It didn't do anything. He was powerless. Completely powerless.
Launching up, he grabbed the photo before the shadowling could get to it, clutching it to his chest. Now the shadowling was headed towards him, and he backed towards his door.

In between a rock and a hard place, Marosa extended his hand and sent the shadowling writhing in pain, his own body blacking out as the picture clattered to the floor.

Coming to in his bed, Marosa bolted up and felt sick to his stomach. He had dissipated. Been defeated.
Was that what it was like?
Jack, he really needed to get it together...
... where was his picture?

The thing was on his picture.
That thing was on Muirin's picture.
Launching himself off of the bed, Marosa extended his hand and the staff at the same time, rage in his features as he watched the thing explode in satisfaction.
It should have known better than to touch his stuff, especially that picture. Walking over and picking it up, he cradled it gently as he headed out of his room towards the gates, using the staff as a walking stick.
He felt weak, but he'd make it. From what he could remember, that was the first time he'd dissipated. It was a horrific feeling, and he'd only begun to feel what Sharra had felt.

The light bled into colors, rippling and twisting before finalizing into a still cacophony of shapes. Merope recognized the images. His home, his room, himself, friends, family -- he focused his gaze on the stairs as he followed the spiral down, down.
At last he came to the end. Or what he presumed was the end. The undead serpent studied the three objects before him, the crown, staff, and sword.
Merope spat at the crown and shuddered away from the staff. There were too many unpleasant feelings and emotions tied to those two objects. There was only one for him. He reached for the sword.
< Is the path of the warrior the one you seek? >
His hand grasped the hilt. Merope straightened as he pulled the the object close to him, his eyes lighting with a bright glow as he experimentally swung it around.
Merope froze as the first crack reached his fins. He moved backwards as the cracks followed him --
- Do not be afraid -
-- He was going to fall. Sink into the dark oblivion. Merope slashed out at the darkness, moving back, back onto thin air as he began to fall --
This is merely a trial.

Merope surged out of the pool of water that was his bed, flailing and splashing until he was on the floor. He shook himself, raising his head and freezing when a pair of glowing yellow eyes stared back at him.
Immediately his fins flared out to their fullest reach, remaining there even as the intimidation was lost on the shadow. No, shadows. Merope hissed as he spotted more of them in his room. His hand tightened its grip on the object he held.
Wait, what? Merope's gaze slid over to the weapon he held. At least he suspected it was a weapon, but it was certainly not anything he had seen before.
Merope shook his head. He didn't have time for it! With a yell, Merope charged the Heartless before him.

Merope leaped at the creature and brought the weapon down, hissing as it clanged against the floor. So what he held was metal -- that was progress. But it didn't help the fact that there were things eating his things.
Merope swung his blade again.

Again the shadow-creature duck and slid beneath his sword, but not fast enough. The undead student let loose a "HA!" of victory as his sword clipped its edge.
Merope tried to recall how the reapers fought when he spied on watched them. Would moving it up and bringing it down be just as effective, he wondered?

Yes! The weird weapon-thing managed to clip the creature, but it was something.
Maybe if he tried with his other hand instead...?

The way the shadow shrieked as the blade cut through it brought a wide grin to Merope's face. No wonder reapers clung to their weapons if this was what it was like! He lunged forward and brought the sword down on another heartless creature as it attempted to devour his half-finished homework.

Merope hefted his sword and gave an experimental back-swing, wondering if it was possible to elicit another sound from the shadow if the front of it was cut first.

He managed to strike the creature before it shifted out from under him. Merope hissed and spun around, leveling the blade at it once more.

Entering
TG had been sleeping, but not a great sleep. Nestled in his big bed and hugging one of the many body pillows that had female demon printed on them, he grumbled and huffed. Usually his dreams had a lot more action and ladies in them, but this one had been very disappointing. This is probably what happened when you ate a entire bag of gummy worms before sleeping.
When he heard something, he woke up, tired and pouty as he put Veronica (the blonde tentacle woman's name that was printed on the pillow he was drooling on) and looked around. It was a sad state to admit that TG rarely had company in his room, and aside from his minipets, nothing ever stayed with him - especially overnight. (It's okay, Veronica, you're good for a sleeping buddy but just that.)
What he didn't expect was to see his Cycorgi barking up at what appeared to be rather impish in design. Thinking a relative was around, TG bolted up only to see said figure was not one of his kin - or even dressed for that matter. Blinking, he just started at it. "Uh.....did my dad send you?"
The creature instead went over, took a look at a game controller, and ate it.
"HEY! THAT'S MY EXPENSIVE STUFF!" He shouted, and climbed over his pillow pile to get off. He was stopped when another shadowling appeared out of the blue, much in the same way TG puffed from one place to another, and staggered back to see how similar in height they were. Holding a pillow as a shield, he looked around. "Annabel! Do something!" He cried, but the cockatrice was already squawking and trying to peek another shadowling away.
Seeing more and more, TG jumped off and grabbed his jacket before rushing to the dorm. "Annabel!" He called, and the cockatrice flew over. Opening the door, he rushed out. He had to find campus security quick!!
It was done. Merope looked around his room and beheld the strange weapon in his hand. It wasn't quite a sword, yet it wasn't... quite like anything else he had even seen, either.
And yet there was an unsettling feeling that rubbed his scales wrong. Armed with his new weapon in the proper hand, Merope left his room.
Then promptly proceeded to book it straight out of the dorms.
