Kai breathed a sigh of relief as Nausicaa blinked back to consciousness. Woo, that had given him quite a scare. D.D.? He knew what D.I.D. was, but not what D.D. was. Maybe she meant the same thing? He couldn't be sure. Still, he stood from the ground and brushed his knees off. "Oh, good, at least you're all right. I never leave a soldier behind." He gave a salute before helping the other to her feet in case she was still a little shaky. And now it was time for lunch! His favorite period! Well, next to theater. Okay, so his second favorite. It was still up there at the top, and he still had an achin' for some bacon. He giggled at his mental rhyme before heading in the general direction of the cafeteria. Seriously, even if he didn't know where it was, his nose would lead him. It was that potent. Or maybe he was just that hungry. Whatever. Food. Now.

"Oh, right, I was gonna ask if that dance class you take counts for a PE credit. I think I might be interested in switching over if it is. Cause, man, I can cut a rug," he joked, totally not meaning it. He had two left feet. He probably had three, actually. Oh, whatever. He sucked, and that's all that mattered. Two flights of stairs later and they were at the large cafeteria. Which line? There was the chicken sandwich line, and then there were two other hot meal lines, the aforementioned hot meal changing depending on the day. Then there was the vending machine and the health food fridge, which had salads and stuff. Ew. No, Kai wanted a chicken burger with fries, and he wanted it now. He immediately got in that line, wondering which line Nausicaa would choose. This just meant he could learn something new about her! Food was a tricky subject with a lot of people. Most people were really picky, but Kai was just sort of like 'I don't care what it is so long as it's food.' He'd get a water bottle from the vending machine after he got his other food items. He preferred getting food from the chicken sandwich line because they didn't give him a tray, just the little paper bag that held his fried, juicy piece of heaven. Oh, and the fries, which came in a little paper basket. In the other lines you got a tray, which you had to clean and put back before you left. It was much more practical just to throw the little paper food containers in the trash and be on your way, he figured.

"So, where do y'wanna eat?" he asked nonchalantly, assuming they'd eat together. There were tables, though they filled up pretty fast. And if your table had free seats, then the creepy nerdy people tended to occupy them. Kai didn't have anything against the nerdy crowd — Lord knew he wasn't exactly Mr. Mercedes Benz — but some of them were nerdy and just... well, gross. And those were the ones that tended to flock at the ends of tables. So he usually avoided them. The next choice was the ground against the wall, near the stairs. Good for a close-knit group, but it was just him and Nausicaa. Or there was outside, which had many different choices: the steps, free tables, car hoods, curb, sidewall, anywhere, really. If you could scale the building, he figured it was probably fine to eat there, too. Not that it was particularly safe, but it would be an exhilarating experience. Wait, why was he thinking about this? Oh, yeah, Nausicaa. Eating. Food.
