Jett hadn't really bothered to make more small talk with his companion while waiting, figuring that there would be plenty of conversation on the way back. He glanced about the town, enjoying the nice weather. It seemed that Jasper was finished when he left the lab, and, Jett noticed with a swift glance at the blue being clinging to the boy's leg, accompanied by the same Totodile as before.
"Hey," Jett said with a lame wave when Jasper headed right up to them. When the bandana-clad boy informed them of his newest team member, the raven haired youth blinked in slight surprise. He had been given a Pokemon so easily? "Wow! That's really cool!" He was a bit jealous, of course, but it didn't show. He always made sure it never showed.
"Oh man, I hope you two become really great friends," Jett said with a small nod towards the Big Jaw Pokemon. After a small pause, he glanced towards the lab almost anxiously. Was this where they parted ways? Somewhat unsure of what to do, he merely flashed a grin to Jasper and waited to see what the other two boys would say now.

If there was one thing Scarlet never bothered to do, it was learning to shut up. Silence was terrifying. Like some horrifying absence of thought. As social as he was, he never really figured out that not everyone was like him. That not everyone had to say everything that popped into his or her head. So, as Jasper was inside handling the issue surrounding the escape of the Big Jaw pokemon, and Jett was busy admiring the tranquility of New Bark Town, Scarlet found himself growing restless. He’d gotten enough of a break fishing for Magikarp. Sitting around bored him even more than he’d prepared.
“So,” he started, staring down at Cindy. “… Your head can catch on fire now.”
She responded with a cheerful nod, flames rippling up atop her head, flames Scarlet’s hand just barely dodged with a quick retraction. Before he could even scowl, the flames fizzled out, and the Quilava nuzzled the hand she almost set on fire.
“Bleh. Guess you’re gonna hafta get used to that, huh?” With a grin, he petted Cindy once more, before the sound of an opening lab door caught his attention. Out came Jasper with a rather cheerful looking Totodile fastened to his leg. And he declared her officially his pokemon, with equivalent cheerfulness. Scarlet knew that wonderful feeling a person got when they added a new member to their team, so he returned Jasper’s smile. “Congratulations! Totodile is an awesome pokemon! You’ll probably have a blast with her on your team!”
Cindy caught the mood, reigning in her distaste for blue alligators, instead sitting quietly next to her trainer. After all, this was clearly a happy moment, and she didn’t wanna ruin it. Plus, that one knew water gun, so…
After a moment, the silence set in again, a silence that the redhead didn’t hesitate to break. “Well, Jett? We totally came here for a reason, right? If we don’t get these things, we’ll be stumbling around Johto guessing enemy types.”
And so, he started toward the entrance. But just before he entered the Professor’s lab to ask for the super advanced identification device, an idea popped into his head. “Oh,” he started, turning toward Jasper. “There’s only one direction to go from here, at least for a little while. If you wanna come with us, you’re totally welcome to!”
With the offer on the table, he turned and headed inside, Cindy right on his heel. “Professor Elm? My friend and I are here about a Pokedex! Do you happen to have any we could take?”

Mag continued to watch the contest unfold from backstage. Ryka seemed to be doing pretty well, and her super effective attacks had to be a big advantage. Even if they were matched pretty evenly in their points, due to the similar number of hits and dodges, Blitz’s super effective hits had to be doing more damage. And a fainted Pokemon was an automatic out.
“C’mon Ryka! You can do it!” Mag cheered as her thunderstorm managed to score another hit on the Poliwhirl. But when most Pokemon would be out for the count, the strange toad seemed to be even more furiously awaiting the battle. That Crenu trained his Pokemon to be tough.
***
Meanwhile, Claire and Rajasi were also enjoying their seats at the contest. The two exchanged glances at the thunderstorm, it was even more impressive in the audience than it was backstage. But, luckily for the crowd even this tremendous display was maintained within the main stage, excepting a few raindrops here and there.

((I'm so sorry Crenu, I was punished! gonk ))
Ryka grinned. It worked! She had known that storms often enhanced the power of Thunder attacks, and she was relieved when Blitz's Thunderbolt turned the rainstorm into a thunderstorm. Blitz had a massive smirk on his face upon seeing Poliwhirl struck with his lightning. That frog stands no chance!
However, Crenu's words again shook Ryka. Crushing me? Wasn't that a little....extreme for a Pokemon contest? Both Crenu and his Poliwhirl looked as if they wanted not just to win, but to destroy. This worried Ryka slightly, but no, it couldn't be true. Any trainer entering a contest had to love their Pokemon, right? Yes, that must be true. Ryka shook her sour thoughts aside, not wanting to think such a ridiculous thing during such an exciting battle.
Suddenly, Poliwhirl was sliding down the pillar of ice at a breakneck speed. He was closing in on Blitz very fast, who would no doubt be knocked into tomorrow with a direct hit. The speeding Poliwhirl was pretty much unavoidable, but a direct hit on Poliwhirl might just nullify the effects. As if he and his trainer shared the same mind, Blitz began to run towards Poliwhirl in a Quick Attack. A white hot trail followed him, his speed only intensified by the ice on the ground. The two Pokemon, speeding towards each other, finally collided in a small explosion.
So maybe speeding towards the Poliwhirl, who had much more momentum from sliding down the pillar, wasn't such a good idea. Blitz was thrown from the collision, landing a fair distance from his trainer standing on the sideline. Poliwhirl, however, seemed not to be knocked back at all. Blitz's small stature compared to Poliwhirl's, paired with the higher speed of Poliwhirl, couldn't be fought against. Ryka took note, It probably would have been more effective had Poliwhirl not been moving...
From the corner of her eye, she could see her points falling just as quick as Poliwhirl had been sliding. She gave a little grimace, but cheered on her brave little Pikachu, who tried his hardest to get up yet again, even though he was visibly struggling. "You're doing great, Blitz! Don't give up!"

((it's ok I understand. Hope your not in serious trouble.)) Shiro watched intently, what would the trainer try now? With Poliwhril speeding towards the Pikachu Crenu was taking a bit of a gamble, but this was the style that made the most logic at the moment. He raised an eye brow as Blitz started running towards Poliwhirl as Ryka commanded for a quick attack, and the stoic man smirked a little. He had to give the pair credit, attacking head on was a bold move, a real warriors choice. It one one gamble against another now and Crenu was interested in it's outcome. Pikachus in general were very fast pokemon, and his Poliwhirl's speed was only from the momentum of the ice slide. With enough speed that quick attack may have had what it took to pierce through and rout Poliwhirl's attack, but on the other hand Poliwhirl was a bigger pokemon with a lot more raw physical power on his side. The two pokemon collided in a big way and for a moment Crenu didn't know what would happen, but his faith in his plans were well invested as Blitz lost the power battle.
Ryka's pokemon was thrown hard, it almost looked like he bounced off of Poliwhirl's body when they hit. Truly a pokemon worth evolving into the muscular fighting type Poliwrath, Poliwhirl had coem to a stop and was standing strong. It was more dangerous than he though it would be, for the Pikachu's attack managed to slow Poliwhirl to a stop and even made him slide back an inch or so. Poliwhirl was giggling menacingly, but holding his stomach as well, his laughter sounding a bit stressed. That little yellow rodent just wouldn't stop being a pain in the a**! Rubbing his body Poliwhirl slowly advanced towards Blitz wanting to see the pain in his eyes, he wanted to break him! "Poliwhirl stop wasting time, don't give them a chance to recover. Ice Beam on the floor, trap him in your ice." Shiro called out calmly, his smirk gone as the battle was still going on. Shiro gave a quick glance to Blitz, then directed piercing gaze back onto Ryka's eyes. He had to respect Blitz's determination if nothing else. Poliwhirl, not to happy at first that he wasn't told to go beat the rodent senseless started to laugh again, this idea was more sinister in a way! He kicked off the wet ground hard as the rain continued to pour, the whole stage pretty much a puddle at this point. The cloud was thinning though as it's time would soon be up but that didn't matter anymore. As Poliwhirl was in the air he aimed his hands down at the floor and fired a beam of pure cold, hitting the ground and starting to form ice like before. But this time it reacted with the water on the stage as Poliwhirl spread it around, the wet stage floor quickly becoming engulfed with ice as Poliwhirl continued to pour more and more energy into the attack, the stage starting to resemble an ice rink as it rapidly encroached on the electric mouse. Poliwhirl was so excited he could drool, trapping the mouse into the ice would mean he could freely smash it all he wanted until it was a stain on the stage!

Ryka locked eyes with Crenu. She offered a smile that was determined yet friendly, but his cold gaze broke her. Turning her eyes back to the battlefield, she tried to figure her opponent out. Was he always so distant? Normally people were friendly with Ryka - whether it be her personality or theirs, she didn't know. But it was unusual to find someone so cold. Maybe it was just the heat of battle?
Poliwhirl was again using its Ice Beam, this time freezing over the whole stage. It was as if it were an ice rink, not a battlefield! Ice clawed at Blitz's paws, freezing over his toes and grounding him to his spot. He was a little frightened by this, immediately breaking the small cover of ice with a Tail Whip. Just as soon as it broke, however, it started to cover his feet again. This left him doing an awkward hopping-dance to avoid being frozen.
"Blitz!" Ryka called, an idea forming. "Use Quick Attack, again! Bounce off the walls! Neither the ice or Poliwhirl will get you that way!" Blitz nodded, taking off running on the ice. He started out slow, but the speed of his running quickly turned into him sliding on his paws all around the battlefield. He came to a wall and turned to his side, bouncing right off of it and continuing sliding. He was like a pinball, sliding and bouncing off all obstacles!

At fist Poliwhirl giggled like mad as he landed on the cold slippery floor, sliding around at first and almost falling but finding his footing, laughing at Blitz whipping the ice with his tail and hopping around to avoid getting frozen to the floor. It was the most hilarious thing ever! Shiro was much more composed, but as Ryka commanded for a quick attack he cocked an eyebrow in curiosity. "Hmm?" Shiro's eyes went from Ryka's to the battle field as he watched her counter strategy go to work. He was certain that both she and her Pikachu would panic at the ice trap and be taken, and while at first it was working the duo soon got out of it. He watched as Blitz skated across the ice fighting against the low friction and struggling to get to full speed. At first Crenu was certain it would end in failure but much to his surprise the electric mouse got control and bounced off the wall. He watched Blitz bounced from one wall to the other and bounced off the outcrops of ice that had shot up randomly from the mass freezing. This strategy was so unconventional and childish in nature he though, yet appeared to be working.
By now the rain cloud had vanished and Shiro shot a glance at the points. Hers were surely going down with Pikachu being trapped, but now that Blitz was bouncing around with Poliwhirl looking around confused his points were sure to take a deduction. And there it was, the same creative way of thinking that evolved her pokemon in the appeals and brought Ryka to the second round. But this was nothing to get rattled over, this was just another strategy to analyze and destroy with one of his own making him that much stronger. As Poliwhirl looked around at the Pikachu bouncing around he grew upset, how dare he not get caught! Poliwhirl was furious and Crenu had to think of something before Poliwhirl got out of hand. Blitz may have been moving around the ice somewhat comfortably now, but it's paths were limited to the closest thing he could bounce off of next. "Hmm...got it. Poliwhirl stay put, aim in front of Pikachu with Mudshot." As long as Poliwhirl remained stationary he would be able to pivot around and avoid getting into a random bouncing match with Blitz. Poliwhirl giggled as he looked at Pikachu, the constant high speed bouncing around making it hard to get a fix. Getting the best shot he could the Tadpole pokemon tried to aim in front of Blitz and released a jet like stream stream of thick slimy mud from the center of his spiral. Right now he was like a turret trying to shoot down an enemy fighter plane.

Totodile blinked a few times, her gaze drifting back and forth between Jett and Scarlet before she uttered a quiet "Toh" and buried her face in Jasper's pantleg. Jasper chuckled and knelt down, with some difficulty, to pat the little gator's head. "Thanks," he said, still grinning at his new acquaintances. "I'm sure she'll be a great addition, too." He considered attempting to pry the water type from his leg, but the sudden throbbing of his bruised arm reminded him of the gator's powerful bite and he figured it best to leave her as is for now.
He'd started to consider what he'd do now that he'd unexpectedly added a toothy new member to his ever-growing Pokemon roster as Scarlet and Jett had started to make their way inside to inquire about a pair of Pokedexes when Scarlet's voice made him look up. He hadn't really considered the prospect of traveling with anyone else, even if they were going the same way, but he figured he might as well. "Sure, sounds like a plan," he said, nodding as the redhead ran inside. "I'm just going to head back to Route 29, I'll see you two there," he added to Jett before he stood up again. It was only after the two boys had gone back inside the lab that Totodile decided it was safe to detach herself from Jasper's leg. "C'mon, let's head back out," he told the Pokemon. "We'll meet up with the others shortly." Totodile didn't seem to like that part of the plan, but since the bandanna-clad boy had managed to secure her freedom from the lab, she agreed, toddling along after Jasper as he made his way towards the outskirts of town.
*** Meanwhile, Professor Elm was feeling somewhat relieved now that the troublesome Totodile had found herself a trainer, and he didn't hesitate to immerse himself back in the article he'd been reading beforehand. He'd just gotten comfortable once again when he heard the sound of voices. He looked sadly towards his computer screen but stood up anyway - after all, he was here to help out new trainers in any way he could. He adjusted his glasses and stepped out to the main foyer to greet the two boys.
"A Pokedex?" he repeated, scratching his chin. "Yes, of course. In fact, I just received a new shipment the other morning. It's the latest model, including updated information on every known Pokemon to date. With these ones, you can also check the differences between genders and egg groups and breeding compatibility as well. Not to mention there's a new program on type match-ups and strategies for beginners and..." Elm continued to ramble on about all the new features of the newest Pokedex as he led the two boys to his office.

Jett lingered as Scarlett headed off, invitation thrown to the wind carelessly. The raven-haired boy waited politely for Jasper's answer, nodded with a small smile, and offered him a second congratulations on his new addition before following the redhead into the lab.
He was wowed by the whole set-up of it, really. The tall shelves and computers, filled to the brim with priceless information about the mostly unexplainable world around them, overwhelmed the boy and he gaped at them for a few seconds before following Scarlet further into the lab. He looked at the equipment surrounding him, a half-smile twisting his lips upward. It was kind of amazing, all of this stuff.
And Professor Elm, a tall man with a kind face, stepped out to meet them. Scarlet (bless him for his social skills) was already asking about Pokedexes, and the good professor began to reply in kind, listing all the features of these Pokedexes, these brand new Pokedexes, as if they were nothing. His eyes were wide with gratitude as he followed the man into his office, grin broadening on his lips.
"T-thank you so much!" he stammered when he got the chance, not wanting to seem ungrateful in the least. He also tossed Scarlet an equally grateful look because he knew that, had he come in here alone, he would've been still trying to find a way to ask for a Pokedex without seeming impolite. It would've taken an hour or two, minimum. But no need to dwell on that; they were getting Pokedexes, the professor did not seem offended by his horrible conversational skills or his laconic outbursts, and he was even further on the right path to becoming a real, successful trainer. The only other thing that dignified that status was the badge, resting in its case in his backpack. Jett smiled again brightly, confidence shining in his eyes.

There was nothing like the feeling of knowing that procrastination sometimes paid off, as evidenced by the fact that the redhead was grinning with a broadness that should’ve torn his face in half. The pair had arrived just in time, as Professor Elm said, to receive brand new pokedexes with an amazing array of features! For once, Scarlet stayed almost completely silent, only letting the odd “uh huh” or “awesome” slip out of his mouth in between nods.
Scarlet had been running blind this whole time, and it felt like showing up to test day without a pencil. The fact that he was so close to not only getting a pencil, but a super mechanical one with a built in calculator, type simulator, and strategies for each pokemon he was fighting even made him not care that his analogy was falling apart with outrageous quickness. All he cared about was having one of those amazing portable encyclopedias in his hands. A glance to the side showed that Jett was just as excited as Scarlet, who returned the grateful look with a nod.
“Thank you so much, Professor! They sound so cool!”

Ryka watched as her strategy unfolded. Blitz bounced, bounced, bouced off of the walls, pillars of ice, anything that stood in his way. She turned an amused look at Poliwhirl, who whipped around in confusion. Crenu's face, however, wasn't nearly as amusing. His searching for a counter-strategy was intensely visible on his face, and after a few moments he seemed to have found it.
He ordered a Mud Shot from Poliwhirl. At first Ryka smiled. Blitz is moving too fast, Poliwhirl won't catch him... But sure enough, Crenu had a counter for that too. Pivoting in place, Poliwhirl shot rounds of Mud Shots at Blitz, hoping to hit the speedy mouse. At first his aim was off, as he kept hitting the ice behind Blitz. But within a few shots his timing improved, and he was able to fire a nice, heavy blob of mud right in front of Blitz.
"A very good counter attack!" Ryka shouted to Crenu, all the while racking her brain for one of her own. It seemed inevitable that Blitz would hit the mud, so she tried to think of how to counter afterwards. As predicted, Blitz wasn't able to stop nearly enough, and hit the mud face-first. He stopped moving all together, looking as if he was a child playing in the mud. He definitely wasn't as happy as one, for he stood up with a glare, like a monster rising from a pool of mud! He was angry at that stupid frog for getting mud all over him, of course, and immediately tried to electrocute the thing. But the mud blocked the electricity from going anywhere, keeping Blitz from attacking.
Ryka bit her lip. "Blitz...try spinning! Find a center point on the ice and keep spinning, to get the mud off!" She knew this wasn't the best strategy, for he would be an easy target, but he couldn't do anything unless he got the mud off! Spins were always acceptable for contests after all, she figured. So Blitz dug into the mud with his foot until he touched the ice. Starting on one foot, then switching to two, he began to pivot himself, spinning. It started slowly, but as he gathered speed the mud began to fling off of the Pikachu, little patches at a time. If Poliwhirl was slow, maybe this would work after all...

Poliwhirl shot globs of mud one after another, missing Blitz every time as he zeroed in until finally he managed to trap the speedy mouse in a thick puddle of the nasty ooze. Watching the Pikachu's electricity hindered by the mud was next to perfect now that it's momentum had been robbed as well. However Ryka's spirits didn't seem to dampen at all as she even complemented Crenu on his attack. They were in the middle of a battle that for the most part he seemed to be controlling, she should have been unnerved by this yet she remained firm. "...Indeed." Crenu didn't bother looking at the score board anymore, every miss cost him a few points, he could only charge forward and hope Ryka would lose more in the end. Meanwhile Poliwhirl was having the time of his life, laughing uncontrollably as Blitz slid right into the mud and was stopped cold, he looked like an angry muddy mess and to top it off his electricity wasn't working! What a fool! Poliwhirl taunted the Pikachu over and over, doing hand stands and pulling down his eye lids at the foolish pokemon. That's what he gets for being so annoying! In his play however Poliwhirl slipped on the ice and hit his face, punching the ice and blaming Pikachu for his misfortune.
Crenu eyes Poliwhirl for a second and shook his head, that lack of discipline was surely going to lead him astray. To clown around at a time like this, so critical was it to be focused when victory wasn't yet in their grasp. Sure Poliwhirl and Crenu had been doing alright here but Ryka wasn't far behind in the competition, she'd managed to avoid Blitz taking a direct hit from Poliwhirl's Brick Break and getting trapped in the ice all while managing to get a direct thunderbolt on him. The only real hit he'd gotten on her pokemon was the Body Slam, though up until now he'd really only been using his attacks in indirect manners to set up his opponent for annihilation, perhaps now was the time to switch over to a much more brutal and direct line of combat. Crenu had been so distracted by Poliwhirl that he hadn't noticed Ryka's current move until now, and saw that Blitz was spinning around in place flinging the mud away from himself. "Damn, your clowning around lost us valuable time." Crenu said, his stone face breaking as he started showing signs of annoyance. "Use Ice Beam now while he's still open!" If Poliwhirl's foolishness cost Crenu the match he was going to find himself stranded in a volcano! Poliwhirl, who had still been cursing Blitz and punching the ice looked up and saw the fury in Crenu's eyes, immediately jumping up and seeing a spinning yellow figure which could only be the damned Pikachu escaping another trap! Poliwhirl wasted no more time and shot an Ice Beam directly at Blitz, though it's power was visibly diminished. making that pillar and Freezing the wet stage wasn't exactly a walk in the park and took a lot out of his Ice Beam. Crenu could see that this was probably his last Ice Beam of the match, but hopefully it had enough juice to do it's job.

Claire grimaced as the match between Poliwhirl and Pikachu continued. Crenu’s battle style was harsh, but it reminded the blonde of her own. As long as the team achieved victory, any hardship was acceptable. He was a quite the tactician, developing one strategy after another to trap his opponent, yet Ryka was quick enough to escape each time. The one factor that had yet to be mentioned was time. It was running out and at any moment the match could end and the only thing that mattered when it did was how many points you and your opponent had. One of them had to end it soon through a knock out or they’d be left to accept the verdict of the whims of the judges.
***
Mag continued to cheer on Ryka. “That’s the spirit, keep moving and you won’t get stuck in the ice!” Unfortunately the ice made it difficult for Blitz to control his path and Crenu had yet another tactic, shooting mud balls at the poor Pikachu. After a couple tries the frog-like Pokemon scored a hit that stopped Blitz in his tracks. But just when things seemed like the opportune time to strike, Poliwhirl seemed to be distracted by his own small victory in hitting the electric mouse and stumbled on the icy battlefield he had created.
“Poliwhirl isn’t as disciplined as his other Pokemon. That could be what lets Ryka break through his strategies.” Mag speculated as Poliwhirl launched another Ice Beam toward Pikachu.

Watching the grunts scramble over themselves as well as their Pokemon only made Keegan laugh even harder, especially now that he'd seen the aftermath of Loki's attack on the enemy Seviper. He probably wouldn't have realized the room had been shaking if he hadn't noticed Flannery's reaction to it, and he watched, impressed, as her Houndoom easily brought down its opponent with an electrified bite. Her confidence is certainly up, the redhead thought, amazed at how far Flannery had come since her first few shaky months of being a new gym leader. He also could remember back when that Houndoom was a tiny, timid Houndour, and he marveled at how strong it had become under Flannery's care and guidance.
The redhead was only just aware of the two potions being tossed his way and he caught one while juggling the other a few times, finally securing it safely against his chest only to suddenly discover that his feet were suddenly flying out from under him. All he could really do was brace himself for the rough and sudden landing he was in for, and he grunted and swore loudly, just catching a glimpse of a scaly, purple tail slithering away from him. "...Loki," he grumbled, standing up and quickly applying the first Super Potion to Althena, whom was also glaring at the Arbok until Keegan returned her to her PokeBall. Not showing any signs of remorse, Loki snorted and looked away from his trainer, pretending as if the redhead didn't exist. "Stupid serpent," Keegan growled, opting to recall the ill-behaved snake rather than try to reason with it. Neither he nor Althena had been hurt too badly, but either way Keegan figured it was a good idea to sideline the Arbok before it attempted another stupid prank.
Flannery was already way ahead of him as Keegan jammed the second Super Potion into his pocket and chased after her, suddenly very much afraid of what would happen to him at the hands of Mike should something happen to her. Keegan chuckled to himself as he raced down the corridor after the redheaded gym leader, realizing then that it was the first time he actually feared his childhood friend. He'd always held the upperhand whenever it came down to good old-fashioned fisticuffs, but now that Mike was more closely related to a Magmar than a human, the tables seemed to have turned. Either way, Keegan had no intentions of backing down from this mission now, not after letting his friend down in the past. Sure, he hadn't been directly responsible for Mike's involvement with Team Magma and the actions that followed it, but perhaps he could have tried harder to stop him, make him see what a dangerous road he was headed down. Keegan's mind was then flooded by 'what ifs' and 'should haves' and he could feel the anger and regret and guilt surging through his gut. Yeah, some friend he was.
It wasn't too difficult to catch up with Flannery, as there wasn't any option to stray from their current path. That, and the gym leader's pace had slowed significantly once she'd come upon a couple of members of Team Magma, only these poor fellows were in no condition to fight, or even speak, for that matter. Keegan knelt down beside them, assessing the damage. One of them was sporting a freshly broken nose, vicious-looking scratch marks on his face and a leg that looked as though it had been broken. His comrade lay in a smoldering heap some ten feet away, the majority of his clothing and hair having been burned off, though he seemed to have managed to put out the fire before it could cause him anything more severe than first and second degree burns. The stench of burnt hair and flesh in the area was awful, and Keegan felt his stomach turn in protest. "Mike," he muttered, getting to his feet and brushing his hands against his pantlegs. "He can't be that far ahead now," the redhead reasoned, able to hear a familiar voice just ahead of them. "Come on," he added, motioning towards Flannery, despite how apprehensive he was to catch up.

Glittering flecks of ice were still cascading down around Akima as she landed gracefully on the stage and struck a pose, absolutely relishing in the cheers she was receiving from the crowd. Despite how much she enjoyed battling in general, this was what she was meant to be doing and she took a bit of a bow as she back-stepped, having not forgotten that her opponent was there. The Sneasel glanced over her shoulder at Riza, who grinned in response. Yes, this was definitely what they were meant to be doing. Riza no longer worried about the time that was left for the match, nor how either coordinator's points looked, as she realized that even if they lost, they were on the right track. The raven haired girl smiled and flipped her hair back over her shoulder before looking back to the contest battle. David and his Wartortle seemed slightly unnerved but both shook it off relatively quickly. "Not bad," David called from across the stage. "Not bad at all, but you're going to have to keep it up if you want to win this one! Wartortle, Tackle-Rapid Spin combination, let's go!"
At once the Turtle Pokemon took off running, his white, fluffy ears tilted back some to help cut down wind resistance. Akima watched intently, not entirely sure what their opponents were up to and she wondered what Riza was thinking. It didn't take long for the Turtle Pokemon to pick up enough speed, and as soon as he did, he jumped forward, using his fluffy tail as a springboard to add to his momentum. Once airborne, it quickly tucked its arms and legs and head into its shell, which then began to spin like a top. The momentum of the run to build up a tackle easily carried over to the Rapid Spin, giving it a very nice boost in speed and power.
Riza narrowed her eyes. It wasn't an overly flashy or complicated combination, but it still looked as though David had spent a long time working on it. Frowning slightly, Riza realized it was time to start putting a lot more work into training her other Pokemon for contests, as well as working on more combinations. She couldn't rely solely on Akima and Yula for every contest, otherwise they would end up getting all worn out. The Rapid-Spinning Wartortle was sailing through the air at quite a speed, and Riza knew she had to counter this quickly, even if she used something as simple as evasion. "Akima, use Agility and dodge!" she called, hoping that the Sneasel's speed would be all that they needed. Akima nodded, feeling a surge of adrenaline shoot through her limbs as she tried to sidestep to the left. However, the spinning shell seemed to home in on her like a missile and it followed the Sneasel's movements, finally striking her in the chest and sending her skidding back about a dozen feet where she struggled to get up again, having had the wind knocked out of her. * * * * * Both Miles and Nell had been so sure of themselves and their speed that they hadn't expected the Espeon -which had been sitting there, pretty as a picture and acting as though nothing was even happening- to even bother to try and counter or defend against them. It was safe to say that the Buizel and Buneary were in for quite the surprise when their crisscrossing attacks met with a quick and sudden end, and they both let out startled cries as they slammed into the shiny green barrier.
Katie herself grimaced and smacked her forehead with her palm. She should have seen that one coming, especially with the casual way Mai had spoken to her Pokemon. "Shake it off, you two," she said, carefully combing over the two Pokemons' move lists in her mind. "Miles, try a Water Gun! And Nell, you use Pound!" Not at all discouraged by having their previous attacks blocked by the Espeon, the pair of Pokemon quickly sprang into action once again. Still relatively close to the psychic-type, Miles hopped back a foot or two before unleashing a stream of water at the feline, while from the other side, Nell quickly hopped towards her target, ready to lash out and slam the Espeon with her ears.
