"It's no trouble at all," Miharu replied, wincing at the sight of Jasper's bruised arm. "That looks incredibly painful," she said, shaking her heard. "You're definitely lucky that it was a beginning-level Pokemon, and not a stronger one or you might have lost your entire arm." She closed her PokeDex and slipped it into her pocket as she walked towards the window Jasper had indicated, her eyes glued to the ground. "Well, there are some footprints here from where it landed," she said, pointing to a set of small tracks in the ground which started right outside the window. "They seem to be leading this way," she pointed, "but the ground is harder over here so there is less likely to be any more prints. At least this points us in the right direction," she said.

At the mention of Sam, Miharu shrugged. "She had other things to attend to for right now," she said, wondering if Sam was having any luck fishing herself up a Chinchou. "I decided to let her be, but I'm sure we'll meet up again later." After all, she does have my Good Rod and I will want that back at some point... she added to herself mentally.

It was quite satisfying to watch Winona's Tropius bring down the Hitmontop so easily, and it appeared that the Lickitung was next. Kasiya let out an impressed whistle at the sight of the Skarmory, but she quickly focused back on her end of the battle. The Sandslash hadn't moved much since it had been released from its Pokeball, but when it saw its partner in crime get taken out so easily by the leafy dinosaur, it hesitated even more. Seeing the Sandslash reminded her of Digger, and she idly wondered how he and all the rest of her Pokemon were faring back at Oak's place. It would have been easy to bring the Ground-type down with another Surf attack, but Kasiya figured that was a bit too much overkill. "Ice Beam, Levi!" she called, watching as the grunt recalled his fallen Hitmontop and sent out another Pokemon in its place.

"I got this one from my cousin in Sinnoh," he said, chuckling menacingly as a blue, bipedal Pokemon appeared. It had black and red markings, and a large red balloon-like thing just below its chin. "Say hello to my Toxicroak! Give 'em a Mud Bomb!" The Toxic Mouth Pokemon didn't appear to be all that happy about the battle it had been thrown into, but it obeyed its trainer. The sac on its throat bulged a bit before it opened its mouth and sent a glob of mud spiraling towards the Swampert. There wasn't anything Levi could have done about it either, as she'd only just finished firing a concentrated beam of icy energy at the Sandslash. The Mud Bomb cut off her Ice Beam preemptively, which was probably the only thing that kept the Ground-type conscious for this round. Seeing an opportunity to strike now that Levi had been struck by a glob of muck, the Sandslash darted forward, jumping up and slamming a glowing claw down on Levi's forehead.

The Swampert staggered back, growling angrily at the offending mouse Pokemon. "Finish it off with a Water Gun!" Kasiya shouted, deciding that she'd had enough of the Sandslash. Levi didn't hesitate to comply, quickly shooting off a stream of water at the Ground-type. Needless to say, it didn't end well for the Sandslash and it was knocked out pretty much instantly. Levi huffed at her fallen opponent and then turned back to the Toxicroak, fully intending to bring it down next.

Flannery was far too concerned with the Houndoom that had just been released to be paying too much attention to Keegan's battle, though she did note that his Arbok and Golduck seemed much stronger than the last time she'd seen them. Her own Houndoom didn't seem to be too worried about its foe, even though it appeared that it had seen more battles, or at the very least, far harsher ones. Its face was scarred in several places and there were deep gouges in the bone protrusions from its back. The pointed end of its tail was also missing, though the thing that caught Flannery's attention the most was the fact that one of its curved horns had been broken clean off. That thing looks mean, she thought, frowning. Really mean, and that's saying something because I thought my Houndoom was mean... She took a deep breath, and nodded to the opposing canine. "Okay Houndoom, let's show them we mean business! Start off with your Thunder Fang!" Snarling, the canine belonging to the fiery gym leader darted forward, his fangs rippling with electricity.

The grunt's eyes opened wide at the sight of the strange move, and he commanded for his own Houndoom to dodge. Flannery's, however, had no intentions of losing his target and he kept with it, finally chasing it down enough to sink his electrified fangs into its shoulder. It let out a howl of pain and whirled around, jaws snapping viciously as it tore into Flannery's Houndoom with a bite of its own. Houndoom didn't appear to be too injured by the attack, and Flannery quickly realized that the opposing Houndoom had probably just been in many harsher battles than hers had.

The redheaded-female then called out for a Sludge Bomb attack next, and the canine was quick to send a glob of sludge flying towards his opponent, though the enemy Houndoom had no troubles dodging it. "Take down that wretched thing with a Headbutt!" the grunt shouted. "I don't care if she's a gym leader or a world leader, we're not letting her go any further!" The grunt's Houndoom veered out of the way of the ball of sludge and then lunged at Flannery's Houndoom, giving him a solid slam with his forehead.

Mai couldn't help but chuckle at Katie's reaction, but she just shrugged. "It's true," she said simply. "Mind you, I did not capture it. It was... a gift to me, for doing my job well and proving my loyalty. But I do have it. I wouldn't lie about such a thing." She lightly touched the sphere on her own belt that currently contained the interestingly-named Giggles, thinking about the creature's somewhat nasty disposition. Giggles had a tendency to try and bite just about anyone who came too close to him, though the first time he'd tried to bite Mai would also be the last, as she'd promptly ordered her Blastoise to blast it with a Hydro Pump.

"Hmm, ambitious, aren't we?" Mai replied, unable to suppress a smirk. "Very well then; I suppose my mint chocolate chip will have to wait." She wasn't sure where they would go, as she didn't feel like trekking all the way back to where they'd battled previously. "Let's head back towards the forest," she suggested. "Perhaps I will be able to find a Buneary of my own." She gestured for the girl to follow her, a devious smirk appearing on her face as she turned towards the front doors. This would be an excellent opportunity for her get a good look at the girl's other Pokemon.

Jake breathed a relieved sigh when he saw just how effective Turtwig's Absorb had been against the tough little Cranidos, and he knew the Tiny Leaf Pokemon would be mightily grateful for all the health he would have regained from it as well. They wouldn't get a chance to attack again right away though, as the Headbutt Pokemon made a hasty retreat into the sand and stones to regroup, and Jake decided it was a good idea for Turtwig to do the same.

"Go ahead and use Withdraw," the blonde said, running a hand through his hair. He could feel the sand matted in it, and he cringed, knowing just how badly he'd need a shower once this was all done. Turtwig, indeed feeling quite refreshed decided he liked the idea of bolstering his defenses, as that last Headbutt had really hurt. He pulled his arms and legs in as best he could, feeling the strength of his shell increase to offer him more protection from the Cranidos' attacks.

Things were looking bleak at this point, with Turtwig's eyes full of sand and Starly slowly pecking down the Tiny leaf Pokémon's health down little by little, with him unable to properly fight back without missing the flying target. Kai stood firm however, looking around to see if anything to help the situation, whilst keeping his companions sprits up via careful commands. "Incoming from the right, withdraw!"
Turtwig hardened his hide once more- he could have been commanded to dodge the attack, but honestly Turtwig was pretty lousy at evading by nature, so his efforts were better placed in bulking up his defences whenever possible, however possible.

"Tall grass.. a pond but Turtwig can't swim in... wait a sec..." Kai spoke to himself, apparently gaining some sort of inspiration. "Turtwig, run over a few feet to your left- toward the ponds edge!" the boy asked urgently, Turtwig bounding over to the position described; "Now, when it comes in to peck, angle your body slightly to the left!"

The Starly, caught in the spur of the battle, didn't think it right to give it's opponent some time to recuperate, diving inward for another vicious peck attack, which hit dead on... just as planned. Though the beak connected this Turtwig's back and the small grass type took a fair bit of damage, the momentum caused by the attack caused the bird to keep going- directly into the pond. With a large splash, water cascaded outward, and onto Turtwig. By using the commotion and splashes of water from Starly going in and getting out of the pond, Turtwig managed to clear away the sand from his eyes, regaining proper accuracy!

"Brilliant, good job Turtwig!" Kai praised, smiling contently as things were looking a lot better. The Starly, soaked to the bone kept trying to fly back up, but with its feathers so water-clogged it wasn't getting far at all. Panicking slightly, it tried to whip up the ground beneath it for another Sand attack. "Not this time- Turtwig, tackle it at full force!" Bursting forward with everything he had, Turtwig slammed into the wild Starly, knocking it far backward... and after a few twitches and a heave, it was clear the miniature flying type was fainted and defeated at last.

"Alright then, great work buddy." Kai praised, walking over to Turtwig who was panting heavily, obviously now realising how close he was to keeling over himself. With a nod of understanding, Kai took out one of the potions he had stocked from the shop from his backpack, and sprayed the contents of it on Turtwig, revitalizing his health points and generally clearing up any scratches or cuts he had gained during the last few battles. Potions cost a fair bit of money, but Kai knew it was all worth it in the end if Turtwig could keep on training- after all, they still had work to do before they could challenge the Gym leader in the reasonably nearby Oreburgh city.

Kilik and Cable hustled down the hallway at a breakneck speed, feeling as if he was leaving Mitsu and Sasha in the dust. As it was; he was much taller than both of them and his long legs could carry him farther as well. He looked over his shoulder to make sure they were still running after him and he waved his arm to signal that he was quite aware they were there and he wouldn't leave them behind. He could hear the sounds of battling going on deep within the base, and an odd cackle that he could only believe to be Mike. Kilik turned a corner and skidded to a halt in front of a very large and very brutish looking Magma Grunt. The man was taller than Kilik by a good few inches, and looked to be as ripped as a Machamp. And here was scrawny Kilik, putting his fists up as if he were going to fight the Grunt himself. "You ready for a battle, Cable?" Kilik asked, looking at his Electivire and jumping back behind him. "Let's see what you can really do now!"

Cable stomped forward, flexing his arms and letting out a proud cry. "Ele...VIIIIRE!" he donned his smirk and leaned forward, itching for a battle. His fingers were practically twitching with excitement.

"GOOOORRAYAHAHAHA!" the man laughed heartily, pulling his hood down. He had slick black hair that was tugged into a long ponytail. "The boss mentioned a buncha kids running through here! Didn't think they'd be so puny looking though!" He made eye contact with Sasha and Mitsu as they approached, "or girls! You all got guts, but I'm afraid it's the end of the line!" His voice was quite deep and meaty. He pulled a Pokeball from his belt and let it fly, and sure enough, it was a big brutish Pokemon: A Machoke.

"Give 'em a Low Kick, Machoke!" And the muscle Pokemon ran forward, sliding along the ground and sweeping Cable's legs out from under him.

Cable stumbled back and fell, hitting the ground rather hard with a light groan. The mighty Electivire, unwilling to be bested so quickly, stood right up as if nothing had happened and waiting for a command to be issued. When Kilik called for a "Thunderpunch", he was glad to oblige. Charging up his fur through his right arm, Cable's right tail lurched forward and gave his fist an extra boost as it slammed hard into the Machoke's gut. "El...ec...VIRRRE!" He cried, sending a shock through the Machoke's system before jumping back, smirking over his shoulder at his trainer.

"Great job, Cable!" Kilik cried out, jumping up excitedly. Man! That was insane! He watched Machoke fall to the ground and bounce a few times, getting up rather feasibly. Shocks of electricity flashed around him, signifying that he had been paralyzed. "Wow, look at that! Still think we're puny, hot shot?" Kilik gave his opponent a thumbs up and then thrust his thumb downward.

The Grunt clenched his fists and looked over at his Machoke with a grin. "You may have Paralyzed my Machoke, but now that you've done that, he's grown even stronger!" The Pokemon's championship belt flashed and gave a bright glow around the Machoke before it dimmed and went out. The Pokemon's muscles began to bulge and he smirked at Cable in return. His Guts had been activated.

Round 2, huh? He's gonna have to try and catch Cable first!

Having become tired of the grunt's now grating shrieks of pain, Mike delivered unto him a swift kick to the side of the head, providing the last bit of physical trauma needed to shut the poor sap up. "Very sorry," he said, kneeling down and running a gentle finger across his cheek. "It's probably not even your fault." Looking at the man's mangled form, he couldn't help but feel a sense of kinship, however slight. "Difference being of course, you will live." he said offhandedly.

Scarring, elongated, but permanent. Milo said in summery. I love it. He'll certainly feel a creak in his bones whenever it rains. Now tell me, and be honest. Wasn't that fun?

"It...was." Mike replied, a slow smile replacing his earlier look of melancholy. "The sounds, the sight. Yes. But no death! Only pain. Pain is the method I will teach these people that their choices are wrong. I'm saving them you see?"

Mmhm, Milo said, leaning on Mike's shoulder and resting his head in his hands. Of course, of course. It's not that you enjoy gifting pain on others so you aren't alone in your wimpy suffering or anything. It can't be. The phantom perked up when he saw three more Magma grunts rush down the hallway. Ooh! More fun! Let's trash some more trash! He whirled around to the boy's other shoulder. Who are you going to use now? Oh wait. No, don't use him. Use anyone else, please.

Mike smirked. "Let's show them who's boss, Portabello!" With a flick of the wrist the boy let an Ultra Ball fly that held his beloved Breloom. The Pokemon materialized in a quick burst of light and turned to his trainer.

Hello mast- the mushroom Pokemon started, only to be interrupted by Milo lifting his arm and morphing it into the shape of the Breloom's head, and extending his knife-like fingers on his other hand to 'impale' it. -er. And salutations to yourself, monster.

Milo hissed.

"Hey, P.B." Mike said, ignoring the two's exchange. "You know the drill. I need you to stomp some Pokemon for me." The Breloom nodded in reply, leaning to the side to get a look at the grunt on the ground. "He's alive."

Unfortunately. Milo added.

"ANYWAY," Mike cleared his throat, turning to his Pokemon. "What I need now is a quick, decisive, and embarrassing loss for them. If you need backup just tell me. You know I won't think any less of you."

I will not let you down, Master. said the Breloom. He about-faced quickly and assumed a battle ready stance.

"You never do." Mike said with a smile, his voice giving off a hint of nostalgia.

"Um, excuse me," one of the grunts asked, putting his hands on his hips. "Are you done gossiping so we can take you to our boss now?"

Ooh, a girl. Milo said. How niiiice.

"Oh, I fully intend to go see Maxie." Mike said tauntingly. "I very much do. However, I'll do so at my own pace, after I completely demolish this base of yours. And none of you are going to be able to stop me." The boy stepped to the side, revealing the collapsed and mangled grunt on the ground he had become so intimately acquainted with just minutes prior.

"Mark!" the female grunt cried out. "You freak! You're going to pay!" Milo hummed a laugh at the girl's now trembling voice. The three grunts then released their Pokemon: a Camerupt, Loudred and an Electrode. Portabello narrowed his eyes at the sight of the electric sphere. "Well?" the girl asked, irritated. "Are you going to release your Pokemon?"

"What?" Mike said, looking away from his nails. "No. I think this one will be just fine for now."

"Violent and stupid," she said with a confident chuckle. "I'll be doing the world a favor by bringing you down! Camerupt, Focus energy!" she ordered. The Eruption Pokemon grit its teeth and took in a deep breath, blowing smoke out of its nostrils and humps as it geared up for its next attack.

"Loudred, Stomp!"
"Electrode, Sonicboom!"

Mike shrugged at her proclamation. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and tried to think clearly. Portabello, dodge and go after the Loudred first with a Mach Punch.

Yes, master! the Breloom replied, his trainer's voice rang inside his head, but it was much less cluttered by other voices now thanks to their earlier mediation. I hear you loud and clear now.

Great. Now show these clowns how we run it.

Portabello watched as the Electrode spun in place, firing a quick flying blast of energy towards him. However, due to the Breloom's honed reflexes, it only made a small crater in the ground where he was just standing as the mushroom darted off towards the Loudred at top speed. The Loudred raised his large foot, but before he could even start to bring it down, Portabello's arm shot forward and caught the Pokemon square in the stomach. Momentarily stunned from the pain, the Big Voice Pokemon was helpless as Portabello swept his other leg out from under him and delivered a swift spin kick that sent it flying into the wall. It hit the rocks with a tremendous crash and fainted on the spot, unable to even whine out in pain. It's trainer recalled it in horror.

"Camerupt! Take Down!" the girl grunt screamed, her voice even more shaken. The camel let out a deep-chested bellow before charging, lowering its head. Portabello slid his clawed foot to the side and stood his ground, calming his mind and re-centering his focus. His grassy skin began to weave together, strengthening his defensive power as well as adding a bit more pack to his punch. It was a move he had not used in a long time: Bulk Up.

Not nearly as heavy looking as Sir Kilik's Lairon. the Breloom thought. And he was right. The camel continued to charge, suspecting he would topple this puny grass Pokemon with ease. Portabello sunk his claws into the ground and raised his hands, catching the Pokemon mid-sprint. Both the Camperupt and its trainer were completely dumbfounded when the Breloom not only halted the charge, but easily lifted the attacking Pokemon off the ground and threw it aside. The Electrode rolled out of the way just in time to avoid being squashed.

"Uhh," one of the grunts started, realizing he was the only one left with an active Pokemon on the field. "Electrode, use-!"

Oh no you-

"Explosion!" The electric Pokemon began glowing a bright white, building up energy until it couldn't contain it anymore and burst. It sent out a huge shockwave which kicked up dust, dirt and rocks, flinging them in all directions. When the smoke cleared, Portabello stood tall, completely un-phased and surrounded by a green shield.

-don't. he finished, lowering the shield and letting out a soft exhale.

Jasper blinked at Miharu's bluntness, but he nodded. "Yeah, yeah, I know. It was a dumb move but I got lucky. Happens a lot, I guess," he mumbled, rubbing absently at his arm as he followed after the green-haired girl. Jasper also realized that he should have thought of looking for footprints, as now that they were closer to the window, he could see now that the flower bed beneath it had been trampled. "Figures," he muttered, scratching his chin and looking around. The tracks indeed went in the direction Miharu had indicated, but as they neared the main road, they virtually disappeared. "Too bad it wasn't snowing, then we'd have no trouble tracking it down," he muttered, looking up to the sky to see if Ditto/Pidgey was around, but it was nowhere to be seen, at least for the time being. Jasper sighed and started heading in the direction the footprints had lead, wondering just how long it would take to track down the AWOL gator.

Meanwhile, the Transform Pokemon in question was making a lot more progress than the two humans were, as being able to transform into a bird certainly made life easier for Ditto. Other Pidgey that were native to this area kept giving him odd looks, but he ignored them and kept his gaze on the ground, which admittedly would not have been as good had he not been able to copy the Pidgey's Keen Eye ability as well as its species. Relatively shortly into his flight, Ditto did spot something blue moving at a relatively quick pace towards Route 29. Every now and then it would look over its shoulder to make sure it wasn't being followed, and in doing so managed to trip over a small rock and face-plant the ground. Trilling lightly, Ditto swooped down and landed beside the fallen gator, lightly touching it on the head with a wing. The Totodile gasped and jumped to its feet, staring at the bird in front of it with awe. Ditto chirped a greeting and then promptly shimmered back to its base form, waving a goopy arm at the still-awestruck Totodile.

Now recognizing the blobby Pokemon, Totodile offered a small, toothy smile, but reverted back to sad-face relatively quickly, seemingly still upset about the incident back at the lab. Ditto thought hard for a moment, then focused on the gator in front of him. After a moment or two, his body shimmered again and he transformed into a duplicate of Totodile, though he sported a teal-colour instead of the normal blue, and the fin-like appendages on his back were a darker blue as opposed to the regular red. Quite pleased with himself, the Ditto-dile hopped up and down a few times, seemingly forgetting that he was supposed to be helping to bring the gator back to the lab, and instead decided that now was a good time for a game of tag. Ditto reached out swiftly and tagged Totodile's shoulder before dashing away, giggling madly. It took a moment or so for Totodile to clue in, but once she had she gave chase, also laughing happily.

Hayley was far too happy to have her Pokemon back at full health as she dashed out the front doors of the Pokemon Center to even think about looking where she was going, and not two steps out the doors did she run full-tilt into a boy, easily a year or two older than she was. "Hey, what gives?" he demanded, picking himself up off the ground and glaring at the brunette. "What do you think you're doing?"

The boy hadn't been the only one to hit the ground hard; Hayley had practically bounced off the boy's front only to land hard on her left side and send a searing pain shooting throughout her hips. "Ow, ow, ow!" she wailed, looking up at the young man she'd plowed into apologetically. "Sorry!" she said, somehow still smiling. "I wasn't watching where I was going."

"Obviously," the boy grumbled, brushing the dust from his jeans before he studied the girl again. She was kinda cute and she had two Pokeballs at her waist, so the young man smiled. "Rookie trainer, aren't you?" he asked, and Hayley nodded, still grinning away. "Well then, you can make it up to me with a battle. Let's go."

I seem to be waking up in strange areas again. I look over to my left, yep he's there. Zii is amazing. I lost count of how many times I have been saved by him. Argh! My head hurts!

I begin rising from the soft pillow only to find my body give out. What is going on? My body has never felt so limp. I do not understand. Zii's ears twitch as he wakes up from his sleep. I wonder how long he has been next to me. It would help if I knew what day it was when I became sick.

The nurse comes in with another IV bag. "What is that?" I ask with a dry mouth.

"This is a cleaning solution. We have to clean you out. It seems the poison from your new grimer has lowered your immunity system and allowed hundreds of tiny bacteria into your lungs and blood system. We have to clean your body of the bacterias. You are lucky your Zangoose got you here when he did. Pokemon know when a life is going to wither away and his keen senses came in handy. He must be a strong survivalist to be able to use that ability very well."

"Yeah, Zii is an angel." I say while redirecting my eyes to his tired eyes. I think I worried him way too much.

"Your family had visit you, but you were asleep for too long to see them. They had much work to take care of." The nurse said while injecting more watery stuff into my blood.

"That's nice of them." I get out of my mouth before feeling lightheaded. I can only assume it was the medicine.

----------------------------

I may not be smart right now, but I know a few things. The chairs in the Pokemon Center are not comfortable enough to sit and eat without hunching. I would have had to keep the rice balls on my knees. If anyone has ever tried that they would know it's uncomfortable. Plus, sitting where I am, not many people can see me. It's a win win situation in my favor.

Mach is sitting next to me, recently released from his ball to share some food with me. Chansey has offered Mach some bitter berries and some pokeblocks. He was super happy to have food in his stomach, and so was I. We smiled at each other while swallowing down the yummy food. In all honesty the food could have been bad but a wise man once said, "Hunger is the best spice." That man was a fighter in an anime I once watched while I should have been doing homework at the pokemon academy. I like to say the character has influenced a big part of my life, but that part would be sitting around while watching clouds pass by in the day sky.

I just finished my food, and I remain leaning against the lower left part of Nurse Joy's counter. Mach begins chasing his pokeball around the floor as he freezes up. He is staring at the front door.

I look around the corner and see that cute girl I passed while running from that damn Pidgeot. All I hear is, "Ow ow ow." Coming from the girl and some incoherent blabber from the guy. I notice his eyes are looking at her hips. Her hips are a bit smooth, not formed at all like Nurse Joy's. I then notice his eyes are on her pokeballs. I understand his intentions. This is going to be interesting. My first time being a spectator in a pokemon battle. I should have paid attention to them in gym, but I lacked motivation. I don't have to watch them to understand them. But, this should atleast be entertaining. I'll follow them.

"Good work, Kasiya!" Winona said, nodding at her battle partner. "You ever gonna pay a visit to my Gym for an actual challenge?" she smirked. "Tropius, Synthesis while that frog is distracted!" While her Pokemon regained some health, Winona pulled out her Pokedex and analyzed the Toxicroak. "Poison and Fighting, Kas." the Gym Leader called out. "Leave it to me. Tropius, Skarmory, dual Aerial Ace, X formation!"

With a roar and a shriek, both of Winona's Pokemon flew into the air and circled above the frog Pokemon. It lobbed a Sludge Bomb at Tropius, who barely dodged the attack. "Attack now!" The flying Pokemon folded in their wings and dove down, striking the Toxicroak on both sides. It spun like a top and crashed to the ground, down for the count. The grunt recalled his Pokemon, and joined the other two in fleeing.

"You'd think that since they know me, they wouldn't send out Pokemon like that against me." she shrugged, recalling her Pokemon. "Some people just don't get it." Winona reached into her pocket and pulled out a Hyper Potion. "Here," she tossed it at Kasiya. "Good work."

Thankfully, Sasha was also blessed with long, fine working legs. That being said, she wasn't in the most appropriate attire for sprinting. Skirts and long boots, I hate you. the girl thought as she slowed her pace to go easy on her poor feet. And showy, uncomfortable bras. she groaned, making a vow to pack more sporty clothing in case she decided to temporarily lose her mind and agree to insane crap like this again.

When Sasha caught up to Kilik, he was mid conversation with a massive Magma grunt. "Oh mon dieu!" He was poking fun at Kilik's scrawny figure, but then again, this guy could make a Tyrannitar jealous. When he made mention of Kilik's female company, Sasha flicked her hair and struck a quick pose. "I s'hink z'he correct term pour moi iz 'woman'." When you got it, flaunt it, ya know?

At the point there was only one grunt, but Sasha kept her eyes open for any more that might show up. It was scary to think that she was inside the Magma base after just being kidnapped by Team Aqua. She was becoming much more intimate with Hoenn's criminal culture than she wanted to. Sasha watched Kilik's battle intensily, running her fingers over Roulette's Pokeball should the fight turn in favor of the Machoke.

Scarlet listened intently to Jett’s story. He thought his own family was irritating, but boy was he off. The red haired kid could only imagine what kind of feelings of inadequacy his travelling buddy was dealing with. It was like living with three rivals who were near impossible to beat, people who were out consistently getting better, so that progress barely meant anything at all. At least Scarlet’s goals had set points. Gym Leaders tested trainers at certain bench marks of their journey, and as such were restricted to certain strength levels.

Jett’s siblings, however, would be growing in power as he did. So in a way, Jett’s dream of reaching the top of his family’s totem pole would be harder than Scarlet’s goal of completing the League challenge.

“… Yeah, that’s pretty weird, but a goal’s a goal, and I gotta admit, it sounds like a hard one. But the hard dreams are usually the most fun. Let’s grab our Pokedexes. We can discuss a game plan for both of us to get stronger, so you’ll be able to take on your frankly terrifying sounding sister, and I’ll be able to curbstomp Lance. Deal?”

The two trainers and their pokemon, by that time, had made it into the city limits of Cherrygrove, the place Scarlet left just barely a couple of days ago. Needless to say, his home town hadn’t changed much. He absentmindedly considered popping in to see his sister, but he intended to get a Pokegear from Goldenrod later, so obtaining a Pokedex was definitely his priority.

Jett pursed his lips, taking in the appearances of the fresh city. It seemed quite nice; he would even take a risk and call it quaint. The raven haired male continued forward, though his pace seemed to slow because he half-expected Scarlet to pause to see his family. But, judging from Scarlet's unpreparedness, it seemed as though the male was new to the journey like himself.

"Okay," he agreed quietly, growing more and more lost in thought. He dreaded the first meeting with his siblings; there was little doubt that his parents had told them about his journey's beginning. And, cruel as it sounded, he knew that the first battle would be particularly ruthless because he started earlier. Who would put it past Darryl or Allan or Terra to correct such arrogance? Jett certainly wouldn't.

"So, what other kind of Pokemon do you plan on getting?" the boy found himself asking, if only to bring his mind from such darker thoughts to promises of hope. The world of Pokemon was boundless; he could catch so many, and they were all so different. Sometimes, it excited him to think of a diverse team with bunches of abilities and personalities, all meshing together. Jett smiled a little.

Treading carefully to find his next target, Kai progressed through Route 203 as nimbly as he could, Turtwig plodding along behind. This place was so close to his home, yet he had never had time to explore it fully- after all, he was always so busy tending to the store he never had time to really walk about leisurely. But now he was a trainer? He got that freedom to wander, and was fully intend on using that to its full potential where he could.

Walking away from the pond, Kai found himself at a tall tree- facing two wild Pokémon, both small and mostly orangey-red in colour, apparently conversing to each other. Kai knew this species only through books mainly- Kricketot. They were bug type, but still recommended for beginning trainers. So with a quiet point to the duo, Turtwig was sent out for a surprise tackle attack to get things started as efficiently as possible.

Busting from the brush like a bat out of hell, the little grass type charged straight into the left Kricketot who had a slightly smaller collar, Kai remembering that that meant it was male, since the species had gender differences like many others. The second Kricketot just stood there, slightly stunned at this sudden assault as its friend got back up onto two feet, almost glaring at Turtwig.
"Maybe this isn't the nicest way to start things.., but we've got to train hard as much as possible, right Turtwig?" Kai asked his companion, tone showing some doubts about the situation. "Wig."

"Alright then... tackle again whilst it's trying to regain balance!" Kai commanded, Turtwig charging directly into its target again, knocking it back further. The male Kricketot chirped a little, its companion not really acting against Turtwig at all, instead moving back a bit. Getting back onto its feet, the male Kricketot stood tall, bracing itself for another hit, apparently. Kai was a bit confused as to its lack of action- but all the more reason to keep up the pressure right? "Maybe this is one of those passive Pokémon that doesn't really fight back..? I guess that means this is easy experience- keep it up, Turtwig! Don't stop tackling!"

With a nod, the Tiny leaf Pokémon kept up it's offense, constantly charging into Kricketot, again and again- and time after time, the Kricketot didn't respond. Or so Kai thought. Slowly, the Kricketot seemed to glow red slightly- until eventually it became obvious that something was happening. However, by the time Kai had finally remembered that little warning notice on Kricketot's notes... it was too late.

"Turtwig, watch out!" he cried out, Turtwig turning to face him curiously before Kricketot unleashed its stored energy from its "Bide" ability, blasting Turtwig with vicious red energy, launching him far backwards, as well as launching Kricketot back into the tree, ultimately fainting it. Kai ran over to Turtwig's side to inspect the damage- and it was quite something. All the damage they had done to Kricketot had been returned to them... and if they hadn't healed up fully before this battle with a potion, Turtwig would definitely have fainted. Panting a little before regaining composure, the Tiny Leaf Pokémon gestured toward the other Kricketot- this battle wasn't over yet- they had beaten one, but there was still one to go.

"Alright, if you feel up to it... but lets be careful this time, alright?" Kai said calmly, trying to quickly find a way around a tricky ability like Bide- no way Turtwig could take another hit like that, after all...

The mysterious trainer’s smile faded away after a few seconds, replaced by his previous moderate indifference. “Alright. Let’s try and finish this, you two.”

The psychically linked eggs’ faces almost literally cracked with the widest grin Alex had ever seen before, while the Diglett’s eyebrows furrowed and it shouted out an excited “Dig!” The exeggcute had every intention of reducing that charmander to tears, while the Mole Pokemon wanted nothing more than to beat the spit out of the floral dinosaur creature that just slapped it in the face with a vine.

“Alright, Exeggcute. Brace yourself and use Ingrain. Diglett. Magnitude.”

The orders were carried out post haste. Somehow, vines poured out of each of the eggs, snaking deep into the soil, where they would be drawing out nutrients. At the same time, its Reflect would dampen a bit of the damage of the Diglett’s coming assault.

“… Blossom, keep Blaze up off the ground! I’m sorry, but we’re probably going to have to take the hit!” Tara, needless to say, didn’t enjoy the prospect of her precious Bulbasaur getting smashed by the volatile attack move the Diglett was about to use, but she knew her Blossom would be able to take the attack, and advantage of the opening being made.

“… Thanks, Tara. Blossom,” Danny muttered, nodding to both the grass type and her trainer, before directing his attention to his own pokemon. “Blaze! Prep Ember!”

Almost immediately, the Mole Pokemon commenced his attack. It swiftly shot into the ground, popping back up at the same spot. A second of peace passed before the Magnitude took hold, a minor quake suddenly shaking the earth. However, judging by the fact that the four humans were still standing, and the grass types barely winced through the attack, it wasn’t a very powerful strike.

Not that it was purely unexpected by the dark haired man. After all, Magnitude was a gamble. It could be anywhere from just strong enough to shake water in a glass or powerful enough to render a battlefield a maze of cracks and near cripple all opposition. It’d just ended up near the bottom of the scale.

Intriguingly enough, Alex noted, the gamble cost him a lot more than it gained, since his pokemon were both wide open. During the quake, Danny’s charmander called up flames from within its gut, tail flame glowing crimson, and much, much brighter.

“… I think its Blaze ability’s active,” the blond haired girl noted to no one in particular as the bright orange fireball darted out and bypassed the glittering shield around the exeggcute, exploding in a pillar of scorching flame.

Danny glanced over at Alex, raising an eyebrow before the words clicked in his head. “O-Oh! Right!” He’d forgotten that, when his charmander took a hard enough hit, the power of his fire attacks increased by a staggering 50%. And it looked as if it took its toll on the egg cluster. A scorch mark from the burst was plainly visible on all six of them.

In the mean time, something incredibly similar was going on with Blossum. Though nothing as blatantly obvious as the flame increase in the Charmander’s tail happened, the Magnetude 5 was just powerful enough to knock her into the proverbial red zone. With an angry frown on her face, the irritated Bulbasaur’s vine whip snapped from the flower bud on its back and shot into the air, slamming down hard on the Diglett’s face.

Apparently, that little display was more than enough for the subtlety challenged, trench coat wearing trainer. “Well, no need to get these guys battered any more. Return.” With a tap of both pokeballs, the charred Exeggcute and the viciously beaten Diglett were enveloped in a crimson light, recalled to the safety of their pokeballs to rest.

“So we…” Tara’s eyes widened from the revelation.

“We totally…” It’s said Danny’s everpresent smile grew three sizes that day.

“We won!”

As the pair embraced, leaping with incredible joy, and Blaze managed a little grin, patting the ecstatic Blossom on the head, even Alex couldn’t help but smile. It was a really good fight, after all, and it must’ve felt great to manage to pull off a victory. She just wished she and Roll could test themselves against the pretty resourceful starting trainers.

Just then, Black Trenchcoat spoke up, tossing a couple of berries to the cheerful pokemon, who ate them post haste. Their wounds seemed to heal immediately, their trainers noted, much to their own excitement. “You three should give it a shot. Assuming Blondie over there has a couple of pokemon herself.”

“U-Um… I-I do, I mean. I have a… Um… Two, and I guess I wanna battle, and…” With the awkward stammering, it was a surprised she managed to get out what she wanted to say. In the mean time, Roll excitedly began fumbling around her trainer’s belt, retrieving one of the red and white spheres containing her higher up.

“Uhhh. If that was a yeah, which I’m totally gonna assume it was,” Danny started, grinning toward the semi-nervous wreck of a trainer, “I’m in. Cool with you, Blaze?”

The Lizard Pokemon’s fierce blue eyes darted over to its trainer, to whom he delivered a curt nod.

“Tara?”

The black haired girl wasn’t as keen to the whole idea as the other two, apparently. She looked over at her Bulbasaur. After all, Tara reasoned, Blossom would be the one taking all the real hits. It wasn’t her right to answer without seeing what her pokemon wanted to do.

However, Blossom was apparently still pumped from her oh so recent victory. “Bulba!” she cried, beaming up at her trainer.

“… I guess we’re in then.”

With that, it looked like a new battle was underway.

“Ahhh. Pokemon. This might be super surprising, Jett, but me and Cindy don’t plan all that much out,” Scarlet answered, as if anyone who’d known him for more than ten minutes thought that someone who randomly challenged anything with a pokeball legitimately planned anything ahead.

However, apparently Cindy agreed with him and supplied a few quick nods in agreement.

“But… Considering what we have so far, I’m gonna need an electric or grass type to deal with water types… Um… An electric, ice, or rock type to deal with flying types… I don’t have many definite ideas of what exactly I want, but I think I’ll pick up whatever I see that’s particularly interesting. How about you? Is that why you came to Johto? The pokemon?”

Jett had slightly expected the lack of planning, considering his partner had collected a (presumably) starter Pokemon yet no Pokedex, but he half-expected the other male to have something planned out. Scarlet seemed so enthused about the Pokemon world; surely, he would have at least one or two favored Pokemon to catch? But he realized he hadn't thought about any particular Pokemon either; the feeling of finding an interesting new friend in the midst of the wild trumped the planning and hunting out for a specific breed. If anything, it made a trainer narrow-minded and unable to experience the true spontaneity of being a trainer.

Jett's eyes seemed to darken when he remembered the real reason he had come to Johto: he had experienced one too many losses. Which begged the question, if he lost too much in Johto, would he flee in the middle of the night and abandon perhaps his one real friend so far? He thought of Leon, his other potential traveling partner, and wondered how the older boy was faring in his match against Roxanne. He even wondered if the purple-haired youth would be expecting Jett waiting for him.

Sorry, he thought, stuffing his hands in his pockets. He belatedly realized how much of a pause he had taken, and licked his lips. What he doesn't know won't hurt him, right?

"Yeah," Jett said dryly, looking back to Scarlet, "that's why I came here."

Scarlet expected a rather quick answer to his question, honestly. He thought it was simple enough, anyway. But Jett was apparently taking his sweet time with it. Scarlet stared in near amazement as even light disappeared from his fellow trainer’s eyes. Frankly, Scarlet didn’t blame the poor guy. There were over 600 pokemon, and trying to pick which ones you were going to capture, let alone the three Jett needed to add to his team. Of course, Jett’s deliberation had nothing to do with that.

If the red haired boy had known what kind of stuff Jett was going through, he would’ve awkwardly tried to fix the situation. Hell, he might’ve even succeeded. Instead, Scarlet simply nodded. “Well, we share a lot of pokemon with Kanto, so at least while we’re here, you should get a pretty good survey of what both regions have.”

Still. That was a pretty weird reaction. “... You alright there, man?” Of course, Scarlet figured he was deep in thought about Pokemon, but he realized a while ago that not everyone was as obsessed about that kinda thing as he was.

Jett's hesitation had not gone unnoticed; it seemed Scarlet was more observant than the boy had given him credit for. He forced a smile, which seemed natural enough save for the tightness at the corners of his lips, and nodded lightly.

"I'm just sort of descending from the rush of that gym battle, y'know?" he replied, hoping his battle-hungry companion would easily understand and take his word for it. Jett tried to be an honest person, but everyone had secrets, right?

His pace began to quicken as an exit from the city came in sight; if he remembered the map correctly, that would mean there was only one short route with plentiful short-cuts separating the two from New Bark Town. Even though he knew it would take quite a bit to get to where the next gym leader was, Jett was already eager to prove himself again and gain something to prove that he wasn't a complete failure.

And there was always the prospect of finding a new Pokemon, too...
