As Val'atar's glowing red lines of eyes narrowed down at her, she returned the death glare as intensely as she could from her rather disadvantageous position a good three hands (as those were the only measurement she was really all that familiar with) below the half fiend, who looked even more imposing with the horns sprouting out of his head and wings curled at his sides. She could really care less though. He could be a full sized red dragon glaring down at her and she wouldn't budge. She mouthed at him now that he was staring at her. 'yes I slapped you What are you going to do about it.'

Of course she had to egg him on. She was the stupid one, remember? She felt that crack into her skull, same as the fish. She wasn't expecting it from Val'atar of all people, and apparently, neither was he, really. She flinched hard, twitching in her extremities for a few seconds as she grit her teeth to keep from crying out and exposing this IDIOT'S new little trick. Everything would be ruined if the imbeciles in the room knew that Val'atar had become even MORE powerful. They already didn't trust him enough. "I didn't even clip you hard, big baby. Forgot we're on the same side did ya." She hissed through gritted teeth, stomping after him with the occasional slight twitch. She flung her glare over at Revian and growled something unintelligible, settling for just flipping off the spider kisser without so much as looking at him. Not only was he a spider kisser, but he was an a** kisser. That was even worse.

As she turned Val'atar's back into a pin cushion with all of the metaphorical daggers flying out of her eyes she still couldn't help but feel a twinge of worry. He'd never answered her if he was alright or not...

Valthier just grunted grumpilly, and continued to examine the area, taking in all the features. choke points, potential avalanche zones, ledges and other dangerous points, walls and corners to avoid being surrounded.... yes, this area was surprisngly advantagous to the Au'Shinduagoans if an ambush or sudden raid was initiated here. The vampire was very uncomfortable about the group's proximinty to the army though.

"seth," he whispered. "can you stand?"

"What's going on up there?" Chalthara asked the soldier nearest her. "Do I hallucinate, or is there movement?"

The man narrowed his eyes as if she'd said something completely strange, heretical, or stupid. Definitely not the expression one wanted to hold when in front of the drow..."There's been m --"

"I mean purposeful movement, you fool!" Her eyes burned with a dangerous ferocity as she rounded on the man, an interesting sight seeing as he dwarfed her. "Something's happening on those walls and I want to know what it is."

"You are correct, my lady. Something transpires, the likes of which I cannot tell," said the resident captain, shooting his leader an apologetic glance for the sass of his own underling. "A group is approaching the gates -- that is all I have been able to decipher."

Chalthara nodded. "Good." A pause followed, in which she straightened her posture and took a deep breath. "We shall go and meet them. Be on your guard and say nothing."

Without consulting the captian and his men further, she set off with purposeful strides towards the gate; or at least as close as she could get without invoking the wrath of the Shadow Guard. She figured that if anyone really wanted to talk, they would not have the aforementioned Vhaeraunites try to kill her. If something was to go...awry, the army was near enough to muster itself while the guards sacrificed themselves for her. They were valorous sorts; a good type to have around if you wanted unquestioning loyalty that might result in death.

What she would say to the nobles of the city, she did not know. Her teacher had certainly gotten off on the wrong foot with them, and she doubted that the anger caused by his insults would be healed easily. She would have to be exceedingly careful in everything she said if she didn't want to die where she stood.

The former priestess smiled. What an interesting little challenge.

Reivan caught the glare and was honestly confused, with a sigh he followed after the others, staying near the back, observing, as Valthier was, any ambush points or natural advantages but he was thinking from the enemies point of view, "how many of those stalactites and ledges hold enemy archers.." he whispered before picking up his pace to catch up.

Erelala watched as the council formed near her on the ramparts. Turning she dismissed the looks of many of the Shadowed giving a silent command for them to keep watch.

Her eyes moved over Val'atar seeing and sensing something that wasn't quite right with him, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Something had changed and she would find out soon enough. Quickly her piercing gaze caught and took in the others as well. Aside from being slightly disoriented looking nothing seemed amiss, to her.

Sashaying her way toward the others she gave her long tresses a flip of her hand. The sword upon her hip accenting its curve as she assessed each of them. Erelala knew she had to move a bit quickly in order to reach Val'atar, though most of what had been going on wasn't all too exciting, she was still determined to find out the council's decision.

-While walking down the steps, Val'atar chuckles and answers in his typical silken voice-
"I forgot nothing my dear Mercenary, merely reminding you that everything is cause and effect. As for your question Revian.. roughly 100 or so, but that doesn't take into account those who could move to those positions within moments."

-As they reach the bottom of the stairs, he glances to Erelala, giving her a reassuring nod before his gaze flicks to Kal'daka.. the fingers of his partially hidden right hand spelling out 'Worry not for me' before he turns and opens the gate, striding out into the large courtyard beyond where the army of the enemy laid in wait.

His sanguine gaze flickers over the faces of the soldiers arrayed before him, pausing to linger on the female who approached before continuing in search of Izaran. Not seeing the Devil, Val'atar narrows his gaze slightly and moves out to receive the younger leader of this war band, a taunting smile spreading across his lips as he approaches her, ignoring her accompanying troops-

"I must assume.. as you are still here, that you seek to surrender to our obvious power and request mercy for the lives of yourself and your men?"

Watching the display with Kal'daka, he became slightly puzzled, 'What fool would raise their hand is such a way?' is thought to himself. To take such action could easily get one killed. But this one didn't even give it a second thought, and then went on to lecture Val'atar with such insults as tossing around 'Whining' very loosely. Ether she was a damned fool...or brave with close connections to Val'atar...Dealing with that one may be more difficult that previously believed.

He followed Val'atar, his eyes leaving him only to look over the opposing troops. Even with his request to Val'atar not answered, he still followed as close as he could without being uncomfortable. He was mostly of his interest came from wanting to see just how Val'atar would handle ether of the two possible outcomes.

His attention turned after Val'atar addressed a member of the enemy army. Rather than show attention for the army when looking away, this time he looked back at the city. He had some form of feeling, an annoying feeling telling him that something was ether happening, or was going to happen that he wanted to be there for. Shaking his head a little, he tried to flush off the feeling. He returned his mind to the matter at hand, and just how he was going to get at least some fresh meat, war or no war. "An interesting city...interesting indeed...", he whispered to himself.

valthier saw lymrin's expression subtly changed, and hazarded a guess. he smirked and whispered to him "not everyone is a kissass you know..." regardless of whether or not his guess was correct, he found it funny. it was a ood release to his own stress as well.

He suddenly formed a smile, something about his one pleased him, he was much more...inviting that the others, "Clearly, but I am rather...sheltered, so to speak. It's rare I see such actions, and even more rare I see one live to make the same actions in the future. It seems you have heard word of my, and I know some of you, but I have yet to give you a proper greeting. I am Lord Llmryn Val' Rilyniryn, I'm sorry for such a late proper introduction."

"And merely reminding you that the pecking order of the city isn't the only one that matters." She hissed to the half fiend next to her, the twitching spells finally starting to work themselves out in one last good shudder. "Just remember I have employment matters to discuss with you later." She'd been the first one at the meeting, last one out, and Val'atar had already stated that the Shadow Guard was standing behind house Druu'giir. There was no way for anyone present to assume anything other than hammering out her own payment and not the fiend's new and unpredictable alliances... among other things now up in the air. The man was up to something, and he might be up to something that could upset the delicate balance he'd fought so long and so hard to create. Normally, she wouldn't vest such an interest into the life and health of one man, but she depended on both her alliance with his house and himself in general to keep her men alive and to take Au Shinduago back from the clutches of the Dead Queen.

"Don't have so many archers myself, no mages, just front line fighters... I'm smelling a trap though... Has to be. No general in their right of MIND would march all their men right into this area." She noticed herself getting a little antsy and pulled out a cigarette, polite enough to blow the smoke to the back of her instead of in anyone's faces. Most drow weren't used to it whatsoever and just started hacking.

She practically had to jog to keep up with Val'atar and ahead of the pack of imbeciles behind her. Why did the fiend bring the book worm again? This was a formal war declaration. They didn't need Llmryn's bullshit, and she was hoping someone would shove their fist, or some other gag-on-able body part, into his pretty mouth so she wouldn't have to hear all of his brown-nosing. She looked off to the side as Val'atar spoke, tugging on her overcoat and sabers. There Valthier and Llmryn were, standing in front of an enemy general, flirting with each other or something. Insults. That's what they both were. Harou'd love'em both to death. She fought back her sneer while in front of the opposing commander, straightening herself out a bit again and never breaking eye contact.

At least she could tell which factions were serious, and which she should hit first.

Shrugging his cape around to hide his arms, he reached into the red blotches on his flesh and pulled the two weapons from the magical hiding places, a slight grimace crossed his face from the unfamiliarity of the new weapons. His right foot shifted wide and to the back slightly for a balancing stance and he waited. Keeping a ken ear of what was begin said. as shift in the shadows along the walls made him move next to Kal. nudging her foot with his he shot a glance at the area hoping she'd catch on.

She felt the tap on her foot, looked down, and then ignored it. He wasn't signing to her, and she wasn't going to say a word in front of the enemy soldiers. She'd seen the walls. They were likely Val'atar's pet shades. Whenever Vhaeraun was giving her some sort of sign, it had a different... feel... to it.

Chalthara looked up (quite a ways) at Val'atar and seemed undaunted; brow smooth and lips set in a determined line. Despite her youth, she knew how to keep a cool head in times of immeasurable stress. With a mother and sister as...exlosive as hers, her powers of observation had maintained a healthy balance of emotions within the highest echelon of House Kenrahel. Now those skills would serve her equally well as the leader of the vanished Izaran's army.

Even she didn't know where her teacher was. Something about that made her very uneasy. If Val'atar found out that she was now the leader, would he take advantage of that fact by posing harsher terms for surrender or sending more troops to just wipe hers out.

After what seemed like an eternity, she swallowed her well hidden fears and spoke.

"Your puissance and that of your city is evident, Patron Druu'giir," she said evenly, with a slight and respectful inclination of the head, "But I am here to speak as my Master failed to do, not surrender. There has been a misunderstanding."

Indeed, she wished to convince Val'atar that this was not an invasion, that Izaran had sent his troops to Matron Eclavice as a token of good faith, a dowry for her daughter, and a way of protecting her house as well as Au Shinduago should war arise. They had never expected to be stuck outside the city and deemed hostile.

Chalthara motioned for the guards around her to ease their tension. The presence of Val'atar had set them on edge, and they looked quite a bit more menacing than she thought guards should. They were not a party of attackers, but a group of loyal soldiers accompanying their commander while she engaged in parley with the enemy.

In the silence that followed, Chalthara took note of the others that had gathered, slightly behind their leader. They didn't look like ordinary guards akin to the ones who had come with her. No -- they seemed more regal perhaps. She suspected that they were his lieutenants or something of the sort, or at the very least powerful citizens. They were muttering amongst themselves in a most bothersome fashion, though. Did the not have interest enough in the meeting at hand to be silent?

She was in the company of surface folk. She should understand the tongue, and her guards should know what was being said. "That's not how things work, girl. That's never how things work. The general's bullshitting you. If you bring an army into a city that's not hostile, you clear it with the lord of the city-" She motioned to Val'atar- "first. Get permission, get everything cleared, and then march them in. There's already been an honest misunderstanding of the sort once within these walls, while Izaran was a member of this city, and there have since been agreements in place to ensure the sort will never happen again. In my humble professional opinion, he gave you false orders." This girl believed what she was saying. You couldn't bullshit a bullshitter.

"Not to mention both I, and several of my men, witnessed him acting hostile to a few members of the city out in public. Your adopted daughter, right Valthier?" She looked over at the chatty vampire, taking the opportunity to glare at him. "As captain of Au Shinduago's primary mercenary faction-sorry Revian, I was working as one first-I demand to speak directly with the commander of this army, which most assuredly is not you. I will go out on a limb and say that the other nobles of this town would wish the same." Her tone was sharp and steady as she presented her case. The poor girl had to have been duped... and/or dumped... into the sticky situation she was in now, and was just trying to make the best of it. How many times had she found herself in a similar predicament?

When she twisted around to look at the men behind her, she made sure to keep her back to Val'atar and not the deemed hostile guards. Kal'daka snapped back around to stare down the girl. She had a feeling the traitorous dog had fled with his tail between his legs, leaving this greenie in charge. She hoped the girl was more intelligent than the man who had left the reins of an unbroken stallion in her hands and would just turn the men over to be escorted away from the city. She, for one, did not hold Izaran and Eclavice's acts of treason over this girl's head.
