I usually don't tap my foot, but I still keep beat. Recently, both my bd's noticed that I don't tap; They nag at me to tap! But then I get so focused on tapping that I don't play quite well... o.o

River Angel Odin Okay, this has been bothering me for three years...since 6th grade when I joined the middle school band. I'm not saying I downright hate my band director or anything, but I can't possibly keep tempo without having to tap my foot. And he's told me so many times to stop (but I still havn't) and he says that tapping your foot is for babies, which was quite insulting to me, actually. My dad's a big music teacher (He was Rhode Island Teacher of the Year) and he taps his foot, which basically means that Mr. Fortier was calling him a baby. The funny thing is, he looks up to my dad yet he's calling him a baby. sweatdrop Anyway, do you think tapping your foot is at all bad? I think that your band director is full of it.. Every single band directer I have had since elementary school has said that tapping your foot is helpful and does in fact help you with your music.... So next time he says something stand up for yourself..

Actually my BD preaches to us about keeping a beat with our toes. Lol. :]

Ah, I never really do that, atleast in concerts. I don't do anything in concerts actualy, I usauly just do the ol' one eye on the conductor stuff. I can't believe my teacher hasn't yelled at me though because i have this tendency to like, bounce my nee up and down, unintentionaly though. I think its become a habit because I do it a lot, in and out of band. I'm surprised that he hasn't like wondered what the hell of a speed I'm counting at xD 4/4 time? psh more like 8329084938/? time xD I cant remember more then 4/4 and cut and 6/4

I can't tap my foot while I'm playing. I'm not quite sure why, but I just can't. dx
Throws me off, strangely. I have this internal metronome in the back of my brain. I'm usually the one on beat. xD

I can't tap my foot. I never have. It's, like, really far away from your brain. What I do if I really need to keep time is nod my head, or bob my scroll up and down. Metronomes are annoying and I can never hear them over my violin >.<

Well you could always just tap your toes so he can't see.
Tapping your foot isnt a bad thing. My bd hates when I do it though cause I can stay perfectly in time and tap a different tempo.
