"Doesn' mean I's sleepin'," Vergil muttered. He curled up into an even tighter ball. "Always gotta lay down af'er I fall down'a stair ..."
He cracked one eye open and looked up at Cindy. "Was it a big fall, Mother? I hurt all over ..."

"Well you fell off the table last night, but I can't tell if it's the fall or the fact you grew," she told him bluntly deciding it was best to clear it up right then and there that whatever he dreamt it wasn't what actually happened.
At least she assumed he had been dreaming.

Vergil stared at her through his one open eye, then turned his head ever so slightly and opened his other eye to stare at her as well. His brow furrowed slightly. That was ... strange. To say the least.
"But ... it's not a big table," he murmured. "I've fallen a lot further before ... and it never hurt like this ..."
He blinked slowly.
"Grew?"

Cindy had to smile at that, it was obvious that it hadn't quite clicked in yet.
"Yes Vergil, you grew," she told him softly.

Vergil blinked again, then held up his arms, straight up in the air, and stretched his fingers as far as he could. He stared at his fingertips.
"So ... far," he murmured, his voice filled with amazement.
Then he wiggled his toes, looking at the blanket to see exactly how far away they were. He tilted his head one way, then the other, and then looked back at Cindy again.
"I did grow!" he exclaimed slowly.

She covered her mouth to try and hide the smile, it was so adorable when he was surprised. Granted this was one thing she was sure Vergil had not expected at all.
"Yes you did," she held out his sword, "And so did Yamato, Miyuki brought it."
She nodded to the door where the family was.

Vergil's eyes grew wide. "Yamato!" he exclaimed. He tried to turn, to throw his blankets off so that he could grab his precious blade from Cindy, but the pain was too much for him - he could hardly move. Probably for the best, as he was still stark naked.
He looked at his mother helplessly and held out one hand. "Yamato," he whispered pleadingly. "Please ..."

She never did understand his dependency on the sword, but she gave it to him anyways. He was very sore after all and he deserved to have a bit of comfort.
"Here, just to hold."

Vergil nodded as he took the sword from Cindy. He had promised before coming that his sword would stay in its sheath while they were there, and he had no intention of breaking his promise now. He took the sword carefully, almost as if it was a baby, and cradled it in his arms.
"Yamato," he murmured, his eyes glistening as he looked down at it. "You grew, too ..."

"You rest now," Cindy told him, "And we'll see about a soak later."
She figured that would help him the best at the moment. Then getting up she made her way back over to the trio at the door. She had to admit, sometimes she was a bit unnerved by the sort of attachment that Vergil displayed towards his sword.
"Thank you for bringing it back," she murmured to Miyuki.
Miyuki smiled brightly, she was glad she could do something helpful. "You're welcome!"

Earendil stared at Vergil for a moment, but as Miyuki spoke, he put one hand on her shoulder and smiled down at her. "Miyuki is very helpful," he smiled. His eyes wandered back to Vergil, and his brow furrowed slightly. "Is it just me? Or is his attachment to that sword ... almost frightening?"
It was as if the sword was his child or something ...

Cindy repressed a sigh, she had hoped that Vergil would grow out of it so to speak, but after nine years it didn't seem like it was going to happen any time soon.
"It is... unusual," she admitted, "But it isn't often children come with swords neither."

"Like an accessory," Earendil quipped. He shrugged. "Maybe it was put into his vase or something before he was born - Storm and Starr had things that were put in their vases that they were particularly attached to ... though I have to admit, I can't think of anything other than their clothes that grew when they did."

"Normally it's just clothes if they're that lucky," Cindy replied.
"I never grew with my clothes," Lin responded to that well known fact.
Of course Earendil should know he was there for most of her growths and she always ended up borrowing dresses from Tinuviel.
"I know, we would never get to see you in a dress outside of holidays otherwise," Cindy replied wryly.

"Made for a few awkward situations," Earendil added with a soft chuckle. "But no harm ever came of it."
He looked down at Lin. "You never had the pain that came with it though, did you?" he asked her. "Not like this, anyways." He nodded in Vergil's direction.
