I mean, the annoying part to me would be keeping tally between multiple characters. If it were me, I would wait until I got a character to level 3 before making another one, then I can start with the next post from level 3 onward and just keep track that way. No real math needed.

Well I just keep track individually for the most part with my character per post. Have a post counter on it so I just add 1 from the last one each time. I also do a bit extra by adding a post tracker on my profile page to link to every one one of my posts with that character.
