Garchomp snorted again, giving her head a shake. Of course she could fly, what else were her wings and fins for? Growling slightly, the dragon tromped a little closer to Jason, leaning down and peering at the drawing that Jason had just finished. Blinking a few times, the Mach Pokemon gave a grunt of approval before patting the boy on the head and turning back to study the landscapes. She and Cynthia had been all sorts of places lately, but she was very glad to be back in her home region.

Cynthia was quite impressed by Jason's skills with a pencil as well, and she applauded lightly, wearing a wide smile. "My, my, that's incredible, it looks just like her. You even got the angle of her fins just perfect." The drawing really was one of the finest pieces of art she'd ever seen, and she was awed that the young boy possessed that much talent. "Well, unless you'd like to draw some more, might I suggest allowing Zeus to release some of his excess electricity?" she asked, worried for the Magnemite's well-being.

"Ehh? What's that? Speak up, Sonny! I can't hear you!" the old woman said, peering up at Jake through dark eyes, which were lined with crow's feet. She appeared to be in relatively good health for her age, with the only exception being the fact that her hearing aid had been knocked loose in the collision and was dangling awkwardly.

"I ran into you," Jake said, his tone slightly louder and clearer, though still apologetic. "I'm really, very sorry, and I hope you're not hurt." he added as he placed a dented can of tomato sauce in the basket, followed by a few apples.

"Eh?" she said, shaking her head. "No, I don't have any yogurt. I can't eat the stuff, it backs me up, y'know?"

Jake shuddered, but regained his composure as he collected his PokeNav and Dex, making sure neither were damaged before he stuck them in the pockets of his aviator jacket. "That's, uh, nice," he said, wanting nothing more than to run away as fast as he could. "Sorry again," he said, scratching his head. "I think I should go now."

"What's that? You wanna battle this tough old bird?" she cackled, grinning up at him. "I say, sonny, you sure now how to make a lady feel special! You got it, Sweet Cheeks, but don't think this old lady's gonna go easy on you!"

Jake could only blink in reply, very certain that he hadn't challenged the woman to battle. Vaguely, in the back of his mind, he couldn't help but find this whole scene very familiar.

When she woke up, Amy's head felt heavy. She was almost immediately seized by the desire to remain in bed for the day, but if she just laid there and tried to sleep more, she would think about things until her entire resolve crumbled and she was ready to avoid confrontation and go back to losing contests. Plus, it would've wasted an entire day that could've been put to great use. She had plans for her next Pokemon, for her new beginning, so there was no use just sleeping all day. In fact, there was a sense of urgency about her plans when she thought about it; she feared that if she stayed still too long, there would be something she would miss. An opportunity. A new friend. Her father.

She wasn't really willing to miss any of the above, so with a small groan, the Maple girl crawled out of bed and padded over to the bathroom again. She looked at herself in the mirror, noting the tired eyes, messy hair, and slightly haggard features. After an eventful night like that, she wasn't that surprised that she looked a little worse for wear. But for the moment, Amy pushed those thoughts of her head and set about to making herself look presentable for the moment.

After splashing some water in her face and brushing her teeth, she looked a little better. She still looked tired, but she would have to live with that for at least today and just hope her next night's sleep wasn't riddled with nightmares. As Amy began to run a brush through her hair, she headed back into her room, looking at the Leaf Pokemon still sprawled out on her bed. A tired smile found its way to the girl's lips, and then she felt a pang of guilt-- she had forgotten entirely to get Marshall healed since his contest battle. He had been left to the darkness of his own Pokeball for the entire night, fainted from Jerome's Cacturne.

At the thought of the contest, Amy felt another flash of guilt, mostly for leaving without seeing all of Riza's battles. Who had even won? But she decided she wouldn't find out; she had to push her mind from contests until she had a full, prepared team and some experience behind the metaphorical belt. Now her thoughts had to turn towards the path of a trainer: which meant serious training, participating in battles, catching more Pokemon, and possibly even (she gulped at the thought) take on some gyms.

The girl collected her glasses from the bedside table and recalled the still-sleeping Flora into her Pokeball. After making sure that everything was in her bag and that she was ready to head back out into the suddenly scary world, Amy left her room and went over to Nurse Joy, softly asking her to heal her Pokemon and placing the key to her room on the counter. Once the nurse had taken the two Pokeballs, the girl quickly grabbed a bagel from the cafeteria and glanced at the clock in the lobby. It was pretty early, still. People from the contest who might've been staying here would probably allow themselves to sleep in after all of their hard work. Or after the grief of their losses, Amy wasn't sure which.

She plopped down on a chair and waited for her Pokemon to be healed, noting the mostly empty lobby as she bit into her bagel. She gradually lost herself in the gentle hum of the machines behind the counter and memories of last night. Especially that strange incident in Eliza's shop, the thought of which elicited a shudder that passed through the girl. It was creepy, for sure, and she hadn't even stopped to think of Eliza. Was the woman all right? Thoroughly lost in her own thoughts, Amy merely sat there, staring plaintively at her barely-touched bagel.

Staravia let out a shrill caw as it swooped down, wing beginning to glow as it approached Solaris. The Vulpix stood her ground, fur bristling as she aimed a pointed glare at the rapidly approaching bird and awaited instructions from Jade. The girl remained rather nonchalant, eyes carefully regarding the bird as it descended. Closer, closer, closer...

"Ember, now!" Jade barked in an ethusiastic tone, pointing at Staravia. Solaris obeyed immediately, mouth opening wide before a few flames emerged as the bird swooped down, aiming to clip the Fox Pokemon with the glowing wing. There was a pained caw as Staravia was derailed from its course, the sudden pain removing thoughts of flight in favor of a more... earthly path. As in, the Starling Pokemon skidded into the dirt, tumbling into Solaris and dragging her along with it as they landed in a heap.

Jade chose to ignore the thinly-concealed look of fury the man aimed at her; she saw an opportunity and she took it. This was a battle, it was no time for holding back punches. Particularly if she didn't know how stronger this Pokemon was and if it meant her getting across the water. So she calmly waited for Solaris to stop growling and pawing at Staravia and get serious again.

"Quick Attack," grumbled the man, "gain some distance." Staravia followed suit, flapping its wings at Solaris to get her to back away before she was off in a blur of white. Jade's eyes narrowed as she watched the streak of light get away from Solaris before heading straight for her again.

"Quick Attack, Solaris," Jade called out, lips pulling upwards in a slight smile. The Vulpix nodded once and took to action, matching Staravia's speed easily. The two blurs darted around the field, chasing each other or trying to avoid each other, neither trainer was particularly sure. But then, suddenly, one blur made an abrupt turn, too quickly for the other to notice and follow, and then there was a loud thud as the second blur rammed straight into the trunk of a tree. It was revealed to be Solaris, who let out a small whimper as she fell back on the grass, shaky on her feet.

"Solaris!" Jade called out, moving to go over and tend to her Vulpix, but the other man motioned for her to stay where she was. After a moment of trembling, the Fox Pokemon shook her head once and huffed angrily, glaring at the Staravia that now glided at a normal speed. The girl nodded at her Vulpix, and she nodded back, as if to say that she was still okay to battle. Then they both directed their glares at the Staravia, who seemed to give both a glance as if it was superior. "What do you say, Solaris? Let's teach these two a lesson." There was a small cry of emphatic agreement from the Vulpix and Jade's small smile broadened into a full-blown grin.

It was still quite early in the morning when the pained throbbing of her injured hand awoke her, and groggily she sat up, rubbing her eyes with the back of her good hand. She then stared down at the bandages now decorating her left hand and pulled it closer, glad to see that it had eventually stopped bleeding, though the bandage already needed to be changed. "Good thing it wasn't my right hand," the redhead thought, slowly getting out of bed. It felt like a thunderstorm was raging inside her head as her feet carefully touched down on the smooth linoleum floor.

Despite having fallen asleep almost immediately the night before, she still felt quite tired, dizzy and even a little weak, but as her stomach rumbled, she realized that both the worst of her headache and dizziness were probably due to hunger. "Stupid low blood sugar," the redhead muttered as she gathered a few of her things and headed for the bathroom. After brushing her teeth and getting herself a good drink of water she stepped into the shower, though it turned out to be a far more difficult task than she realized it would be when it came to her damaged hand. Awkwardly she managed to wash her hair and most of the rest of herself, and figuring that was good enough she rinsed and dried off, having finally discarded the soaked and ruined bandage and settling for a makeshift one made out of paper towels from the restroom.

Dressing herself was also a very difficult task, as she was unable to zip up her light grey hoodie nor was she able to put her red hair up into anything but a lopsided and very uneven ponytail, but otherwise she was ready to face her day. She also discovered that the night nurse had left her a package of bandages for her hand, as well as a note that warned her to be more careful. Her first order of business was retrieving the four Pokeballs she'd left at the front desk, though there was a slight wait and the nurse told her to come back in a few. Karrigan nodded, heading to the cafeteria as she thought about the Kadabra's brave actions. His capture had been temporary, as promised, and she fully intended to bring him back to Route 25 and explain to him fully what had happened, and thoroughly thank him as if it had not been for him, she wouldn't be standing here right now.

Though she felt ravenous, she knew better than to eat a large amount so she settled on a bottle of orange juice and a small bowl of fresh, diced fruit and plain yogurt before finding herself a seat, though she quickly discovered that her bandaged hand was fairly useless as she couldn't even pry the lid from her juice bottle, nor could she open the sealed bowl that contained her breakfast. Oh, this is just perfect, the redheaded girl thought angrily, now glaring at her food as though the act alone would magically open everything for her.

"Hehehe, you're just sayin that." Jason said a little embarrassed by the champions praise. He just tried to capture the pokemon as best he could in his sketches, after all it was hard to do analysis and to study from an inaccurate and poor picture. His skill came from drawing pokemon on a regular basis making sure to get them as lifelike as possible, though it might not be a stretch to say he already had a talent for it. Flipping his book closed Jason stashed away his equipment and bowed to Garchomp, then Cynthia. "Thank you very much for allowing me to draw you, and thank you for letting me draw her. I would love to draw more of your pokemon...but you're right. I probably should have let Zeus drain himself first." Scratching the back of his head he took Atlas and Zeus's pokeballs and released them both. Atlas was still looking a little tired from his battle, but otherwise alright. Zeus on the other hand was still very very twitchy. Being further away from the city than before it seemed to calm him down a little, but Zeus was still uneasy and jittery, zipping back and fourth letting stray bolts of electricity shoot out. "Can you hear me buddy? Hang in there for a bit ok, we'll get you all better. Atlas I know you're kinda beat but you just gotta sit there for now alright? Ok, Zeus use thundershock on Atlas and don't stop, give him all the juice you have until I say ok?" Zeus was jutting back and forth, and zapped Jason with a bolt, but seemed to be trying to orbit around Atlas, at least he seemed to understand. it took some doing but the next thing they knew a high volume of bright lightning was pouring out of Zeus, and while it was somewhat scattered most of it was covering Atlas's body passing through him and into the ground harmlessly.

"Ah, Maria quick get out of the way!" Carlos called out, committed to the battle and his music, as he called out his guitar tones changed with the flow of battle. Paralysis was never a good thing and it wasn't something any pokemon, flying or otherwise, wanted to come down with. It was too late however, Maria had been busy singing letting her melody carry around to do anything else, and her song was abruptly ended with a painful chirp as the wave of electricity washed over her small body seizing her entire body. Carlos frowned, but he could see that the little pikachu was dozing off having fallen asleep mid retreat. "Maria now is your chance!" But this was not an opportunity she was going to be able to take, as she fell to the ground her wings not working at them moment as the electricity took hold of her body and paralyzed her completely. "A good play Lieutenant, a good counter strategy."

She still sat quietly in the lobby, staring at her bagel and near lost in her own thoughts. When she had gone to visit Eliza's shop last night, the door was open but all of the lights were off and no one was there. Well, except for that creepy stranger that Amy hardly even saw but still managed to be absolutely terrified of. There was some aura about him, about his presence (was the stranger even male?) that just... inspired fear. And only now was she realizing that something terrible could've happened to the kindly old woman; she frowned at the thought. Maybe she would go visit the shop after eating breakfast and getting her Pokemon. Just a quick stop, to see if she was all right, before leaving Cerulean.

Then again, where was she planning to go now? After getting her third Pokemon, Amy had no particular plans of what to do. She supposed she would have to train and battle other trainers, and look into gyms to challenge. But she hardly knew anything about gyms; for instance, she knew that the gym leader of Cerulean, Misty, was a Water-type specialist, but how strong was she? Which leader would be best for Amy to challenge? Riza had said something about getting her first badge from Surge, but all of her Pokemon looked incredibly strong...

A sigh slipped past the girl's lips; she was overthinking things. She would go forward one step at a time. For now, all she knew was that she would visit Eliza's shop and go looking for a new addition to her team. Oh, she also knew that she should probably drink something to go with that bagel. Chuckling at her own scatter-brained ways, Amy stood and walked back into the cafeteria to get some juice or a bottle of water.

After collecting a small bottle of orange juice, Amy looked at all of the people in the PokeCenter's cafeteria, though there didn't seem to be that many. Among the few was a redheaded girl, who seemed to be glaring at her food instead of eating it. Upon further inspection, Amy discovered that her hand was bandaged and a pang of sympathy swept through her. Poor thing must not be able to open her food.

"Do you need some help?" Amy asked in a quiet, polite tone as she neared the girl. She offered her a kind smile. Slowly, she reached out to take the teen's juice, ready to retract her hands if the girl glared at her or swatted her away. But, thankfully, she didn't, and Amy unscrewed the cap to the girl's orange juice, setting it down gently before her. She did the same with the other's fruit cup and offered her another small smile, feeling as though she was being annoying. "S-sorry... I just... you looked like you might've needed some help. I didn't mean to..." At a loss for words, she turned a little red and ducked her head in embarassment, fully ready to leave the poor girl alone forever now.

Solaris and Staravia darted around the battlefield now, each trying to land an attack on the other but neither successful in the attempt. After that tree trunk incident, Jade was all-too hesitant to order another Quick Attack, figuring her little Vulpix might get a little too over-confident and be lead into an easy trap like that one again. Her time was wasting away, though, and she didn't like to spend too long doing one thing (patience was certainly not her virtue), so the battle ending was within the girl's best interests.

"Solaris," Jade called, smile quickly fading when the Starling Pokemon avoided yet another Ember attack. "We need to rethink this. No use chasing after them. Run!" Confused at the order, Solaris cocked her head to the left quizzically, but Jade made an impatient noise and the Fox Pokemon took off. She ran in the opposite direction of her opponent, not sure where she was to run to or what she was supposed to do.

"That's your strategy, girlie? Run?" the man asked with a snort of amusement. "Staravia, let's end this quickly. Wing Attack, again!" The Starling Pokemon let out a caw of agreement and its wing began to glow again before it swooped after the speedy little fox. The Vulpix ran faster still, casting a few wary glances over her shoulder at the bird in pursuit.

"Solaris, turn around," Jade said, her calm confidence returning along with her smirk. "Ember, now!" Solaris leapt and twisted, releasing an Ember in Staravia's face as it swept down to make its strike. The bird let out an indignant cry and faltered, gradually lowering.

"Keep yourself steady, girl!" the man called out to his Staravia, who let out another cry and leveled herself, much lower to the ground. "Double Team!"

"Double Team?" Jade growled, watching Staravia suddenly multiply from one to three birds, all flying in the air. "That's your strategy?" What a nuisance it was! She was fairly sure that the copies couldn't attack Solaris, so at least it wasn't like the battle wasn't dangerously out of her favor. She just had to think this one through; how exactly could her little fire fox take care of three airborne birds? This battle was becoming much more complicated than the teen anticipated.

The door to the ladies' bathroom banged noisily as Riza practically charged through it, and even though it was empty, she found an empty stall and stepped inside, quickly closing and locking the door behind her. She wasn't sure why, but her seemingly infallible confidence was rattled, even though nothing had even really happened yet. She'd passed the appeals round with flying colours, and she'd won her first battle as well, so what was the matter with her? What was she so afraid of? Feeling the colour drain from her face, her stomach lurched, and soon after its contents were quickly relocated to the toilet bowl. Coughing, Riza managed to flush the mess away with a shaky hand, certain she'd heard the door to the washroom open. The raven haired girl fell silent as she listened, for a few moments the only audible sound was the gurgling of the toilet. Then, clear as day Riza heard it, the very obvious sound of high heels clicking against the ceramic tile floor.

"...'Ello? Mon cher petite Riza, où es-tu?" came a voice, and even through the thick French Riza could hear the worry in the woman's familiar voice. A few moments later there was a knock at her stall door, and Riza could see a pair of fashionable purple heels just under the door. "Z'ere is no one else in 'ere, so I know you are 'zere," Fantina went on, now continually knocking on the door until Riza stood up and slid the lock open. "Ah hah! Je t'ai trouvée!" she giggled, until she noticed the poor girl's sallow complexion, and sweat soaked brow. "My, my! Whatever has happened to you?"

Riza peered up at the older woman through steel-grey eyes, unable to find words to express her feelings. Another wave of nausea slammed her like a tiny boat being rocked in a stormy sea and she whirled around and was sick again, this time flushing quite quickly before she turned back to the gym leader and contest master. "I-I think it's just my nerves," she stammered, which wasn't a complete untruth. Knowing there wasn't too much time before the next round, she pushed past Fantina and made her way to the sink where she rinsed out her mouth and gently wiped her face down, though her makeup was already somewhat ruined. She could see Fantina's reflection in the mirror now as well, and she gulped. "I don't know," she answered. "I was fine one moment, and then the next... I saw Shiro, and he looked kind of, well, different. I'm not sure why, but I suddenly just lost it."

Fantina nodded, watching the girl carefully. "I cannot say for sure," she began, moving towards the sinks and holding up a small handbag, which she opened. "But it sounds to moi like you are afraid of battling with Monsieur Crenu. I cannot say for certain what ze outcome will be, but if you are to become a true contest champion, you have to put z'ese feelings behind you." She'd taken out a small case and quickly worked to touch up Riza's makeup as she spoke. In no time Riza looked as though nothing had happened, and she smiled at the girl. "When we are on ze stage, we must separate ourselves from our emotions. If you want z'his ribbon, z'hen you must fight with all of your strength, even if it's against someone you love. I think I have some'ting z'hat will help."

'Love?' Riza thought, her cheeks flushing slightly. It wasn't something she'd really given a lot of thought to. She knew she had feelings for Shiro, but she hadn't yet fully sorted them out. All she knew right now was that she liked him, she liked having him around, and that her heart always seemed to be beating a little faster whenever he was around. She did know, however, that Fantina was right, and that she'd have to put her emotions on the back burner so that she could focus solely on the next round. "Help?" she repeated, looking up at the gym leader a bit skeptically. "How can you do that?"

Indeed, crashing face first into the ground had been quite painful for Nell, and the Buneary winced as she pulled herself to her feet, watching somewhat gratefully as her team mate was pulled back into his poke ball to get rid of his confusion. Her ears twitched a bit as the black and yellow Elekid now made an appearance on the battlefield, it seemed Miles was in a time out for now. Nell looked back at the purplish Espeon just in time to it send a rainbow coloured beam speeding towards Kord, who'd previously loosed a strong blast of electricity.

"Bun!" she cried, hoping he'd dodge. Katie had called out at the same time, also wanting her young Elekid to dodge. Kord didn't like the looks of that colourful beam heading towards him and he quickly rolled to the side, using his hands to springboard up just for good measure. Looking back he saw the remainder of the Psybeam fizzle out in the place he'd just been standing, and he smirked at Serenity, brimming with confidence.

“Right!” Mitsu agreed, nodding her head. She took a split second to decide to recall Ebony, who had taken the brunt of the attacks from battle. He could use a quick rest and she’d take advantage of every second they had for that. With that in mind, and a quick apology she also recalled Sapphire who was a bit reluctant to be back in his Safari Ball.

The cave seemed to never end and the walls were drifting farther and farther apart the farther they went. It was as if the corridor was leading to a battle field or some sort of open space. There wasn’t much that either of them knew about the Magma base and Mitsu didn’t quite know what to expect. This infiltration mission didn’t have much information backing it, so she had to be on her toes at all times. Who knew how many more grunts they were going to have to battle or how much stronger they would become the farther into the base they got.

Her silent inquiries were soon answered as they did in fact arrive in a larger open area with a large looming figure cloaked in the signature reds and dark grays of Team Magma. Unlike the grunts they’d fought beforehand his outfit was also accompanied by a cape. Mitsu didn’t have to think twice before categorizing him as a non-hero. There was only thing more disturbing than the realization that they were facing more than the average minion was his cocky smirk, oddly framed with his shoulder length wavy hair.

“Heh, those idiots didn’t tell me how puny you all were,” the Magma admin chuckled. His laughter was loud, booming, and all surrounding as it filled the cavern. “The name’s Tabitha, Admin of Team Magma. Thought you all outta know in case that runt Mike asked who wrecked half his friends!”

Mitsu grit her teeth, clearly unhappy with the hulking figure blocking their path. And the tone he was using when talking about Mike made her blood boil.

“Looks like the small, purple one’s angry,” Tabitha laughed again. “Why don’t you show me what you got, girly? Hell, I’ll fight all three of ya at once!” With his last overconfident statement the Magma administrator launched three Pokeballs into the air. A Swellow, a Golbat, and a Marcargo appeared from their respective Pokeballs, all looking as arrogant as their trainer.

“I may be small but my Pokemon sure as hell aren’t,” Mitsu retorted, selecting a red and white sphere from her belt. “And you know what? We’re both angry!” The thin beam of red light quickly morphed into a larger and larger serpent like shape before flashing to reveal that Nightmare, Mitsu’s Gyarados had been selected for battle. The Pokemon glared at his opponent, just as unhappy as his trainer though certainly a lot more terrifying. Nightmare roared angrily, sending echoes down the cave.

The purple haired girl turned to her two friends, her eyes reflecting an odd mixture of nervousness and confidence. “Kilik, Sasha, you ready?”

Though Surge didn't show it, he was more than a little relieved that baby had managed to pull off her Thunder Wave before Maria's sweet lullaby had gotten to her. However, he did know that the Swablu was better off, at least for now, as her paralysis would only make attacking difficult, not entirely impossible. The young Pikachu was snoring quite soundly on the gym floor, her tail twitching very slightly. The gym leader did chuckle a bit when he saw the small, cottony bird unable to attack, and he glanced back to Baby, very much needing for her to wake up soon.

"Ten-hut! Baby, on yer feet! Give 'im a Thunda'shock!" he bellowed, and clapped his large hands, though neither his booming voice or the thunderous clapping of his hands could yet rouse the young Pikachu from her slumber.

"It's not a problem," the champion smiled, reaching up to pet the Mach Pokemon's nose as she'd moved closer to her master. The dragon gave a yawn, and Cynthia recalled her, now looking towards Jason as he decided it was time to drain Zeus the Magnemite of its excess energy. The Onix was clearly tired from his previous battle with the Munchlax, though he stood proud, and Cynthia watched attentively as the Electric and Steel-type unleashed its Thundershock unto the Rock and Ground-type. The electricity easily dissipated into the ground, and Cynthia idly wondered what it felt like to be a Ground-type Pokemon shrugging off a fierce electrical blast such as that one.

Certain the energy drain wouldn't take much longer, Cynthia took a handful of plump, blue berries from her bag and handed them to Jason. "Feed these to Atlas when Zeus is finished," she told the boy. "Oran Berries do wonders for restoring energy."

He may be young, but that little guy's got an ego the size of a Wailord, Mai thought, wearing a bit of a smirk of her own as she watched the Elekid's deft dodge. Serenity's ear twitched and she looked away, having never really been a fan of overly egotistical Pokemon. Her body was also hurting a bit, as even though she was quite strong and experienced in comparison to Katie's Pokemon, being attacked over and over again did add up over time.

Mai watched her Pokemon quite carefully, her thoughts closely mirroring those of the Espeon. Content with the fact that she continued to hold the upper-hand, she folded her arms over her chest and smirked. "Serenity, go ahead and use Morning Sun," she said. The Espeon nodded, closing her eyes as she felt the warmth of the sun on her velvety fur. It wasn't as bright as it could have been, as the trees overhead were blocking out a lot of the light, but it was enough to give her a quite-welcomed boost of health.

Almost as if summoned by her thoughts, the lids came free of both her juice bottle and fruit bowl, and it took a few moments for an amazed and confused Karrigan to realize that it hadn't been her superior powers of glaring angrily at inanimate objects, but the intervention of a kind stranger. Blinking a few times, the redheaded girl looked up to see another girl - maybe a year younger than her but it was difficult to tell - blushing red in embarrassment. Then, the bespectacled brunette offered an apology, which was even stranger. Karrigan bit her lip, knowing she should say something, but she wasn't very good at social interactions.

"Um, no need to apologize," she said finally, offering her small, shy smile. "Actually I really did need some help, so uh, thank you. Thank you very much." She nodded as though to emphasize that the situation was all good, despite the fact that she felt very out of place. Regardless, the girl had been quite helpful, as Karrigan probably would have just given up and gotten Ikouma to open the blasted things for her.

It was then that she noticed the other girl had her own bottle of orange juice, and a barely-nibbled on bagel. Deciding it best to be polite, she nodded to the empty seat across from her. "Why don't you sit down?" she offered, taking a sip of her juice as though to further prove that she wasn't upset by the girl's intervening.

The old woman cackled once again, setting her basket down. "I'm sure a handsome young man such as yourself has plenty of things to do on a fine day like this one, so I'll go easy on ya and make it one on one!" Grinning from ear to ear, the woman then, much to Jake's horror, reached down her shirt and pulled out a Pokeball. With practiced ease, she clicked it once to enlarge it and sent it flying, revealing a small, black quadruped with golden ring-like markings covering its body. Having yet to get over the initial shock of where the creepy woman had gotten her Pokeball from, Jake didn't really recognize it from a hole in the ground, though there was a nagging in the back of his mind that he should know what Pokemon this was. "Come on, Sonny!" she hollered. "Make yer move!"

Nervously, Jake took up one of his own Pokeballs and sent it for a ride, revealing his choice for the match, which would be Grotle. In truth, Jake hadn't even known who he was sending out, figuring either would do for this situation. Grotle stood rooted to the spot, glancing warily from the old woman to her golden-ringed battling partner before looking back over his shoulder at Jake. How come he couldn't have sent out Bibarel for this? After all, she was far more fond of fighting than he was.

All at once, the elderly woman pointed at Grotle, ordering a Quick Attack. Jake, still reeling from the sudden and very strange challenge had only just caught up to speed enough to check for the Pokemon in his PokeDex, though the device had yet to even make a reading as soon the black Pokemon was darting at Grotle as fast as its legs could carry it. Grotle could only brace himself as the black Pokemon crashed into him at full force, though his evolution had provided a serious weight and strength upgrade, and the hit hurt far less than he'd expected it to. Well how about that, the bewildered Grass-type thought, grinning to himself.

Amy kept her focus on her own feet as her embarassed blush began to fade away. She was never the social butterfly, even as a kid, but this was getting a tad ridiculous. Perhaps while she learned to be a trainer, she would learn to be a more socially capable person on top of that. Thankfully, the girl didn't seem offended at all, and even thanked her, so she risked looking back up at her, smiling a little.

"You're welcome," Amy murmured softly. When the redhead turned her focus to the things she held, Amy looked at them as if she just remembered having them, her own breakfast, barely touched. She began to turn, to head to the lobby where she would enjoy eating about half of her breakfast before getting lost in worries of the days to come, when the girl spoke up again, offering the seat across from here. She smiled gratefully to her and sat down, setting the juice on the table before putting the bagel on a napkin she had collected.

"Thanks. I'm Amy," she said after a beat, tearing off a piece of the bagel and eating it. "Amy Maple. And you are?" She paused, listening to the girl as she opened up her own juice and took a sip. After another moment, Amy glanced at the girl's hand, which must've been the cause of all the trouble. She smiled again, uncertainly. "If you don't mind me asking... what happened to your hand?"

"You know something? I'm really getting tired of this battle," Jade muttered irritably, eyes narrowing as she watched the three Staravias form a circle overhead of her little fox. They were like vultures, looking upon prey about to fall. Solaris tensed, gazing up at the birds with a newfound wariness. "Don't let them get to you, Solaris! Keep a steady head; we kinda need to win this."

"Getting tired already?" the older man called to Jade, amusement tainting his voice. He let out a hearty chuckle and pointed a finger at Solaris. "Quick Attack, Staravia! Show 'em what we're made of!" There was a chorus of trills from the Starling Pokemon and its copies, and they all began their descent, dissolving into nothing more than a blur followed by a white trail of light.

"Solaris!" Jade called out, feeling suddenly very useless. She wasn't sure if she wanted to risk commanding for a head-on attack when there were two copies of the target and all three of them were going that fast. If Solaris used Roar, they would just call out another Pokemon, and she was pretty sure that this Staravia was the man's weakest of his team. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment and let out a hiss of frustration, finally spitting out, "Quick Attack! J-just get away from them!"

Solaris instantly took off, now leaving the battle just a mess of white blurs, chasing each other across the field. There was a sharp gasp from both sides when two blurs intersected, but then one of them vanished and Solaris skidded to a halt, discovering that she had destroyed one of the clones. She let out a small cry of victory before one of the remaining blurs rammed right into her, sending the little fox tumbling across the field. Staravia slowed to a stop and loomed over the Fox Pokemon, its clone fading away after a moment.

There was a command on the tip of Jade's tongue, but she found herself unable to form words. The man could order the battle over right now, with Solaris being completely open to attack. The Pokemon just laid there, panting a little, wincing up at the Starling Pokemon with contempt. As the man began to laugh and order for a finishing Wing Attack, the Vulpix abruptly leapt up, eyes burning with anger.

"Vulpix!" Solaris cried, tails straightening in her fury as her mouth open. A moment later, a burst of flame emerged, but instead of hitting Staravia directly, it began to encircle the bird. Now it was trapped in a tight vortex that burned ferociously, eliciting a sharp, pained cry. Jade smiled.

"Fire Spin," she said softly, command finally loosed from her tongue, although belatedly. It seemed she and her Vulpix shared a common strategy. "Nice work, Solaris."

Karrigan once again sipped her orange juice, watching as her lid-opening savior sat down in the spot opposite her. Now that she'd spotted the bagel, Karrigan realized it looked rather yummy and she almost wished she'd gotten one for herself. However, now that her fruit cup had been opened, she was able to peel off the foil covering of the yogurt container and carefully spoon it over the fruit.

"Karrigan Roberts," she answered quickly, taking a second to study her new breakfast companion. "Amy," she repeated, nodding. "That's a nice name." The redhead speared a piece of honeydew melon with her plastic fork and ate it, finding it to be sweet, juicy, and very refreshing. She enjoyed a few more pieces of the delicious fruit, glancing up again only when Amy brought up the inevitable question of her hand.

"Uh, yeah, it's all right," she said, staring at the bandage that decorated her left hand. As if on cue, the wound began to throb painfully, though Karrigan ignored it. "It was... a Beedrill," she said quietly, able to recall with perfect clarity just how terrifying it had been to have that swarm of menacing bee Pokemon attacking her and her Pokemon, and she idly wondered if they'd be angry with her for putting them in such a lopsided situation. "It got me with its stinger, and as bad as it is, I guess I'm far luckier that it didn't poison me." She sighed, and then shrugged before continuing to enjoy her fruit salad, soon realizing that it would probably be polite of her to continue the conversation. "So, uh, what brings you to Cerulean?" she asked, figuring it was a generic enough question to ask.

"Oh, my! That's quite a hearty little Grotle you've got there," the woman chuckled, clapping her hands. "I can see that this is going to be quite the fun little match!"

Jake pretended he didn't hear her as he was now studying the entry for the Pokemon he was facing. The PokeDex said it was an Umbreon, and the name sounded more than familiar as it tumbled around in his head. He glanced up at the Moonlight Pokemon, then back to the dex again. That's odd, he thought, closing it after taking a mental note that it was a Dark-type. For some reason, I clearly remember the rings of an Umbreon being blue, not gold. He tried to shake away the odd thoughts and instead tried to focus on the battle, the blue-ringed Umbreon still haunting his mind. "Okay, uh, Grotle, give it a Tackle," he said finally, still not very used to Grotle's new name, or form.

The Grass-type in question nodded before he began to dash forward, also still getting used to his new weight and size. He got a pretty good pace going, and he focused his gaze on the sleek black Pokemon that had just smashed into him, throwing his weight into a shoulder-Tackle.

"Oh ho ho! It's not going to be that easy, Sweet Cheeks," the woman laughed, waggling her finger at Jake. "Umbreon, show them how to dodge, and then counter with a Sand-Attack!"

The Umbreon did just that, waiting for the last second before it darted out of the way of Grotle's Tackle. It waited again, this time for the Grove Pokemon to turn around and face it, and the moment he did, Umbreon pivoted low, using its tail to sweep up a cloud of sand and dust from the ground and fling it directly into Grotle's face. Surprised, Grotle cried out and stumbled back, thrashing his head back and forth as his eyes burned and stung. Not hesitating for a second, the Umbreon once again launched itself forward on the old woman's command, landing a fairly solid Tackle of its own squarely into Grotle's chest.

The great city of Jubilife began to feel even larger than it already was to the girl from a small town called Pastoria as she ran around, almost aimlessly, in search of flamboyantly dressed circus people. So far Mia had found zero of the three clowns she was told to find, but she was determined! A normal person probably would have procured a map and either made some sort of grid of the city to systematically search for their targets or have first found out major locations in the city and checked their first. Both would have been excellent and through strategies that, in theory, didn’t require backtracking and looking in places that one had already been. However, Mia was by no means “normal” and neither were her methods. She’d been down this very street at least twice now, still running around Jubilife at breakneck speeds. But what Mia was, was lucky. Upon rounding a corner of a large building surrounded by children Mia spotted the first of the clowns. He was dressed in an orange and white polka dotted suit with crazy colored hair and a round red nose to complete his disguise.

“Mr. Clown!” she yelled, waving her arms around like an over excited child. She rushed over to the multi-hued character, eyes shining brilliantly at the costumed person before her.

“Bingo kiddo!” the clown remarked with a goofy smile causing the children around him laughed. “Here’s your ticket! And a clue! You can find my buddy at a building with the same color roof as this one!” The promotional clown pointed a single gloved finger up at the building.

“Trainer’s school. Red roof. Got it. Thanks Mr. Clown!” Mia chimed, snatching the ticket eagerly before stuffing it into her pocket and running away. There was one place that the girl immediately thought of when she thought about a red roof: The Pokemon Center. That had to be it! Geographically the Pokemon Center was right across the street from the Trainer’s School, but of course Mia had missed it in her swift exit. She was already half way across the city before she even remembered that she was supposed to be looking for the Pokemon Center. Now out of breath and kind of tired, the silly girl skidded to a stop. “Okay, okay,” she gasped, doubling over, trying to fill her lungs with as much oxygen as humanly possible. “I gotta stop and try and find the Pokemon Center.”

Amy supposed that it would've been good to have something to put on her bagel, but she didn't mind all that much. As long as it was still warm, she would enjoy it. She picked off another chunk of the bagel and chewed it thoughtfully, nudging her glasses further up the bridge of her nose as the other girl introduced herself.

"I-- oh, thank you," she said, smiling a little at the other girl's compliment. "I was just about to say, I really like your name, too. It's very unique." She seemed to settle a bit, unease put to rest with the kindness of this stranger, and she took another piece of bagel before sipping her juice quietly. She was a very neat eater.

"A Beedrill?" Amy repeated, unsure if she had misheard Karrigan or not. She imagined one of those Flying/Bug-types getting extra stabby with their stingers and winced sympathetically. "Oh my, that's awful! I'm so sorry that happened to you." She was going to ask if the girl had gotten it looked at, but then she guessed that Karrigan probably had, since the bandages weren't make-shift and she didn't seem too worried about it. The young girl was broken from her thoughts when Karrigan asked her something, and her blue eyes widened a bit.

"Um, the contest, actually," Amy said, taking another drink of her orange juice. "I didn't do so well. I didn't do very well at all, actually, but I'm not trying to dwell on that." She chuckled a little sadly and shrugged, showing that it wasn't that big a deal. "What about you? How did you come to Cerulean?"

"You should just call back your Pokemon now," Jade called out to the man, nodding a little to the Starling Pokemon's frantic behavior in the fiery vortex. "I think she's had enough."

"Oh, really?" the man called back, irritation lacing his tone. "Thanks for the tip, but I'll pass, little one. Staravia, get yourself out of there!" The Staravia let out a frightened cry, very much afraid of the fire that surrounded her. "C'mon, girl, don't be afraid! You can win this thing still!"

"Solaris," Jade said blandly, inclining her head towards the bird. "Ember." The Vulpix let loose a second burst of flames, leaving the bird fluttering around wildly in her makeshift cage while trying to avoid the attack. But it was difficult, and she found herself getting hurt by the Fire-type attack. "I don't know how many turns this may last, you know. And I don't think your Pokemon has any long-range moves, so she can't really attack from there until she's released. We, however, can attack all we want." The man gritted his teeth and looked at his Staravia, who still fluttered about, trying to avoid the flames.

"Fine," he muttered, recalling the Starling Pokemon. "You win. You need a ride just across the route, right?" Jade nodded, patting Solaris on the head as she walked by. "Good. Don't think I can stomach you for much longer."

"Thanks!" the girl chirped, collecting her little fox in her arms as she clambered onto the boat. "It should only take a few minutes, really. And Jubilife is right outside the route?"

"You see the buildings, don't you?" grumbled the man as he began to start up his boat, beginning their brief journey over the waters of Route 218.

Ryka held her Pikachu close as she wandered through the cold night air of Cerulean City. After her and Crenu's battle, she had said her goodbyes to her friends, as well as apologies for leaving early. Not only did her little Pikachu need healing at the Pokemon Center, but it was getting incredibly late as well. With nothing left to do at the Contest Hall, save for watching her friends battle, she made her way towards the Pokemon Center, happily humming in the quiet streets.

And the familiar red roof came into sight. Ryka looked down at Blitz, who had actually fallen asleep in her arms. With a smile she entered the building, immediately walking up to the main counter, where a Nurse Joy sat, watching the TV on the wall. The Nurse joyfully took all of Ryka's Pokemon and headed behind the counter to treat them, leaving Ryka alone in the empty lobby. It seemed that it was either too late, or everyone was at the Pokemon Contest, for there was no one at all in the lobby! Giving a shrug, she took a seat on a sofa nearby the TV, closing her eyes in wait for her Pokemon.

The TV was currently playing the news, which as always, there was a lot of. Ryka hardly listened to it, letting the lull of its words mix in the with thoughts of the contest. But she could make out everything they were saying, to her own dismay.

"in other news, a missing persons alert has been called."

Ryka's happy face turned sour. That wasn't news you heard often, how awful! She hoped they'd be found...

"The missing person, 17-year-old Jaeshan Devereaux, disappeared off of his parents boat..."

Ryka's eyes flew open. Her mind began racing, all of her thoughts colliding in horror. Maybe it could be another Jaeshan...not her Jaeshan...Her eyes stayed glued to the TV screen as Jae's picture showed up, a sight that made her eyes misty and her stomach lurch. Her hands flew up to cover her mouth in shock as she tried to stop any tears from forming. Not Jae...he can't be...he can't be...! With a sob, her hand reached into her bag and pulled out her Pokegear, absentmindedly dialing his number, searching for him. But it just kept ringing, and ringing, and she eventually hung up. He wasn't going to answer, and she knew it...but she clung to her hope. She wasn't able to stop the tears, however, and let them flow down her cheeks uncontrollably. Nothing reached her ears after seeing his face on the screen - the TV, Nurse Joy, nothing. All she could hear now were the memories rushing through her mind, memories she'd never get back, and the rush of sadness and lonliness that followed...
