I've been playing flute for about 4 years now, and now I'm a freshman in highschool and i have first flute! I'm in a small school but last year the high school beat all the other big bands and we took their trophy cause we were the best! >< Now this year our goal is to do it again and again, to show that small schools can still be the best! I became a flute cause i couldn't play the trumpet cause of my dumb dad!

Hallo~ I'm a flautist, flutist, w/e. n///n
I was thinking of playing clarinet, but we had like a billion and no flutes, so I decided to be a flute so my friend became one too and another person as well. /*This was in 6th grade*/
So, heyyy~

okay flutes I have a little info most of you could use! Alrighty so you know how you put your lips on the mouth piece? Well actually your supposed to put the mouthpiece on the cereas of your chin. BUT it depends on the shape of your lips and jaw mosly. I tried this and I could get my notes higher and lower. Plus it was MUCH easier to move my lips to get different pitches. This really works and it is awesome. ~Warning~ This may not work for some people who play flute. My friend tried and it didn't work for her so don't really get your hopes up. XDD

That and a lot of people, if you notice, do not bring their flute to their face, but rather they bring their face to the flute. Bring the flute to your face and put the inside ring of the tone hole on the line between your lips and your your chin. Most of the time the flute naturally fits and feels comfortable there. Also, Hands in the shape of C's, like you're holding a can of coke, can help with pain in hands and help prevent carpel tunnel in the future. It is also very common for people (including me) to turn their chair slightly to the right of straight forward, so it is angled slightly, because unlike how they teach us in marching band, we are not meant to play straight out to our right. Rather, by sitting with a slightly turned chair (but sitting normal) and aiming your flute where you did before can help improve comfort and air volume.
Sorry, howdy. I'm a flute from Texas and my band director likes to get us clinicians from symphony's and universities to give us tips and help. He also has a ton of friends in these positions, along with mentors, so if I have a lot of info in my head ^^ I also took from a flute that played for the Houston Opera, thats where I learned about the mouthpiece and placement on your face...
Anyways, yeah. I'm new to the guild, been playing for 6-7 years, I'm in the second symphonic band at my school but considering how difficult my band program is, thats fine by me XD

I absolutly love the flute. even though I play the piano and piccolo the flute is still number one in my book. I am the best in the flute section so when I don't play my director gets really mad and says. "Please play!" and Im like. "Come on, just addmit I'm the best?" XDDD

Mini rant: I'm a first chair flute in the Children's Orchestra Society Sinfonia. Well, actually I'm the only-chair flute stare . The first rehearsal was last Saturday. We were getting the music for our chair auditions (which is pretty much the same music as the piece we're playing for the concert: Rumanian Folk Songs by Bartok) and I was sooo excited, until I walked in and saw nothing but cellists, violinists, a viola, and a trumpet, so I was like gonk gonk gonk I'm the only flutist?!?!?! AND I get a big FAT solo in the third movement, and the seventh movement has high B's and I only know the fingering for high B flat and I keep forgetting the fingering for high A. Good thing the concert's in April!!! gonk
