Yay flutes! My band is really small and our flute section consists of three players. The past two years I didn't have band in my schedule, so I could only practice with the rest of the group when my teacher would let me leave, but I would still preform. Unfortunately because of this, I wasn't first chair, and the girl who had first was really crappy. I started playing around with the piccolo my sophomore year for pit band, and I'm really excited I actually get to play it with the rest of the band this year!

Woo. I tis a begginer flute player, I've been playing since August 2007 and I've played 3 concerts in between. Our band is small so we get alot of extra attention and alot of help! ^-^ Well actually band can be taken as a dailey class but not after the first semester(sp?). After that you have to take it after school. =P

Ayumi_Takashi Hi i'm a flutist and i'm also in the guard. so whenever i play the marching band music i automatically started going the guard routine in head... so hard to concentrate.. stare well at least concert session is coming so much easier to concentrate 4laugh I have the same problem. And if I'm listening to someone else play the music, I'll routine with my flute. Hence the various dents and/or scratches...

Hi! I love my flute... and piccolo... but my flute more... *hugs flute* My friends and I aren't exaclty how you would expect to see a flute person. You would expect a flute person to be... well all giddy and peppy. We aren't like that at all. We always wear black (people calls us gotic emo kids but we hate labels) we do stupid stuff that others think is... not normal...

Floot Loops! That's what we called the flutes last year. biggrin
Does anyone else hate the stereotype of preppy, girly-girl flutes? My flute section isn't really that, only one girl is. The rest of us are quite odd... it's fun!

My band doesn't really have that kind of stereotype. We have different types. For instance:
If you play a flute, your theme song is "Loony Tunes" If you play a trumpet, you're bossy and always want your way If you play a clarinet, you don't practice, even if you're amazing If you are a precussionist, if you lose a brain cell, you've lost half of what you've got If you play trombone, you are ditzy and the mortal enemy of the trumpets
And such
But our BD never misses a chance to make fun of the flutes, just for fun.

Hello~!!! 3nodding
Our band is 5A but we're actually kind of small. I believe we only have 10 flutes and 2, including me are graduating this year. I intend to continue marching band in college though. I love the feeling of being on the field. I've actually been only playing for 3 years and I made 2nd band after the first in my high school. It feels nice to be able to talk to people with common interests. You know, the whole selling your soul to your band director during marching season and all the practice during solo and ensemble season. lol sweatdrop heart

Hey a flute thread! I'm home! I'm actually new here. I did Solo and Ensemble last year and got Second division. Nobody from our school who went got 4th or 5th. But when we got our poster I realized they had spelled my name wrong. I had joined VMB, but it didn't work out. I got sick to often and couldn't make it to practice. I'm not joining agian next year. There are twelve flutes in my band. It is the largest section, there are six more flutes than clarinet, seven more than tuba, eight more than baritone, ten more than bass clarinet and tenor sax, nine more than sax, no trombone, and eight more than trumpet.

Our band has fifteen flutes, two of which play piccolo sometimes. I've been reading through some of these posts and found that a lot of people don't like their BDs... That's strange for me because I've always really liked mine. I hold a lot of respect for them. Well, maybe except for the colorguard instructor, since she didn't know what D-U-H spelled, but everyone still likes to make fun of her. It was pretty funny, actually. One time when we were practicing marching, all of the trumpet section goofed really badly, so the BD started talking to them and at the end said, "D-U-H" and then the CI was all, "What's that spell?" It's been a running joke since.

I'm a flute! Seriously though, I've been playing for almost 9 years. My HS band was small, about 36 people and had 8 flutes, 3 that could play piccolo, including me. One was my awesome friend symphonious who is the only guy flutist in the whole county. He says flute is the manliest instrument and trombone is the girliest, no idea why, he's crazy. Flute is the only instrument that our BD wouldn't play; we tried.
Now I'm with the Berea College Wind Ensemble, not in it, yet; waiting for audition results. But if I don't get in, I'll audition every chance I get until I do or the director is fed up with me and admits defeat! Friends with a lot of the people in the WE though, many of them first chairs and such, which cold be an advantage.
