Once the designated five minutes had expired, Emcee Lillian darted out onto the stage, beaming a smile at both Riza and her Sneasel, and David and his Wartortle. "What an exciting Round 2 battle! It's unfortunate that only one of these coordinators will move on to Round 3 - the exciting semi-finals! And that winning coordinator is... by only a tiny handful of points - it's Riza! Riza and her outstanding Sneasel are headed to the semi-finals!"
Lillian whooped and clapped her hands, leading the audience in a roar of applause and cheering. When they finally started to calm down, she gestured to the widescreen monitor, which now displayed the four remaining coordinators and how they would match up. The first semi-final pairing was Jerome versus Hannah, and the second match would pit Riza against Crenu. Lillian looked to the crowd once more. "Remember, folks! The winners of these two battles will go on to the finals, with the winner of that match taking home the Gold Cerulean Ribbon and the loser taking home Silver. The two coordinators that do not make it to the finals will have a consolation match to determine Bronze. Now, first up is Hannah and Jerome!"
The Emcee cleared the stage for the two coordinators as their respective pictures appeared on the monitor. Each were given a full set of points, and five minutes appeared on the clock. "Go!" she shouted, and the clock began ticking down. Jerome didn't hesitate to send out his Cacturne, while Hannah released her Wigglytuff; both Pokemon having cleared round two relatively quickly for their respective coordinators. ((This gives Riza and Crenu a few posts to get a few things done before their round starts. :3 ))
=-=-=-=-= Cynthia couldn't help but chuckle at the slew of questions that Jason threw her way as they walked. "Yes," she answered, nodding slowly. "As the Champion, I have many duties around Sinnoh, even though many of them are really just for show, like ground-breaking ceremonies and the like. I do help to protect the region as much as I can, though for a major responsibility like that, I rely on help from the Elite Four and the Gym Leaders, as well as other good-hearted trainers. I even served as an unofficial bodyguard of sorts for Professor Rowan when he visited the Hoenn region," she explained. Talking as they walked definitely made the trip shorter, and it wasn't long before they reached their destination. "Pick whatever you like," she told her young friend, smiling. "It's on me, as long as you call me Cynthia, and not Cynth-something."
She then thought about what Jason had said about his Magnemite, Zeus, as she set some money down on the counter to pay for Jason's ice cream. "You're probably right about the overabundance of electricity in the city. Jubilife is the biggest city in all of Sinnoh, so naturally the occurrence of electricity is quite high. While it's possible that your Magnemite is overstimulated because of this, it's also possible that he's suffering from an electrical build-up. I'm not a complete specialist when it comes to Electric-types, but I do know that if they accumulate too much electrical energy inside their bodies, it can have adverse effects. For instance, some Electric-types experience cold-like symptoms, while others become extremely aggressive. It also might cause strange, erratic behavior, like you just described. I suggest attempting to remove as much of the excess electricity as possible, and seeing if it helps to calm Zeus down."

"Nidoran, use your peck attack," Nate called out to his Pokemon who rushed towards Zor with it's horn pointing right at it. The battle was almost over, seeing that Isa's Sentret was already knocked out by Zor's Vacuum Wave before she could even call a command, while Sel was returned to make the battle mor fair as a one on one.
"Hold your ground and then use the quick attack," Peine called to his Scyther, who held out his arm-scythes, using them to tone down the damage of the peck attack that hit Zor, moving the Pokemon back. Zor then shot up in a green blur, and the quick attack hit Nidoran, knocking the Pokemon on it's back.
"I have to say Nate, you're better then I expected, though you're not good enough," Munro said to Nate. "Vacuum wave Zor, finish it!!" Zor swung one of his scythes infront of him making a brown blade of energy flying straight towards the Nidoran.
"Get up and use poison sting quickly," Nate yelled at his Nidoran. Nidoran was barely able to get up, though was able to use the poison sting to counter the vacuum wave midair, making a mini explosion knocking both Pokemon back again.
'This is getting to much for Zor, though I have to give him confidence in battle before anything...c'mon Zor, you can get through this,' Munro thought as he thought of what may be the last attack of the battle. "Quick attack," he called out as Zor, who was having a bit of trouble to get up was already trying to pick up speed in order to make the attack happen.
"Use tackle Nidoran," Nate called out to his Pokemon, who was having more trouble getting up than Zor. Then for seconds, it felt that time stopped, that nothing could be heard, with all eyes glued on the two Pokemon, both of them struggling to use there attacks. Though the only difference is that Zor was starting to go at a faster pace with every step, trying to get a quick attack off. About ten feet away from Nidoran, Zor was only halfway towards full speed, though it was good enough to take out Nidoran who was just getting on its feet. Knocked back down, the Nidoran was knocked out, not being able to get up.
A look of relief came to Peine's face after he knew he won. The battle went from a nuisance to an actual training session. "Return Zor," he said as he took out the ParkBall that held Zor and returned the Mantis Pokemon who was very tired. "Now, I think you owe me some money for winning, and I also have a right to pass," Peine said, to Nate, who relucktantly gave money to Peine. The boy waved to everybody, who was still in shock that Peine pulled off that win, as he continued his way towards New Bark Town.

"Eh? Are you sure? Hee hee, you're a nice person." Jason said with a beaming smile as Cynthia offered to pay for his ice cream. He wasn't one to turn down an offer, especially one like this, and wasted no time placing his order. A triple scoop ice cream cone, chocolate cookie dough and pistachio, which after ordered even Jason thought was an odd combination. But it didn't matter, ice cream was ice cream and those were his favorite flavors. As the clerk took the money Cynthia had put down and handed Jason the cone, he grinned ear to ear as he started on the scoops. "Mmm, you're right Cynthia this is really good ice cream. Even if your duties are just for show it's still cool being the strongest trainer in the region. Like seriously, you're a super hero or something. Hee hee, when I become a great professor I hope I get a cool body guard like you." Some day Jason would become a great pokemon researcher, maybe he would become the head professor of a region some day too. Some day long long away though, Oak and the professor known as Rowan were pretty old. Then again Professors Birch and Elm weren't that old but still they were a lot old er than he was.
Jason continued to eat his ice cream, licking the sides as it started to melt listening to Cynthia's wisdom. Having his hypothesis validated by the champion made him chuckle stupidly as he felt kinda cool, but he became more serious as she continued with her explanation. "Hmm, electrical build up? Mmm that makes sense. Maybe it's one or the other, or even both. Maybe the abundance of electrical and magnetic signals being broadcast through the air are messing with Zeus's senses as well as filling him with too much power. Magnemite are said to feed on electricity after all and one of the last things he did was latch onto a power box...I guess he just couldn't help himself and has absorbed too much power. I guess Zeus isn't strong or experienced enough to deal with this kind of exposure. Hmm, it's still just a theory but with your input I think we may have figured this one out. When the chance presents itself I'll have to let Zeus discharge all of his power into Atlas. Since he's a ground type...ZzzzZZzz" Suddenly mid sentence Jason fell into a deep sleep. His face planted directly into his ice cream cone making it splatter all over. It was so sudden one would think him stricken dead, but his healthy snoring told otherwise as he breathed in deep in his ice cream. "ZzZZzzzzZZz"

Jett remained silent as ever for the time being, stare fixated on the ground though his eyes flickered back up to Totodile and his new companions every few seconds.
"Sounds good," he finally murmured, nodding a little to further emphasize his agreement. Though his mouth did pull downwards in a slight frown at the notion of so many options; for all he knew, Scarlet would want to go to Goldenrod, Jasper to Ecruteak, while he wanted to go to Azalea. Would they part so easily with that?
But getting used to meeting new people and leaving some of them behind was necessary, considering the usual trainer lifestyle. He'd be grateful for the time now with his friends, and that would be that. He couldn't help what happened in the future.
"Should we get going, then?" the raven-haired boy asked after another moment, eyes flickering hesitantly back up to Jasper before switching to Scarlet. His fingers brushed against the Pokeballs attached to his belt, but he wasn't sure who would be best to let out. Aerosmith would be constantly angry, River would still be angry for the gender confusion, and Athena seemed to frighten Totodile and generally everyone.
He needed more personable Pokemon on his team, that was for sure.

"One full restore please," Peine said to a Pokemon Center Nurse in the PokeCenter of Cherrygrove City, to an extent still in shock at what Zor had to go through in order to defeat that Nidoran. 'If I had Sel in that fight, would've won a lot easier. Though Zor needed the training. Well, this was a good experiance for both Zor and I then,' Munro thought as he waited to get Zor and Sel back from the healing machine.
After about a minute more of waiting, the nurse came up to Peine and said, "All done sir." She handed the ParkBall and PokeBall that held Peine's Pokemon to the young trainer, which he took out of her hands and placed in his hat.
"Thank you miss," he said to her as he got up and headed onto rotue 29, the last route of the day to NewBark Town. It was already starting to get late though, the sun already starting to set over a set of mountains in the distance. Peine looked up to the mountains, saying to himself, "I wonder what Pokemon live in those mountains...maybe I can find out one day..." Seeing that time was limited for travel and it was only getting darker sooner, Peine continued east onto route 29 hoping that his journey for a Pokedex was almost over.

The two of them stared out at the setting sun that cast long shadows over the rocky path before them. It seemed like Robin had a bit of a way to go before she made it to the next town. That wasn't even her last stop for the night either! Boy Tony Tony had been right when he said it was going to be a long night for her.
"Well Robin this is where we part ways." Ampersand interrupted the silence with a small grin on his face. Reaching out he ruffled Robin's hair under his hand before shoving her forward a bit. "Now get going girly, you have a long way to go and you have training with me in the morning."
Stumbling slightly from his shove, Robin glanced back at him with wide blue eyes before smiling and giving him a thumbs up. "You can count on me!" Looking down at Ace and Black*Star she gave both of them a thumbs up as well and grinned broadly at them. "You ready to do some intense training? We need to catch you guys up to the rest of my team." Black*Star just snorted, he was all ready stronger then them! Ace just crossed his arms and looked away, he really didn't care either way about this whole training thing.
Laughing at their reactions Robin waved goodbye to Ampersand and the rest of her team before she started to head off into the wild unknown. OK well the wild unknown for her. At her side Ace walked easily keeping an eye out on the shadows somewhat lazily, ahead of her Black*Star ran around with seemingly unending energy. There were a few trainers who were hanging around but they didn't seem to interested in the trio. That is until Robin felt something crash into her from behind. "Ah!" She yelled as she was smacked to the ground by an unknown force.
"It's time to battle pokemon trainer!" Came a loud voice from behind and on top of Robin.
"Ouch..." She muttered as she rubbed her face, she had landed right on her nose and she was pretty sure it was bleeding. Looking back she spotted a blond very muscled, almost man like woman. Actually she wasn't all that sure it was a woman the more she looked. "Umb okay..." She put her hand to her nose and when she pulled it away it proved she was right about her nose bleed. "Umb cbm youb geb obb ob me?" She muttered as she clutched her bleeding and starting to swell nose.
The woman(man?) didn't seem to notice her predicament and jumped off of Robin and did a few back flips away from her. "A double battle is what we will have!" The strange steroid junkie shouted. Without waiting on Robin she(he?) it was hard to tell under all the muscles, tossed out to pokeballs. They both exploded in a burst of white light to reveal a Machop and a Meditite.
"Gob Ache! Goh Blab*Stah!" Robin ordered from her side. She wished she had some tissues or something, she was starting to get blood everywhere.

It was safe to say that the two redheads were more than a little bit on edge as they slowly continued on, keeping their eyes open for more signs of their friend. Keegan and Flannery hadn't made that much more progress before a shifting sound could be heard behind them, and Keegan spun around, quickly taking a defensive position only to find himself practically face to face with the very person they'd been looking for. Keegan muttered a few curses and sighed. "I really hate when you do that," he muttered, stepping back and once again eyeing the casualties on the floor. Overboard? the redhead thought, pining for a cigarette, maybe just a little. It was at that point that Keegan realized he'd probably never really be all that comfortable around Mike ever again, or at least until he too better understood his old friend's strange transformation. The smoke drifting up from the gash in his forehead certainly didn't help to ease his nerves much, either.
Very suddenly, the tension in the air intensified, and the Lavaridge Trio all stopped to listen. There were definitely a lot of unfriendly footsteps headed towards them, and Keegan was certain that things were about to get a lot more difficult. Within seconds, Magma grunts had swarmed in from both sides, five in front of them, four coming in from behind. Some of the grunts were even carrying weapons with them, and Keegan silently fumed over the fact that he hadn't thought to arm himself as well. On instinct he quickly moved so that Flannery was between himself and Mike, and he grinned slightly as the group of armed grunts began to advance. He had no intentions of letting himself wind up like he had in Slateport; there, he'd acted recklessly and had paid for it in blood and pain. This time, he would do things differently, and he smirked at Mike as he removed his leather jacket and casually tossed it to the side so it wouldn't become damaged. "Dear Mike, I thought you'd never ask," he replied almost gleefully.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw a grunt advancing from the back line, a PokeBall held in each hand. "Oh no you don't," Keegan growled, quickly snatching up Themis' PokeBall with the full intent to use his new favourite tactic against would-be attackers from various villainous organizations. With a snap of his wrist, the red and white sphere sped through the air and was caught the offending grunt's face. The impact made a loud crunching sound, possibly signaling a broken nose. The grunt whimpered and fell to the ground, the two PokeBalls rolling away harmlessly while in the meantime, Keegan's Manectric burst from his confinement, practically on top of the grunt. "Thunder Wave 'em," Keegan commanded, only able to see a flash of light and a pained cry as Themis obeyed, for the knife-wielder had lunged at him, apparently out for blood. Luckily for Keegan, his attack had been wild and poorly aimed, and he was able to avoid it. Knifey was relentless though, swinging again. This attack resulted in a superficial line of thin blood across Keegan's left bicep. "That was rude," the redhead growled, grabbing the grunt's knife arm with his left hand before throwing an elbow backwards into the grunt's chin. Knifey cried out and staggered a bit, and Keegan used the sudden opportunity to drive him back into the nearby wall, hoping to force the grunt to drop the knife. ===== It wasn't long after Miharu separated from the trio of boys that she released her faithful Pidgeot, Aska, and climbed up onto the bird's back. She wasn't quite sure where she'd go or what she'd do next, and she sighed and buried her face in the bird's feathers, squeezing her eyes shut. "Aska, just take us away from here, I don't care where," she said, her voice somewhat muffled, and she held on a little tighter as she heard the Pidgeot coo in acknowledgement. One flap of her powerful wings, and the duo rocketed into the sky, quickly leaving Route 129 and that area of Johto behind them. I'll visit Father some other time, the green-haired girl thought, recalling the conversation she'd had with Sam when the two of them had first entered Cherrygrove City, and she also hoped that her new friend wouldn't have too much difficulty capturing herself a Chinchou. Miharu sighed and shifted slightly, enjoying the feeling of the wind whistling through her hair. She felt immensely calm and relaxed, and before she knew it, she'd started to doze off. It felt as though only a few seconds had passed, but the small girl was soon jolted awake by the Pidgeot's landing, which in actuality wasn't rough at all.
"We're here," Miharu murmured sleepily, sliding down from Aska's back and wobbling a bit as she looked around, attempting to gain her bearings. The city didn't seem familiar at all at first, though after several moments, she was able to recognize the multi-storey building that was the Goldenrod City Department Store, which was located just across the street from the Pokemon Center, conveniently enough. Feeling better now that she knew where she was, Miharu thanked Aska and returned her to her PokeBall before walking towards the red-roofed building.

Jasper couldn't argue with Scarlet's choice, as at this point they really only had two options. Heading back to New Bark Town would prove to be pointless, as he was sure that between them, none of them had the capability to get them across that lake at the edge of town, so the obvious choice was Violet City.
Jasper idly recalled there was a gym located there, and if he remembered correctly, it was home to trainers that raised bird Pokemon. He figured Ditto and Totodile would be okay there, especially after some training, but poor, timid little Paras would be squashed like the proverbial bug he was. The kicker there was that Jasper didn't even realize the poor thing was also part grass type, making him especially vulnerable to flying type attacks.
"Well, let's go then," he said finally, agreeing with Jett. "Violet City isn't going to come to us." He still wasn't sure what he was going to do with this so-called new life of his, but at least he wasn't alone for the time being. * * * * * * * * * * Jan didn't bat an eyelid as Hayley's Charmander covered the field in a thick, hazy smoke, nor did he seem to care that his Ekans had missed with its attack. As he'd done with the first half of the battle, he remained calm, and simply raised his hand. "Ekans, Bite again, do it."
Jan's calm voice was in stark contrast to Hayley's current mood, as though she felt the Smokescreen had given her a bit of leeway, she still felt highly pressured to win this, especially with Distance and his Trapinch looking on. "Okay Cynder, we're doing okay, but I think you should give your Dragon Dance a try," she called into the smoke. The fire lizard gave a cry of affirmation and did just that, bettering both his attack power and footspeed as he could see the Ekans through the smoke, and it was coming right at him. Not wanting to feel what those fangs were like stuck inside his scaly skin, Cynder stepped off to the right, watching with wide eyes as a length of purple and yellow whizzed past him, only just missing for a second time. 'Okay, but we can't dodge forever,' Hayley thought. 'We need to get some attacks of our own going.'
"Poison Sting," was Jan's next command, as he soon discovered that direct attacks weren't going to cut it against the speedy little Charmander. He wouldn't admit it, but he could see the fire lizard's potential, and he wondered what it would be like to battle it once it had possibly evolved and amassed a lot more experience. The Ekans rose up on its coils, hissing fiercely before it lunged forward, spraying the obscured battlefield with dozens of tiny, venomous needles.

"Haha! Those two don't stand a chance against my pokemons muscles! Look at that ones skinny arms!" The muscled person laughed pointing at Ace's admittedly noodle like arms. The fighting pokemon on the other side laughed at the taunt while Ace himself just shrugged. Black*Star though was a different matter, he had more muscles then all of them combined! He would show them to just how tough he was! "Anyway lets show them how strong our muscles are! Meditite use Hidden Power while Machop you use your Karate Chop!"
"Umb, Abces, Blab*Stah dob de attab." Robin managed to say through her now swelling and still bleeding nose. It really hurt! She whimpered a bit as she shifted her hands slightly trying to hold in some of the bloodflow. This was the first time she really just wanted to get a battle over with and head over to the pokemon center.
Robin's pokemon looked back at their trainer a bit worried before glancing at each other. While they may not like each other they both did like Robin, it was a quick decision to work together to beat these fools as fast as they could. With that they both dashed to the side avoiding each of the two's oncoming attacks. The blue orbs of the Hidden Power hit where Ace was standing while the Machops hand barely missed crushing Black*Stars tail.
Black*Star glowed as he used his Dragon Dance his claws scraping ground in a probably subconscious star pattern as he felt his power raise. Ace meanwhile had continued charging only rolling up into a ball intense flames surrounding him as he used his flame wheel to create a fire barrier around the two. It was no where near as strong as a Fire Spin would be but it would make the two think twice about charging them again like that. When he finished he landed next to a glowing Black*Star. It seemed like the two of them had learned a few things about teamwork since they traveled together so much.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Glameow wasn't able to escape all of Xannon's rocks and gave a startled cry as its leg was hit pretty hard by one of them. On his side of the battlefield Dante grinned, that cat maybe agile but he was pretty sure with that leg wound it wouldn't be able to move so fast anymore. "Good job Xannon." He handed out some rare praise to the ancient doll pokemon. The Baltoy seemed to hum in appreciation as it swayed from side to side on its point.
"Oh my that looked like it hurt." Dante's companion muttered as she surveyed the battlefield. Dante himself didn't say much of anything and only gave her a look that clearly read what he thought of that comment. "Oh relax." She just smiled at him and brushed him off. "It's a friendly battle." With that she watched as her Mismagius taunt the poor Pacharisu. It seemed though that she was getting bored of it and decided to actually do some damage to the other pokemon. "Mismagius let us see your beautiful Psybeam." She called out.
The ghost pokemon nodded and with an elegant twirl and a bit of dark sparkles it shot off a powerful and colorful looking Psybeam at the Pacharisu. The poor squirrel pokemon let out a pained cry as it was hit square in the chest. The Pacharisu wouldn't be getting up again after that attack and the other trainer recalled it. They didn't look to put out by losing in such an elegant way though. "Would you like some help finishing off your opponent?" The pretty blond asked her grumpy auburn haired traveling companion.
Growling slightly Dante still couldn't help but be impressed with his partner. At least she could hold her own, he was the one behind here. "No thank you."
"You boys are so stubborn." She teased but didn't say anything else instead watching the other side of the battle.
"Use your Psybeam Xannon." Dante ordered wanting to test his own pokemon's Psybeam against the strong one he saw the blondes Mismagius use.
"Oh geez! Dodge it with Faint Attack Glameow!" The girl on the other side shouted.
It would be a battle of speed now, normally Dante would have bet on the Glameow being faster but with that wound it was anyone's game. He watched as Xannon shot a strong, but not as strong as his partners, Psybeam. While that launched the Glameow started to fade away as the attack hit. It was only a matter of if it hit before it faded completely.
Now that they'd come across some of the grunts Mike had previously encountered, Flannery stuck decidedly closer to Keegan, her hand still clutching Magu's Pokeball quite tightly. When Mike stepped out of his well-concealed hiding place, she very nearly screamed, but was able to hold it back, biting down on her lower lip. She tried to say something but stopped, trying very hard not to flinch away from the boy's touch as he reached for her. Had she been more of the observational type, she probably would have noticed that her too friends had become still and silent, listening to something. A few seconds of cluelessness later, she too could hear the footsteps approaching. It sounded like many different sets, and all at once she knew there was too many for it to be those of their friends. "That's a lot of footsteps," she whispered, but neither of the boys heard her, as they were too busy eying the grunts that had just surrounded them. Gulping, the gym leader also took her Torkoal's Pokeball from her belt, not at all offended that Mike and Keegan had put her between them. She now could see that some of them were armed, and that factor alone rattled her confidence to the point where she temporarily froze up, unable to think of anything except for What am I doing here?
Everything around her seemed to fall into slow motion. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Keegan using a Pokeball as an effective weapon before being attacked by a knife-wielding grunt, and the two began to struggle for control of the weapon. She vaguely saw Keegan's Manectric now running wild, and now some of the other grunts, ones that apparently weren't interested in engaging in fisticuffs, tossed out several Pokeballs between them. Flannery noted a Zubat, a Numel, a Mightyena, and a tiny Diglett, of all things, and suddenly, her fear melted away like a block of ice in the mid-July sun. Time then returned to normal, as did the gym leader's resolve, and the redhead narrowed her eyes before she released her own two Pokemon, able to gauge that their opponents were relatively weak in comparison to her own. A quick Rock Throw from Magu downed the Zubat rather quickly, and a concentrated jet of fire from Torkoal brought down the Mightyena, confirming Flannery's suspicion that the grunts were now trying to gain force with numbers rather than individuals. The Diglett disappeared below the rocky floor, and Flannery didn't seem to notice it gone as its battling partners were quickly withdrawn. The Numel gave a growl and charged headlong towards Torkoal, but it quickly found this tactic to be virtually useless against Torkoal's nearly impenetrable shell.
=-=-=-=-= The Champion couldn't help but smile when she saw the look of understanding appear on Jason's face. It always pleased her to see young trainers learning more about their Pokemon and becoming more in tune with them, as it always made them better trainers and friends in the long run. It was true that Cynthia herself didn't have much experience with raising Electric-type Pokemon, though it had been a type she'd been considering to add to her roster for a long time now. The only issue she'd had was choosing one, as there were so many great ones to choose from.
She had been ready to agree with Jason's course of action regarding his Magnemite when quite suddenly, the boy's head snapped forward, planting itself quite messily in the half-eaten ice cream. If it hadn't been for Jason's loud snores, Cynthia definitely would have thought that the boy had just up and died right in front of her. "What the..." The blonde woman trailed off as she watched the boy sleep soundly, face-first in his ice cream and still standing, at that. Over the years, Cynthia had encountered many strange things during her travels, but never anything like this. She had no idea if she should try to wake him, or let him come to on his own. A few people nearby had even stopped to stare, making even the normally-confident Cynthia somewhat nervous.
=-=-=-=-= "Nidoking?" he asked, taking a cautious step forward. A large, purple beast was breathing heavily, down on one knee. His shoulders were shaking with exhaustion.
"Finish him, Venomoth!" the blue-haired called, pointing at the downed creature. "Psybeam!" Reacting quickly, the large, purple moth flapped its wings quickly, generating power. It opened its mouth, and fired a rainbow-coloured beam. The purple beast did nothing to avoid it, taking the hit solidly. The force of the attack sent him tumbling over backwards, his tail sweeping out, knocking Jaeshan flat on his back. As he landed, he heard a sickening crack, and he froze upon realizing that it had come from the egg, which had still been clutched tightly to his chest.
"Oh no," the boy whimpered, staring up at the sky, tears dotting the corners of his eyes. "It's broken..."
"What's broken?" a concerned face appeared above him, and above her floated Venomoth, looking down at the two curiously. "Are you hurt? Hey! Answer me!" she called, as the boy didn't answer.
"M-my egg," he said, sitting up slowly. "When I fell, I squeezed it and I heard it crack..." He glanced over at the purple creature, who had propped himself up with one arm, and was looking apologetically over at his trainer. He hadn't the energy to get back up again. "It's broken, isn't it? I can't bear to look!" He squeezed his eyes shut as he sat up slowly, still cradling the cracked egg in his arms.
"Uh, yeah. It’s broken," the girl stated gently, kneeling next to him. "But I think it's gonna be all right somehow." Her voice held a hint of laughter, and the boy opened his eyes, looking at her in awe.
"What? How can it be okay? My egg is broken! The Pokemon…" he stopped, feeling something moving in his arms. He summoned his courage, and looked down. Indeed, the pale, orange egg had a large crack that nearly split it in half. Underneath, he could see something moving. He leaned in closer for a better look, blinking in astonishment as a small beak pushed its way through the crack. Then, two eyes were looking up at him, at first, in confusion, and then in delight.
"Tor...chic?"
Jake's eyes snapped open, the hazy dream lingering in his mind. It felt familiar, yet distant. He could still see that small, orange Pokemon that had blinked up at him through the cracked eggshell, and all at once he jumped up, startling both Grotle and Bibarel from their naps. None of them had been asleep for more than about fifteen minutes or so, but it felt like a lot longer as Jake swung his legs over the side of the bench, quickly looking around for something long and pointy. A stick was lying on the ground a few feet away and he sprang up, grabbing it and quickly sitting back down. The edge of the stick scraped noisily against the relatively solid dirt ground, and within a few moments, he'd scratched out a fairly decent rendering of the small orange Pokemon he'd seen in his dream. It was fairly cute, with beady little eyes and a tiny beak. Small feathers protruded from its head, and though Jake didn't know why, he knew they were yellow. The blonde haired boy stared down at his handiwork, sitting for a long moment before he scratched the letter 'T' under the face of the cute chick thing. I... I know this, Jake thought excitedly, trying desperately to remember more details about the dream. Meanwhile, his two Pokemon were both staring at him, wide-eyed, though both for different reasons. Grotle thought that maybe his trainer had remembered something important while Bibarel simply figured the boy had gone off the deep end.
As Kilik commanded his Electivire like a general commanding an army, he could hear the sounds of battle continuing on behind him. He couldn't break his gaze from his current situation for everything could change in the blink of an eye, but it certainly sounded like Mitsu was dealing with her battle just fine. He gave Sasha firm nod without looking at her to let her know he had everything under control on his end. Cable was delivering a powerful Thunderpunch right into the Houndoom's mouth, causing the beast to go flying into a stone wall. "Yeah-hay!" Kilik cried out, pumping his fist into the air. "Now, give it another one, Cable! He whistled and the Electivire pulled his fist back to charge up another blow.
"Not so fast, kid!" The Magma grunt barked, "Houndoom, Fire Fang, as hard as you can! And Camerupt, use Rock Slide on that Fearow!" The camel nodded and slammed both his front feet into the ground. His volcanic humps began to dribble a small amount of lava from the rims before unleashing a large amount of boulders into the sky, aimed directly for Sasha's flying companion. Meanwhile, the canine beast's mouth began to glow red hot, fire spouting from it's jowls before biting down hard onto the Electivire's incoming fist. While the Thunderpunch did deal its damage, it was hindered by the bite itself.
Cable let out a roar of pain when the fangs dug into his hand. Fire shot up the length of his powerful arm. The Houndoom was clenched onto his body, unrelenting in its grip. In visible and large amounts of pain, Electivire swung his free fist back and repeatedly began to slam Brick Break after Brick Break into the side of the Houndoom's head. "Vire! Elec...! Vire! Vire!" Cable cried out, punching harder still. Eventually, the Houndoom was knocked out cold and fell limp from Cable's fist. Cable began to pant heavily, looking at the hand that Houndoom had been so keen on tearing off.
"Cable..!" Kilik shook his head to come back from what seemed like a dream; he had just stood as his Pokemon took absolute control of a situation and came out on top. "Great job!" The Electivire nodded, panting heavily. With Houndoom out of the way, Kilik thought, looking over at the Camerupt as it continued to barrage Fearow with Rock Slide, All that's left is the Camerupt! "Cable, I know you're tired, but I need you to just cover for Fearow, okay? Use a combination of Brick Break and Quick Attack to shatter those boulders!"
The grunt took a step back. This kid was just pounding him...No way he was going to lose! But Camerupt was all he had left and he wasn't going to turn tail and run! As he watched the yellow blur shatter boulder after boulder, he came to his wits end. "Cameruuuupt!" he roared, throwing both of his fists forward, "Overheat!! And give it everything you've got!!" With a bellow, the Camerupt began to unleash waves of lava, shooting at both Cable and Fearow.
Kilik bit his lip. This could end badly. Cable was too tired to try and avoid it. He would need Sasha to deliver the final blow. "Electivire!" Kilik cried out, "Stand your ground! Be strong! You'll make it through, I promise!" He grit his teeth. This was it.
Riza felt her heart grind painfully to a stop inside her chest and she knelt down, pulling Akima closer to her as she watch Lillian prance out on to the stage. Despite knowing that they had done well, the raven haired girl was far too nervous to look up at the scoreboard, and instead she concentrated on the emcee, though it was a little difficult to do because of the cheers from the crowd. Without realizing it, she'd shut her eyes, and her hands were both balled up into tight fists, her knuckles snow-white against her already pale skin. What would she do if they didn't win this? Would everything she'd worked for so far be for nothing? What would Shiro think of her, especially since he'd moved on to the next round, but she didn't?
Tears of frustration were threatening to well up in the corners of Riza's eyes when she felt a gentle prod from Akima, and she looked up to see her dazzling smile lighting up the scoreboard, with the word 'winner' written out below it. They really hadn't won it by much, but it had been enough. From across the stage, David simply smiled, and bowed his head. Riza returned the smile, now standing up to her full height, and giving a little wave to the crowd before she was ushered back offstage, where Akima received healing. She glanced around for Amy, but the quiet girl was nowhere to be seen. Frowning, Riza returned to her dressing table, quickly giving herself a once-over in the mirror. As she listened to Lillian's voice over the loud speaker, she touched up her makeup and made sure her hair was still perfect, looking back at the in-room TV in time to see how the next round would be sorted out. 'What? I'm against Shiro now?' she gulped, her heart missing a few beats as the first of the two matches was started. She gulped again and quickly regained her composure, now noticing that a letter addressed to her had been stashed among her things. "Hmm? What's this?" she mused, picking it up to read it. * * * * * Katie too had been quite impressed by the trick her two Pokemon had just pulled off, though she knew something like that was highly unlikely to succeed a second time, especially against such an experienced opponent. Before she could respond to Mai, the Espeon had retaliated with a Confusion, and before long a bewildered Miles found himself dangling upside down, only to be tossed carelessly to the ground a few seconds later. Though the Espeon had toned down the attack, it had still shaken up the Buizel by quite a bit, and now he staggered about the battlefield almost woozily. 'Oh no, please don't tell me that Miles is confused now,' the orange haired girl though. "Come on, Miles! Give 'em a Sonic Boom! And Nell, you-"
Katie's orders were cut off midway through as Miles had perked up at the sound of his trainer's voice and quickly followed through with the attack. He spun around, sending a blast of sonic energy traveling along the ground, only he'd mistaken his Buneary partner for his opponent. Nell barely had enough time to hop up and out of the way of the attack, and she landed, her eyes wide. "Bun, bun!" she shouted, trying to snap her teammate out of his confusion, but it did nothing to help as the Buizel sent another Sonic Boom her way.
The letter to Riza was scrawled out, slightly hurried but legible nonetheless.
Dear Riza,
I'm sorry I couldn't be here to see how you did in the contest-- I bet you'll win, but congratulations on however well you do! I know you just met me, but you're one of the first trainers I've met on my journey and I feel like we could be great friends. So that's why I have to tell you this:
When we first met, you said you spent time learning "the basics of becoming a trainer," and I've been thinking about it ever since. I realize I'm completely inexperienced; I need to learn the basics myself. I need to overcome my aversion to regular battling. Thank you for helping me realize that. Soon, I'll be starting my real journey. I promise that the next time you see me, I'll be much stronger and then we can battle, be it in a contest or out of one.
Thank you,
Amy
At first Riza was confused as to who had sent her the letter, and after adjusting to the hurried writing style, she quickly read over the letter before scanning the bottom line for the name of the sender, smiling slightly when she saw that it was from Amy. The letter made that much more sense now that she knew who it was from, and even though she knew she probably wouldn't find her new friend, she glanced around anyway, hoping to catch sight of the bespectacled girl. Of course she wasn't there, and Riza sighed and hoped she was okay as she glanced up at the screen. That Jerome boy and his Cacturne were tough, and she narrowed her eyes at the screen, wanting nothing more than to extract revenge on him for how cruelly he'd put an end to Amy's contest hopes. Seeing the green Pokemon and the smug boy only seemed to fuel her desire even more, and she knew that if she wanted a shot at him, she'd have to get through Shiro first, the consolation round be damned.
Jason's sleep was unprovoked and came without warning, his snores deep as he stood there face in his ice cream as if it were a comfy pillow. Then, just as suddenly as he had fallen asleep, his head shot upwards back to it's original position as he looked around dazed for a moment. "Hmm? Guess I fell asleep." Lifting his shirt with one of his hands he wiped the ice cream off his face and started eating again, looking around at Cynthia and the people who were watching, most of which very surprised by his sudden revival. "Eh? What's everyone all worked up over? The city is kinda strange huh?" Jason kept eating his ice cream as he started walking again as if the event had never taken place. "Ooo hey Cynthia I just remembered, you never let me sketch your pokemon like you said. Although I did kinda jump ship before we made port....hehehe." not the best idea in the world, but the mere thought of it made Jason laugh. The innocence of a child, or the eccentricity of a young teen, perhaps no one would ever truly know. Some things were best left unquestioned. Jason was looking at Cynthia with great excitement now, the prospect of getting an in depth look at some new pokemon, and strong ones at that, then getting to sketch them was more than a good time for him.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The sun shone through the windows of the pokecenter, but at the large beam of light reached the pillow, there was no one there for it to wake. Carlos had been up nice and early, and was sitting on the windowsill tuning his guitar. "Vasta que pasa, played it to hard yesterday I think." He said with a bit of a frown as he tweaked the tuning keys and plucked the strings, wincing at the apparently ghastly sound that his beloved instrument made. He did this for several minuets more until he was satisfied and smiled big, walking into the laundry room just as the dryer buzzed, throwing on his now clean poncho and gathering his things. "Que maravioso este dia, a fine day to travel." But where wold the Sombrero wearing man go from here? That was the real question. As Carlos walked about in the hot summer sun, glad he had a nice sombrero to keep him shaded, he looked at his pokeballs. Where had he not been in a long time? Within his very first pokeball was Javier, his first ever friend and companion in the pokemon world, the pokemon he had received while on tour with his family in Sinnoh many years ago. He remembered when it was just a little Kricketot and as afraid of him as he was of it. "Ah ha ha, tan chiquito que eras, how long ago was that? Hmm, perhaps it is time I returned there, the legends in Sinnoh are very ancient beings, it is even said that all of creation started there. I'm sure to find more clues there about the legendary pokemon." It would take about a full day to reach Sinnoh from Kanto by ship, so Carlos would have to leave soon. Luckily He was just north of Vermillion City now and he would be able to catch a ferry out from there. There was no point in waiting around here any more, so Carlos began his journey south to Vermilion, strumming his newly tuned guitar as he walked happily.
