Shaking the mane once more from his eyes, he huffed in reply his eyes raising to glance once more at Asikari, he too was thinking it strange they were talking like this...it was almost as if they were friends. He held in a chuckle of amusement however not wanting to ruin it, if the other lion realised this he might decide to take off again and there was no way Amari was chasing after him.

He stood briefly, stretching each leg in turn and the let himself flop down onto his side, thoughts returning briefly to his sweet Maawio.

"Yeah well, that's all in the past now. Best to look ahead and forget about all that stuff." He twitched one ear as a fly decided to use it as a perch and groaned, letting his head rest on the ground. "Bad things make you stronger, or that's what I was told." He mused on this for a moment and with a laugh raised his head once more to glance at the other lion. "Or in my case, makes you stupid." Which was a true enough statement, the things that had happened to him in the past had taught him behaviour that had only gotten him into trouble and heart ache. Not anymore however, he was going to try and break free from the chains of the past and live with morals of his own.

He stared a moment at Amari, shrugging lightly. He couldn't let go of the past. Not after holding onto it for so long. Not after making himself the way he was to make sure he was never unwanted in that manner again.

He rose a brow and snorted, stupid? Yes. But not so messed up. "..." After a long pause of silence Asikari finally decided to ask what happened. "What made you stupid, then?"

Finally deciding to go in search of the water she was smelling, yet not seeing, Kala slowly rose to her paws and stretched herself out a bit. Her mind still wandered quite a bit as she started to pad towards the subtle smell of water. She was tired, for it was quite evident as her paws seemed to drag lightly against the ground and her head hung lower to the ground than usual.

Her eyes seemed a bit dulled as she continued forward with many thoughts in her head. Yet, as a familiar scent caught onto the air, Kala's eyes seemed to come back to life. Blinking curiously, she looked about and found nothing nearby once more. Yet that scent... It has to be... she thought to herself as she allow herself to become slightly distracted and follow this newly familiar scent.

The rusty-coloured lion laughed at Asikari's question and shook his head slightly, the smile never leaving his maw. It was strange to be talking about something so personal with a lion he had hated only a day or so ago. Yet at the same time it was good...relieving almost - to get this all off his chest. He had told Maawio only a small portion of what had happened to him, probably because he felt a bit ashamed about what he had done.

With a small sigh he raised his head and glanced off at the horizon once more. "I was the youngest of three cubs - all males." he added slowly, "We were constantly play fighting, bickering and stuff like that, I expect most siblings would have done the same. My mother used to just watch us, I don't know...it was almost like she didn't want cubs in the first place, like she had no energy to deal with us."

His ears drooped as he spoke, but when he paused he straightened his posture and glanced at Asikari somewhat sharply before continuing. "She stuck around however, but when the fighting got out of hand she would just leave us to it, and when she brought meat for us there would be arguing. Practically anything we did was fought for. Our meals, our water, who walked first in line beside mother."A small growl erupted from his throat, and he stood up pacing a few steps away from the tree before turning back to Asi once more.

"So...I grew up thinking that the only way to win things was to use claws and teeth, it was the only thing I knew and that is what made me stupid. That way of thinking almost lost me Maawio, also the reason why I...attacked you." He trailed off there, this was all the other lion needed to know.

He nodded slowly; it mad sense to why he acted all tough s**t. His tail slowly curled around him and he lay there a moment, watching Amari.

He shifted, not knowing what else to say. He was feeling a little less nervous, but still awkward. Odd, how much easier it was to tell Amari of his past than anyone else. And a little surprising that Amari would share his own past.

Amari sighed, letting the silence continue for a little longer, he just wasn't sure what else to say and he assumed that Asi was feeling the same. Did they really have anything in common? Did they have reasons to become friends and stay together any longer?

He wasn't sure of either of those questions, but having this lion's company had to be better than having none at all. It wasn't much fun to travel by yourself.

"So is this the place you call home?" He asked, glancing around him at the somewhat barren surroundings and wrinkling his nose in disapproval. The only good thing about the area was that it was actually quite warm and Amari's love of the sun surpassed most things.

He let his gaze wander a little. "Home? I have no home. I just like staying in these parts.." He murmered. "I like the heat. Can't find anywhere hotter.." He gave a small chuckle. Looks like asikari was actually turning out to be alright.

"Well." The lion shook the dust from his mane, "looks like that's atleast one thing we have in common, eh Asi?" He gave the other a toothy grin and let his gaze sweep up to the sky. Yes the sun and the heat were extremely nice indeed, there was nothing like sunbathing beneath the powerful rays.

Perhaps that is why he fell so fast for Maawio, her fur was as golden and brilliant as the sun he adored. Yes that had to be it.

"That was the problem with the jungle, it was nice and hot...but also very wet." He shivered and drew his gaze once more to the horizon.

It was such a delicious feeling, being able to stretch her legs underneath a clear sky; closing her eyes, mouth set in a small smile, Taraju stood quietly admist the long grass. The past few days had been too dry, too hot in the grasslands for her to stay out for too long, but today dawned just perfect-- a little breezy, a little cool. Just how she liked it.

Taking a few tentative steps, the small cheetah tested out her legs. They were a tiny bit wobbly from days without serious use, but...

Shaking back her head, she padded forwards at a quick pace-- then, with one great bound, took off across the grassy plains at a startling speed.

Wind rushed past her fur as she dashed forward, cooling and filling her with an exhiliration she had not felt for a long while. She could feel the long, dry grasses tickling her ears as she sped on by, the dust clouds billowing from her feet and disintegrating into air--

Yes, this was where she truly belonged: in the wide and grand expanse of nothing. Taraju's paws seemingly flew on air, small body only a blur amongst the rippling ocean of grass. Birds spiraled up and out around her, filling the air with their sharp squawks; she turned her dark head upwards, chest swelling with something she could not identify.

As a cheetah, I must run... it is the only thing I can do at this point. Birds may just fly away from their troubles, but I--

Her paws, surrounded by a haze of dust and dirt, slowly stopped their pounding tempo; panting slightly, Taraju slowed her desperate run. Heart pattering, the cub turned her heads upwards once again-- her excitement now replaced by wistful silence.

The birds were now only tiny, spiraling specks in the sky.

--I must be free as well. Somehow.

Although the Southlands were her home since birth, Taraju had not ever wandered this far into the open before. She had always stayed within the boundaries of her small community...

With a small frown, the cheetah ducked her head, taking a few quiet steps forward. It was better not to think about -that- now... not at all.

Taraju knew that being a small cub, she was game for any large predators or vultures that might happen by-- swallowing a large lump in her throat, she forced herself fowards, over the wide expanse of grass. Whereever she looked, there was nothing but the dry, rippling plains, save for an occasional tree or rock.

Was this all there was to the Southlands...? The small cheetah glanced around, her pale eyes curious. When she was younger, the plains had seemed to stretch to eternity... now, having matured from her recent... experiences, Taraju wondered what lay beyond the boundaries.

However, a soft noise distracted her from her musings; the small cheetah tensed, ducking quickly behind a pile of rocks. Not daring to breathe in case there was danger, Taraju listened as hard as she could--

Two faint voices reached her ears. Her curiousity sparked, the cheetah slowly, cautiously, lifted her eyes above the rock pile--

Her pale eyes widened in surprise, and she lifted her head a fraction more for clear view. There, in a small dusty clearing ahead of her, sat two... creatures, chatting with each other in low voices.

What were they? They looked like her, but their absence of spots ruled out cheetahs or leopards. Lions, perhaps? Taraju had only heard of their kind from vague stories in her old community. From what the elders had told them, lions were a snooty, prideful kind... not very good to get along with.

Her ears twitched; she inched a bit closer to the rock pile, peeking above it in intense curiousity. These must be only young lions... from what she could see and hear, they seemed pleasant enough. Could lions really be as bad as she had been told?

As quietly as she could, Taraju placed her paws against the rocks, ears straining to hear. Maybe, if she was stealthy enough, she could find out what the two were talking about.

He nodded slowly. "Sos it mus' be sticky, eh?" He made a face of disgust. "I was thurr once.. Bakhti tried ter kick me out though. Sour lil' thin she is." He made and even more discusted face at that. He shifted a little, rolling to his back, falling quiet once again.

Amari neither heard nor saw the little female cheetah listening in on their conversation, but if he had he probably wouldn't have been that bothered. Right now he was quite sure that the place was empty for miles around, apart from himself and Asikari of course.

"Yeah very." He replied, answering Asi's question about the jungle, ears twitching forwards. "Bakhti is okay once you get to know her, she's had a lot on her mind lately." He sighed, wondering where his sister was now. Would she be mad at him for leaving her all alone? She had suffered great heartache over the last few days especially when she learned that Suku had a mate already.

He twitched his tail and shifted his weight once more. "How about we continue walking? Never know what else we might come across." He wanted to see if there was anything more to this land other than dust and a few gnarled trees.

As the breeze carried bits and pieces of their conversation toward her, Taraju could catch a few scattered words... but none of them made sense. They had spoke of something about the jungle, whereever that was... then something called "Bakhti," whatever that was. She felt so naive, so new to the world; well, that was what she deserved.

Taraju frowned slightly, flattening her lean body against the ground-- she had just caught some scuffles of movement. Maybe these lions were leaving now; whatever the case, she had to remain unseen. They could be aggressive...

Maybe they would exit the Southlands, into a different area? Her ears perked slightly at the prospect. They would make excellent guides... and unknowingly, perhaps.
