Padding along with Lanaea, Lin paused to watch Lanaea clear the desk.
"At the castle," Lin replied softly.

"Ah," Lanaea smiled, pulling up a stool for Lin and then sitting on another stool next to her. "Very nice. All right then, I'll send the messenger there for you once it's ready. Here." She picked up a pencil and paper and smiled at Lin. "Tell me what you would like. Your choice of shape, design, compartments, type of wood, finish, stain ... everything. Every last detail."

Sitting down Lin realized there was going to be a lot more to it than she would have ever realized. She also didn't know much about wood but had requested something in a deep shade with a stain that would make it sort of reddish brown.
Lin wasn't really a jewelery person so she had the large compartment normally used to keep rings, bracelets and other types of jewelery without any additional compartments. She figured something from childhood would go there (or if she could find a really small portable tea set).
She expressed the need for it to be long though, because what jewelery she had were her hair stick/sebon needles, and the traditional jade bracelet, they could be easily kept in a drawer together. Her only other piece of jewelery was the necklace she always wore, so the chances if it being put away wasn't really great.
Design was something that was all Lin, a part of herself she had given into a long time ago, butterflies, the only other thing she asked was if Lanaea could carve a set of characters if Lin wrote them, onto the lid and onto the drawer.
She had written them in large kanji so they could be copied, thankful for the use of a quill, a normal pen was too troublesome (and she hadn't used one ever).
"In our diversity we are strong; in our family we are one."
"A tree without roots falls over in the wind."
"I hope this isn't too much trouble." Lin murmured.

Lanaea was intrigued by the strange characters, and she smiled brightly at Lin, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Not at all," she said warmly. "This looks like it will be fun to make ... this should only take a day or two. And with the materials ..."
She trailed off and began writing figures down the margin of the page, muttering to herself as she did so, labeling the numbers with only a letter or two. Then she turned back to Lin and smiled. "Twenty three gold for material, six for labour, total of twenty nine gold. I never take payment in advance, so when it is delivered to the castle just send the payment back with the messenger. Does that sound fair to you?"

Lin nodded at this, she had been wondering about that, but this would work as well.
"That's fine with me," she agreed.
The thought of such a box made her giddy, it had been a while since she had felt like that over an object Lin mused to herself.

"Excellent," Lanaea smiled. "Then I'll get started on it right away."
She paused, glancing at the other customers that were in the shop. "Er ... after I've dealt with them," she laughed. "I'll be right back." And she headed off to speak with the other customers, who were waving to get her attention.
Amora had been standing with Sir Gilead, but now that Lin was alone, she smiled and moved to stand with her instead. "Well?" she asked eagerly.

Lin giggled sheepishly she really hadn't been expecting to get anything, but honestly she couldn't help it, the compartments, the carving, and just the sheer idea of having an additional hidden compartment was interesting to her.
"I'm excited," Lin admitted, "It was fun and interesting planning it all out, there were a lot more choices to make than I realized. It's going to be a long box, but that's because I use hair sticks sometimes."

Amora couldn't help but laugh at Lin. Older she might be (physically), but she was acting as excited as a child expecting a gift.
"Are you getting a secret compartment in it?" she asked eagerly. "I know you were pretty excited about seeing that in the one on the shelf earlier."

Lin nodded at that, "I am, that is how the conversation started."
She grinned, she had no idea what she was going to keep in this box, but she was sure she would figure it out when the time came.
"It was fun... the planning."

Amora giggled. "You looked like you were having fun," she grinned. "And I'm sure that it will turn out exactly as you asked, Lanaea is the most skilled carpenter in the city - if not the entire Eastland."
She paused. "Not that that's hard, there's not much wood to work with in the Eastland, and only one or two other places where people even live. Still, her skill is great."
Sir Gilead chuckled. "Very true. I know most brothers like to brag about their sisters, but in my case I believe I have every reason."
Amora grinned at Lin. "She did all of the furniture for the castle," she explained, "a fact of which Sir Gilead likes to constantly remind the other guards."

Lin chuckled at that, that would be a very good reason to brag just a bit. Though when she thought about it, the time it must have taken to do all of the furniture for the castle sounded daunting.
She giggled at that, "Yes that's a very good reason to do so."
The reputation though was well earned, from what Lin saw.
"Which reminds me... you asked something about puzzle boxes before Lanaea came over?"

Sir Gilead glanced at the window and touched Amora lightly on the shoulder, and Amora followed his gaze and frowned.
"We have to be getting back," she murmured. "Come, let's say goodbye to Lanaea and then you can tell me about them on our way home, it will be dinner already ..."
Though she knew her mother would expect them late (having Sight and all) that didn't give them an excuse to be even later.

Lin blinked and checked the window as well, it didn't seem like it was that late, but after what Elros had said about the sun and time she supposed she shouldn't have been too surprised.
"Time flies...." Lin murmured softly before turning to find Lanaea so they could say good bye.

Out of the corner of her eye, Lanaea saw that the others were preparing to leave, and she excused herself from her customers for a moment and made her way over to them.
"It's that time, isn't it?" she murmured wistfully, her blue eyes sad.
Amora nodded slowly. "We're already late," she said apologetically.
Lanaea smiled wistfully and nodded back. "Then until I see you again," she said warmly, bowing her head respectfully. "Princess Amora. Lin."

"Until next time, it was wonderful meeting you," Lin replied.
She did wish they could stay longer but that wasn't going to be possible, well maybe she'll come again later. Then again she already foresaw herself coming again at least once... to the inn of course so maybe....
