Gale Gentry ( Y3 Death Hunter Specialist )
He'd been enjoying the conversation with Kara, mostly because she was curious and it wasn't often that anyone was curious about Gale's specialization other than the ones he already worked with. Having a new trainee be interested was a good thing, he thought.
At least before the arrival of Mark, and of his royal highness.
<< Abort mission abort mission. >> Jinhai said hastily inside of his head.
Gale's mouth opened.
"LUCKY!" he yelled, but they were already gone, and there was sand everywhere, and Gale knew exactly where they were and somehow this was all Lucky's fault. Well, it was Caelius's, too, because it was always Caelius's fault, but -
Gale dragged himself to his feet, brushing sand from his coat, then reached down to help drag the others to their feet. His rifle appeared a second later in his left hand; he swung it around, reaching up to slide on his shooting glasses.
He desperately needed to find Stormy most of all. She was here, she had to be here, she'd been in the room when Caelius had arrived -
There.
He saw her, just over the way, and Gale started towards her, but the centipedes that roiled around his feet were snapping at his ankles, vicious and hungry, and Gale swung the rifle towards them, feeling a distinct sense of annoyance and exasperation.
"Just - don't let them get to you," he said to Kara, with a nod at Bradley, who's face was vaguely familiar, but not more than that. "The're just FEAR created."

Her head was still spinning from the sudden upheaval--or... downfall?--and she gave a small laugh again, this time to Gale's advice. "To be fair. There's likely worse things than centipedes only two feet long." Like say, one that's thirty feet long, or more.
But she looked towards the guy--wait was that armor on his legs? Why didn't they all have armor?--she'd fallen on, a slight tint of pink on her cheeks for the mishap. Did he say the Sahara? Before she could ask questions, a scythe formed in his hands, and she couldn't help but perk up.
<Friend of yours?> Branwen was silent to this, though Kara got the distinct impression the dark scythe in her own hands wasn't too interested in chatter while they had bugs snapping at them. Or rather, at Kara's legs. "Your weapon is beautiful," she instead said to the guy, eyeing the massive scythe and what seemed to be blood already dripping from it. That was... new. "I take it not all orientations are like this?"
A sigh that sounded as if it were being sent through grit teeth made her blink, and refocus on the matter at hand just as more of the bugs began to snap a bit too close to her heels. <Converse later . . . fight now.> A subject that seemed to be easier said than done as Kara took her first swipe down with the blade of the scythe. It mostly hit sand, only grazing one of the two centipedes. The thing squirmed and its many legs tried to grab at the pole of her weapon, resulting in a hiss from Branwen and a yelp from Kara as she tried to untangle the scythe from the bug. Swinging the scythe more like a golf club and probably how a scythe should be used, she at least managed to slash both of the bugs attacking her, cutting one in half.
And then it exploded gunk and guts onto her stockings and boots. <. . . that is unfortunate.>
<This is disgusting,> was Kara's mental gagging, accompanied by some physical ones as well as she winced at the pain in her lower legs. Did... did Branwen just laugh? Really?

<Crush its head,> came the impatient sigh in her head, and Kara blinked, turning the scythe around to jam the butt of the scythe down onto the creature. It worked like a charm, to mixed results. Another explosion of gunk and pain zapped up her leg that got the brunt of it, but she stumbled back with a small sigh and laugh.
"Well that worked." She looked towards Gale with a small smile, noting at least they'd all had the misfortune of exploding bugs. "How exactly did they send us all here?" And why?
Realizing more centipedes were still around, Kara took a few steps towards the brunette with the other scythe, eyeing the blood-like substance on its blade. "Do you need any help?" She'd only had two to deal with. He had... what, five popped up at him?

Rolling for Centipedes - Tyra
She'd been trying to keep a low profile in the back of the classroom, keeping out of everyone's way. She wished she had music so she didn't have to hear other people having friendly conversations and dealing with socialisation as if it was nothing. That other her, the her in the dream had been good at it, he'd swam in gatherings like a very capable fish, having no problems at all. She felt nothing like him, struggling to so much as start a conversation, instead avoiding it completely.
When the ground fell out from under her she panicked, suddenly and acutely afraid. This wasn't like a game, this was real life, and too many times in her life real life had overwhelmed her. She was lost and she had no one at all on her side, she had to take care of herself. It had been that way for years and it was the case now.
Even when the insects came she knew she had to do what she could.

There was no option but to fight and cornered she reached for anything that might help her, summoning the long and lethal whip to her shaking and slender hands unsteadily. She had never wielded a real weapon and had no idea what to do, forced to rely on the compulsion which came with the voice in her head. She let the desire to do things guide her and cracked it heavily once, striking the sand in a puff of disturbed desert well wide of her opponent. While she did this another of the creatures bit out at her, slashing her across an ankle.
This annoyed her and desperation took control of everything else, a red mist overtaking her as she whirled against them, bringing the whip down over and over upon them, slashing them deeply enough to sever legs and carapaces alike.
Even when they stopped moving it was a sheer animal terror which kept her striking until she couldn't any more.
She looked around herself, nowhere to run, nowhere to go, she didn't know where she was. All she found herself capable of doing was hunkering down fearfully surrounded by the decimated bodies of her opponents.

He shouldn't have been surprised, maybe, because of course something ******** up was going to happen within days of him coming to this place, but -- somehow, in that moment as the world fell away beneath him, Vasily's expression still went to shock, like he couldn't believe that he wasn't safe here, surrounded by all these weirdos. Sometimes, people weren't rational. In this place, it seemed like they often weren't rational.
He hit the sand hard, the heat immediately starting to prickle at his skin, and Vash blinked dust and grit out of his eyes as he struggled to his feet. This was --
"Some ******** Wizard of Oz s**t going on --"
And he hadn't really meant to say it out loud, but it didn't matter that much; the wind would almost certainly swallow up his words. Vasily scraped hair out of hi face as his attention dropped to the sand at his feet, where six very nasty looking bugs circled him, antennae poking up through the sand. It made him start and scramble back, except there was one there, too, and for a moment he panicked.
The rattle of chains brought him back to himself, trying to place the sound. His weapon didn't speak to him much, but right now it prickled at his senses, like a cold breath on the back of his neck, just enough to serve as a reminder of what he was supposed to be, and what tools he had at his disposal.
He'd barely had the thought before the gun settled in his hand like a comfortable weight, and he raised it -- just a tiny bit shaky.
