Forgetting about his injury for the moment, Aer looked down at the familiar and frowned. It stared up at him and gurgled.

"You're not slimy, are you?" he mused, and knelt to touch it. His hand went straight through it, and the gurgling rose to a higher pitch, as if it was enjoying the attention. The hair on Aer's arm stood on end, but he wasn't harmed by the electricity. "Just a big ball of light, I guess," Aer said. "Lux would be a good name for you. Old Tongue for Light. What do you think?"

This time Lux gave, not a gurgle or a shriek, but a soft squeal that seemed uncharacteristic.

"So you can understand me, at least," Aer said. "All right then, Lux, I think we ought to go show Wraith that you're not--" He paused and looked at Tekira, suddenly remembering her presence.

"Um," he said, turning a little red in the face. "He didn't hurt you, did he?"

Satsujin took the canteen and swallowed steadily for almost five seconds before she suddenly ripped it away from her face and stared at it. "I... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to drink so much, and we're in the middle of a desert... So stupid of me..." She shook her head and handed the canteen back, half-empty, looking disgusted with herself. She looked off over the horizon as if searching for something, but sighed when she obviously didn't find it.

"I... It was my Hearrte. I can't explain." Actually, it was more that she didn't want to explain. When people learned about Satsujin, and how she sensed her Hearrte, it tended to lower their opinions about her. She never killed unless she had to, but the nature of it remained. She would rather not endure another person looking at her like she was a cold-blooded killer. "I was searching for my Hearrte," she finished lamely. "I was a fool to try crossing this desert alone... They told me it would take a few days, but I must have gotten lost." She smiled weakly. "I'm... not a native of the area. Oh! I'm sorry, my name is Satsujin." And another embarassing secret. Thankfully, very few people understood the Gensanchi Islands Old Tongue--even the inhabitants. Satsujin herself only understood a few words, one of which was her name. "Murder". Of course, it was an old name; she had been named after a character in a legend. Her parents, apparently, hadn't known what the name actually meant. Satsujin hoped this woman, Faeandra, wouldn't either.

Faeandra smiled faintly. "Don't worry. We're right beside a lake right now, so you can drink all you want," she assured her, gesturing to the water, "Searching for your Hearrte, eh? As am I."
Faeandra returned the drink to Satsujin's hands, "Here, you need to drink more, Satsujin. You're lucky you didn't die in that desert. Or worse, have the Black Marauders catch you. They don't like very many people."
This girl didn't seem too dangerous. Of course, Faeandra couldn't forget the two katanas she carried, but still. The poor thing couldn't even cross a desert with the proper rations of water.

((*edit* Heh, I just noticed there's supposed to be a big fat ship here. Serves me right for not reading everything before responding.))

When the ship appeared, Faeandra very wisely turned and hunched her back towards the sand kicked up by it's arrival. She did her best to stand and shield the poor weakened girl Faeandra was now tending to. When the sand and wind died down, Faeandra turned, brushing the piles of sand from her back and shaking it out of her dress. She pulled her feet out of the now large amounts of sand on the ground and planted her hands on her hips, staring at the ship, rather perturbed.
"That was quite rude." She muttered.

Janika noticed this. "Wraith!" Janika called out. She wasn't sure what do do about this gitacr thing.

Tekira smiled. "No, not at all. He just growled at me a bit." She looked at it carefully. "So, what is it? Do you know?"
A familiar? What does he want with a familiar? a bit of her mind wondered.
Then she remembered that he'd seemed hurt by the attack on the...thing. "Are you okay?"

Aer nodded faintly in response to Tekira's concern, but he still held his stomach.

"My... Did Wraith shoot Lux?" he asked. "I think I'm connected to it. Him. Lux, I mean."

Satsujin coughed violently as the sand swirled around, getting into her eyes and her mouth, but she sat up and got to her knees nonetheless, hacking away as if she was a 73-year-old smoker. After nearly a minute, she sat back on her haunches.

"Black Marauders," she muttered, and tossed back another gulp. "If they'd come upon me in the first two or three days of my journey, I probably would have been able to hold them off. I'm glad, though, that..." Suddenly she eyed Faeandra suspiciously. "You aren't one of them, are you?" Despite her concern, she didn't hesitate to take her eyes off of Faeandra while she took another swig of the water. When she finished, she unhooked an empty one from her waistband and knelt by the water, swirling her finger around in it to see if there was anything nasty in it, other than sand.

"Wraith! The gitacr! It's blowing sand!" Janika said louder this time.

Tekira blushed, feeling more embarrassed than she probably should have. "Yeah. I think I told you that...Lux, you said?...was between you and me, and Wraith must have thought it was threatening us, so...yeah..." she trailed off, still red.
Then a thought occurred. "Connected? How?"

((Umm, the ship isn't blowing sand any more. That only happened when it first came down, due to air flow and vibrations and such. It was a one time thing.))

"It's a familiar," Aer explained. "I've never had one, but I've heard sorcerers speak of them... My father as well." He sighed. "Probably no bloody coincidence," he added. "A familiar is a spirit that accompanies a sorcerer. They usually have animal forms, or at least that's what I've heard, but this one is different. I asked for one that could fight and, erm, carry my Hearrte for me. It's not exactly a coin, like Wraith's," he added defensively, thinking that it would seem lazy. And it was, really.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 09, 2007 11:20 pm

"Oh." said Tekira simply, examining the thing. "Well, it's a good idea to have one that can carry your Hearrte. I mean, what if you need it and you're not near the place where you've stored it? It was smart." It never even occurred to her to construe his idea as lazy or bad.
Then she frowned. "Asked who?"

Aer coughed into his arm. "Well, you see, my Hearrte... I can summon... things out of it." He figured it might be a little dangerous to come right out and say he had a box out of which he could summon demons. Might seem a little... odd, to say the least. "Lux came out of it," he said. That wasn't a lie, after all. When Paimon created Lux, the little--well, not really 'little'--ball of light had sprung from within the box.
