Linda Lee Danvers Miss Megan Gwynn Watching Cabaret for the first time. Love love love. I liked the stage play better than the movie; having seen the stage play first it was glaring how much they rewrote to fit the actors. But Liza does a fantastic job. Agreed!
Now to make a list of other musicals you should watch... ninja

Eastwood, much like Walken, looks and sounds like he wouldn't be into ever doing a musical but both men really enjoy them. Walken loves to sing and dance and Eastwood loves to sing and compose. They have special fuzzy compartments in my heart because of it.

I'll have to see about renting it then.
Sweeney Todd was a rather good musical... And I recall Holiday Inn annoys me like no other movie.

I have a lot of deep seeded issues with the Sweeney Todd film. If you want to experience the work as it was intended to be heard then one should watch the wonderful 1982 stage filming (or buy the original/revival albums).
OH and I totally add the 2007 Company revival to musical theater DVDs. 'Cause it is awesome.

I love "An American in Paris." In fact, anything starring Gene Kelly is a good bet, but the top three are "Singin' in the Rain," "An American in Paris" and "Anchors Away" (that's the one where he dances with Jerry the Mouse). He also does a great non-dancing turn in "The Three Musketeers" (NOT the Disney remake from the early 90's).
You've all probably seen 'Chicago' from a couple years ago, which I thought was very well done, and if you haven't seen "The Producers" from a few years ago, you must see that, too. Especially you Doctor Who fans.

I love George Hearn and Angela, but I saw the revival three times- three times!- when it was on Broadway. The minimal staging and cast as orchestra really made for a unique dynamic.

If Lawrence from Office Space can be Batman, then why the hell not? On the top of musicals, my favorites are all pretty off-beat, and most of them not made for the stage. Doctor Horrible, Repo! The Genetic Opera, Across The Universe and the like. Last year, I spent months trying to convince my friends to go to Evil Dead: The Musical with me but, unfortunately, my friends are unreliable and not nearly as in love with the franchise as I am/they should be.

The minimal staging and cast as orchestra really made for a unique dynamic. Awesome yes, but not entirely unique as John Doyle did the same with his 2006 Sweeney Todd revival - although I think the cast as orchestra works better with Company than with Todd. I would have loved to see it live! I've only got PBS to aid me. crying Gene Kelly is a good bet when looking for musicals. Singin' in the Rain is a must as far as jukebox musicals go, but I place On the Town above Anchors Away if only for the more comprehensible, and original, score. Nick, you should branch out into the older/stage stuff - there are amazing things to be seen and heard mah buddy.

Evil Dead's probably the most fun musical I've seen. Plus for $20 splatterzone seats it was cheap enough to go over and over again. Really wish they'd come back to NYC, good times.
