Okay, she needed to focus! She couldn't just let it heal itself.
Serafina narrowed her eyes and squared her feet. She could do this! Serafina could help salvage the ghosts from their hole into the early glory they had experienced in the race.
Or not.

This was definitely discouraging. After landing a hit that did a fair amount of damage, she could tell by the mascot's reaction, she had not landed a single other hit. Serafina's enthusiasm was waning, her attempts to hit not quite as enthusiastic as before.
She knew she was really bad at fighting. Why was she bothering with this?
Hopelessly, Serafina attempted a kick, this time. She was fairly good at Dance Dance Dedolution. Maybe that would translate to some level of leg strength, right?
Apparently kicks worked better!

Serafina decided she would change her strategy. Punches clearly weren't working, but it seemed that her kicks did actually land. Maybe if she kept her kicks up instead of her punches, she might actually get this thing down before it knocked all the wind out of her.
Which it was doing a good job of, by the way.

She could do this! She could actually beat up this undead mascot, and she knew it! Those undeads would learn for taking over the lead from them, wouldn't they...

That worked?! Awesome! Maybe she should look into some of those martial arts things that focused on the legs. Perhaps she would become better at defending herself.
Though she was starting to feel a bit tired. She was a bit envious of those students with The Chill fears right about now...

She couldn't let the undead mascot kill her! This was pathetic!

Serafina had come to the conclusion that she was most definitely very bad at battling.
She felt like she was out of breath, clutching at her chest as it took another hit on her. Why couldn't she be as accurate as this thing was? She was shaming her fellow ghosts!

Serafina knew she did not have much left in her, but she wouldn't give up until she literally couldn't fight anymore.

After her own last attempt at a swing, that was enough to take her out. Unfortunately, she had not been able to actually take out the Undead Mascot...

Brenley was reminded of the creatures in the fog as he watched his fellow students fight the shadowy mascots. It wasn't the first time he had recalled the strange experiences he'd had there during this tournament, but he sincerely hoped it would be the last.
He thought to challenge one of the little grim reapers floating around the area, but when he summoned his katar and chose one to approach, his intentions were thwarted.
Without thinking, he scooped up a handful of dry dust from the ground near his feet and flung it in an arc toward the demon that had intercepted him, imbuing the rocks and dirt with FEAR as they left his hand.
The shadow hissed and struck back, opening up a large cut on the reaper's forearm.
