Scarlet had yet to have a gym battle, so he couldn’t really have a frame of reference from what it’d be like to come off the victory. So, he simply blinked and nodded, patting the younger trainer on the shoulder. “Well, I wouldn’t worry. You’re really good, especially considering you just started. I see a lot more wins in your future.”
Almost immediately, the volcano pokemon barked excitedly, running back toward Route 29. While she was born in Cherrygrove, she was always relatively happy to see the place she came from. Sometimes there’d be fights to watch, sometimes there’d be trainers to fight. New Bark was a really quiet place, but when it was time for trainers to grab their starters, it was always a little livelier.
The route would be pretty short to navigate, considering there’d only be a few ledges to hop. Sure, going back to Cherrygrove would be ridiculously irritating, with lots of weak pokemon to blast out of the way, but Scarlet was more of an in the now kind of guy. So, with as much energy as he could master, he almost broke out into a sprint with his trusty Quilava beside him. The Pokedex was damn near in his grasp. Hopefully, Jett could keep up.

Jett smiled a little, sincerely hoping the older boy was right in his prediction of many victories. But loss seemed inevitable. The metaphorical dark clouds in his head seemed to disappear when Cindy barked, and he gazed at the route ahead of him. And Scarlet and Cindy took off running.
"Fly," Aerosmith commented, making his appearance once more known. He and Jett exchanged glances, and the Butterfly Pokemon shook his head. While he appreciated the time outside his spherical prison, he was tired now and needed a nap. With an understanding nod, the boy recalled his partner and found Athena's Pokeball.
If she can't like, hop really fast, I'll carry her, he thought, releasing the Owl Pokemon. I should spend some time with her outside of battle, anyhow.
"Hi, Athena, do you wanna get some exercise with me-- HOLY CRAP." Jett should've been embarassed at his loud outburst (he was fairly sure that even Scarlet and Cindy could hear it in the distance), but his tiny little owl seemed to be mutating. Then, before him, full grown, two-footed owl whose body did not consist of just her large head and interchanging feet canted her head to the left. The now fully evolved Noctowl hooted some, looked to the distance where she could still apparently see their partners, and flapped her wings a few times before she took flight.
Jett watched Athena fly for a moment fondly before he followed suit, except for the fact that he was now running at full speed to catch up with his redheaded companion instead of flying at a leisurely pace.

HOLY CRAP!
The utterance that shattered the sound barrier sent the crimson haired Scarlet spinning on his heel, jet black eyes darting excitedly back toward Jett. Why excitedly?
“Grimer!? Where!?!?”
Fortunately for anyone with working olfactory systems, Jett wasn’t talking about the sentient sewage given life by gamma radiation from the heavens. Instead, as Scarlet noticed, Athena was starting to take on her own ethereal glow. When the tiny owl stopped mutating, standing in her place was an owl some three feet taller.
“Holy crap…” Scarlet mimicked, only quieter. Cindy stared on in amazement as Athena soared over to the pair. She always thought it was super cool when pokemon evolved, but she hadn’t seen anything more than double in size before.
Scarlet waited until jet made it over before flashing him a grin. “Nice. Got yourself a Noctowl now, huh?”
He hopped another ledge, while the Quilava was still staring up at Athena, thoroughly impressed.

Jett rushed over to his friends, noting how quickly it took the Owl Pokemon to reach them. He grinned again; despite the few times he had seen it, evolution still amazed him. He couldn't wait to see how well his entire team could fight now, with one badge under their metaphorical belts and with the new moves he got for Aerosmith and Athena.
Bugsy, here I come, he thought as he hopped down the ledge, watching Athena glide ahead. Energy suddenly pent up from even more excitement, Jett began to sprint forward, deftly hopping over ledges and grateful for the harsh glares Athena would deliver to any wild Pokemon that dared to near them while she flew overhead.

"Ugh, I really hate Swalot," Keegan muttered to himself as the large Poison-type launched itself upward, preparing to throw itself into Althena with a Body Slam. "I don't think so. Althena, Psychic!" he shouted, hoping the Golduck knew what he meant. Althena gave a quick nod of agreement, having absolutely no desire whatsoever to get crushed by a flying bag of sludge. The Golduck threw up both of her clawed hands in defense, a wall of psychic energy quickly forming above her. She narrowed her eyes and braced herself as the Swalot plummeted towards her, and as it drew nearer she pushed the psychic power outward, hoping to use it as a sort of net to help catch the Poison-type. As planned, the Swalot slammed down hard against the psychic barrier, and it took almost all of the Golduck's willpower to hold it steady and keep her knees from buckling beneath her. Grunting, she pushed the energy forward, keeping the Swalot elevated a good two or three feet above her. The thing was definitely not a lightweight, but Althena refused to give in and instead poured even more energy into the attack, the gem in her forehead glowing a brilliant red as a result. With a sharp cry, Althena pushed even harder, grinning with satisfaction as the Swalot was sent flying back in the direction it had come from. The Swalot trainer let out a yelp and attempted to run, but his reaction time was far too late and both Keegan and Althena watched with amusement and satisfaction as the Poison Bag Pokemon landed solidly atop its trainer, effectively pinning him down thanks to its girth.
Loki, in the meantime, was definitely not becoming a fan of Seviper any time soon as his long body now sported several deep puncture marks from where the Fang Snake Pokemon had bitten him. He had the advantage in size, yes, but the Seviper seemed to be a bit more agile than he was, as proven by its effective dodges whenever the Arbok lunged for an attack. Finally, the Arbok let out an angered hiss and narrowed his eyes, shooting a terror-inducing Glare at his foe that caused it to freeze in its tracks, paralyzed with fear. The Cobra Pokemon glanced over at his trainer for his next order, but quickly realized he was far too concerned with the blue ducky and the big squishy, so he decided he could handle it on his own.
Loki hissed and eyed the opposing serpent, very much wanting to put an end to its turn at battle. Now that it was paralyzed, Seviper's movements were sluggish and easy to predict and Loki stared it down, already knowing just what he was going to do to bring it down. The cobra sunk low to the ground, watching his foe's every move with unblinking eyes. Seviper slithered in closer, having been ordered by his trainer to use an attack that Loki didn't hear - it didn't matter to the Arbok, because this was ending on his terms. The Seviper's tail came around fast, glowing with a bright, violet hue as it aimed for Loki's head. The Arbok seemed to grinning with delight as he easily ducked and weaved out of the way, very much enjoying the full use of his paralysis-free body. Loki waited for the perfect opportunity to strike, lashing out suddenly with his long tail and coiling it around the Seviper's neck, just below its jawline. Then, with a lightning-like movement Loki whipped him around, taking full advantage of the fact that he easily outclassed the Seviper in size, and sent the smaller serpent for a ride, loosing his grip at the last possible second. The Arbok seemed to hiss with malicious laughter as the Seviper sailed through the air before crashing hard into the wall, leaving a comically serpent-shaped indentation in the stone before it flopped to the floor with a thud. Loki looked over to his red-headed trainer for approval, but the idiot human was too busy busy laughing it up with the big blue duck to have even noticed. Loki's eyes narrowed a little as he made a mental note to teach his trainer a lesson in paying attention at a later date and time. ===== This isn't at all how I should be spending my time, Miharu thought, trying not to be annoyed as she too wandered in the direction the runaway Totodile had presumably gone, though she kept far enough away from Jasper so that between the two of them, they could cover more ground. She'd considered letting Aska out of her PokeBall to help search but decided against it, instead opting to keep all her Pokemon inside their PokeBalls for the time being. By now, they were well into Route 29, and Miharu sighed as she looked around the familiar area. The path itself was pretty straightforward for a while, but she couldn't help but pray that the Totodile had decided to go off into the tall grass or up onto the ledges, as this would make their search even more complicated.
Then, Miharu could hear the sounds of laughter and footsteps ahead of them, and she motioned to Jasper to get his attention. "Up ahead," she said quietly, picking up her pace. "I hear Pokemon." The pair of young trainers rounded a bend, and sure enough, a pair of Totodile were busy playing tag. Miharu raised an eyebrow, and looked at Jasper. "I thought you said you lost one Totodile," she said, looking back at the two Water-types, though the colouring of one of them seemed quite off. First, that oddly-coloured Pidgey, and now a Totodile, too? Something odd is going on here, she thought, but decided not to say anything about it for now, and instead stayed back from the two playing gators to see how Jasper would handle the situation.

Katie narrowed her eyes at Mai, wanting not to believe the woman, though something about her tone made her seem quite truthful. "All right, let's go then," she said, pulling Nell down from her head and putting the Buneary back into her poke ball for now, as the rabbit had been tugging painfully on her ponytails. She followed Mai out the front doors, very eager to see if the woman did indeed have an Aerodactyl with her. If so, she figured it would be quite an impressive thing to see. Excitement flared up in her heart and she laughed and ran ahead, looking back over her shoulder at Mai. "Come on, don't be a Slowpoke!" she hollered, quickly making her way west, in the direction of the forest. It wasn't too far from Eterna City itself, though they had to pass through Route 205, however short it was. The majority of the route involved crossing a wooden bridge over a small lake, and the wooden planks creaked beneath Katie's feet as she stepped onto it. It was a very nice area, and Katie smiled as she looked down into the clear, fresh water below her. She could see Magikarp and Barboach swimming around, and even a few Whiscash.
She looked back to Mai, and grinned. "Almost there," she said, her voice nearly singsong. It was odd for her, but Katie's mood was a good one, despite how badly Mai's Misdreavus had beaten Genki. The fact that she was going to train with such an experienced trainer was more than enough to make up for the loss, even though it wasn't nearly as humiliating as she'd made it out to be. When Mai was close enough Katie ran ahead again, her footsteps echoing loudly over the small body of water. Some fishermen on the bridge turned to give her dirty looks for scaring the fish but Katie ignored them, not slowing her pace again until she was standing at the entrance to Eterna Forest. 'Maybe this time I can enjoy the forest a bit more,' she thought, remembering well how she'd spent most of her first visit to this place running like a crazy person after a thieving Buneary.
((Could do a contest post but I feel that I should wait for Crenu and Ryka to catch up a bit.....))

Scarlet Pine kept trotting down Route 29, having taken hold of Cindy’s pokeball and begun tossing it up and down in simple boredom. While Jett was relatively occupied with enjoying his Noctowl’s new form, and Cindy was giggling, watching Rattata race away into the wooded areas surrounding the clearing because of said Noctowl’s watchful eye, Scarlet was busy reflecting on what he’d gotten done in his two days out.
Sure, he hadn’t gotten any badges yet. But taking on Falkner would’ve been a strategic disaster, considering the red head had one usable pokemon. So it wasn’t a terrible loss. Then there was that curbstomp of a double battle. He shivered at the mere thought of that tidal wave of death sweeping up his baby and putting her in the pokemon center. But that wasn’t super awful either. It just showed him that he had a hell of a ways to go before he reached his dream. That was fun in itself.
Now he had half of a League team, and he was on his way to get his pokedex, and not too far after, his first badge. Scarlet grinned to himself at the mere thought. He wasn’t ready for the flying gym, but the bug gym was totally his speed.
With one last toss and catch, his fingers locked around Cindy’s pokeball.
Alright. I guess it’s about time we got more serious about all this…
Suddenly, however, he picked up a near imperceptible growl coming from his Quilava. With a blink, he glanced down at Cindy, whose head was peering around tree cover.
“What is it?” Her trainer glanced over too, and who’d have thought, there were two Totodiles chasing one another. Only one of them was very oddly colored, and Scarlet began wondering if it was sick or something. “…Weird.”
Almost immediately after, he caught sight of the green-clad kid with the Pikachu, only without his Pikachu, along with Miharu.
“Hey, guys!” he called out with a wave. “You guys pick those up from Professor Elm or something?” He jabbed a finger toward the frolicking Totodiles, ignoring the aura of hatred radiating from his Quilava concerning the twin alligators.

Jett still found himself watching Athena, carefully following each deliberate swoop or spin; the Noctowl seemed to be methodically testing out her capabilities and it delighted the both of them to know that she was just new and her flying techniques would get more complex and confusing later on that could make them better battlers.
Suddenly, Athena deftly turned back and began to soar towards Jett. Almost warily, he held out his forearm, and the Owl Pokemon latched onto it, claws digging into his jacket some. He wondered why she suddenly wanted to stop flying, but his answer quickly arrived with Cindy's growling.
Jett stepped forward into view, blinking at the dual Totodiles and then at the quiet battle observer from Violet and Miharu. While he didn't particularly have against the green-haired girl, Jett still felt uncomfortable around her. He figured it was because of the frightening loss he had experienced to the Cherrygrove native.
"Hi," he said quietly, refusing to look down at the ground despite his immediate urge to. His brother taught him never to look at the ground; it might as well be a blatant scream of submission and inferiority. So despite how little he felt at ease now, he kept it hidden under a calm mask and offered both trainers a stolid gaze.
"Noct," Athena scoffed, wide eyes examining Miharu before they flickered to Jasper and finally settled upon the playing Water-types.

Tara and Danny stood on their side of the battlefield, both their pokemon excited for the prospect of a fight that didn’t involve a pokemon that could pop underground at will. Blaze watched curiously as the Rock Skin pokemon fumbled awkwardly around with a pokeball, eventually pressing in the silver button that released her superior.
Alex blinked as the white glow of light heralded the appearance of her technically-strongest pokemon, Blues. The Abra didn’t show any signs of the strength his level should’ve demonstrated though. He simply sat on the ground, sparing only a yawn, both eyes shut as tight as a bank vault.
“… Did it get hit with hypnosis during another fight?” Danny wanted to win, but beating up a pokemon that’d already been afflicted with a status ailment seemed kind of cheap.
“N-No,” Alex stammered.
“Sleep powder?”
She shook her head.
“Ummmm. Sing!”
“No… Abras just sort of do that, I guess.” At least, Blues did. Alexis couldn’t figure out why it’d be any different for any other Abras, so…
“Um. Alright. I guess we can start! Go, Blaze! Start it off with an Ember!”
Blaze was currently staring down the enemy Larvitar, eyes narrowed. His intention of taking down the rocky dinosaur with precision and skill seemed to be lost on her. Roll simply grinned happily at the prospect of getting to play, and boy did that annoy the serious little charmander. He snorted, a stream of black smoke shooting out of his nostrils, just before he tilted back his head and spat out a blazing sphere of fire that smashed directly into the Larvitar’s belly.
Roll squeaked. It didn’t hurt much, but considering this was her first battle, she really didn’t care. She almost broke down in tears, dashing off behind Alex and hugging her leg.
“…” Blaze just sort of stared. He’d never felt bad for attacking anyone on Danny’s orders, but something about that was just depressing. The lizard looked over at Blossom, who was so confused that she’d might as well have just been hit with supersonic, then at his trainer, who was just as lost.
The black coated trainer even facepalmed. This was by far the most awkward thing Dallas had ever seen in his twenty five years.
“Poor thing… Has she never been in a battle before?” Tara almost looked concerned. After all, it was the Rock Skin pokemon, which meant that it was at least rock type. If an ember scared her that bad, she was definitely in no shape to battle Blossom.
“I- U-Um… No, this is her first battle… S-Sorry…” This wasn’t going well at all. Alex fidgeted, staring at the ground, before turning to face her Larvitar and kneeling to talk to her. “This is how battles work,” she whispered.
Roll blinked. She had to get hit to get stronger? That was about as fun as leaping in front of a magnet train. Her brows furrowed as she pouted up at Alex.
“… I think it gets more fun the stronger you get, and…”
Roll’s expression didn’t change at all. At least until a voice sounded off clear in her head.
Well, it does. You’re gonna learn some pretty sweet moves soon. And I’m not gonna let you get hit anymore this fight, at least not from that Bulbasaur. So how about it?
The larvitar peeked out from behind her trainer’s leg toward the Abra, who’d yawned and started to levitate. Apparently, he was up and active now.
She looked back to her trainer, still frowning just a little. But she nodded, trotting back onto the field and shooting that charmander such an awful leer that it sent shivers rolling down his frown. Roll was totally ready now, and with Blues conscious, it might even be fun.
Alex sighed in relief and turned back to the other two trainers. “I’m really sorry,” she said quietly with a nervous grin. “I think we’re ready now though!”

Train scooched away from Maz a bit before pulling out her PokéDex. She flipped through (not literally, of course) the pages and scrolling through her Pokémon's moves. She stopped once she'd reached Growlithe's, surprised to actually see Odor Sleuth listed with the rest of his learned moves, raising her head and saying excitedly, "Hey! My Growlithe actually knows that move, Odor Sleuth!"+=+=+=+ Leon smirked lightly as the Nosepass fell, motioning Muuma back to him and pulling out her PokéBall, though he didn't recall her immediately. Instead, he held it up a bit and looked at her. The Misdreavus nodded, at which point Leon pushed the button and recalled his Pokémon, sticking it back into a pocket inside of his coat and adjusting himself to look at Roxanne.
"Thank you," He said politely, accepting the items and stowing them away in the small bag he kept hidden inside of his jacket. "Of course," He responded to her, allowing a small moment before turning to exit the gym.

"Perhaps you should tone down the macho heroism Mr. Maz, I think maybe it's a little to much for the damsel to handle in this time of crisis." Carlos said calmly, noticing Train's efforts to distance herself from him. He was sure that Maz meant no harm, he was just a tad over zealous perhaps? Either way they had to find a solution for the problem at hand which was locating the young girl's pokemon. Trying to think of a helpful solution himself Carlos was caught by surprise as Train suddenly exclamation that she had a pokemon who could use Odor sleuth. "Ah perfecto! Que bien Train, that move is perfect for identifying pokemon. If your Growlith knows the scent of your missing pokemon I'm certain he could sniff them out in an instant with Odor Sleuth. Good work."

Train's brightened mood dropped a bit, and she shuffled her feet awkwardly before finally mumbling, "Ah, uhm…a-actually, he's kind of a brand-new addition to my team, so he doesn't really… He hasn't really…interacted with my other Pokémon, honestly…" Boy she felt dumb now. Really dumb. Even if she'd only had the Pokémon for like, a day, she should've at least tried to introduce him to her other Pokémon. In fact, now that she thought about it, she hadn't really ever introduced any of them to each other…

"Oh I see, lo siento chika. Hmm." Carlos wasn't sure what to say next, for he wasn't sure if there was anything that could be done now. Growlith would be sure to find the pokemon in no time, but if he didn't have their scent then all the noses in the world wouldn't do any good. "Hmm, oh wait a second, maybe I have an idea chika. Your pokemon have spent time with your right? I'm sure they have a bit of your scent on them so there's still hope. Umm, maybe their pokeballs have their scent in them too? A little bit anyway perhaps. If you have Growlith smell the inside of their pokeballs and you them im sure the combination of scents should be easy enough to pick out, after all they've only been in the alley a short time so they shouldn't have picked up the alley smell yet."

Arachne grumbled along Route 119, her Heracross Rhino following beside her. "Stupid stinkin' sucky rain..." She trudged through the slick, tall grass, her flats caked with mud. "Why's it always raining over here, anyways!?" Rhino chirped absentmindedly, easily navigating through the dense greenery. Suddenly he stopped and twitched his head up. Arachne bumbled into him and Rhino hissed in annoyance. As Arachne muttered obscenities, a Tropius gradually emerged from the tall grass, snorting and stomping it's great hooves. "W-woah! Where did tha... Uh, Rhino, Horn Attack!" Rhino responded immediately, jumping up and ramming his great horn into the Tropius long neck. The wild Tropius stumbled back before flinging a Razor Leaf at Rhino, who took it in stride, his chitinous exoskeleton easily withstanding the grass attack. "Good, again!" Rhino launched another Horn Attack as the Tropius began using Growth. The Tropius suddenly flung a Growth-powered-up Gust at Rhino, who was lifted into the air, battered, and dropped to the ground by it's power. He stood up weakly. "Oh no... Rhino, Endure!" Rhino braced himself as the Tropius threw another Gust at him, then dove at the Tropius hornfirst. He landed a critical hit and the Tropius fell, defeated. "Phew, nice job Rhino!" Arachne looked around. "Umm... but we'd better hope we find a Potion soon, or I'll be carrying you back home to use the Pokecenter..."

Kasiya breathed a sigh of relief as she watched Winona's Pokemon take down the creepy-looking Toxicroak with ease, and she looked to Levi and smiled, very happy with the Swampert's performance, especially now that the grunts were busy fleeing with their tails between their legs. "Oh, uh, thanks," she said, nearly missing and dropping the vial of medicine that the gym leader tossed her way. The mention of challenging Winona's gym made the blonde stop and think as she turned and applied the medicine to Levi's wounds. "Well, yeah, at some point," she said, nodding. The last and only time she'd battled with the gym leader, it had ended with Fang's defeat, but she figured that since it wasn't an actual gym match, it didn't count. She also hadn't seen a gym battle in quite some time, with her match against Flannery being the last one she'd been in. There was that, and it would be nice to have two Hoenn badges to go along with her six Kanto ones.
Once the potion had been used up on the Swampert, Kasiya thanked her again and recalled her back into her Pokeball, knowing well that Levi was rather uncomfortable in all the heat. She too was feeling quite uncomfortable, but she had no intentions of showing it as she wiped the sweat from her forehead and turned to look at Winona again. "I guess we should continue on then," she said, nodding to the door the grunts had used as their escape route. I wonder how the others are doing, she added to herself as an afterthought, the very idea augmented as the entire room trembled suddenly from a distant explosion.
=-=-=-=-= Flannery also felt the ground beneath her shake violently from the nearby explosion, though she didn't lose her focus and instead pointed to her opponent. "While they're distracted, Houndoom! Tear into 'em with your Thunder Fang!" The canine in question didn't hesitate to comply with his trainer's command, and with a snarl he raced forward, his jaws already rippling with electricity. Houndoom fully intended to bring down his opponent with this attack, so he went right for the throat, ducking and weaving before he lunged, feeling quite elated by the cry of pain his foe let out. The electricity surged through his fangs and flowed into the opposing Houndoom - easily a critical hit, though Houndoom did not loosen his grip until he felt his target go limp, and he let the other Houndoom fall to the ground, snorting out a puff of smoke as he trotted back to Flannery's side, his lust for battle still very much unquenched.
Flannery placed her hands on her hips and glared at the grunt, but he was already in the process of recalling his Pokemon and running away. "See now?" the redheaded female shouted after him. "That's why I'm a gym leader, got it?" Houndoom let out a howl of victory and bared his fangs at the retreating grunts, looking over at the other redhead as Loki the Arbok and Althena the Golduck handily defeated their opponents as well. "Hah! Yeah, that'll show them!" Flannery cheered, kneeling down and taking a Super Potion from the small bag she wore around her hips. Houndoom hadn't been hurt too badly, but she didn't want to take any chances and she applied the medicine before returning the canine to his Pokeball. "Come on, Keegan, we need to catch up with Mike," she said, tossing him a pair of Super Potions as well before she darted down the narrow hallway, somewhat fearful of what she would come upon.
=-=-=-=-= Mai had only just passed through the sliding doors that lead outside when the orange-haired girl practically raced past her, giggling excitedly. Mai blinked a few times but quickened her pace as she followed after the overexcited girl, ignoring the Slowpoke comment but figuring they'd at least they would make it to the forest in record time. It was amazing how quickly the scenery around them changed from a bustling city street to a quiet, grassy path, and then to the expansive, wooden bridge stretching across the small lake that covered a section of Route 205. Mai's high heels clicked loudly against the wooden planks with every step she took, and she too received many angry looks from the nearby fishermen. Instead of ignoring them, however, Mai simply returned their angry glances with an icy glare of her own, and it was more than enough to make them turn away from her.
The purple-clad woman came to a stop next to Katie, and she placed her hands on her hips as she studied the entrance to the forest. She hadn't actually traversed the place before, as she'd taken the southeastern shortcut that cut out the majority of the forest paths. "Well, let's go" she said, one hand still resting lightly against her hip as she set foot into the forest, looking up at the sky as it was all but swallowed by a dark canopy of tree leaves. This place reminds me of Viridian Forest back in Kanto, she thought, wondering if this place was crawling with Bug-type Pokemon. Not that they bothered her though, as a simple burst of flame from Kero would be more than enough to send them scattering. The two females walked a little further, stopping only once they'd reached a clearing that would make for an excellent training ground. That, and there was enough sunlight shining down on them that it no longer felt like nighttime. There was also a creepy-looking cabin just off in the distance, but Mai had no intentions of going ghost walking just now. "This will do," she said finally, looking back to the younger girl. "So. How easy do you want this training to be?" she asked, smirking a little. She had no intentions of letting the girl walk all over her, but she didn't feel like causing undue harm to Katie's Pokemon, either. Her fingers closed around Giggles' Pokeball, as she figured Katie was still hell bent on seeing the Aerodactyl for herself.
