"Well, even if the town is not the most heavily populated, or the well defended, or shows great prpspect, it is a very important place."
He opened a cupboard at the side of the ebony desk, pulling out two glass chalices with a matching decanter, "Wine?" He didnt wait for an answer, he simply poured two glasses.
"You see, Barton is what they call the 'Heart of Gaia'. It is a symbol of the world. Essentially, All trade routes cross the area. It is surrounded by flat plains on all sides. It simply has the potential to be an extremely useful strategic location."

"Yes, we've had our eyes on Barton for some time now. Thank you," he said, taking a glass of wine and sipping it a bit. "My followers have already established a raiding force. As we speak, they are preparing to attack. How soon do you think the others will respond?"

"I have faith in their abilities to arrive on the time indicated."
He did not say any specifics, y'know in case there was someone easedropping, though that was unlikely with the protective charms set up. But hey, you never know. Fourth wall bullcrap and all that.
He took a sip of wine, "I've been told by an agent that there is a large gathering of some sort of army there. This is true?"

"I wouldn't call it an army, really. Just a small raid force. Go in, snatch some bodies, cause some mayhem, then get out. Your decision to spring an attack on Barton has changed some of that. Reinforcements have already been dispatched to accomodate."
Darsh took a sip of his wine. If there was anyone somehow listening in on their conversation, despite the protections and whatnot, he would know, and the unfortunate soul who gets caught would soon be regretting playing the role of a spy. Death would not be quick, if it came at all.

Alpha didn't flinch, but as Ra'Kar was the Shadelord was too. He had his on specific brand of diplomacy, different than event the Forgotten's own temptations. Alpha always offered first, offered allegiance or power, then he would eventually offer another opportunity: join the ranks of his cause. Strangely enough people always thought this a threat and had to be subjugated.
Nobody saw the gifts he offered, nobody saw the beauty in his plans. Everyone had to be forced.
But this was his master's show, and his master was acting through Victory who in turn was acting through Ra'Kar. Thus he would stand guard and let her speak. Ready to lay down his own diplomacy if hers went awry.

The shaded eye, more like a beholder than anything, now approached further along, nearing the gaping maw that was known as the 'Demon's Chasm'.
It sent out a steady pulse of negative energy, as if ringing the proverbial doorbell, and alerting those who had taken residence within to their presence.

Kraun There was a gate? Well, maybe a large archway, where a gate would have once been, but not an actual gate. The ruins were in a state of ill repair, but that mattered little to the inhabitants; they lived underground in the depths of the keep. There was no gatekeeper, at least nobody waiting and guarding the doorways of the land. Rather, there were simply handfuls of undead scattered around the lands above ground, usually in hiding. What would appear was a simple wispy shadow which had the general shape of a person and two white dots where eyes should be. "State your business." The woman bowed with a slight hinge of the pelvis. Enough to show respect, but not lowering herself.
She spoke plainly, not wasting elegence on such a straight forward reply.
"We seek an audience with the master of Sorrow's Keep."
Her shields were tightly in place, keeping the thoughts of 'You can let us in, or we'll let ourselves in' to herself.

"Enter."
It was easy as that. Sadly enough, few had ever had the politeness to answer the damn question.
The shadow would not move from its place or lead them further into the grounds. However, there was a clear path to follow; directly across from the ruined gates, through the crumbling structure, door half buried in the ground. Actually, it only appeared that way, for the ground it rested against was at the bottom of a slope. Underground was the way to go.
And through the maze-like caverns, it would be oddly easy to navigate. Trapdoors opening and closing for the visitors, guiding them down the weaving paths, for other larger rooms were quite obviously not the place to look.
And at the end of the weaving tunnels, there would be a simple black door. A black diamond with a skull engraved into the wood.
One may have to wonder why entry to the grounds was so easily obtained. Maybe it was because whoever was in charge had enough power to repel enemies on their own ground. Maybe the desecration and overwhelming negative energy would take apart enemies before they got far. Maybe whoever was in charge was just an idiot.
What did it matter? Good manners dictate polite treatment for guests.

Ra'kar bowed again, ever so slightly.
"Thank you."
She said to the spirit as strode forward, moving past the ethereal entity. Her party following behind her, she would lead them underground, moving through the corridors with confidence and grace.
Her mind mapping the route they took as her eyes drank in every little detail. Outwardly she was self-composed, the vision of calm dignity. Inwardly her mind was alert and sharp, ready to react if need be.
But the master of the keep was either well mannered and civilized or overly confident and they arrived at their destination un-molested. Pausing only for a moment, her eyes danced over the skull and diamond set into the wood of the blackened entrance.
Raising her hand, she rapped on the door and waited for a response from the master within.

Oh? Someone who knocks? This was new. Though they could have just opened the door if they wanted. It wasnt locked or anything. But hey, if they knocked, then that meant they were waiting to be let in. Shouldnt waste time with that.
The door would open rather quickly. Sort of like an angry neighbor flinging their front door open in a fit of rage to an unwelcome visitor. But that wasnt the case. On the other side of the circular room, across the large circular table, sat a man.
The door had been opened from all the way across the room. However, it was not done with any fancy magic tricks, just a wire wrapped around the handle of the door, stretching across the room to the man's left hand. It wasnt like he relied on magic tricks for everything.
"I hear you are here to see me." He didnt look at the visitors when he spoke, rather, he was gazing into a crystal ball set on the table a little to his side, though he had a light grin on his face, as if he had just seen something very funny.
"Come, make yourself at home, sit." Decruda finally looked up and waved them into the room. To the side next to the door was a glass cabinet containing several crystal glasses and decanters of liquor, if they so chose to drink. And when they had taken a seat, in any of the chairs set up around the table, he'd ask them what business they had.
"So why are you here?"

Ra'kar raised one brow as the door seemed to fling itself open. Her face softening into a smile as she took a moment to appreciate the simple contraption their host had rigged up to the door.
She would take two paces through the door and then pause, with her right leg forward, keeping it perfectly straight as her left knee bent and and she dipped forward, lowering her torso in a graceful bob, with a slight downturn of her head as she held her skirts out to the side. A formal curtsy.
"You have heard correctly m'lord."
It didn't matter to her whether he saw the mark of respect and formality or not, she had the sneaking suspicion that no action amidst their company would go amiss. That went for both sides...
"Might I ask the name of the Lord who so graciously bestows his hospitality upon us?"
Ra'kar would drink but only if offered. She only helped herself amongst established acquaintances or people she meant to offend and simply didn't care about upsetting. People that usually tasted her blade shortly after.
Decruda was not one of the latter, nor was he the former.
First, introductions.
Then business and niceties.

Guess it couldn't be helped. The man stood up out of his seat and took a bow, dropping the wire as he did so, letting it hang loosely across the room and table. He dressed rather plainly. Wearing a plain black robe. No weapons, no equipment, no spell components visible.
"Decruda Blackvale, madame. Welcome to Sorrow's Keep."

"Lady Ra'kar'shei'lian, we thank you for the welcome Lord Decruda."
She smiled at him eloquently, there was something about his character that she liked. And Ra'kar did not 'like' or tolerate very many people.
She moved further into the room, selecting a chair across from the dark lord and seating herself with a boneless grace, nodding at Alpha to join them at the table.
Waiting for Decruda to re-take his seat, she turned her attention to their host's original query, the reason for their presence.
Smiling she brushed crimson bangs from her face met his gaze. There was something determined and undeniably powerful lurking behind her delicate features as she said,
"We are here Decruda, because I believe that establishing a relationship between our two factions, may be... considerably beneficial to us both."

Of course, he'd take his seat along with his guests. As the woman spoke, it was easy to see that his inverted eyes went back and forth between the woman and the crystal ball, splitting his visual attention between them, though she owned his hearing for the moment. However, he'd look away and focus his attention on the woman when she finished.
"Hmm..." He appeared to ponder, before returning a smile, "Sounds lucritive. May I inquire as to what faction you represent? As I would presume you already know about this one as you are here, I have yet to know about yours."
Information. You can never get enough of it.

The representation of the only remaining heir to the land you now reside in.
The voice echoed out in spidery splinters of sound, emanating from the Shaded Eye which had moved alongside the other two, perhaps unnoticed until now.
Or rather the only remnants of a bloodline capable of fully unlocking and unearthing the treacherous secrets that drove a sane man mad and a mad man to death.
Victor Fah, son of Draeger Fah.
