Helping her over to a chair as directed, he settled down himself as well and exhaled, a sign of mental preparation perhaps for the information that was about to be shared. Which apparently didn't work too well because at the mention of Karinn, all he did was blink and look thoroughly confused. Jae had a Rider? Well clearly it was the truth because Jae remembered her too, albeit in much different and more pleasant terms than was usually associated with the Riders. Which meant something had changed, or at least tried to be changed... and Kirinn had been involved if not at the center of things. Meeting his father's gaze, he licked his lips. "You mean to say that the Rider methods were not as harsh and cruel back then... Or was this an exclusive circumstance only?"

He was quite startled, both by her uncertain refusal and then the way she completely disappeared. He studied the space where she should be sitting for a long moment and then crossed his arms with a sniff. That was very rude.
They were still going on about this, weren't they? Hadn't he made it clear that she didn't know what she was talking about and that should mean that she shouldn't say things? Obviously not. They did things rather differently here, didn't they? Apparently so. Her final sentence and the promise of a subject caught his attention. That made him a little more intrigued and he quirked an eyebrow. "Gold tadpole?"

"No, Riders were always harsh in their ways...by thought I suppose they had to be to break a dragon's will and need for knowlegde and magics and such. But Riders, like all creatures...are not born knowing what they are to do, or how they are to act. They are not pre-destined to think or act a certain way. There's always a black sheep so to speak." Crossing his arms over his chest and watching the two...Jaebelltiah was clearly upset but he knew that knowing this could perhaps make it better for her. If she didn't know this truth then she'd never get over it. And if Kaznec didn't know, he may repeat the mistake that he himself had made.
"I'm telling you know what she had told me. Karinn, while yes a young Rider had seen dragons as we should be and she had seen what her companions made of us. She was at the age where Riders are given their first eggs, and she had made a decision even before she was given her egg, which was you Jaebelltiah. She wanted for you to be, what you should be, and she didn't want to be the one to make you into something you shouldn't...but if she didn't do it then someone else would. Karinn never told us the details about how she got to Illindal, let alone with a dragon egg, but she did. There was no way to reverse what modification methods had already been done before you were given to her but she knew despite that, that you could be what you were meant to be if you were raised right."
Turning another look to his son. "The decision was made to allow a Rider and the egg she has been given to dwell in the city, and shelter her from the deserts...and the Rider's radar. For all us Dragon Folk...it was almost like a sense of hope for us...we had always been raised to know that we are protectors of those around us. We are not masters, nor are we slaves. We are not kings, nor are we peasants. We are raised to know that the scales should be balanced. This was a glimpse of lost balance perhaps being restored. If there was one willing...then why couldn't there be others?"
She didn't like what she was hearing but at the same time she was. Her tail curled in her emotions, seeking out something nearby and wrapping around it for comfort, which so happened to be Kaznec's ankle. So...she was a rider dragon, but her rider had never wanted her to be one and have striven to produce such an effect. But that still left things unknown. Karen had loved her, she knew that much. Had told her all the time. Bell, you’re going to be something great one day, don’t you get me wrong about that. I love you so much my girl and I’m never going to let anyone make anything wrongful out of you. She hadn't known what that meant then, but it made sense now didn't it? “Why did she leave?”

"Yes, gold tadpole. I'm sure you've seen the little pervert in the making on the ship. the little gold dragon. he better be off this ship and back home. There's enough going on without needing the extra worry. Not to mention he'll get himself and the sky blue in trouble considering that while she's an adult physically, mentally she's barely more then a hatchling."

"Never heard a dragon described as a tadpole." Maybe it was just a term here on this plane, which wouldn't surprise her. "I be instinctually she's mature a female as ever. Personally I would find it all very amusing...and little boys are often not as brave and bold as they seem." Shrugging lightly and tending to her soup...yes she would find that all very amusing. "The one who crashed the baths before you did."

He hadn't either and thus, the confusion. It was rather amusing she seemed so put off by a small dragonling's appearance when he couldn't do anything. "Seemed pretty harmless to me. All little ones have curiosity that they choose to appease in their own way. Besides, he's too young to put his parts to any use so I wouldn't worry too much."

Nevermind the black sheep comment, the gears were already turning in his mind... Karinn had been a rebel to the Riders, a traitor even. Even without full understanding of their culture and methods, he knew that such a thing would never be tolerated. Not then, not now. Not ever... And by more or less allying with Karinn and accepting her, Ilindal had perhaps made a huge mistake and put the city and its people in grave danger. Perhaps it hadn't just been about morals, it was about politics. Considering the force the Riders had in the present, he could estimate the power their forces had had in the past. It was a constant struggle for influence on the plane, even back before the Orb had gone missing. That's what father meant by wanting to keep the scales balanced... but by interrupting the flow of such power, they had done something wrong. And apparently, it hadn't ended well.
Feeling Jae's tail curl around his ankle though, he blinked down at it and then up at her. She probably wasn't thinking the same thoughts he was. Her fears had been confirmed, she was more upset now. Instinctively, he reached out to take her hand and then turned back to watch his father. He wanted more facts, more of the story. "Where is she now? And did something happen to the city for making that decision?"

"Karinn left because she said things had become unsafe. Apparently Riders have certain....signals and the like to each other. She never told us specifically what such things were only that we should be on guard. The Riders made their point known that they were looking for her, and what she had stolen. She decided it best if she went to them, confident that she could talk them down into believing that your Jaebelltiah never even survived to hatch, and that she was not cut out to be a Rider. I advised against it...she knew what Riders knew, how could they possibly think they'd let her just leave and stay in the city?" Shaking his head lightly and frowning at the matter. "Karinn left Jaebelltiah with others, and then she walked out the gates...and she never came back, and we never heard from her thereafter. After a few weeks...we surmised that she'd probably been killed as a traitor." He still considered himself foolish for it all...but draconian pride had told him to at least try. "As for the city...aside from their occasional raids there really was no retaliation. If Karinn did anything out there, I suppose she convinced then that Jaebelltiah didn't exist. They never came looking. But after that incident...we decided that it was better they way it had been. Riders...whether good intentioned or not, were dangerous and guilty by association to where they came from. We're not sentient beings to them and we never will be, we're merely property and Riders are greedy." Looking to the white dragoness. "So that's why you're shorter than other women, and why you're coloring is nonexistent, as well as your lack of blades and such. And that's where you come from. I'm sorry you had to find out this way."
It was a sort of numb feeling really...and the truth hurt the more she heard. But despite that numb feeling that seemed to spread through her body she felt warm fingers slip through hers and hold. A simple gesture from him that meant more than he would ever let himself know. Jae knew that the woman would have died long before she herself was grown, it was the way of humans. And the loss still would of hurt, but she thought that maybe it wouldn’t hurt as much as how the truth probably was. Eyes glassing over again she turned into Kaznec and laced her free arm around his, dropping her forehead to his shoulder. It was always in her mind though that she knew she wouldn't get comfort from him, but him being there was just comforting in its own sense and she'd settle for it.
Watching the two for the moment, one practically going through the emotional gambit and the other still analyzing things. Of course he felt guilty for emotionally ripping apart young dragons; his son over his mother and Jaebelltiah over things that he had never wanted to bring up again. The two shared more than they thought really...they both had voids that would be hard to fill and could only start to fill those voids when they learned to let go of what made them constant. He also feared for them as well, what with this marking ritual that was done out of necessity...rejection came in many forms after all for both of them. "Anything else you wish to know...now is the time to ask."

"It's not putting his parts to use that concerns me. Gold dragons are rare, and rare for a reason. they are inantely very, very strong. thier breath weapons, and thier natural magical aptitude. it would not surprise me at all if he coudl learn everything our necromancer here nows in a few weeks, and top her in sheer power within months. bringing him on board will be like lighting a signal flare over the ship with a open taunt to all of them. as for his perversions...he may not have working parts, but he can touch. and he grew up in a bordello so I know he knows at least the basics of what to do with touching. we don't want him messing with sky in any kind of sexual manner especially since she doesn't know to say no."

"You think then that the little gold is going to be nothing but trouble because he is young and others will want to manipulate him to their own use?" Wasn't there something about the dragon power hierarchy being distingushed by metal or jewel coloring or something? She thought she had read it somewhere once or heard it in a story. Hm, was that now being confirmed in a sense...to her a gold dragon would be considered top of the ranks. "Even if Deacon allowed him, no one would know unless he was openly waved about like a flag." A grin though, "If I was Sky, I'd just bite him. That'd get the 'no' across. Though I dare say, I'd never thought you'd care what happens to a 'tainted dragon' so to speak."

"Personally, rehabilitation is a long, and usually unsuccessful, process. I would have probably killed her, then see what happened to my clan happen to her. I wasn't always a piratess, nor was I a loner. and other dragons don't have to see him, to smell him. and there are many methods they have to track our kind out here. Not that I wouldn't protect him, but right now, he's safer here. and I'd prefer a safe gold dragon to a potential target gold dragon."

"If you're that worried about it, why don't you become his keeper? Stick by his side and keep him out of trouble. After all, you seem to be a metallic sort yourself and you look...motherly. You can teach him what not to do and how not to behave and then you won't have to worry about him anymore. Because if I haven't missed my guess, I don't think he's going anywhere. He's rather attached to the white dragon." Which he would have thought the white would beat out the gold...but apparently not. Dragons were odd.
