Luk smiled at Miyuki and put one hand on her head. "Come on, the candy shop is next door," he pointed it out to her. "I think your father really wants some candy, he's already waiting for us."
Earendil was indeed standing by the door of the sweet shop, holding the door open and watching the two of them and clearly doing his best not to look impatient.

Lin was standing beside him trying her best not to laugh at her beloved. Who knew he had such a sweet tooth? Maybe she should bring some candy from Gaia to tease him with.
Actually that thought appealed to her on many levels.
"Okay!" Miyuki remembering once more there was candy to be had, whirled around and hurried on through the door into the candy shop.

They spent quite a bit of time in the candy shop, as Earendil seemed to take quite a while in choosing the piece of candy he wanted to eat. As always, they limited themselves to one piece each - safe and inexpensive - and he wanted to make sure he had a good one.
After their time in the city, they headed back to the castle, and over the course of the next two seasons, they spent time in the city, with those at the castle, and together. Slowly but surely, the construction of the city was completed, and at last the day arrived when it became apparent that the day of departure for the visitors was drawing near.
Preparations were made, and Earendil, realizing that they would probably be gone before Miyuki graduated to a real blade, bought the earring she wanted so badly - but kept it hidden away, for when the time was right. Luk bought a small but beautiful bag and had Rhea rune it for him, as did Elros and Alena, considering that Alena alone had close to thirty thousand years' worth of belongings to take with her.
Adonai and Shael decided to stay for a while longer, though they gave Cindy the option to stay or to return with the others: they would fly back with Aurin when they were ready.
Vergil didn't seem to care much either way, though he now that he was used to his new size, he talked almost non-stop about learning how to use a sword from Ulrich.

Several things changed in the course of lessons for Miyuki during those two seasons. It was obvious to anyone she understood and spoke common elvish quite well and even her ancient tongue was very decent. Probably a combination of being raised with it from a young age and the fact she was a stage grower.
This allowed Lin to drop the verbal lessons (seeing as it was the language being used). It also allowed her to ask Earendil if he wanted to join in on lessons for Chinese. Japanese seemed to come naturally to Miyuki and she strongly suspected it might be the kitsune part of her daughter.
There never seemed to be enough hours in a day to make sure Miyuki received all the lessons she needed to travel the world. It didn't help that the little girl became fascinated by the flute. The agreement was if she talked to Haldia or Amarliahc in Ancient Tongue for at least an hour a day she would be allowed to take up the flute.
Fortunately this seemed to be more of a hobby, which meant no lessons from Lin (she didn't know how to play) and it was something Miyuki did in her spare time. Which seemed to be dwindling at times.
Miyuki oddly enough didn't seem to mind all the lessons. Languages made her like Mommy and Daddy, and there was always a practical reason for this. She also liked to play with numbers, and going into the market provided some practical use in numbers. Writing in her journal and the letters to her grandparents allowed her to practice her writing without it seeming redundant. Lin, while wanting to teach Miyuki the history, only did so when Miyuki wanted to know why something existed the way it did, because otherwise the girl would be having lessons forever.
Storytime became sort of like history time, because it was the only time Lin could think of.
The only lessons that Miyuki never became comfortable with was her blade work. She was fine with hand to hand combat, and in fact would have been very happy if that was all she did. The blade never worked all that well for her, even though she tried her hardest. She didn't know why either, her mommy she knew had one, and so did her ada. It just, never appealed to her.
By the time the two seasons passed, Miyuki didn't feel she wasn't getting all that far with it. She couldn't think much on it though as it was time to go home soon.
Cindy was far too interested in the herbs and recipes the island had to offer, she was more than happy to stay as long as Adonai and Shael were willing. Even if it meant that Vergil would have to wait for sword lessons a bit longer.

One evening, at dinner, Aerin had an announcement to make.
"The city is complete," she told everyone, standing before them, a gleam in her eye. "Our nation has finally been made whole. Tomorrow, there will be a great celebration in the city, a festival - and tomorrow night, a feast for the entire nation!"
Immediately, Vergil turned to Cindy, eyes wide. "We're going to that, right, Mother?" he asked hopefully.

Cindy nodded with a smile, "Yes, we will be, I suspect everyone else will be as well."
It was no small thing celebrating the rebuilding of a nation. No doubt there would be a lot of celebrating.
Miyuki though was curious, "What is a festival like?"
She had heard about them, but only from Gaia and she would assume they would be different (since so much else was).

"Well, Miyuki," Aerin smiled widely, "there has not been a festival here in my whole lifetime, so I can't tell you. Oh, I can say there will be games and music and dancing and food, but I can't tell you anything beyond that. The proclamation was made today in the city as well, so perhaps the people themselves will surprise us with something unexpected."
Earendil grinned at Miyuki. "A day of no lessons, and nothing but fun."

Miyuki had to think about that, that sounded like fun. Especially the games part, since she had never danced before. No lessons sound especially interesting because it had to be really special to have no lessons.
"That does sound like fun!" she decided.

Earendil chuckled. "Good. Then after dinner, it's wash up and straight to bed so that you don't sleep in tomorrow! You don't want to miss it, I'm sure."
"Does that mean I have to go straight to bed, too?" Vergil asked Cindy, the corners of his mouth turned downward. "I'm not tired yet."

Miyuki looked at her mommy because she knew her mommy slept at different times.
"What about mommy?" she asked.
"Mommy will join you later," Lin replied looking to Earendil.
Having Miyuki go to bed a bit earlier than usual was good for the both of them.
Even Cindy seemed to get the idea, "Well if you want to be up on time so you can see everything, you should..."

Vergil pouted. "But you'll wake me up in time anyways, won't you, Mother?" he pressed. "You won't let me sleep into breakfast, you never do ..."
She always made sure he was up in time for whatever the day had in store for him - especially now that there was so much more that he was able to do.
Earendil smiled at Lin, his eyes soft. It was rare that they had time to themselves, and he looked forward to every moment of it.
"But of course," he added, looking down at Miyuki now, "we do have to finish our meal first. So eat up, Miyuki, and tomorrow we will celebrate."

"Yes but you'll be tired in the morning, how can you enjoy it if you're tired?" Cindy pointed out.
And she could only imagine how much to do there was going to be tomorrow.
Miyuki looked between her parents, shrugged and continued eating. She knew that look, it was the mushy look her parents gave each other. It meant they wanted to spend time together since for some silly reason they couldn't be in the same bedroom.

In the end, Vergil agreed to go to bed right after dinner, and almost everyone ended up going to bed early.
When morning came, it was a bright, sunny day outside, perfect for a celebration. Earendil was up with the sun, and very quickly set about getting dressed. He put on his best clothes - a day of celebration was a good reason for dressing up, was it not? - and then, a purse at his belt full of coins intended to spoil Lin and Miyuki all throughout the day, he headed over to their room to see if they were awake.

"Don't forget this mommy!" Miyuki held up the rose that Earendil had made for Lin back on that faithful visit to the Borderlands.
Lin decided to dress well in her long robes, something she hadn't taken out since that tea date. Miyuki had pointed out it was a special day so they should dress up.
In which Lin asked what about Miyuki, because since out growing her own clothes they hadn't bothered to get new formal wear. It seemed her little girl was quick on the uptake as she said she always dressed up.
This was kind of true, most Gaian little girls only dressed up as princesses, Miyuki dressed like this normally.
"Thank you," Lin murmured as she set it in her hair, "Now come here, since your great-grandmother decided to give me all those hair decorations we might as well use them on someone who can actually use them."
Miyuki sat her butt down onto the bed, letting her mommy comb out her ever growing hair. Unlike her mommy, she liked long hair.
"Why don't you grow out your hair?"
"I find it far too troublesome to deal with long hair," Lin murmured as she set Miyuki's hair in a half bun and decorated with hair sticks.

Earendil could hear voices on the other side of the door, and he knew that Lin and Miyuki were awake; and with a smile, he raised one fist and knocked gently on the door.
