okay. we just went last night to see "Happily N'ever After" at the theatre. It was so cute! funny! had little references to tons on movies in it. My favorite part was teh 7 dwarves (I won't ruin it)
If you haven't seen it or don't know what it is, basically it's a telling of fairytales in fairytaleland where the evil ones (you know, stepmother, wolf, giant, trolls, etc) thru a horrible mistake end up being in charge of how the fairytales happen.
And I have to say, Patrick Warburton as the prince charming was one of the most hilarious things I have seen in awhile (you know, besides Tenacious D)

Just saw a movie called "Face" starring Bai Ling (or Ling Bai as she's listed in the credits) It's basically the story about a woman who leaves her child to be raised by her mother and then shows up 20 years later to try and rekindle a relationship with her daughter.
It deals with family, interracial romance, shows how close knit the chinese community can be (or any ethnicity really) there's one scene where the granddaughter does something in chinatown in Queens and before she even gets home her grandmother has already heard all about it.
I didn't like the ending. While I thought it left alot up to your own imagination, perhaps it left too much and the things I wanted to see resolved weren't, but perhaps that's the beauty of the story.
It is definitely a must see. I watched it mostly cuz I'm a sucker for Asian (and Asian themed) cinema and it had me glued to the TV crying and laughing with the characters.

Ok a couple weeks ago I watched The Wickerman with Nicholas Cage. Mind you, this type of move is my absolute favorite, so I was rather excited to finally get to see it. Never again!! I will never ever watch it again. It freaked me out to the point where I couldnt sleep properly for almost a week. Every time I closed my eyes I kept seeing this one part replaying over and over again. Maybe it was because I really like Nicholas Cage and I never thought he would star in a film where something like this happend to him or what. Overall it was a good one but it really disturbed me eek

Or is it just disturbing in some ways?

morquarwen Yes its a horror movie, and normally I love horror movies. Here is a link to the summary of it: The Wicker ManIt freaks me out so bad I cant even really talk about it, how weird is that? This movie is actually a poor remake of a 1973 movie entitled " The Wicker Man. I've seen the original about a year ago and I saw the remake a couple days ago. The original was much more intelligent and well thought out. It was based in druidic culture and not some ramdom island of women bee-keepers type scenario. I know the scene you are talking about...that scene wasn't actually in the original theatrical release. They had to remove it in order to keep a PG-13 rating (i listened to part of the director's commentary) They had originally put that scene in there (again if it's the one I'm thinking of) to explain to you later events of why he stays where he is and doesn't try and leave. In this day and age you have to cover your bases or someone somewhere is going to question "why didn't he just call someone?" or "why didn't he just ....?" It was a pretty disturbing turn of events, but IMHO no more disturbing than scenes I've seen in movies such as Misery (and I"m sure others I can't quite think of right now) Remember, this is based on a foreign film so of course the ending isn't going to be a happy hollywood everything gets resolved and the familiar prevails over the unfamiliar (I won't say good vs. evil because imho the islanders aren't evil) I personally really like Nicholas Cage as well, but I found his performance lacking in this movie. I suggest to you (and to everyone) to rent the original Wicker Man. It's a much better film and I think You wouldn't find the remake as horrifying. again IMHO

Don't go watching Bridge to Terabitihia - it made me cry like hell in the end. And they weren't able to cope with that bad feeling with the remaining parts anymore. The rest of the movie wasn't that special neither, and if you expect some fantasy like in Narnia with which it is promoted, you'll be quite disappointed.

What's odd is I remember reading the book when I was little, but the *only* thing I remember is the ending, and I don't even remember what all happened/went on on the other side of the bridge when they went! rofl So I was a little surprised to see all the fantasy stuff in the trailer and its resemblance to Narnia, etc. I'm glad to get an opinion on it though!

There's almost nothing new these days, it's all remakes. Well, almost.
Mwahahahaha! I know something absolutely evil that's in production right now what while original and will most likely be pretty bad, it's still going to be better than most of the crap that's come to theaters lately(last decade and a half). Burger King: the Movie. I'm not kidding on this one.
On the other hand, I'm going to see 300 tonight, I'm really looking forward to it. Frank Miller's work has always been amazing.
