"A Pirate Lord is a Lord for good reason. They are neither stupid nor rash. and sinking the Serpent is alot more difficult then her size belies. and the city isn't the only one. just the most prominent. also the most welcoming. the dragons have thier own 'cities' and I have heard stories and rumors at least of elves so adapted to the sands that they can live indefinately out here."

A small shrug.

"I think the cities problems and our...quest, I guess you can call it, are interlinked. the cities has been under an unknown seige, using the land itself as it's weapon of choice. I wouldn't be surprised if the person assaulting that city didn't have one or more of these shards we're looking for."

She was getting agitated and that wasn't good for her energy levels or anything else. His fingers slipped beneath her overtunic, just near the indentation of the bones in her hips, in practiced ease and brushed gently against her skin, attempting to calm her down. He wasn't even thinking about it, just doing it. "According to certain powers that be, Ilindal is the only true city and run by a dragon allows it top status." He didn't count the little port cities as anything worth mentioning either. "Power is not inherited simply because of death." If that were the case, he'd be more powerful than his father. "It is those who choose to hold the power and have the means to defend it whether they removed the previous lord or not. Everyone has weaknesses."

"Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised by anything I find in these sands. After all, what is sand but a blanket over land and hides many a thing." Though her pocture stiffened at the sudden feeling of gloved fingers brushing against her skin. Not because of rough texture of gloves, nor the location of said brushing, it was just the feeling in general. Her mother often commented that she was 'buttoned up to the neck' and she indeed way. Little if any of her was every exposed...when you lived in the world through touch, you wanted to be selective with area response. What did he think he was doing?

Of course she was never one for a scene unless she was trying to have some fun with tormenting the populous in innocent manner, thusly she covertly moved her hand to grasp his forearm and squeezed lightly. Savryn probably would of broken his fingers is Des wasn't there. After the initial feeze up of course. "Personally I'm enjoying all the chaos. I have a great belief that whenever there is chaos, it creates beautiful things. Tangible or intangible, it doesn't matter, I consider chaos a gift."

A slight chuckle.

"true enough, everyone has weaknesses and those with power have the means to defend it from those with lesser. but the idea of territory shouldn't be unfamiliar to you. if you were to slay a rival, you would, by the act there of, establish your dominion over those in his service. It is the way of dragons as much as it is human or elf in my experience. the strong rule the weak. the strong seek more strength, which leads them to fight eachother. the strongest ruler of the biggest expanse usually does so because there are no rivals in that expanse that can challenge him. Fang's ship rules in the Saltbed because no ship has the firepower to sink her, and no one yet has been able to catch her captain unaware or at a disadvantage away from her."

resting her chin on her fist.

"there are many Pirate Lords and Ladies, for that matter. nine in total. Each rules thier own expanse, and many have other ships in their service. all nine can form a truly impressive armada if they would trust each other long enough to be effective with it."

though her eyes moved to Sav for a moment.

"That's a dragon's mind there. blues in particular are usually as wild and erratic and thier breath weapon, and enjoy the chaos they create. It's also a reason why they are fairly rare among the chromantic breeds. no one likes their chaos quite as much as they do. and usually take precautions to ensure that they don't get overly...excited, if you get the meaning."

"Strength is a relative concept. A child could kill Fang." He'd seen it happen and been a party to it as well. "Are you then going to claim that the child lays claim to all of the Saltbeds? No, the one behind the child would lay claim as long as he could defend his position." Killing someone got another nothing as far as he was concerned. His profession had taught him that. He also knew that the Pirate Lords and Ladies could easily be taken down. All humans, dragons, and elves bled and all had ways they could die. Only deities were invincible and even they weren't immortal.

His noncomplaince to her actions only made her posture stiffen a bit more and her want to use magic on him all the greater, despite what her energy levels were telling her it was a bad idea. Thusly she squeezed harder at hsi forearm in her last gesture of warning...he was lucky he was even getting warnings. "No need to school us on such things. My father is a fine example of such things. I've seen many such things first hand." Trying to stay in the subject so as to ignore the touching. "A dragon's mind perhaps but am I not right? Chaos only becomes an ugly thing when one turns it thus or does not know how to channel it properly to better means."

"In your example, the child true, could not. but the child is not a killer, the child is a tool that was used, nothing more. and I assure you, anything that not female and under probably forty, and comes within rifle distance of Fang is dead before it gets in pistol range."

but that was neither here nor there. so back to Sav.

"that depends. many prefer an ordered, predictable world or area around them. others like you enjoy the subtle chaos. it's been speculated many times that embracing chaos can lead to insanity of the mind. a chaotic enviroment leads one ot be chaotic to survive it. that chaos, upon becoming a way of life and then thinking, leads to the unbalance of insanity."

Richards was back at the Atoll now, listening to gossip, and casually going over Hunter's loose fitting, at best, plan. he'd have to find thobias and convince him, then they'd have to find fang, then survive fang. not easy things in and of themselves, and put on top of that working in concert and all the clocks needed to strike at the same time, good lord. he needed another drink now.

He vehemently disagreed. Saying the child was nothing more than a tool implied that he was nothing more than a tool and he most certainly was not that. He was a killer, simple as that. Of course in that example a child who didn't know any better could very easily be a tool but if the child knew full well what he was doing and did it anyway, that made him a killer in Kelligrin's book. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Jolted into awareness of where his fingers had traveled by Savryn's squeeze, he stopped their gentle movements and settled back against her outer garment but in the very same spot. He'd apologize later.

Relaxing some as his fingers moved elsewhere that wasn't so nerve wracking for her, her attention zeroed in on Des...whom probably would of worded that better because she had just sparked the temper of the already cranky and drained one, also playing with those energy levels that wanted to ready for retaliation if need be. "Is that your way of leading into calling me crazy, dragoness? Or that I may be going down that road?" Hell she was already blind and a 'blood thirsty, corpse thieving, death dealing, life perverting necromancer'. She didn't need to be labeled crazy too.

"Not at all. only saying that for some it can lead there. and those few are usually, for some reason, the most seen. often the ones that are not simply aren't noticed. but that could be that the chaos they play to and work with makes them harder to see then the ones that are drowning in it. I'm pretty certain if you were on the path to insanity, we'd have noticed by now. it's not exactly easy to hide that sort of thing in closed quarters. Not to mention, your bird would be a dead giveaway. it reacts, I noticed, to your mental and emotional states. thus if you snapped or were heading that way, your bird would behave probably far more erratically and be a easy sign."

Kelligrin threw back his head and laughed uproariously. She thought she had a clue of what she was talking about! She actually did. As if insanity was that simple and chaos was the reason behind it. He knew that strict order alone could drive a man mad just as easily. "You are basing sanity on a very relative definition which is the same as assuming. As stated before, that will end your existence. Vryn's not insane." He smiled, "I am."

The three potential pirates before him were deeply into their cups now and he knew he'd get nothing more than raucous conversation out of them before they swaggered off to bed whatever beauty they'd picked out before, if they were lucky, after if they were not. The brothel supervisors were no fools and they knew what ale could do to a man's mind as well as his potency. If one of their girls did not have to perform and was still paid, all the better. Sipping his own ale, his eyes roved over the display set out before like a sumptuous banquet and he played the part of interested voyeur to perfection.

A direct look, which was rare for her, went to Chylithair who was perched nearby. He was one of those things that she knew exactly where he was all the time. "Or one may simply think him a falcon gone mad." Shaking her head lightly and giving a sigh, resting her head back against Kelligrin's shoulder for lack of someplace else to put it. That agitation was still there but she was trying to suppress it. Though she cringed away lightly at quite loud in her sensitive ears unexpected laughter from Kelligrin, causing her to lean away from his person some as well. "Quite..."

"You assume that I was making a blanket statement on insanity. I know very well that insanity takes many forms."

watching him a moment.

"I know of humans with obsessions that are all consuming, and elves who are so lost in magical studies and the need for power that they mutilate their bodies inscribing it with spells and runes. Some that hear voices that command them as if they were puppets. others who are adults that act as children and throw tantrums that are backed by decades of experience or power. We dragons do have our own insane. So which one is yours, kelligrin? perhaps delusions of grandeur? Obsessive? do you hear the voices in your head? or are you just being a smartass in hopes of humoring yourself and maybe your friend?"

Thobias. so easy to find most times. and looking to be scouting out for replacements. but that was still not a problem, easily slipping into a seat by him.

"We need to talk."
PostPosted: Wed Apr 30, 2008 11:50 am

He chuckled again, this was just too funny. "If I were assuming then I would be placing myself in the same position you did a moment ago. That would be rather silly of me, now wouldn't it?" Resettling Savryn so she was more comfortable and then inclining his head. "Perhaps. But even those are narrow definitions of insanity based on opinion alone. Although I find it amusing that you will not classify mine the way you did Vryn's."

He glanced up and folded his hands, debating on whether or not he should act drunk. Glancing over the feast of women before him, he glanced back and raised an eyebrow. "Talk is cheap but this place isn't. What's it about?"

She kept her mouth shut on the second round of debate, then again she never really was a debater. More of sit in the back and listen to what was being said, weigh the pros and cons and then decide whom she thought was right and if they needed to be sided with, then side with them. A little wrinkle of her nose though as Kelligrin took it upon himself to fix their position. "I thought we decided that I wasn't insane."
