Asi nodded slowly, tail flicking along with his gaze. He had the feeling of being watched, but he wasn't sure who was doing the watching. He dragged himself to all fors with a grunt, he would have perfered a nap to be honest, and lept from the rock, landing with a small thump. He shifted. "Which way, then, eh?"

"Uhh..." Amari shook his fur and straightened his posture, turning his head to gaze about them, rocks, rocks and more rocks. Well this certainly wasn't going to be the most interesting walk he had ever been on. He gave a wry grin and pointed out the direction with an outstretched paw. "How about that way?" He indicated the direction that would take them just to the right of the rocks that the cheetah was hiding.

He sneezed once, ridding his nostrils of the irritating dust and then shaking his head he plodded off at a slow gait, paws padding softly against the ground and tail swinging behind him.

He shrugged and headed foward, yawning a bit. "A'right, sounds ter be good." His tail flicked, gaze remaining on the destination. He shifted again, just the littlest bit; nose twitching. He never had liked the feeling of being watched.

Feeling a pang of alarm overtake her body, Taraju's pale eyes widened; shrinking against the rock pile, she held her breath and listened. The low, gruff voices had ceased, to be replaced by a gentle padding of feet... but in what direction? From where? Towards or away from her? There was no clear way to tell.

Her gaze, as rapid as her running, darted from place to place-- if those lions caught a glimpse of her, who knew what they'd do? She knew all too well that she was scrawny, vulnerable, lost in this eternal grassland... and on top of that... an odd sight, as her clan used to tell her.

As she often did, Taraju silently cursed the spotches of bright, unerasable teal paint on her fur. As if she weren't strange enough already, a dark umber cheetah... those horrible markings made her stand out like a sore thumb. But, it certainly hadn't been her decision to have them there in the first place.

Little did the cub know that as she crouched there, worrying and thinking, two dark shadows had fallen upon the top of the rock pile...

The rust-coloured lion twitched his ears towards Asi, his head tilting questioningly. "Something up?" He asked. A tension had seemed to fall over them both only a few moments before, as if something bad was about to happen.

He gave a small squeaky roar and jumped up onto one of the smaller, flattter rocks, turning his back on the cheetah he was still unaware of - boy was he unobservant. "I'm not gonna try and attack you again or anything." The juvenile said, rolling his dark brown eyes and huffing slightly.

His tail slid from its operch on the rock beside him and fell, swinging down behind the rock pile, perhaps somewhere in the vicinity of the hidden cheetah.

As Amari stated this he backed up a few steps, eyed widening, body slightly crouching. "Aye, I did no say yer were goin' ter." He hissed, suddenly all his suspicion back. "Jus' feel like I do be being watched.." He trailed off, slowly forcing himself to untense. "I do be well aware yer no goin' ter attack me.."

Out of nowhere, something came trailing down into her thoughts-- and her personal space. Startled, clamping her jaws down upon a sound of surprise, Taraju took a few steps backwards.

The dark cheetah's eyes had widened, and she dared not even to breathe; a long thin tail, much like a snake, had suddenly dangled down from the rock before her. Apparently, the two lions had found her hiding spot... but did they know that she was there? Were they trying to lure her out, like a wildcat with its mouse?

Questions darted through her mind; she could feel her heart pattering within her chest, as low voices exchanged words somewhere on the other side of the rocks.

They have probably found me already... what'll I do? I can't risk my life -again-, and who knows what kind of temperment lions have? Should I make a break for it, and run?

The rust-colored tail had begun to swish, back and forth like a pendulum; Taraju glanced about fearfully at it. Just her luck, however... just as she looked forwards, a small cloud of dust from the tail hit her nose.

A tiny sniffle burst from her; with a gasp, Taraju backed up, her hind legs clumsily rattling some pebbles. Cursing herself with all her might, the cheetah crouched low to the ground, squeezing her eyes as tight as possible... it was all over!

He tried to ignore the fact that Asikari seemed to have tensed up once again, forcing down the desire to shake the other lion. He had to remember that not all lions were like himself, there was always going to be others that were wary and nervous.

"Who would be watching us?" He asked curiously, head tilted to one side as he glanced at the other juvenile. "There can't be anyone for miles around." He wrinkled his snout and sighed. "Anyway even if someone was watching us they're probably nothing that could harm or scare a lion." A small grin tugged at his maw.

At that very moment the hidden cheetah made a sound, it was relatively small but easily distinguishable in the otherwsie peaceful surroundings. Amari's eyes widened, his front paws slipping forwards as he was startled, his torso falling forwards until it hit the ground, a dusty cloud rising up from the effort, his chin making contact with the floor.

"Ouch!" He mumbled, pulling himself up onto his paws and shaking the dust from his fur before whirling around to face the attacker. What could it be?

((-laughes out loud- that would have been marvalous to actually see.))

Asi jumped back as Amari tumbled foward, and if he wasn't just as surprised and a little frightened he might of laughed. "There do no be annee thin' therr, eh? Well.. som'un is therr." He sure sounded nervous. He took a few steps foward, now beside Amari. His fur was standing on end and he let out a small growel. " 'ell then, do show yer self, eh?"

It all happened so quickly that she had no time to think, no time to escape. Out of the blue, the tail had disappeared... and in its stead, a large rust-colored object plummeted from the sky. With a yelp of surprise, the little cheetah sprang backwards, her eyes tearing up from the clouds of dry dust.

Warning signals erupted in her head... Taraju crouched low to the ground tensely, dark fur bristling. Narrowing her icy eyes, the cub nonetheless could not hide the faint trembling of her legs...

She had finally, unexpectedly, come face-to-face with the two youths. One of them had fallen into the rock pile with an oof, and now turned to see her; the other ambled slowly forwards. Flattening her ears, Taraju stared shakily up at them...

They are so... -big-. Nothing of my size could possibly take them on... I could hope to outrun them, but--

Taraju swallowed, determined not to show any sign of fear. Although the thought of escaping with her speed seemed favorable... at the moment, her legs were stubbornly rooted to the ground.

They stood over her, expressions unreadable on their rugged faces, shadows cast entirely over the small cheetah. The one that had fallen was a brilliant shade of rust, with a cocky tilt to his head; his companion's hues were more subtle, his face impassive. Both of them appeared powerful to Taraju, and she backed a couple steps, intimidated.

As the smoky lion let out a low growl, mumbling something thick in lions' accent, Taraju crouched once more to the ground... her jaws clenched, the little cheetah snarled warningly:

"D-don't lay a paw on me! I... I'm not big, but... I'm capable of defending myself!"

Oh, if only her small voice didn't shake so much, if her words were actually true!

(( XD !! ))

Amari narrowed his eyes, turning his head towards the lion standing beside him. "Okay, okay so you were right I was wrong, happy?" He huffed and lowered his head, glancing at the little spotty animal.

His first thought had been that the creature was a leopard, one of those tree cats that had mocked him before. His whiskers twitched in a snarl of his own but he soon realised this creature looked quite different. It was a cheetah, the fastest cats to walk the face of the Earth and a creature he had only come across once or twice in his short life. So if it was so frightened why wasn't it running away?

His eyes scanned the small feline and took in the threatening snarl and the trembling of it's legs. Then when it spoke the voice was distinctly feminine.

"Hey hey, calm down there short stuff." He chuckled, eyes sparkling with amusement. "With teeth like those I'm sure you could hand quite a hefty bite." He peered at her through the strands of his mane. "It's not good to jump to conclusions about lions you know, we have no intention of harming you." He turned to Asikari to help him confirm this, "is that right?"

He then once again glanced at the cheetah and shook his head, she seemed to be quite scared and it wasn't nice to be looked at in such a way. It made him feel evil, mean and somewhat untrustworthy.

A cheetah? His growling cut off and he let himself untense, nodding slowly. "Aye, he do be right yer know? We do no mean annee 'arm." He took a step back, a big believer in personal space, and plopped down, tail flicking slowly back and forth. His eyes were traveling around the female's spotty fur, lingering on each teal swirl.

He glanced to Amari a moment, head tilting. He did not mind other animals, just lions, and definetly ment the poor thing now harm. He wondered why she was so little though.

It was impossible to know exactly what each of them was thinking, but... by the tones of their voices, the crooked smile upon the rusty lion's jaws, Taraju realized that they were not going to harm her. Slowly, she let her lean body relax, straightening to face them hesitantly.

Maybe it was better that she hadn't darted off-- not like she could in the first place anyway, her paws being rooted to the ground. The lions seemed pleasant enough... she had judged wrongly, yes, but it never hurt to be careful.

"A....ah."

Short stuff? She turned the phrase over in her mind, frowning a bit. Well, it was true anyhow, as embarrasing as it was.

"I-...I'm sorry. I wasn't going to bite you-- thought it would be the other way around. But now I see I was wrong in judgement. I've just never been in contact with... lions before--"

The words rushed in a stream out of her mouth; realizing that she was rambling, Taraju ducked her head, pale eyes apologetic. She was sure that the lions thought her very odd by now. Not only was her accent distinctly different from the lions' drawl, but her dark fur and horridly bright markings were sure to set them off.

Feeling their eyes upon her, scanning the spots and swirls with interest, Taraju's worries were confirmed; she squirmed a bit under their gazes. It made her feel smaller than ever, and a bit lonely.

Hearing voices, Binti froze, and padded silently off in their direction, her curiosity piqued. This area used to be so...empty. she thought wistfully, although she had to admit, Essi hadn't been too bad--and neither were 'kali and Shujaa, if she were honest. Keeping low to the ground, Binti watched the two young lions interact with the cheetah cub, hoping that they weren't going to harm the youngster in any way. It was one thing to mouth off, another to pick on something that much smaller than oneself. Almost offhandedly, she noticed that this cub, also, possessed odd, swirling markings, although the smallish cheetah's were in vibrant, almost unnatural colors. They made for a striking combination, although Binti was glad for her own muted green ones, as, she reasoned, it would be a lot harder to blend into one's surroundings with markings like those!

As she listened to them speak for a minute, her tension eased, although she remained hidden from view, recognizing the rude lion who had irritated her by the water hole.

When Binti veered off in another direction, Shujaa stared after Us'kali for a moment before trotting after Binti--they could catch up to the elder lioness later, he figured. It didn't take long for him to notice the low sound of voices, not too far away. Picking up on the juvenile's need for silence, Shujaa crept forward carefully, not wanting to give his newfound companion any reason to become annoyed with him. He paused a few feet behind Binti, just off of her right hind leg, and lay down on his belly, following her gaze to see what, exactly, had caught her attention.

((don't feel that y'all need to interact with Binti, I just HAD to post something ^^; *was getting withdrawalllllll~*))

(( Yay for Binti and co. XD ))

Amari was aware that Asikari stepped back but his own paws remained fixed to the ground, his neck curved downwards to peer once again at the cheetah. She seemed to be less scared now and that pleased him, he didn't like appearing like the big bad cat that he obviously wasn't...well not all the time.

"Well not all lions are so nice, you better remember that, otherwise you could be eaten or something...but I'll guarantee we won't do anything like that." He swished his tail noisliy to one side and eyed her with a softer gaze, taking in her unusual appearance from the strange glassy eyes that reminded him strangely of Bakhti's and the faint spots that dappled her entire coat apart from where they were hidden beneath swirls of...paint?

"So what's a pretty little cub like you doing all out here by yourself?" He asked softly, moving to lie down on the ground and stretching out his forepaws on the dusty floor. "It's not the safest place to choose for an adventure although..." He glanced briefly around, seeing nothing else of interest. "Not many places are safe."

He himself had become increasingly aware of the dangers in the world, ones that would keep snapping at him until he had reached the fine age of adulthood. The leopards with their frightening advantage of height in the trees had scared him more than he would ever let on, it wasn't something he was particularly proud of especially when he had put across the tough-lion image across to practically everyone he had met.

He yawned widely and shook his mane, watching the cheetah with interest.
