Ulrich nodded his agreement. "For the most part, they're a bunch of stubborn, self-righteous pricks," he stated flatly. "Pardon my language. Elnara's brothers may sound awful to you - if she's told you about them - but to be honest, that's how most of the population is. They claim that the separation of the races was all the fault of the Westlanders - but in truth, they're equally to blame. Anyone who's different from them is generally outcast - if they're different in looks or magic that is. But if they're like Elnara ..."

He trailed off and shook his head in disgust.

"But," he went on, holding up one finger, "there are some people who - though I haven't met them - I'm told they're better. Gion, for example - well, I have met him. He lived here quite a bit after Elnara's other brothers made her leave. He's a great guy, he'll accept anyone and anything. Then there's Elnara's grandparents, Serenity's parents. They're the same. But as for people who aren't related to Elnara, there's only one person I've heard of who wouldn't reject her outright ... her childhood best friend, Nadya, who runs the plantation in Elnara's absence. Besides her, and possibly her parents, everyone else is ..."

He made a rude noise and crossed his arms.

Well that certainly didn't sound like a good place to visit, he wondered if it would be alright.

"You certainly have not had a good time with them," Lore commented softly after a moment of thought.

Ulrich paused to think about that comment for a moment, then sighed.

"I'm stereotyping," he stated flatly. "I shouldn't. Ulani's family was originally from there ... which I'm sure you knew already. She's basically in the same position as Elnara now. Was once in line for the throne but not anymore ... though, Ulani gave up her position voluntarily."

He tapped his chin thoughtfully. "You know, if there wasn't all the trouble with Elnara and Serenity being shapeshifters, I probably wouldn't have a bad word to say about any of them. Really, they're no different than anyone else, but ... it's just the association I have for them, really."

"But it's hard to see those good qualities when they are doing something we ourselves consider horrendous," Lore put it simply.

He would have a feeling most of Gaia would be like that, this was a culture so different from home that he had to admit. There were even things he took for granted he wasn't aware of at times.

"Exactly," Ulrich agreed. "From what I hear, though, it seems that some of them at least - Elnara's brothers, I mean, some of them - have changed their minds about her. I haven't heard from Gion lately, but ..."

He shrugged enigmatically.

"That would be good to hear.... evenually she is going to visit, it wouldn't be good if they were.... going to be difficult."

That probably wasn't the right choice of words and Lore knew it, but what else could he say about the fact that Elnara wanted Celebor to be trained here?

Ulrich shrugged noncommittically. "They still might be," he replied vaguely. "As I said, rumour only."

Well and he knew that at least a few of her brothers were as pigheaded as ever. One in particular. Thankfully, Daeron was old enough now to stand up to his father.

"I suppose.... it would not hurt to hope a bit," Lore murmured, "I suppose we'll see in the future."

Though how long into the future he did not know, only that they would evenually see.

Just then, Ulani came back into the room, Aliya in her arms.

"Elnara will just be a few minutes more," she smiled at the others. "Storm doesn't want to go to bed, apparently." She laughed softly.

Ulrich chuckled lightly. "He's a kid, kids are like that."

"I'm not!" Celebor protested at the (he thought) unfair comment. "I go to bed when Mommy tells me to!"

He never stopped to think that it was most likely because he was always tired when she told him to. Or that half the time, he was heading to bed even before he was told.

Lore chuckled at that, "He meant most kids are like that."

He smiled thoughtfully, though he hoped Storm would settle down later. Maybe he would... evenually.

Ulrich laughed heartily at Celebor, and reached across the table and ruffled the boy's hair. "You just keep going," he told him with a grin. "Always do what your mother tells you to do."

He wished his own children had been like that when they were younger. Thankfully, there was one problem they no longer had to worry about.

Celebor pushed Ulrich's hand away. "Don't mess up my braid!" he protested. "I don't know how to do it myself yet and Feng isn't here to do it for me!"

He paused. "Cept well Mommy does it for me too ..."

Then he looked back up at Ulrich and pouted. "But don't mess it up, 'kay? Sasku did that all the time and I didn't like it."

Lore blinked in surprised, this was perhaps the first time he had heard Celebor himself mention Sasku at all. Though he could understand the fustration.

"Well when you go to bed it'll have to be rebraided when you wake up," he reminded Celebor.
