He was getting tired. He couldn't help but wish he could hear--if only to listen to his own panting. Or speak--so he could curse. Roch definitely felt the urge to curse--this tower, the Voice, himself, yep, there was a whole list of things and people he could call bad names if he had a voice.

Whatever those two were doing to Nuk, Gargantuan didn't even want to know. He was amused though, and, unless Taima was particularly quick, he'd take her by the hand, still progressing one step at a time.
The Voice again. Funny--somehow he didn't feel that swayed by it this time. Just indifferent, and perhaps a little sad. I never existed at all. I'm the fake, remember? The other me's the real big guy.

This, too, was accepted in silence. She had not spoken since entering the Tower. What difference would this make? She walked through the door with the same resolve she had shown previously. It was no sacrifice, not when she had already silenced herself of her own will.

Mitsu nodded to Shun. She knew they had to keep going, she would keep going but everything was starting to ache. There was a pressure pushing against her but her new memories and realization of the world pushed her onward. She knew she couldn't give up.

It was getting harder and harder to climb, but Serafina refused to stop. The rest of her family was attempting to make it up to the very top, and so would she, no matter how much her legs ached.
When she heard The Voice again, she opened her mouth to laugh, but found that she couldn't, no vibrations in her throat no matter how hard she tried. Oh, right. She lost her voice on the adventure up here, and she would likely never get it back.
It wasn't important.
Remember your kingdom.
Serafina did remember what was left of her Kingdom--the Family, those who once called themselves people who followed the Blue King, The Boss. They no longer believed that there was a kingdom that they needed to kill and mine miasma for, but they did believe in each other, and perhaps, at this point, that was all that mattered.

Pain was nothing anymore. It fizzed against her mind and faded as she ignored it. Numbness was her world, after all. She had lost her Kingdom. She had lost everything. Pain would be discarded in short order.
All she wanted was the truth.
"Remember your Kingdom, and why you were created into this world. Without it you will be lost. Without it you will become discarded and thrown away. You are a fragment that I created. Without me, you will cease to exist in this world."

Roch spent the next twenty three steps wondering if his alternate version knew how to play that guitar he'd slung over his back.

 He slowed down some after that burst, not wanting to exhaust himself. There was no telling what was up there waiting for them all. It could very well be a fight. One hell of a fight for that matter. Sammy looked to Nuk pouting ever so playfully at him as he made the remark to bite him. As a matter of fact she would. Casually leaning over she stepped up beside him biting his neck before silently laughing, her voice made no sound as her body shook.

Serafina was falling a bit behind, but it didn't matter as she watched the shadows play with each other, making fun even without their voices or their ears. It was nice to see such cheer amoungst her own, even as they were facing what would ultimately be their ends.
At least they were facing their end together, and at least they would know ... together ... what had caused this. She was more and more determined to get up there, The Voice she heard mattering less and less the more she ventured onwards.
Nothing mattered but the answer.
It was that determination that made her steps faster, attempting to go to the head of The Family once again, guiding towards wherever the top of these seemingly infinite, draining stairs would lead.
Oh, how her legs hurt.
