Kareswen wondered if he was still thinking about the fact that she hadn't been in Minas Tirith when it fell. It had probably never occured to him that a teenage girl in 'the golden age' would never have wielded a sword, never mind about survive a battle even if she'd been in it. "I learnt here." She replied shortly. "And I practised my skills between Osgiliath and Mordor."

He nodded, "A dangerous place to practice. In my village, man and woman alike was expected to be trained as a warrior. If there was a raid, there was no excuse for cowardice if all could defend."

She nodded without speaking, instead scanning the horizon for any sign of the enemy. Their current position was exposed and they needed to remain alert.

The ranger seemed to make no such movements, but tha was mainly because he could hear around them, and his cloak would keep him from being seen by all but the keenest eye.

She nodded, without even bothering to look. His eyesight was keener than hers if he'd spotted them, so she would go along with his observations until the orcs were in a position to make mischief.

There was a crash as an orc was pushed over by the rest of the crowds excitement. For a moment for Ranu, everything seemed to slow. He drew his sword, pushing himself into a faster pace.
