"Wow, that must suck, 150 years!? Wait.....that means you are old! Aaaaanyway..." She shook her head "The longer war drags on, the more people suffer, even the Emperor himself suffers from it. I will make this war stop, especially since the Black Star Nation seems to be involved. Incidentally, what are we doing right now?"

"The Inquisitors have been alive far longer. On to topic. We ready for battle. But you have much to learn in a short time. I have been instructed to be your... mentor for lack of a better word. And don't fool yourself. 'You strive for victory. That is obvious. What may be less obvious is the nature of victory. There are circumstances in which you can destroy the enemy entirely, without loss to your own forces, and yet the victory will be his. In all situations, you must first decide on the nature of victory, and then take steps to secure it. Avoid the instinct to fight first and think later.' This battle may prove to be decisive, but that is for history to know, and for us to create that history. You will learn many things of total war while you are here. Not all will be as thoughtful as my quote. Many will be as blunt as a war hammer. You will do well to remember this. You will not like nor agree with everything, but you will accept it and embrace it. You will follow my orders without question and without hesitance. Now come. I must take you to our codex, where you will be instilled with the teachings of war."

"Sock it to me then" She nodded "Whatever, every battle I have gone through has been decisive, make no question I have much to learn in my lifetime, but I have seen battles that you have not, and it is from those I will take my learning experience to assist me with this one, as well as what I can learn from your people. I will make it no matter what the cost, and complete my ascension, for it is nessecary for the battles ahead. My true struggle is but a short week away, but for this world, it is meaningless. Henceforth, I will not worry, for I will return stronger, and together with my ascension as Pillar of Reason I will strike down that b***h and send her to the Nothingness she wishes to harness" She grinned, following the woman. "I want it as extreme as you can give it, pain, suffering, physical and mental strain to a traumatic degree if neccessary, it will serve me better, and time is of the essence.

"Child, you've seen battle. There is a distinct and far more brutal difference between war and a skirmish here and there. You will soon see the gruesome difference. You will realize how hard it is to accept that you could die at any random moment and being completely unable to stop it. You could feel the pain of maiming and loss such as I have. We have face creatures that could instill such terror into those it simply sets it's gaze on, that even the most hardened warriors have their will to fight completely sapped and they go into shock just wait for death. But first, have you faced the violent death of a loved one or close friend before?" She stopped at a service elevator and pressed a button.

Xiaeriene shook her head. "I would rather leave the past behind me, to dwell on it is to allow it to become a burden, and the battles that lie ahead are far worse that you assume. I have faced death many times, I have been ripped apart twice in the past and left for dead, and even still here, with the Black Star Nation against me, I could die at any given moment, and I may return to my home to find my family and friends all killed, and their souls consumed. This world, this war, it may be all that you know, but for me, it is but one of something much greater. I fight another war that span multiple dimensions with worlds of their own, but here, now, I will do what I must, to uphold the essence of Control." She looked Shlag in the eyes with a piercing gaze "You think you know me, but you do not, and I do not appreciate it in the least. You cannot comprehend what my life has been like, just as I cannot comprehend what yours has been like. I will not apt to say mine has been any better or worse than yours, nor will I pretend to understand what you may or may not have been through. I can only speak for myself." She stepped into the elevator. "To answer your question, yes, and not just such have I faced, but allow me this question: Have you endured having a loved one or close friend having their soul consumed by a powerful demon, or worse, held hostage and used to soil the purity of that soul?"

"You've got no idea." Shlag stepped on to the elevator. "There's a reason we have an Inquisition, child. Heresy within our ranks doesn't happen without the unbreakable corruption and taint of daemons. 115 years ago, we had a fifth chapter of Marines. They were instructed to annex a neighbor after a very short warp storm. They found the entire area where the country had been corrupted to the fullest degree possible. Their mission had then changed to purge the warp daemon who had tainted that area. And in doing so, they had gotten corrupted themselves. The first and only major heresy had begun. It took three of our four remaining chapters to to quell that heresy. Every one of them had to be purged and the Daemon had to be killed. My fiance was one of the those who had to be purged for the taint he had suffered was only removable in death. We met on the battlefield in the final days of the heresy. Not only did I witness his death, I dealt it. Once taken by the taint of a Daemon that powerful, there is no possibility of returning. Even the ground and buildings still bear the taint of it. Only know has the lingering power began to dwindle. Your cousin... Suffered a similar fate. No? I lost my best friend the next day when we had been ambushed by creatures from the wastes. Thousands of monstrosities swarmed us. Wave after wave were shattered until we had run out of ammunition and had to rely on melee weapons. That's when the large ones came out. Their presence alone broke the will of many of our finest soldiers. Those who had been broken laid down to die. 40 percent of our chapter died that day. That's two full armies. After being forced to retreat, we returned to retrieve their remains. All we could find were the bloody, twisted remnants of their power armor. They had been consumed on the spot. The final days of that heresy were bleak and we suffered many casualties. Many of which we are still only recovering from. That's only two."

Xiaeriene listened silently. Afterward, she spoke "You are, then, a great and strong woman. I know not many who could endure such atrocities committed against them, let alone speak of them so freely as you have. I respect your resolve, not to allow your past pains to get to you when on the battlefield. Yes, it was my cousin, Xiaedessa, who endured a similar situation, though she was somehow saved by her love. It was a demon, a parasitic, taking the form of a blade, that had latched onto her soul, to use her body. Her soul would have been consumed, had it not been for the bonds of love she held true with Haruko. But afterward, she had been left broken, and then, our school, which serves as a median to protect the realms, was attacked on multiple fronts by the Black Star Nation. My father was murdered in that battled, and my brother was abducted by them. And my cousin, she died protecting the boy she loved, at least temporarily. I don't know, but when I roamed the expanse betwixt and between, not living or dead, I ran into her. There, we both came upon realizations, and we strengthened ourselves. She has now gone to fulfill her duty as pillar goddess of Reason, just as I now am beginning to fulfill mine as pillar goddess of control. And in order to be successful, I have been blessed with the chance encounter here with you and Cicero. " The elevator stopped "Have you, by chance, fought against a person who could rip their head off, or disembowel themselves, then continue fighting at full? A Person who can be ripped apart, yet still get back up for more?"

Shalg left the elevator. "Yes. Such was a small portion of the heresy we fought against and a reason we lost so many."

"I see, then it seems that I have much in common here in this realm. My past experiences, then, will serve me well." She continued on, following Shlag "So our mission will rerquire us to dress as skanky maids, sounds a little annoying...how about your thoughts on it?"

"You're experiences may serve you well. But there will be a loss of innocence, no matter how small it may be. This battle will haunt you, that much even I, a rank C Psyker can foresee." Shlag's answer to the question came quickly and without much thought. "Any and all disguises feel strange to me. 'A Space Marine’s armor is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear.'" She cited. "But this is an order from His Excellency the Emperor Himself. So my opinions, my thoughts, mean nothing."

"Loss of innocence will feign me not, as my soul has already lost its innocence to things that were inevitable. " She thought of something at Shlag's last comment "You are somewhat mistaken, I darersay. On the surface, no, perhaps somewhat obviously, Cicero demands your unquestioned following of orders. I suppose, then, to some extent, you are right, but, during my time around him I had the chance to peer into his soul, and, he cares more than you could imagine. He has a big heart, and it is because he cares, because he wants what is best for this realm, that he is so strict. His burden is heavy, and his resolve is admirable. And it is the undying loyalty of people like you that brings him feelings of hope and goodness." She leaned forward a bit and smiled "And after this war is over, and I have purged the Blood Sea, I have something I wish to show you" She turned as the reached their destination "Now, I guess we are here. As I said before, I want my training intense enough to cause death to even the best of the best. I am ready, so let's begin"

"Steel yourself." Shlag said as she entered a code on the pad. The doors slid open and they went inside. "Now first things first, the history of the chapter." She pointed to a chair that had hundreds of wires running around it. "Sit. This will only take a few moments. This is a memory drive device. It instills the knowledge of the thousands of books and videos we have in our archive. It's used to bring recruits up to date. Since it lasts only a few seconds, it will flood your mind and it will require time to sort it all out. But the first thing and most important thing you will learn here this moment is 'There is no such thing as innocents. Only degrees of guilt.' If you do not remember that, what you see later, and what you see in a few moments will probably sicken you. We have no war correspondents. All of our video is taken by helmet cameras. So every bit of detail, every combatant and noncombatant killed in those videos really died in the ways you are about to see. And you must also remember when we engage in an Exterminatus, our only goal is death. If this next battle goes badly, it may turn into an Exterminatus. You must ask yourself, can you kill a child? A woman who seemingly has nothing to do with this battle? Can you turn the flamer on a house full of people trying to weather to storm of battle? Can you murder what you feel are 'innocents'? This is what I mean when you will lose innocence in this upcoming battle. If one thing goes array, and it comes down to it, can you live with yourself after you've crushed the skull of a pregnant woman, who's begging for mercy, under your boot?" She lowered what looked to be a helmet down over Xiaeriene's head. After a few seconds the last 39,000 years of history embedded itself into her mind. The helmet rose from her head. "There is more. You will now learn to do battle like a Space Marine."

Xiaeriene was hit immediately with the wave of information mixed with torment of ages as the helmet was placd on her head. She swallowed hard as it arose a few seconds later, as she stored everything where it belonged in her mind as well as her soul. She was no longer resentful, after this moment, for everything she had been through, everything she had experienced, in her life up to this point, and for the first time, she was grateful to her late father for putting her through similar experiences back when he had stilll been alive. Otherwise, she would have not been able to handle what she had just been put through. It was now, this very moment, that she knew for a fact that she had become stronger, and that her ascension was nearly complete. She looked to Shlag and nodded with a smile "Thank you, that was intense, but I am fine. I am ready for the next stretch"

"Now follow me. We have a ways to go to get to the combat simulator. The Emperor tells me that you rely too much on your energy techniques. They wont serve you well in the battle ahead. Most weapons at this point have some kind of energy cancellation technology employed in them. But there are those shells that can take out star ship engines with a single slug. They will pierce through your defensive barrier like a 5mm armor piercing round through a skull. So I must break you of that habit. Also, most armors we employ this technology as well." To get to the combat simulator they had to pass through the Imperial Guard training grounds. Shlag knew Shadow and his group would most likely be there now beginning their training. The Imperial Guard training spent the majority of the time on the marksmanship range learning about their laser rifles.

Xiaeriene nodded as she followed "Yes, for the most part, I do rely on them a lot. However, I am experienced well in fighting without. As for my barriers, it depends, whether or not I have a catalyst, as well as what it is. I doubt I can handle such as your cannons, hence why I am here. I need to know what I have to face, though I am worried, I fear some of what we will have to face may be what my techniques are good against. Then again, I can take those on while you deal with those who utilize what you face. That being said, if the Black Star Nation deploys such things that you cannot handle, and don't for once think that they cannot pull off such things, then let me handle them. With the combined efforts of your power and mine, I am sure that Cicero can end this war and bring about a new era of peace. Well, that is, if those monsters do not prevent me from purifying the Blood Sea. But enough of all this talk, let's get this party started"
