"Well, I am not a god, so I do not like my past being shared with anyone if I can help it." Mala said with an obvious look of irritation. Besides, she didn't know whether or not Riley was concious enough in the body to hear what she was saying.

"What, was someone a bad little worshipper when they were younger? Is that it?" Van guessed. "Come on, my lips are sealed! I won't tell!"

Mala sighed deeply. "Did you honestly think I've always been a priestess? Many of the others were born and raised to be such, but not I. I was born a peasant, one who made a living doing manual labour every waking hour so that Riley could eat when our parents walked out on us. That's all I care to say. Can't you at let me stop at this?" she asked with a not-all-too-merry look in her eyes. In fact, she somehow seemed rather dismal.

Van saw the look in Mala's eyes. He may have been selfish, but he wasn't cold-hearted. "Fine." he said closing his eyes with a sigh. "Though you two seemed to be doing fine for a while there, you can probably take a break every now and then, you know?"

"Thank you." Mala offered a faint smile, relieved that he wasn't going to pressure her. She did, though, feel it necessary to point one thing out, "However, the whole reason why I don't have to do manual labour anymore and that I eat a healthy ammount is because the Temple of Atius took us in when no other would. You can't honestly blaim me for being thankful for such mercy."

"OOOHHHhhhh, okay. Gotcha." Van said before muttering something under his breath in frustration. "Lousy fatass gets a temple while I get squat. For all the blessings I give the scoundrels around here, I really get the short end o' the stick..."

Mala offered a simple smile before she silently lead the way out of the city and on to the roads through the wilderness. "We aren't going to camp in the forests, since they're dangerous. We'll either take a break at a remote inn somewhere along the road or we'll go without sleep." she warned once they were outside of the city.

"Are you kidding?! Like hell I'm going without sleep! I need my beauty rest dammit!" Van complained.

"Then I'll carry you as you sleep." Mala said simply enough. "Just don't blaim me if I'm not able to escape bandits quick enough for either of us to survive - or at least, quick enough to escape without me being raped and maimed in the process." She said bluntly, hoping to somehow scare Van - or Riley within - to comply with her.

Van just of grumbled and looked away in annoyance knowing she was right. "So do you have any idea where we're going, or are you just following the road hoping we hit a town soon?"

"I'm not positive, but I've heard that if we head north we'll arrive at a small dock-town called Arbelum. From there, we can properly restock and equip ourselves for the journey ahead. I would've done so in Atalus, but what is offered in the market place...sucks." Mala said. "I do say, however, that we shall not be remaining outside while in the docks during night."

((Ah, we all have those moments.))
"Good. Because at least the stupid ring was warm and safe from the elements." Van said as they trudged along.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Little did the pair know that a demon by the name of Jaquel had set up shop near Arbelum and essentially threatened his way into a position of leadership. He'd turned the mayors office into his lair, replaced the guards with his own imp and lower-demon forces, and maimed anyone that didn't pay high taxes or offer something else in return. Right now he was probably enjoying a glass of fine wine while being pampered by a pair of kidnapped slave girls.
"Yes, but it must've been lonely in there." Mala said, thinking back on what she heard of Van's tale. "Or was it? Because I seriously doubt you'd tolerate my presence as you do if you weren't trapped in there with only me to help you get your body back after so long if you weren't."
