Though they didn't really need it, Miharu carefully set her PokeBalls into a tray so that her team could be healed, and in the meantime she got herself a bottle of iced tea from the vending machine. Sipping on it slowly, the green-haired girl weighed her options as she wandered around the lobby, stopping to study posters and various other things that were tacked to the wall. She stopped in front of a poster for the Johto League, noting the eight colourful badges that decorated it. They were all circled around the logo, and Miharu smiled, happy to know that she had over half of them already. Olivine City and Jasmine next, the small girl thought, returning to the front desk to reclaim her Pokemon from the nurse. As she attached them to her belt, something occurred to her and soon she'd walked over to the PC located nearby, and typed in her information.

It's been a while since Petunia's had a turn, she thought, deciding it best to send Tingle in her place. The Metang was easily her strongest Pokemon, and though it was often quite erratic in its behavior, Miharu knew she relied on it a lot. Time to show my other Pokemon that they are just as important to me, she thought, watching the sphere disappear into the transfer system, only to be replaced with a camouflage-decorated sphere a moment later. Miharu picked up the Pinsir's Park Ball, and logged off the computer before she turned and headed back outside, this time the National Park her destination.

Time passed and the final match was over, Riza came out the winner as Shiro had expected, although in all honesty he hadn't really watched the match as he was busy going over his own match in his head. He stared at his hand which Ken had stitched up for him, several of the smaller stitches had popped open earlier when he clenched his fist tightly from anxiety, the bleeding had finally stopped on it's own sometime during the appeals round so it was no longer a concern. He was lucky he didn't bleed to the point where it leaked from his glove earlier, or he surely would have lost to many points in the appeals round to even make it to the battle against Ryka. For now it seemed he was healing a bit, a step up from earlier, though that stitched wounds would stop bleeding so quickly on their own was another problem altogether. But for now Crenu was going to focus only on the contest at hand. He checked his glove which had been turned inside out and was in the sink, the blood had dried so he turned it back to it's proper side and slipped it on his hand, ignoring the sensation of pain it sent through his tender hand flesh.

"So that's where you've been young Shiro, though I'm not all that shocked to see you hiding out in the restroom when you could be at your dress table getting ready." Chimed in a light hearted voice as Ken opened the restroom door to find Crenu standing inf front of one of the sinks. "I came to congratulate you, you played very smartly. Although I have to tell you I'm not really sure you have full control of your Poliwhirl, he seemed a little to eager to finish off that poor Pikachu. I would call you cruel for not running out the clock, but when you get to the higher levels of contests an opportunity such as that isn't something most people would pass up either. You may not be the most popular candidate among the fans with such brutal tactics, but I don't think that'll be a problem with you will it." though Ken was smiling, his tone was less than friendly on that last part.

"...Tch, you know me that well do you? But you're right." Crenu said as he stared into the mirror, glaring at himself and frowning as his reflection seemed to stare deep into his own soul and deeply disapproved. "You can be hailed as a hero or hated as a tyrant, but the only thing that can never be put to question is your victory. Go back to the stands and sign more autographs, you're just getting in my way by hanging around. I don't want you here, don't you understand that yet? My strength will be recognized by any means necessary, I don't care if you don't approve."

"Maybe not..." Ken looked at Crenu with a hard face, and just shook his head. What happened to his old friend? This was more than just drive and determination, more than a young man exploring the different paths of life. This was an obsession, and a very dangerous one. All that stuff Crenu had been spouting up till now, could it be that he honestly believed every word of it? Ken was getting worried, but he didn't think Crenu even saw him as his friend at all anymore. "But what about Riza? Do you care what she thinks of you?" Ken turned about and walked out of the restroom, heading back to the stands with a pain in his heart.

Crenu's eyes widened at Ken's words, clenching his jaw as he glared at the mirror, teeth showing as he gripped the sides of the sink. What the hell did Ken know anyway? In his perfect little life with his perfect little family and his perfect tour around the world. Winning contests and becoming famous, even having a Grand Festival or two under his belt. What did he know of Crenu's resolve? Who was he to judge him!? Whatever, Ken was just a burden and Crenu was better off without him. He didn't need Ken, he didn't need anyone! Everyone was just getting in his way! They were all doing it on purpose, they were all keeping him down! It was a conspiracy, they didn't want him to grow powerful, he couldn't trust anyone! Crenu couldn't take it anymore and headbutted the mirror causing it to crack slightly, a small drop of blood running down Crenu's face from his forehead. He was panting heavily, having realized he was losing it just before he smashed his head into the glass he managed to pull back a bit and avoid totally destroying it and himself, to the cut on his forehead was small. He wiped the blood away, the small cut turning red with a tiny bit of blood and staying that way as he wiped it one more time and kicked the door of the restroom open. He took several deep breaths to calm himself down and straightened out his clothes, making his way around the room until he came to Riza who was reading a letter of sorts. Didn't need anyone...no one could be trusted. Except her...she was the only good thing he had right now, right? They were going to go up against each other soon, and he would have to defeat her to go on. Was she doing this on purpose? Was she against him too? No, no it couldn't be true. There was no conspiracy against him, where had that come from? Crenu took one final deep breath and approached her, having calmed down and regained his composure he carried himself as though nothing had happened. "...You look very nice, still." He said finally, a small twitch in the corner of his eye as a tiny voice in the back of his head whispered 'She can't be trusted' over and over again.

Mai cringed ever so slightly at the sight of the Buizel's rough landing on the ground. Confusion, aptly named as it was, did have the drawback of occasionally causing its target to become confused, and even an experienced trainer like Mai knew just how dangerous and hated that particular status ailment was. Serenity stood poised, ready to dodge the oncoming Sonic Boom that had been ordered, but as it would turn out, she didn't have to do a thing as little Miles turned his sights on his partner and began to launch attack after attack at the poor Buneary. "My, my, this isn't going too well for young Katie, is it?" Mai mused aloud, the question directed at her Espeon. Serenity gave a single nod, watching the two Pokemon intently and secretly hoping the Buneary would be able to dodge her partner's assaults.

It was just as startling for Cynthia and the few people watching curiously when Jason suddenly snapped awake, apparently unphased by the ordeal. Cynthia quickly realized that this probably happened to him a lot, and she couldn't help but chuckle a bit as he wiped the ice cream from his face. Ah, I've heard of this condition, she thought, nodding to herself. Narcolepsy. It's far more fascinating to witness first-hand rather than read about.

As they started walking again, Jason reminded her of the promise she'd made on the ship, and she nodded, remembering how suddenly the boy had jumped off the ship. In all honesty, she was a little surprised he was okay, but it was obvious that this kid was, well, special, to say the least. "Yes, I remember," she said. "And I have every intentions of fulfilling your request, though first there are two things I require. One, an area away from here, as I'd rather not attract too much attention to myself at this point, and two, you must tell me what kind of Pokemon you'd like to see first."

Karrigan had crouched down next to the sleeping Abra, hoping to shield the poor little thing from any wayward attacks that might be coming their way. She kept a close eye on her two Pokemon, Ikouma especially, considering that the Sneasel was weak against the Beedrill's Twineedle attacks. As if reading the human's mind, several of the insects all chose to attack the poor Sneasel in tandem. One after the other, Ikouma dodged, relieved to see that the ones he got past were quickly smacked down by Aegeus. The Onix let out another earth-shattering Screech, knocking even more of the attacking creatures out of the air and giving the redheaded girl's Pokemon a chance to regain their composure. "O-okay guys, we can do this," she said, glancing from the Abra to her two Pokemon. "We just have to play this smart."

Ikouma nodded, as playing smart was something he excelled at. Aegeus, on the other hand, simply prepped himself for another Screech, letting it go the moment the Beedrill he'd just knocked out of the sky got up again. Ikouma quickly went back on the attack as well, lashing out with his sharp claws and dealing a serious amount of damage. Considering the circumstances, the group was doing rather well, but as all good things, this too had to come to an end, and just like that, the tables turned. One of the Beedrill ducked around Ikouma's deft strikes and managed to land a solid jab into the Aegeus' head. At first it didn't seem to do much, but after a few seconds, the Onix began to feel sickly and weak as the poison from the Beedrill's stingers took effect. Ikouma hadn't been poisoned yet, but at this rate, it was just a matter of time.

Jake continued to stare down at his drawing on the ground, still trying to remember the details of his dream. There had been a blue-haired girl, but that was all he could remember about her. He also recalled a big, purple butterfly or moth looking thing, and that it had been called Veno-something. After a few more moments he also recalled a big, spiky creature, but it was fuzzy at best. The little orange chick Pokemon had been the strongest part of his memory, and he continued to stare down at it, wishing he could recall more.

It was then that Grotle bumped his head against Jake's leg, also looking down at the scratches on the ground. "Grotle?" he asked, inclining his head towards the drawing.

"I, uh, I dunno," Jake admitted, shrugging. "I wish I knew what this was, but I really don't. It's..." he trailed off, giving an exaggerated sigh. For a moment, he contemplated rubbing out the drawing with the heel of his sandal, but he changed his mind, and instead took the beat-up old PokeNav that Professor Rowan had given him, and took a few photos of it. They weren't very good quality, but it was good enough to see the drawing. "Okay," he said, reaching down and patting Grotle on the head. "It's getting late, so we should probably turn in for the night. Tomorrow, we'll head back to Sandgem, and see if Professor Rowan knows what this, uh, Pokemon, I guess, is."

"Eh? What kind of pokemon huh? Hmmm, that's a good question. I'm new to Sinnoh so I really don't know what kinda pokemon are here. Let's see...I think I'd like to see something real strong, almost fierce. You know, the kind of pokemon that's mere presence is intimidating and impressive at the same time." Jason said with great excitement. He really didn't know what he was saying here, he just kinda blurted out what was buzzing around in his head. A super cool champion like Cynthia was sure to have something like that though, something terrifying and awesome at the same time. The type of pokemon who's mighty roar splits the air and sends a shiver up your spine. The likes of a Gyarados or a Salamance, nice. Thinking back a moment Jason realized he forgot to sketch the pokemon he encountered, that brown pink horned pokemon that attacked him and the orange thing with the flotation looking thing on it's body. What were they again? Oh right, Float-something and Something-don. Whipping out his notebook Jason turned to a clean page and started to scratch away with his pencil, drawing the clashing pokemon from memory forgetting that they were walking though a fairly crowded area. As he drew the scene he was able to instinctively avoid walking into people, as this was something he did a lot, finding less and less people as the people thinned out towards the edge of the city. "Hmm, I forget what these things are called. The horned one attacked me when I was coming here but I got saved by the weasel looking thing." He said plainly to Cynthia as he scribbled away, the pokemon on the sheet of paper starting to come come to life as they took shape. He could almost hear their cries now.

Rout 6 was rather short and offered no trouble, Carlos was in high spirits as was his music, then again when wasn't it?

"Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia.
Una poca de gracia pa mi pa ti
Y arriba y arriba
Ay arriba y arriba
Por ti sere, por ti sere, por ti sere"

There was nothing like a good song on a sunny day, he felt amazing! So energized, so ready to do anything! The moment the sea air in Vermillion hit his nose he took a deep breath and laughed deeply, it was indeed a good day. "Que hacemos ahora? Hmm let's see let's see." As Carlos made his way to the docks he could see a big sign that had the schedules on it, it was a rather old looking sign which was understandable, but next to it was an addition, a new sign that read "Sinnoh bound Boat Schedule." This must have just started, understandable considering the border situation until recently, and understandably due to the distance it seemed onto one boat left Vermillion and it wasn't until noon. "Ah que lastima. What to do what to do?" Carlos looked at his watch, it was only 8:00 in the morning, perhaps he shouldn't have gotten up to early? Oh well, in a port city like this there had to be something to do right? Carlos wandered about not entirely sure what he was looking for. He hadn't been to Kanto in about a year or so and totally forgot everything about it. There were stalls and stores, and Carlos couldn't help but pick up a little sea food snack, fish on a stick was pretty popular here. As he ate his snack and walked the streets, his attention was grabbed by a big sign with lighting bolts around it, this had to be the gym Vermillion was known for. "Ah yes yes a pokemon gym how nice. Bueno pues, why not pop in for a look?" He had the time to kill and was always looking for something fun, so Carlos decided to check out the gym. Holding onto his sombrero as his poncho and guitar flailed around behind him he bolted for the gym, swinging the door open rather forcefully as he slid in, lifting his sombrero a bit as he looked around. "Heh heh heh, hola, anyone home?"

It wasn't until Karrigan saw that Aegeus' attacks were getting slower and beginning to miss their targets that she realized the Onix had been poisoned. This is bad, the redhead thought desperately, her heart slamming itself against her rib cage in fear. This is very, very bad. A poisoned Pokemon wouldn't last very long in battle, as its health suffered every round, and with the many Beedrill chipping away at him, the Onix was almost certainly going to be knocked out shortly. And once they're through my Pokemon, then it's my turn, Karrigan thought, her stomach tying itself up in knots.

A pair of rather rude (at least in Ikouma's opinion, they were) pair of Beedrill decided to work together to bring down the annoying little Sneasel, and a pair of well-placed Twineedle attacks were more than enough to have the Dark and Ice-type spending the next little while staring at the back of his eyelids. A terrified Karrigan had a terrible time getting him safely back into his Pokeball, as a lucky Beedrill managed to drive its stinger into her hand. Karrigan was probably the luckier of the two as she managed to avoid becoming poisoned herself, though the large near-hole in her left palm was more than enough to make one question her 'luck'. With Ikouma down, and Aegeus poisoned, any hope that Karrigan had retained up until now had pretty much vanished.

Unbeknownst to the redheaded girl, however, the Abra beside her had awoken, Karrigan's terrified thoughts having ripped through his mind like razor blades. The small Pokemon tilted its head to the side, already very much aware of the severity of their situation. He had a plan, oh yes, but now wasn't the time to initiate it...

Bibarel and Grotle had no objections to their master's plan of action, Bibarel yawning widely as Jake returned the pair to their respective Pokeballs. The tall, blonde and genuinely clueless boy then wandered around the area for a while, realizing only then that he hadn't the faintest idea of where he could sleep. Once the evening chill had settled in and Jake realized he couldn't spend the night outside, and he quickly found his way back into the relatively empty Pokemon Center. Now what? the boy thought, wandering around the small front room before he sat down on a chair, still unsure of what to do with himself for the night.

Jake had been sitting there for quite some time, and had very nearly fallen asleep on his uncomfortable little chair before the nurse finally took notice of him. She'd just finished filing the day's paperwork and was waiting for the night nurse to come in for shift change when she saw him sitting there. He was easy to recognize by now, as he'd been in and out a few times with his Pokemon today, and he'd also been hanging around with the redheaded girl before she disappeared somewhere. Clearing her throat, the pink-haired nurse walked over to the sleepy boy, and tapped his shoulder. "Excuse me, Jake, wasn't it?" she asked, having to give him a little shape as he was more asleep than she'd thought. "Would you like a room for the night?"

Poor Jake was so out of it that he didn't even startle awake. Instead, he just looked up at the nurse through bleary eyes, blinking. "A room?" he repeated, a little confused.

"Yes, a room," the nurse repeated. "We're not a very big Pokemon Center, but we do have two rooms in the back, with lots of beds in them. You're the only person here this evening, so you shouldn't have trouble finding somewhere more suitable to sleep."

It took a few moments for her words to sink in, and when they did, Jake smiled, and nodded. "All right, I'll do that, then.... thanks," he murmured, staggering to his feet and slowly making his way towards the rooms that the nurse had indicated. The first door he opened happened to be nothing he was looking for, and was in fact, a broom closet, though after that mishap he soon found the proper door and stepped inside. The room wasn't very big at all, but there were three bunk beds crammed inside, one against each wall, with a small table in either free corner. Somehow, this setup seemed vaguely familiar to him as he kicked off his shoes and stripped down to his boxer shorts, leaving all his clothes and things in a messy pile on the floor. He hardly had the energy to turn back the top blanket before he flopped down on the bed, virtually asleep before he even touched down on the soft mattress.

Cynthia chuckled as she listened to Jason decide on the Pokemon he wanted to see. Going solely on that description, she knew just what Pokemon to show the boy. My old friend, it's certainly been a long time since we first journeyed through here, hasn't it? she thought fondly, laying a hand on the sphere that contained the Pokemon she had in mind. "I know just the one," she nodded, unable to suppress her smile. "Let's head this way," she added, gesturing north, which would take them up to the south side of Route 204. She knew from experience that it was often quieter and less populated than the east exit from Jubilife City, and as stated earlier, she'd rather not attract too much attention to herself.

As they walked, the boy had taken out a sketchbook and was busily drawing away as they walked, and even Cynthia was impressed by his ability to walk, draw, and avoid people all at the same time. She had to admit that he was a fine young artist, for the sketches he drew were so lifelike, she thought they might spring up from the page and attack them. "Oh, that's a Floatzel, and a Gastrodon. West Sea," she said, smiling at the sight of the pink slug creature. She had one of her own, though it wasn't with her at the moment. It had been one of the first Pokemon she'd met on her journey and she made a mental note to visit with it again sometime soon.

It may have been quite early in the day, but the Vermilion Gym was already quite busy, as Lt. Surge and his underlings were undergoing their morning training regimen. Due to recent activities, Surge had taken on several new recruits and he and the higher-ranking officers were now whipping them into shape. Trainers, young and older, could be seen in rows, sporting very basic training outfits. Alongside them, many of their Electric-type Pokemon were out of their Pokeballs, doing all of the same training exercises their masters were. Surge himself was wandering along the rows of recruits, scrutinizing their progress. He was easy to spot, as he towered at least a head higher than anyone else. Out of the corner of his watchful eye, he spotted the front door open, and the most oddly dressed character he'd seen in some time slip in. The man wore a large hat and a strange overcoat thing, and he had a guitar strapped to his back. If Surge didn't know any better, he could have sworn that a skinny Ludicolo had just wandered into his gym.

No Ludicolo he knew of spoke the human language, however, and Surge gave a wave, tromping towards the strange visitor in his heavy combat boots. "Oi!" he called back. "We're home, all right. What's yer business in my gym?"

The Magma grunt growled, clearly unhappy with the unfavorable situation he now found himself in. “Isn’t so nice, is it?” Mitsu shouted. She looked at her Pokemon, they both looked a little beat up but still okay for the most part. They were tough and they were fighters. Proud was an understatement to how she felt about her companions. She shook her head. Focus! She needed to keep her mind on the task at hand. “Well, let’s finish this! Fire Fang, Sapphire!”

“Razor Leaf!” he shouted, his voiced panicked. Even he could tell when it was at a loss but that wasn’t going to stop him from issuing one last suicide attempt at a victory, as poor as it was.

Mitsu bit her lip before issuing a Psychic attack to her Gengar. The attack wouldn’t really have done too much damage to either Pokemon, but it was good to prevent as much damage as she could. Who knew how many more grunts they would have to fight or how much stronger they would be as they got closer to wherever they were going in this evil organization’s base? She has to try and keep her Pokemon as healthy as she could.

Ebony waves his purple hands once more, freezing the leaves in their place before crumbling them into a fine dust with his eerie dark powers. This left the Shiftry completely wide open to Sapphire’s vicious attack. And he wasted no time to sink his fangs into the opponent who had caused his trainer pain. The heat of the fire was more than enough to make the Pokemon faint and the blue Houndoom kindly tossed its burnt body next to its already fainted ally.

The Magma grunt, stunned at his lost, recalled his Pokemon and ran off. Mitsu smiled at her Pokemon briedly before turning to her friends, “Are you guys okay?”

Jake slept fitfully that night, full of intermittent nightmares and terrors. Flashes of semi-familiar faces haunted and taunted him, and after every nightmare he'd awake with a start, shaking violently and covered in a cold sweat. He was quite grateful that he was the only one spending the night there that night, as he was sure he would have kept everyone else awake if that had not been the case. Some time in the middle of the night he'd even thrown himself out of bed, having dreamed that he was being pulled under a dark, frigid water, unable to even cry out...

When the morning finally came, Jake was already awake for the most part, and though his body felt mostly refreshed, mentally, he was exhausted. He tried to focus on the good things that had happened to him, which was relatively easy to do considering he couldn't quite remember anything other than yesterday. It was easy to piece together that he'd wound up in the ocean somehow, but that was a given, seeing as how he'd washed up on the shore of Sandgem's beach. I must have fallen overboard somewhere, the blonde thought as he dragged himself to the bathroom, where he had a quick shower, which was promptly followed up by another forty-five minute struggle in order to attempt to tame his highly incorrigible hair. How did I deal with this before? he thought, almost amused as he finally tossed the comb to the side in defeat. "Stupid hair."

Once he was dressed again, Jake gathered his few possessions, stopping to study the small leather bag that Roark had given him yesterday. The Coal badge was still pinned to the side of it, and finally he opened it, taking out the brownish-coloured disc and studying it. 'TM 76' was etched on one side, with the words 'Stealth Rock' etched in small caps on the other. Despite his long-term memory being shot to hell, his memories of yesterday were still quite fresh in his mind, at least up until the part where he was first introduced to Turtwig. He could still easily recall Professor Rowan's bewildered and almost irritated expressions, though there had always been a hint of kindness in his eyes. He remembered taking the package to that bush baby-eyed girl Beth across town and Turtwig's first battle against Peaches the easily-overexcited Pachirisu. He remembered meeting up with flaky yet sweet Robin in Jubilife, and their mini adventure that had brought them to Oreburgh. If it hadn't been for Robin, he never would have thought to challenge Roark and win that badge, nor would he have any level of the confidence he had now, albeit how little it still seemed.

Sighing once more, Jake returned the items to his beat-up backpack and threw it over his shoulder before he headed out of the room to find some sort of breakfast for he and his two Pokemon. After all, they had quite a bit of a walk ahead of them if they planned to get back to Sandgem in a decent amount of time.

"Sure thing champ, you lead the way." Jason said with a grin, following Cynthia's directions as she lead them to a more secluded area. Jason didn't know what it was like being famous, but he could appreciate her desire to avoid drawing a crowd. It must be really hard not being able to leave your house without people making a big deal about it. Still kinda cool though. "I'd have been a total goner if Floatzel hasn't shown up when it did. Zeus and me were really surprised when we found it was a ground type too. Man that was close. Lotta fun though, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna enjoy this region. Heh heh, we'll get a lot stronger here so we won't need to be rescues, I don't think I can count on a friendly Floatzel popping up every time I get in danger..." Jason suddenly remembered a time when he was younger, and snuck off into a cave for exploring. The Rhydon living inside didn't take to kindly to his intrusion and had it not been for his father and his Blastoise, things would have turned out poorly. "Heh heh heh, good times. I'mma find some new friends here too, any new pokemon to add to my data will be great. Oh that reminds me, so what pokemon are you gonna show me? Is it a surprise? Is it a secret? Is it super duper rare?" He fired off one after the other, lo longer ableto wait as he had a blank page ready, pressing the pencil against it so hard that he broke the tip. "aww...Oh wait I have a sharpener!"

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Oh my you're an impressive man. Que tal hombre?" Carlos said with a grin as he watched a man who was not only tall, but build solid like a rock. "Up bright and early running drills I see. Very diligent of you and your, um, soldiers? Ah but I digress hombre I digress, pues como lo digo? I'm waiting around for my boat to come in at noon. With a few hours to kill, how could I not stop in and check out the Vermillion Gym?" Carlos said with a grin as he lifted his sombrero to get a better look at Surge, and so he could do the same. "You know I was just gonna pop in for a look, but hombre como puedo quedarme con eso? No'mbre 'ta loco. I'm not one for gym challenges really, but seeing such a tightly run ship I'm intrigued. Would you be interested in an exhibition match? Just a friendly competition between trainers, not so much between a gym leader and a challenger. I'm just trying to spend some time before the boat after all.

“There’s SOOOOO many people! And the buildings are a billion stories hiiiigh!” Mia exclaimed, rooted at the entrance of Jubilife City. For a small town girl, the busy and bustling Jubilife would have almost seemed overwhelming and maybe even frightening, but not to Mia. No, this ridiculous girl took it all in stride and immediately ran headlong into the crowded streets. There were signs everywhere advertising the newest soda or the fastest Pokeball. It was vibrant and busy and a sent a heavy dose of adrenaline pulsing through her veins.

“What should I do first?!” Mia practically screamed, attracting a few odd looks to her. “There HAS to be a gym in a city this big! I wonder where it is!” Again she took off running around the city, taking random turns here and there until she was as good as lost.

“I don’t see one anywhereeeee,” Mia whined, “then again… I don’t remember Dad ever saying there was a gym here…”

However, where she did end up was in front of a large building with four red flags flying proudly overhead. The sign outside read:

The Poketch Company
Pokemon Watches for the World!

“Sounds pretty interesting and the door’s open!” Mia cheered, walking inside the building. She was quickly assaulted with a middle aged man who appeared to be on his way out.

“I bet you’re here for a Poktech! I’m right aren’t I? Well! You’re lucky you caught me just before I was about to leave!” He laughed heartily, “But I can’t just give you one for free! I’m actually almost out and I need to go get more parts but trainers like you have been showing up all day! So I’ll make the same deal that I made with them! You gotta find three clowns hidden around the city and get tickets from them! The first trainer to get back to me with three tickets gets my last Poketch!” He leaned in closely as if to tell the girl a secret, “And between you and me, it’s a rare orange edition! Oh hohoho!”

“Orangeeee!? I have to have it! I’ll definitely be first sir!” Mia exclaimed, completely determined. She turned on her heel, grinding the rubber soles of her rain boots into the floor before charging out the door and into the city once more before the man could even say another word.

“Sweet! Then we should get going!” The huge grin on Scarlet’s face easily revealed the fact that he was utterly proud of himself, but he noted in a few moments that his idea wasn’t so much an idea as a requirement, so he calmed down pretty fast. He smiled at the Quilava at his side, then started toward Route 29. And surprisingly enough it didn’t look like it would be half as much fun as the way toward New Bark.

“… Man, it’s a lot more exciting when you can jump off ledges.” The path didn’t really seem too tedious, but man, all that tall grass was itchy, and Scarlet would be lying if he said that those rattata he sometimes accidentally stepped on in that grass didn’t get all irritating and rage-filled. It almost made him tired just thinking about it.

“So, Jasper. Why'd you start your journey? Do you have a goal? Like, the pokemon league, or filling your pokedex?”

Jett smiled slightly as his friend grinned and eagerly set off to get to Cherrygrove. Because, really, it was the only way they could get anywhere else, since none of them had Surf. At that thought, he was reminded of the TM and the HM in his pack, waiting to be used.

Well, Athena would benefit from having Aerial Ace, since it apparently didn't miss and it seemed quite useful when Falkner used it against him. Her Flying-type attacks weren't all that great, he noted as he scanned through Noctowl's Pokedex info. She seemed to learn even more Psychic-type moves than she did Flying-type, so Aerial Ace was a wise-enough choice for her movepool.

And Aerosmith could learn Flash, which would be... interesting. He thought of the battle potential of that move, which served great with Beautifly's status-inducing moves, but Aerosmith wasn't exactly the norm for that sorta thing. He seemed like a Fighting-type, all brawn and no brain, just overwhelming the opponent. They would need to work on that.

At the sound of Scarlet's voice, Jett looked up and looked to Jasper with curious eyes. The boy was an enigma, and it always fascinated Jett to find out everyone's goal. Somehow, they all seemed different. What people wanted to do, why they wanted to do it, how far they would go to achieve these goals... it was always interesting to see.

As they left the busy Jubilife City slightly behind them, Cynthia felt herself easing up a bit, and she glanced to Jason, unable to keep herself from smiling. This cheerful young man had quite the air to him. "I've traveled the world," she said finally, able to get a few words in. "But no matter where I go, I'm always very happy to return home to Sinnoh. This region is breathtaking no matter where you go - from the summit of Mount Coronet to the Valley Windworks, from frozen Snowpoint City to colourful Floaroma Town. Sinnoh-native Pokemon are quite something, as well. I'm sure you'll meet many amazing new partners during your travels here," she added, her hand already enclosed around a Pokeball.

They'd reached a good-sized field, with knee-high grass and wildflowers swaying gently in the light breeze. Plenty of room, she thought, taking in the sights for a moment before looking to Jason, who'd apparently broken his pencil tip in his excitement as he'd continued to shoot off questions about the Pokemon Cynthia had planned to show him. "This place will do," she said, not answering a single one of the boy's questions as she turned and sent the Pokeball spiraling towards the grass. "Garchomp, standby," she called.

In a magnificent burst of light, the Mach Pokemon appeared, loosing a tremendous earth-shaking roar and touching down heavily on the round. Seeing there was no opponent for her to shred, she turned around and faced Cynthia, noting the other human by her side. "Garchomp," Cynthia said fondly. "How do you feel about being a model for our new friend, here?" Taking a moment or so to contemplate the idea, the Dragon and Ground-type eventually gave one quick nod before looking to Jason.

Now that he had a good look at him, it was easy for Lt Surge to see that this younger man was indeed not a Ludicolo. He held up a large hand and the trainers and Pokemon all stopped, standing at ease as their leader greeted their visitor. "Yep, yep," he said, looking mightily proud. "I run a tight ship here in Vermilion," he said, though unfortunately his Spanish was far too rusty for him to really understand much else the visitor said. He wasn't used to having folks come in and ask for exhibition matches, as most were challengers seeking his prized Thunder Badge. "The boat?" he repeated, scratching his chin. "Ah, that's the one headed for Sinnoh, eh? But of course, if it's a match yeh want, It's a match you'll get. Three on three, no time limit, no items, no switching, y'hear?"

He turned and gestured to the group of trainers and they each saluted before exiting the arena, save for a gangly, stringy-haired youth that took his sweet time in leaving. The only other person that remained behind aside from the gym leader himself was an older gentleman in a tweed suit and panama hat. A sleepy Pikachu was curled up on his shoulder, only half-awake as he studied the strange sombrero-wearing man that had paid them a visit. Surge said nothing to the man, simply gave a nod, and also without speaking, the gentleman returned that nod and moved over to the referee's box. Exhibition match or not, he still had a job to do.

Surge, meanwhile, had taken up his position on one end of the battlefield, and he was still eying Carlos with interest before he spoke again. "So!" he shouted, his voice rattling off the brass-polished walls of the gym. "You know who I am, but I ain't got the foggiest clue as to who you are."

Jasper had been lost in his own little world of thought as the newly-formed trio of trainers began their trek towards the next city. He still didn't really have a plan, nor was he even really thinking about his 'journey', so naturally Scarlet's question caught him off-guard. "Uh, well..." he mumbled, feeling a little bit idiotic for not having an immediate answer. "When I was younger, I couldn't wait to become a trainer," he said finally, eying the Quilava plodding along happily at the redhead's side. "Things never went the way I wanted them to, so I gave up on that dream. But now, who knows. I'm not overly interested in badges, contests, the League, even the PokeDex. At this point, I'm happy just settling for getting from point A to point B in once piece." He stretched his shoulders a bit, placing his hands behind his head as he walked. "And if I can meet some cool Pokemon along the way, even better."

He had to admit that it felt a little weird talking to Jett and Scarlet like this, but at the same time, it was equally as weird when he realized that the two of them were the first potential friends he'd ever really met, not counting Ditto, of course. They were good, enthusiastic kids, and Jasper idly hoped that some of their excess enthusiasm would rub off on him. He closed his eyes and smirked a bit, though he stumbled a bit when the fleeting image of a very familiar girl, with flowing brown hair, passed through his mind, a small, orange blur at her side. Thinking it to be nothing more than his imagination, Jasper dismissed it and continued on. "What about you two?" he asked, figuring it was pretty safe to throw the question back at them. "Any long-term goals in mind?"

Though she didn't know it at the time, Hayley's goals were in stark contrast to her brother's, and instead of remaining calm and calling for Cynder to be careful as the Ekans attacked once more, she flailed her arms a bit, finding the ever-familiar feeling of frustration welling up inside her again. "Do something!" she called finally, wishing very much that she hadn't agreed to this battle.

Cynder, despite being a normally hot-headed fire type, had a relatively cool head at this point in time, and though he stood amid a haze of smoke, he had a good idea of both his and the Ekans' positions. He didn't know of the oncoming Poison Sting, however, and he let out a surprised cry as a spray of sharp, tiny needles pelted his body. He knew that his poor trainer wasn't doing very well, as she always had a tendency to fall apart during battles, and he knew that it would be up to him to try and eke out a win for them. Perhaps then, Hayley's confidence could receive a well-deserved boost.

The Charmander stepped in the direction the Ekans' attack had come from, rearing back and unleashing several small fireballs into the smoke. A few seconds later, a pained cry let him know that his Ember attack had hit home and he grinned, knowing that he could still turn this around for them.

Her familiarity with Goldenrod City, and the fact that she owned a well-working bicycle made Miharu's trip to the National Park a quick one, and as she passed through the gatehouse she couldn't help but stop and grin at the plaque on the wall. Her name, Miharu Winters, would forever be displayed here among the other previous winners of the Bug Catching Contest, though she noticed she was still the most recent trainer to win by catching a Pinsir. She continued on through into the park itself, feeling calm and relaxed as the familiar atmosphere surrounded her. Kids were playing here and there, some with Pokemon. Some people were out walking, and others had brought blankets that they'd spread on the grass for a picnic or a quiet day's reading. Miharu headed towards the fountain where she dismounted her bike, stopping to gaze down at all the coins that people had tossed in over time. She never really saw the point of making wishes like that, as if one wanted their dreams to come true, they'd have to work for them. Wishes were for lazy people.

The small girl held up the Park Ball that contained her Pinsir in hand, and after a few moments or so of quiet thought, released the large beetle Pokemon. Petunia stretched and looked around, quickly realizing that she was in a familiar place. It was nice to see her little trainer again, despite the nice time she was having at that other place. It was always so nice and warm and she spent a lot of time burrowed deep in the sand, enjoying the arid climate, but it was nice to be back here, as well. Petunia then spied a patch of flowers and plopped down in front of them, content to watch them swaying in the breeze.
