Whoo! I glad I found this place. xD -Feels at home here- Anywho. I'm a Junior and I've been on colorguard for three years. It rox so hard. My freshie year, we sucked. We had alot of people though. Like 40...But alot of them quit or got kicked off. Sophie year, we had 4. Yes. Four. But we got first place at every competition. So it's true that size doesn't matter. This year, we had six (me included). And we got a new coach. She's okay I guess. She comes from a rival school nearby...And her younger cousin is a sophmore on the guard, but played flute last year. She totally sucks and the only reason she's on guard is because the coach is a relative. Little brown-noser. Anywho...
I do, flag, rifle, and sabre. I do a little of baton but that's not really guard related. I can do about a double on a flag if it's unweighted; I can do triples and quads on a rifle like it's nothing. But a quint is a little shaky. Gotta work on it some more. Sabre I really don't do tosses that much. Just about triples and that's all. Rifle and flag is my passion. I love them. It's a shame that next year will be my last year in high school marching band...
My school has never had winterguard. But my band director wants to do something new: it's called indoor marching band (has anyone ever done that before?). We'll be holding auditions at the beginning of the second semester so I'm uber excited!
Our guard really doesn't have any captains. And I'm the only veteran in the guard. Everyone are freshman with the exception of two who are just new to guard. But it's all cool. People in the band say that I should've been captain because I'm the only one who shows leadership skills and actually has experience. But I think it'd be too much work with that and JROTC to do.
The point is: my feet were made for marching; my hands were built to spin and twirl; and if you don't know why I'm not scared, it's because I'm a flag girl. Peace. I'm out.

Youko Mitsuki Whoo! I glad I found this place. xD -Feels at home here -
The point is: my feet were made for marching; my hands were built to spin and twirl; and if you don't know why I'm not scared, it's because I'm a flag girl. Peace. I'm out. I hope Youko doesn't mind, but I only quoted parts of her little blog that I agreed with... ha ha! I was a senior when I joined marching band, and the guard. It was hard, especially for a volleyball freak like me... but I persevered and it paid off. I lost weight, got admiration from this guy I liked (which was a pretty good confidence boost for me 'cause at that time, I wasn't doing so well with my self esteem and stuff) ALSO... I fell in love with guard. It's been three years since then, and I've bought two flags and am maintaining as well as honing my skills for both a five foot flag and a six foot flag. I'm working on buying a sabre this year so I could learn how to do awesome stuff with it. But it always seems like yesterday that I took up on learning how to march, and grumble about angles... Oh those were the days.... ♥ You Can Call Me Al ♥

I'm new to guard, although I'll be a junior. I didn't THINK I could fit it before. Then I had to suffer through study hall.... sorry about that little rant. But anyway, it's a lot of fun although I twirled a flag for like 4 days (?) so far. Soon we'll be in new member camp and stuff! I'm so happy! And our coach is a guy and most definitely gay. First of all, he's doing colorguard. He's good at dancing, like really good. And he had white flowers painted on his toenails! Plus the song he picked...... Next year's going to be fun!
Also, our winterguard last year did Pirates of the Carribbean. It was so awesome. Sabers, rifles, and silks. You should've seen it! 3nodding
Edit: the gay guy isn't our coach. We have this girl that is never there, and this old guy that oversees the auxiliary. Our band plus our music department is screwed.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing that double, triple, quad, etc. refers to number of spins, right?
I've never really counted actual SPINS, but I can toss a flag up about 10-12 feet and still catch it. I can't handle a rifle that well, but I'm being taught, and sabre... ugh. But I've done baton since I was eight. I stopped to do guard because guard practice and baton clases were at the same time. So I'm really rusty.
But... yup.
My name is Lily, by the way.

Hi!
As you can probably guess, from me being here, I'm a guard. I've only spun for 2 years, but in my high school I was good. Out of 7 guard, 3 were there for 6 years, and I could spin pretty much on the same level as they did. xd I spin flag mostly, but I learned a little bit of rifle from one of my captains over the winter (spinning in the auditorium!). I've never counted how many times my tosses go around though.....all I know if that what I do is probably not very impressive compared to what others can do. I have been told that my tosses have a lot of power for me being so short though! heart
Oh, and my name's Lizzing (or you can just call me Niniver, lol......it's just a name I made up for Gaia). I'm a college freshman now, and I'm not marching this year because I need a break to catch up to the level of my university's guard. heart sweatdrop
My favorite would have to be flag, mostly because I'm best with it (plus I've never injured myself w/ it....unlike jamming all ten fingers w/ rifle!). I've also used 10-foot flags (actually, I'm not even sure if they're 10 feet....). The poles are springy/rubbery....and we call em Boingers! lol. Has anyone else used those before?
