I'm not as lost as I thought I was, Karrigan thought with a relieved sigh, kneeling down and gently patting the Onix's horn, and held on for balance as he lowered her safely back down to the forest floor. She thanked the large Pokemon, but stopped when she suddenly realized that the sounds around them were different. For a moment, all she could hear was the soft snoring of the Abra as it dozed quietly nearby, but then a feeling of dread filled her and she shook her head in disbelief. "Oh.. no..."

Just like out of some bad nature-gone-wrong movie, a large swarm of Beedrill burst out of the trees, their enraged buzzing even louder than before. It hadn't taken the insects long to find the girl that had threatened their nests, and they were quite eager to dish out some payback as they all took aim and unleashed a barrage of Poison Sting. Karrigan cried out and braced herself for the pain, opening her eyes only when the pain didn't come. She looked up in surprise as her Onix had blocked the attacks with his tail, and now the sounds of the needles chinking off his rocky body were mixed in with the buzzing. Of course, how could I be so stupid? Bugs are weak against Rock-type Pokemon, she thought, resisting the urge to slap herself in the forehead. "Aegeus!" she called, still shielding herself in case a few needles got through, "use Harden to protect yourself!"

Aegeus gave a roar to show that he agreed with the command, and his sectioned body began to glow and shine as it strengthened itself. It was much harder for the Beedrill's attacks to get through now and actually cause him damage, though Karrigan did keep in mind that there was still a chance the Onix could become poisoned. The Beedrill were fairly relentless with their attacks, though Karrigan was quite thankful that she was being kept safe by the Onix's large body. "Now use Screech," she commanded, already ducking low and covering her ears. Aegeus reared back and opened his mouth before unleashing what was very nearly a solid wall of sound, and it was so loud it sent many of the Beedrill tumbling back. Some that were unaffected tried to fly in and around him to get to Karrigan, but a quick flick of his rocky tail quickly put a stop to them.

Amid all the chaos, the Abra slept on...

For Cynthia, there was nothing nicer on a warm, sunny afternoon than a triple scoop mint chocolate chip ice cream cone, especially after a long boat ride, and even more so since that boat had its entire stock of food supplies eaten by a single Snorlax and Ambipom in an eating contest. It hadn't been that big of a deal for the Sinnoh champ, as she'd had a very good breakfast before the trip, and she'd just treated herself to a nice lunch after they'd docked in Canalave. She was now in Jubilife City, and she was pleased to see it was still as bustling as it always was. She'd heard from people in the crowd that there had been many battles taking place in the streets, and there were even a few going on now. None of them really caught her attention, as she was focused more on not dripping her ice cream on herself, except for one, which was currently taking place between an Onix, and something else that she couldn't quite make out. The Onix was quite young, as it was nowhere near fully-grown, yet it was healthy looking and energetic. She quickly assessed the trainers, now seeing a finger-waving Munchlax that belonged to a large, flustered-looking boy, and the hat-wearing, Narcoleptic boy from the ship, Jason. It appeared that the Onix in question belonged to him.

"Metronome, always a roll of the dice," she said lightly, still enjoying her ice cream as she remembered using that move quite a bit when her Togepi, now a fully-grown Togekiss, was young. The first Metronome resulted in a simple Growl, but the next roll of the dice proved to be a much bigger success as the Big Eater Pokemon unleashed a powerful-looking Hyper Beam. Cynthia continued to walk closer until she was near Jason. "Luckily Hyper Beam, a Normal-type move, won't be overly damaging to a Rock-type, such as your sweet Onix, there," she said casually.

Ryka's eyes flicked between the over-sized timer on the wall and the battlefield in front of her. Time was coming down to the second. Although commanding her Pika-sicle to attempt to free himself, she knew that there was no chance. He wouldn't get out of the ice in time, much less stand a chance if Crenu decided to attack the helpless thing. Which she suspected that he would. If anything, Ryka knew her Pikachu and his determination. He wouldn't be satisfied with giving up because all seemed hopeless, even if it meant him getting bruised up. As much as she would love to call off the match now, she couldn't. Battling was about giving it your all, right! To the end!

And just as Ryka predicted, Crenu launched an attack. A powerful Brick Break, at that. Poor blitz would have no chance! And Crenu must've known that, so why would he still attack...? Ryka asked herself, getting a bit upset. It really did seem that he had the intent, not to win, but to demolish. But her feelings were shaken by the determined and proud power she could feel from Blitz. They couldn't give in, and they wouldn't! the power flowed through her and gave her the strength to go on.

"Never give up, Blitz!" Simple words, but words that bonded trainer and her Pokemon. They might lose, but they knew that they won in their friendship. Blitz gave a Ryka a smile, one that almost immediately faded by Poliwhirl's attack. The Brick Break decimated the ice prison, sending shards of ice in every direction, as well as the Pikachu contained inside. It was a direct hit that sent the Pikachu flying into the closest wall, fainted. And just like that, the battle was over.

The sound of the buzz was quickly drowned by cheers from the audience. Over the PA the announcent that Crenu had won was said, but Ryka barely heard any of this. As soon as the buzz had ended the match, Ryka ran over to hold her little mouse. He opened his eyes wearily, and she rubbed noses with him. "That was amazing, Blitz. You have so much strength! I'm so proud of you." Blitz smiled up as his trainer as she walked to the middle of the field to congratulate her opponent.

"Thank you, Crenu. That was a wonderful match. Congratulations on the win, you very much deserve it!" Ryka looked down at the ground, shifting her weight uncomfortably, unsure of whether to say anything else. Looking back up into his cold eyes, she decided to add, "I know it may not in my place to say, but...you seem to be very hard on your Poliwhirl. And your opponents." She glanced at his Poliwhirl before continuing. "It might not hurt to be a bit more...how do I say, gentle? Love can breed very powerful strength. I mean you no disrespect from this, of course. I just feel it may make your Poliwhirl happier...as well as your opponents." She quickly looked down at her pained Pikachu, then gave Crenu a smile. "But really, thank you."

Riza didn't have to look at the scoreboard to know that hit had probably cost her quite a few points. Even worse, Akima took longer to stand up than she would have liked, so long, in fact, that the Wartortle came at her again, though this time its arm was raised and its fist was glowing bright. "Akima, you have to dodge that!" Riza called frantically, recognizing it as a Brick Break attack. She knew by know that fighting-type moves were very dangerous against her Sneasel, and if it were to hit, the match would be over. 'No, I'm not quitting now,' she thought, gritting her teeth. 'We've come this far, and we're not losing it in only the second round!'

Akima's thoughts mirrored her trainers, that and she too was well aware of how much this would hurt if it connected. The Sneasel braced one foot against the stage, watching carefully as the glowing fist came toward her. She pushed off with all her strength, managing a somewhat sloppy, yet effective roll to escape harm, and the Wartortle's fist collided heavily with the floor where she had just been. Both she and Riza could vaguely hear David shouting out some kind of order, but neither paid very much attention, as they were focused on their own strategy. "Akima, let's wrap this one up with a Faint Attack," Riza called. Nodding, Akima began to run full-tilt towards her opponent, who was already in the process of shooting a Water Gun. The watery attack didn't even come close to hitting the speedy Sneasel as she vanished in a thin haze of blackness, reappearing quite suddenly behind the startled Turtle Pokemon. She lashed out with her sharp claws, slashing his arms, legs, tail and finally planting a solid kick to the center of his shell, sending him skidding a few feet across the stage.

Riza was so relieved that Akima's evasion and counter attack had been a success that she almost didn't realize that the bell had sounded, and the round was over. Breathing heavily, Akima returned to her trainer's side as she exchanged distant glances with David. Neither coordinator was sure which of them would come out of this as the winner and move on to the semi-finals as they waited for the judges' decisions.

Katie frowned a little when she saw how easily the Espeon dodged Miles' Water Gun. It wasn't the Buizel's fastest attack, as it took a second or two to build up the water before he fired it. Katie wondered if they could work on cutting down the time it took to prepare the water gun, all the while applauding Nell's efforts and her successful Pound attack, even if it wasn't very damaging against the obviously high-level Pokemon. "Thanks, Mai, that means a lot," she lied, more for her Pokemon than anyone else. She was growing increasingly frustrated with this practice match, even though logically she knew she shouldn't be. 'Relax, it's not like this is a real fight or anything,' she told herself. 'Mai's been doing this forever compared to us, we just need to keep up our training, is all. Besides, most of my Pokemon haven't even evolved yet.....'

"Okay guys, try it again, but Miles, you need to get that Water Gun off a lot quicker, or you're never going to hit anything with it, alright?" The Buizel eyed his trainer and nodded, quickly looking to the Buneary. Nell seemed to have an idea and motioned with her ears. Katie wasn't sure what was going on but the two Pokemon definitely had a plan. Nell led off the attack by running full tilt towards the Espeon with a Quick Attack. Miles, in the meantime, hung back a few seconds before he followed after her, already preparing his Water Gun attack and firing it in a straight line behind the speeding Buneary. A few feet before she would have made impact with the Espeon, Nell jumped forward, spring boarding up and over the psychic-type just in time to miss being blasted by Miles' Water Gun, and hopefully catching Serenity by surprise ad giving her a faceful of water in the process.

What was the time? Was the match limit here? It didn't matter, time was standing still as far as Crenu was concerned. For a moment all sound in the arena had been sucked away and all that lay before him was Poliwhirl, Blitz, and Ryka all in slow motion. Nothing else in the world mattered right now, this was it and was all that would be. Poliwhirl's fist smashed into the ice and it shattered, time returned to the stage as everything sped up and the sounds of the crowd came rushing back in as the ice crystals shattered apart and rained all over the stage. The little yellow mouse bounced off of the wall hard, and just like that it was over. Time didn't matter, points didn't matter, it was a K.O. and an instant win for Crenu and Poliwhirl. Just like that one of the most interesting and unexpected matches of his life was over and he would be advancing to the next round. Poliwhirl couldn't be happier, sure the Pikachu wasn't a stain on the floor but he was crushed and the world now knew of his dominance. He giggled and jeered as Ryka ran over to pick up her fallen pokemon, it was simply priceless! However one sharp glance from Crenu made him stop and remain quiet. With the match over Crenu was a little surprised to see Ryka heading over to him, no doubt to gripe about his last attack on her poor Pikachu. However what came out of her mouth completely stunned him, never would he imagine that she would thank him.

As she spoke in her gentle voice he could only stare back at her blankly, unsure what to make of all of it. What the hell was she saying? He glanced at Poliwhirl, then back at her as she offered him a smile, Crenu was caught completely off guard. "Happiness doesn't concern me, I don't have time to waste making nice with everyone. I will obtain ultimate power, any bridges I burn on that quest will be worth it and of no consequence to me. My strength is real enough, as you have clearly seen." He replied calmly, and with that Crenu turned around recalling Poliwhirl as he did so. But even as he started to walk away from Ryka her words rattled on in his head over and over, her words her face and the battle they just had wouldn't stop playing over and over and over all at once. After only a few steps he stopped, only half looking back at her. "...You both fought well. It was an interesting match." He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists all the way back to the contestant lobby, Ryka's words continued to buzz around in his head. Love breeding strength? Such foolishness. But her Pikachu was a tricky opponent, their synchronization was impressive. Could it be the bond they shared? No, no it couldn't be. Tactics, force, power, that was strength. He couldn't let his resolve be shaken, not now. Crenu leaned up against a wall arms crossed as he went over the match again in his head, waiting for the next portion of the contest to begin.

If Scarlet had ever thought about anything other than Pokemon battling, he probably would’ve found the professor’s diatribe a bit lengthy. But the thought processes not devoted to breathing were almost completely focused on learning all there was to know about the powerful monsters all over the world, so that wasn’t at all an issue. In fact, Scarlet actually seemed disappointed when Elm cleared his throat.

Of course, that disappointment instantly disappeared when the shiny red encyclopedias of near infinite knowledge were taken out of that cupboard. It took every bit of the redhead’s self control not to leap up and squeal with joy. With a massive grin, he took his brand new pokedex. “Thanks, Professor Elm! I’ll put it to good use!”

With that, he turned and followed Jett, Cindy trotting right behind him. It was a wonder he didn’t walk into a wall, as all his focus was locked onto his Pokedex and inputting the proper information so he could start scanning almost everything with a pulse.

“Right behind you, Buddy.”

The Hyper Beam was more than a surprise, and Atlas was caught completely off guard. The beam washed over him completely and while he tried his best to fight against it, the Rock Snake Pokemon was blasted back and hit the ground with a heavy thud that kicked up dust and rocks. Out of seemingly nowhere a voice chimed in and Jason turned his head to look, smiling to see the nice lady from before. "Yeah, but Onix have a very low special defense compared to their physical defense. Then again..." As he looked back to the battle field then at her again Atlas's body was slithering around coiling as he got up, eyeing the Munlax angrily. "If this thing evolves into a Snorlax and Snorlax have low special attacks, then it should as well. Heh heh heh, hey Cynth-something, ooo ice cream! We'll have to get some after the match right buddy? Rock Throw!" Atlas wasted no time in retaliating, digging out chunks of rock from the ground with his tail and flinging them with great force at the fuzzy blue pokemon.

"What? Mind your own business lady! This is between me and the squirt! Go ahead Metronome again show her how it's done!" But while the big guy was busy talking to the blond lady, Munchlax was taking several rocks to the face. He wasn't exactly nimble to begin with, and after Hyper Beam Munchlax was totally spent needing a moment to recharge. The rocks pelted his body and Munchlax went down, struggling to get up. This was a battle of young pokemon after all, they were definitely reaching their limit. Munlaxh was finally able to get to his feet breathing heavily, unable to open one of his eyes from injury. "Huh!? W-What happened? Munchlax why didn't you attack?" The big brutish boy looked confused and bewildered, he just didn't understand what was going on but Munlax looked pretty much done. "Hey come on man Metronome, I'm sure you can pull off the win."

Jason looked at the opponents pokemon, then at the opponent himself. "What man you don't know? Pokemon can't attack after using Hyperbeam, they gotta recharge. Didn't they teach you that in the trainer school dude?" He sighed, scratching the back of his head and he shook it. "Cut it out guy, Munchlax is maxed out man. Atlas is getting tired too, right bud?" As he spoke atlas roared out in protest, not wanting to admit it, but lowered his head and nodded. "Heh heh, alright. It was fun playing with you but I don't want our pokemon getting hurt. We can play later ok?" Jason said with a big smile, still unaware that the big guy was actually fighting with him for bumping into his girlfriend. He recalled Atlas and turned to face Cynth-something grinning. "That's yummy looking ice cream, where'd you get it?" As Jason was turned away the big guy kept calling out to him while his girlfriend screeched away, but Jason was to focused on the mint chocolate ice cream to notice anything. "Can you show me where you got it?" He said happily, walking away from the battle field and the loud mouthy couple. They were so silly.

It was a quiet night, not a whole lot of sound save for the various bug pokemon and their calls of the night. The songs that each one played for each other, songs of love, songs of sorrow, songs marking their territory, maybe even some songs just for fun. Carlos simply couldn't take it any more, the natural songs of the night inspired him far too much. "Maria, Javier, Julio, vamos niños, hay que tocar algo maravioso!" Carlos tap his three pokeballs and out came his three pokemon: Maria the Swablu, Julio the Lombre, and Javier the Kricketune. "Olle, javier and Maria sing along with my tune, and Julio it's up to you to dazzle with your steps." Without much delay the pokemon got into position, Javier walking along side Carlos as he continued down Rout 5 on his way to Saffron, Maria flying next to him, and Julio out in front ready to dance. Carlos had his guitar in front of him, strumming away happily.

"Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crecen las palmas
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crecen las palmas
Y antes de morirme quiero
Echar mis versos del alma!"

As he played his pokemon played as well. Maria chirped in beautifully with a high tone, while Javier played with his bow like arms on a lower note than the Swablu. Julio, not a player of music, was busy dancing around to the song jumping left and right as his arms waved around. He would spin one way and jump back around to the other, nearly making himself dizzy. It was a sight to see and hear for sure, and Carlos continued playing into the night. It wasn't until they were nearing the Saffron gate that Carlos started to play lighter and lighter with his pokemon following his ques and gradually the music grew silent. "Ah would you look at that, we are here. Bueno mis amigos, tiempo de dormir." Guitar swung around to his back Carlos recalled Javier and Maria, but Julio dodged the recall beam with his dancing. He was still into the groove and kept jumping left and right spinning around madly as Carlos shot recall beam after recall beam. "Olle calmate hombre, no mas!" But Julio didn't listen. He was having too much fun and the next thing anyone knew he made a dash for the gate spinning around in his dancing craze. "Que colera, donde vas!" Carlos had no choice but to chase after his Lombre into Saffron.

"This stuff is great," Jake muttered to himself as he wolfed down several handfuls of junk food all at once, only to wash it down with yet another bottle of soda. Despite the meal being way less than nutritional or good in pretty much any way, it was satisfying, and Jake lied back on the bench, bringing his legs up so his feet, still clad in the wooden sandals he'd borrowed from Rowan, rested on the plank. His knees were bent slightly and he closed his eyes, tucking his arms under his head. He could hear that Grotle and Bibarel were still eating, and he realized then that he was pretty lucky. If he hadn't washed up on that beach, and the professor hadn't been the one to find him, where would he be now? Would someone else had found him, and helped him? Or would he be wandering around in the wild, lost and hungry? He sighed and opened his eyes, studying the clouds that floated by overhead. Despite his inability to remember anything, he'd had a pretty eventful time since the professor had helped him. He raised his head high enough to see Grotle, and a sudden pang of guilt shot through him. What if Professor Rowan became angry with him because of the Grass-type's evolution? He hadn't mentioned anything like that before he'd left. In fact, he hadn't even said Jake could keep the Turtwig/Grotle - it was only lent to him to help him deliver that parcel.

The blonde averted his gaze from the leafy creature and looked back up at the sky. An oddly shaped cloud was currently passing above him, and as he stared at it, it seemed curiously familiar. "It looks like a Pokemon," the boy thought, tracing out the shape with his finger, and he chuckled. "It looks like a turtle." Of course, he had no idea why a turtle would seem relevant to him at this time. Maybe I was a turtle rancher before I lost my memory? he wondered idly, despite how strange the idea seemed. His chest ached slightly as he tried to remember, but soon that ache had relocated itself within his head. Trying to recall his past was a lot more difficult than he thought it would be, and he groaned and covered his face with his arms. "Hopeless," he muttered.

Grotle had since looked up from his food to watch Jake, worry apparent in the Grove Pokemon's kind eyes. He didn't know what his trainer was thinking, but he knew it must be hard to not remember where he came from, or even his family. Grotle tilted his head, now wondering if Jake had other Pokemon in his old life as well. What if he remembered them, and decided to leave he and Bibarel behind? He didn't want to go back to that lab. Bibarel, on the other hand, was oblivious to her trainer's inner turmoil and instead settled on eating the remainder of Grotle's supper, since he didn't seem to want it anyway.

Things looked quite different from Mai and Serenity's end of the battlefield, as about the only thing they could see was the Buneary speeding towards them with a Quick Attack. The attack seemed very straightforward so Mai hung back, quietly waiting to tell her Espeon to dodge. What she and the Psychic-type didn't see, oddly enough, was the Buizel racing in behind the Buneary's wake, already blasting forth a strong Water Gun. Serenity had been poised to evade, as her trainer had commanded, and her ears perked up as the rabbit Pokemon nimbly jumped up and over her, looking back just in time to receive a face-full of water from the previously hidden Miles.

"Heh, well done," Mai chuckled, impressed by the two young Pokemon and their ability to think fast. She could also see, however, that Katie was frustrated with her, and understandably so. It was quite obvious that the girl wanted more power, and it made the Rocket a little glad to find a young trainer that wasn't happy just plodding along at the standard rate. Despite that, however, Mai wasn't going to go totally easy on the girl. After all, she'd been where Katie was, and she could recall a time when all she thought about was getting stronger and obtaining more power. It wasn't something she'd thought about until recently, and after that woman from Sinnoh had totally crushed her it Slateport. "You're good, but the lesson isn't over yet," Mai snapped, a jolt of anger pulsing through her veins. "Serenity, Confusion."

The Espeon nodded in reply and quickly turned her gaze on the orange Pokemon that had soaked her. She didn't want to hurt it unnecessarily, so she toned down her power by quite a bit. Her forehead gem sparkled and her eyes began to glow with a faint blue hue before she sent it out in a small burst towards the Buizel.

Distinct Prophet

Peine left the Pokémon Center in haste, being very embarrassed about talking so loudly to himself in public.

‘Lorelei would’ve killed me if she ever saw me do that,’ Peine thought as he started to walk southeast from the Pokémon Center, entering Route 31. ‘God, all of these routes look the same. All filled with these trees and grass and trainers and Pokémon…all the same,’ the teen thought as he adjusted his straw hat.

Halfway down the route he found that the only path to the other side was blocked off by a couple trainers, three Bug Catchers, two Youngsters, and two Lasses, the bug catchers and lasses watching the youngster’s battle each other. The battle was Ratatta versus Nidoran Male, both of them doing little damage to each other due to the fact that they are low leveled. The trainers all cheered and called out attacks for the Pokémon, so it was very loud and obnoxious, something Peine wasn’t used to.

‘Now I have to wait for these schmucks to finish their battle and then the crowd to clear…what would Lorelei do if she was in this position…?’ Two thoughts entered Peine’s head; one was that his Foster-Mother would join the crowd and watch the battle while the other one was her fuming through them all and moving on. Peine liking the second option started to walk to the crowd and said, “Could you hold your battle for a second, I’m trying to pass.”

The crowd though didn’t even notice that he was talking and just continued watching the battle.

“I’m trying to get through here. I have to go get an important item from Professor Elm,” Peine said, this time a bit louder, though there was the same result.

‘Looks like I’m going to have to do this…’ Peine thought as he grabbed the pokeball and parkball sitting inside the rim of his hat. “Sel use ice punch on the Nidoran, Zor, use vacuum wave on the Ratatta!!” Peine called out, his Pokemon hitting the two that were blocking his path and knocking them out of the way, the Ratatta also was being KO’d in the process.

“What was that for?! That wasn’t necessary,” the Ratatta’s trainer yelled to Peine as he ran up to his Ratatta, putting it back in its pokeball.

“Ya, you didn’t need to do that you jerk,” the Nidoran trainer said, going up to his Nidoran and giving it a potion.

“I have an important package to pick up and I have to get there as quick as possible. Why did you have a battle in the middle of a passage way,” Peine retorted to both of the trainers, Sel and Zor standing next to their trainer.

“How about you battle for your passage,” the Nidoran’s trainer said to Peine. “My Nidoran and Isa’s Sentret versus your two Pokemon!”

“Why do you have to drag me into stuff like this Nate,” one of the Lasses, who Peine guessed to be Isa who walked over to the Nidoran’s trainer, Nate.

“I’ll take the challenge, seeing that I already knocked your Pokemon around once, I’ll do it again,” Peine said with a confident smirk on his face.

“Let’s get this over with,” Isa said sarcastically as she sent out her Sentret.

The other trainers gathered around Peine and their two friends, starting to cheer for them.

‘This is going to be the biggest waste of time ever. Oh well, the training is worth it,’ Peine thought as he got ready to battle.

Gabe, the man who Peine met on the train to Goldenrod City sat in a Café in Mahogany Town, quietly eating a sandwhich while his Golbat ate some PokeFood along with his Sandslash.

A waitress walked over to the man with his bill. “Here is your check sir,” she said calmly.

“Put it on this,” Gabe said, not even bothering to look at the check, handing her a black credit card with a large red “R” on it. The waitress looked at the card and a look of fear came to her face, immediately running to the register to make the purchase so the man can leave immediately.

After about two minutes, she came back, handing Gabe the credit card. “Um…here you go sir, I hope you enjoyed your meal,” she said, making a small bow and then running away immediately.

“Seems that they are still afraid of Team Rocket in this town guys. Who would ever think that,” Gabe said to his two Pokemon. “Now let’s go, I have to go make a call to Boss,” returning his two Pokemon to their respective pokeballs.

Gabe left the Café and walked to a private area, taking out a cell phone and scrolling down some contacts until he got to one named “Boss”. He pressed the call button, though the line went immediately to voicemail.

“Dammit, he left his phone off again, why does this always happen,” Gabe quietly, yet angrily said before the tone went off. Once it did, he left a message. “I came in contact with the boy today. He’s travelling alone to New Bark Town to get a Pokedex. Typical fourteen year old I’m guessing. I think he may have some potential to be a thorn in our side, though with enough persuasion, I think we can get him. He has the phone too. Heck he could’ve already given you a call by the time you get this message. Though if he hasn’t, he may soon enough. I’ll stand by in Mahogany for now, and I’ll move on your call.”

Gabe hung up the phone and then laid back on a tree, wondering why Giovanni even had interest in Peine Mononoke.

Where could have the little guy gotten off to? Carlos scratched his head in wonder as he walked along the well lit streets of Saffron city at night. Once he found Julio it was straight to the nearest center for a good nights rest. After coming all the way through Mt. Moon he was pretty exhausted not to mention the day they all had, Carlos was looking forward to putting his Sombrero down and taking a good long rest. The next day was for traveling, as the trail had gone cold on the pokemon he was searching for and it was time he go in search of the next Legendary. Perhaps he would take a break from searching for legendaries and just do a bit of normal sight seeing, maybe not. One thing was certain, it was time to move on to the next area as soon as morning came. It was a bit of a shame, Carlos would have liked to catch the contest that would be taking place in Cerulean tomorrow night but instead he was going to either head home to Hoenn for a bit or maybe head out to Johto. But before any of that was possible Julio had to be found. A familiar cry alerted Carlos that he wasn't far away from his friend and he ran towards the noise Poncho flapping in the wind. Julio cried out again, sounding much more frantic than before...almost scared. Nearly out of breath when he caught up to Julio, Carlos came to a skidding halt in front of one of the back streets of Saffron city. Julio, picking up on his trainers presence made a mad dash for Carlos's feet looking petrified as he glanced back down the street and a strange cry echoed out. "....Orale que es eso?" It was dark and the street lights flickered on an off, whatever Julio was afraid of was coming closer and closer, a sickly oozing noise emanating from it's body as it got closer and closer. As it stepped further into he light and the bulbs stopped flickering the creatures identity became clear as a ball of dark purple sludge came flying out of it's mouth directly at Carlos and his pokemon. taking Julio in hand Carlos dove out of the way nearly losing his Sombreso, placing his pokemon down and looking at their attacker. "Que ondas, it's a Grimer. What'd you do stumble into the wrong dumpster hombre? Oh well, it's good practice Julio, get in there and fight!"

Julio, a little less reluctant now that the shadowy growling mass reveled itself to not be a monster but a fellow pokemon, jumped forward staring it down ready to battle. The Grimer however wasn't going to wait and fired off another Sludge attack, the ball of poisonous gunk hitting the Lombre head on and knocking him back. Julio writhed around in pain as the poison type attack was very effective, stinging him greatly. "Julio! Damn that was malo...quick fire back with a Nature Power!" Julio rolled around onto his stomach, jumping up to his feet and scraping the gunk off of him as best he could, this Grimer meant business! Julio closed his eyes as he concentrated, opening himself up to the nature all aroudn him and gathering it's power, drawing it in and converting it into power. Nature Power's attack was dependent on the surroundings, and when Julio had the move his eyes shot open as he shot a three beams from his mouth and hands that intertwined and combined into a single attack. The Grimer couldn't react fast enough and took the Tri-Beam hard getting blasted away as the intense heat cold and electrical energy filled his body and left. The poisonous mass lay there face down oozing out as it lost it's form for a moment, that was all it could take. The Grimer got scared and oozed away into the nearest hole it could find for now, pissed at the duo. "Ah? Lla ganamos? Well done Julio maravioso! Let's go hombre, it's late." Carlos said with a smile as Julio jumped up triumphantly. Recalling the Lombre to his pokeball Carlos was off to check in to the nearest Pokecenter, having no trouble at all.

Somehow, Jett managed to pry his eyes from his Pokedex to glance at his redheaded friend and then at the route where their new travel partner awaited. He hated leading; he wasn't even the native of this region, but he shrugged in response, gradually heading forward.

The raven haired boy managed to continue at a steady pace while returning his focus back to his Pokedex, mostly checking out his team and what sort of moves they would learn next. He bit his bottom lip in slight concentration, and finally, he spoke in his usual quiet tone.

"Hey, did you know that River has a whole other evolution since he's male? I just need something called a Dawn Stone..." The typing seemed interesting enough, and the form would likely boost River's confidence, considering his other evolution choice was very... feminine, and considering Jett's most recent screw-up, that would not be for the best.

There was the tell-tale sound of a scuffle growing louder and louder as the duo continued their way onto Route 29. Finally, Jett saw other figures growing clearer and clearer from his occassional glance upwards to make sure he wouldn't run into a tree or something. There was Jasper and his brand new Totodile, fighting what looked to be a Pokemon that Jett could now readily scan and find out all sorts of neat information. The boy stopped in his tracks, aiming his Pokedex at the Sentret while he offered a fleeting, hesitant smile to his new traveling companion.

"Hi, Jasper."

Even though he's got a type advantage, there's no way that Aegeus can hold off all those Beedrill on his own, Karrigan thought, her mind quite distracted because of all of the buzzing. He needs help! The redheaded girl seized a second Pokeball and hurled it into the frayl. Though she hadn't been aiming for it or any thing in particular, the sphere soared through the air and smacked one of the Beedrill clean between the eyes, dazing it enough to cause it to fall out of the sky. The Pokeball burst open once it hit the ground, releasing Ikouma, Karrigan's Sneasel. The Dark and Ice-type took one look around, his normally calm eyes were wide with surprise. Taking down that one Beedrill had been trouble enough, so just how did his trainer expect him to deal with this many? Luckily, Aegeus was already out and tearing through their ranks, but even he wasn't sure that it'd be enough.

"Aegeus, use Rock Throw! And Ikouma, you use Ice Punch!" Karrigan called, ducking a spray of poisoned needles that had been fired her way. A quick glance at the Abra showed that it was still sleeping soundly, and Karrigan couldn't help but wonder how it could sleep through all of this noise. The Sneasel, easily faster than the Rock Snake and the majority of the Beedrill, ran along his teammate's back and vaulted forward, raising an icy fist and bringing it down on the closest enemy Beedrill. It fell to the ground, encased in ice, but there were still many remaining. Aegeus was having a less-than-easy time knocking them out of the air with his Rock Throw, but the ones that were hit were not getting back up again. Despite the good number of hits her Pokemon were getting, they were taking more than their fair share of them as well, and Karrigan knew it was only a matter of time before neither of them could battle any longer.

Cynthia simply smiled and continued to enjoy her ice cream as Jason worked out the details of Hyper Beam, and then quickly set his young Onix back on the attack. It had very good aim with its Rock Throw and the champ watched intently as the poor Munchlax was assaulted by several consecutive rocks. The poor little thing was just about out of energy, as was Atlas the Onix, though if Cynthia had to judge, she'd definitely say that the Rock-type won it. As it turned out, it was the end of the match, and Jason hadn't hesitated to recall his Onix and start chattering away about ice cream. He'd already gotten some ways ahead of her, unaware of the fact that the boy was still yelling at him. It hadn't bothered Cynthia that she hadn't been recognized, as it did happen quite often. She was bothered by the fact that this trainer seemed to either have very little regard for his Pokemon, or he was just oblivious to its status during battle. Cynthia strolled up to him, hands on her hips. "You there," she said, having finished her ice cream. "You need to pay more attention to your Pokemon during battle. You're lucky your opponent was a kind one, otherwise your Munchlax could have been seriously injured. I suggest you go back to class and study the basics a little more."

Not waiting for a response, Cynthia quickly turned on a heel and caught up to Jason, who still seemed pretty excited about the prospect of ice cream. "There's a little shop just this way," she told him, pointing towards a less crowded street. "It's not very big, or well-known, but they have so many flavors. All homemade, too," she added with a smile.

"Hee hee hee, that's alright. Home made stuff is the best anyway, I like little businesses more than chain franchises." Eager to get some nice tasty ice cream Jason followed the champions directions quickly nearly forgetting he was with company now. "So you're here in Jubilife too? I figured a big shot like the champion would have places to go when she got back to her region. Does being champion mean you have a ton of appointments and official championy things to do to like protect the region?" Jason looked up at Cynth-something, thinking that the champions of each region were like super heroes and presidents all rolled into one. "Hmm Cynth-something, you know a lot about pokemon and stuff right? Zeus is acting all weird and spazzy, I think it's cause he's not use to being surrounded by all the electronics of a city but i can't be sure. I'm sure it's nothing....but I'm still kinda worried." Jason looked up over his shoulder at where the the Magnemite would normally be hovering around, but of course he wasn't there. He wasn't use to Zeus being in his pokeball and it made the young boy a tad uneasy, he looked down at Zeus's pokeball with a deep concern, smiling as he put it away. "Worrying isn't gonna help anyone though. If I continued to dedicate myself to researching pokemon I'll be able to help Zeus and every other pokemon when something like this happens. Uh sorry, guess I rambled." He said scratching his head slightly embarrassed. This whole time he was so busy talking that he hadn't even realized that the ice cream shop was before them.

'Okay, what move was that?' Jasper asked himself as he watched the gator's speed and movement improve. Totodile was much faster now, and quite able to keep up with the Sentret. Remembering that he'd recently acquired a Pokedex of his own, he took it out and scanned the water type, but frowned when he saw that there was nothing new on the list. "Scratch, Leer, Water Gun," he mumbled, furrowing his brow in confusion. "Oh, uh, go ahead and try a Scratch," he added, realizing he should probably be giving orders to his Pokemon.

Totodile nodded and dashed at her opponent, an almost evil-grin spreading across her face as she easily matched Sentret step for step, move for move, and she couldn't deny the feeling of satisfaction she felt when her claws made solid contact with the fuzzy little creature. It was the Sentret's turn to be knocked to the ground, and Totodile didn't hesitate to follow it up with a Water Gun.

Jasper, meanwhile, was still trying to figure out what that mystery move had been, and he almost slapped himself in the forehead when he saw that there was an option under "moves through level-up" that was labeled "other available moves". Feeling like an idiot, Jasper tapped the option and found himself greeted with a relatively blank page, save for one, teeny little entry: Dragon Dance. It seemed that Dragon Dance upped both the user's speed and attack power by one level. "Well, that's useful," Jasper smiled, putting the Dex away. "But I'd like to know how a gator can learn a dragon move."

It was then that he saw Jett and Scarlet making their way towards him, both their noses stuck in their respective Pokedexes and looking relatively happy with themselves. "Hey," he said, answering Jett's quiet greeting. "I guess everything went well for you guys, then."

The Sentret, upon seeing the two new humans entering the scene, jumped up and grabbed the armful of berries it had been carrying back to its nest. How dare that toothy, blue thing call for backup? Deciding it best to cut its losses, the Sentret hurled a plump, blue berry at Totodile before it proceeded to disappear into the tall grass. Totodile rubbed her cheek where the berry had smacked her and glanced down. The berry itself smelled sweet and ripe, so she picked it up and nibbled on it, feeling her energy return. Now that the so-called battle was over, Jasper recalled Totodile into her Pokeball, and glanced at his two new traveling companions. "So Fearless Leaders, where to next?"

“Hrm? Sorry, Jett. I don’t even know what a dawn stone is, let alone what River’s supposed to evolve into anyway. … Wait, duh. I can find out now.” Utterly thrilled with his brilliant realization that his pokemon encyclopedia definitely had entries, Scarlet inputted what he vaguely memorized River as: A kirlia. And there stood the description of The Emotion Pokemon. Now, what Scarlet viewed most definitely wasn’t the manliest pokemon ever, sure. But the thing that followed?

“… Dude, did this thing evolve wearing a night gown?” The added kicker? “50% male…?” It was literally the most depressing thing Scarlet had ever seen. He felt so sorry for River, being almost fated to turn into one of these. It’d be like being a girl Mr. Mime. Or a Jynx-like guy. However, with another click on the pokedex, the redhead saw what would happen when River got himself a dawn stone. “… Does it have knives for elbows? … Totally makes up for the dress he woulda had.”

With that wing of research completed, Scarlet had barely even noticed the beautiful sound of a pokemon battle. He glanced up quietly, discovering that the Totodile was at was with a Sentret, one that clearly knew when to call it quits. It surrendered its spoils to the Big Jaw pokemon before dashing off, and from the looks of it, it was about time to move on.

“Hrm,” Scarlet pondered (at least after he finished enjoying his new moniker for a moment), staring up to the sky in focus while stroking his chin with his free hand. “Well, we hafta head for Violet anyway. If I remember right, there’s pretty much a split to Azalea, Goldenrod, or Ecruteak from there, so we could decide where to go once we um. Arrive.”

With his personal opinion thrown out, he flashed a grin to his companions. “Sound good to you guys?”
