I would like to make a movement for a Semi-literate rule. This would mean that grammer and spelling would not have to be perfect (although spellcheck should be a common courtesy, but we can't force that) but they should be close. I have been noticing that some of our members are not even trying to spell correctly, and I feel that people should atleast read over what they typed before they post it.

Well, I view this as more of a preferred thing, a common courtesy, as you said, but not nessicarily a requirement. I suppose so long as they are literate in thought and their meaning, not so much their spelling and grammar, then they should be good. But, then again, it would be awefully nice...

I must agree with Xenos Mortium, it's never been a requirement or approaching a fully literate guild. If members can't spell things correctly, then it's preferred not to hold it against them, as long as they can talk rationally. For the most part, members are spelling somewhat well, just that their grammar is lacking quite a bit on some. But I always just assumed that as long as their writing is understood without much effort on reading it, then it was fine. Basically, it's a common courtesy and we can't enforce something on people if their say dyslexic (sp?) for example, like one member in the past who was officially diagnosed dyslexic (sp?). Just hopefully members will keep the politeness we show them in the manner of spelling or at least trying to spell for the most part correctly.

I understand it cant be enforced, but people should atleast try to spell correctly. I myself am far from a perfect speller, and I dont always have time to boot up MSword and spellcheck, but I atleast try to spell correctly. Im sorry MunkiHunter, but im going to use you as an example. Quote: theres a mission in fallout tactics where you travle to the town of coldwater. there you meed this don who owns a caseno or something and he askes you to kill this chick, well if you kill her you find out shes a paladin udnercover doing ops spying on radier activity, well she is peranaly involved with the general not barnaky but the other good i forgot his mane you find out after the mission is over heh (I quoted this post not for its spelling mistakes, but because its the first post of MunkiHunters I could find) Im sorry, but travle? meed? caseno? askes? udnercover? Please, I dont mean to be a grammer natzi, and if im overstepping my boundaries ill shut up, but I think it isnt to much to ask that you read over what you typed before you post it.

Yes, it'd be nice for people to try to spell correctly and take that time to sort of check for any mistakes, I know I do each time I submit a post, but usually, I spell correctly for the most part and use grammar appropriately. But that's just because grammar and spelling is one of my strong points and don't expect everyone around me to look over their spelling. As for say MunkiHunter, I've been around him enough to know what he's saying without any harsh strain on understanding, spend quite a bit of time with someone, it doesn't matter how they spell or say something, the meaning rings true just the same. But there is some n00bs who talk like complete retards and their ages is say 18 for example, completely inexcusable since they don't even try, they try to act retarded to begin with to annoy people. But through my years, I've become accustomed to such grammar mistakes and people not caring about grammar, punctuation, and spelling very much on here and learned to deal with it. As for myself, I try to spell correctly around every turn to make sure my meaning comes through nice and strong, plus giving a strong professional look to my posts, which I aim for since my balance of respect hangs on such small things. If a leader typed like "heyz, my namez is Ender, jooz loks preddy badazz", yeah, won't really attract members or gain any respect. But I don't expect that out of anyone around me to try to type very well, some people may be great at spelling, but may lack in the skill of using a keyboard, which I've found very common in most cases, it all just depends, but once again, I've learned to deal with it. 3nodding

I definitely was able to read that correctly with no slowdown, I'm pretty used to people actually typing that bad in the past, that's why spelling errors don't mean that much to me coming from others. 3nodding

In my own defence i started rping and all online with i was 14 or so and 6 years later about the only thign that i can do better is type faster at the expence of well spelling mistakes in my mind it tends to make since but when you come home after a 9 hour shift of scrubbing algi out of fish tanks with a toothbrush and a algi pad ....heh well you tend not to give a ******** about what anyone thinks (no offence to anyone) basicly i ahve waht you call a durty job =)
anyway back to the point like i sad i just type fast look at the letter that was typed and move on regarless of what was spellt or whatnot not that im bithcing you used me as an example im actulay the worst poster in this guild i can accept that because i know its true i lack the use of any grammer hell i dont even capitlaise anything. but yes if you need an example goahead and use me =P
and in accordence to ferners post i read through that with ease, but honestly i tend to speed read picking up key words that lead to the point of the post, witch is why i tend to stray from reading long posts without breaks i cant proccess it information as well my eyes bounce from word to word and i ahve to force myself to read the whole thing...big pain in the a** but for soem reason thats they way my mind works =
