"I thought we'd be better at this." Jeong flashed Hwan a frustrated smile. Training had fooled him with the horses earlier, he'd become cocky that he could pick up everything else with ease. Sure the practice class had shown him that this was more difficult but he'd assumed at the real class they'd have all sorts of tips and tricks to give them from the extra years of experience as teachers. Should've known better, huh?
"Be careful." He gave his brother a stern look, not wanting a repeat of his triple knock out. Hwan had managed the course better this time but anything was possible with his brother around, including the ridiculously stupid things.
That's what made him fun.
"How you holding up, Risa?" Blonde hair loops waited in line behind him, her eyes surveying the trees. He wasn't sure if it was in wonder (she seemed to have a thing for them) or in desperation (could she tell which were easier to dodge?).

Finding balance on the maneuvering gear was easy enough, but this task was a whole new monster. Avoid hitting trees and to pass had to dodge eight out of the ten. This was going to hurt. Why wasn’t there a medic on the scene? Hazel was sure there would be a few broken noses and lovely bruises on her fellow cadets. She had watched those before her and they made it seem not as bad as she hoped. Few made contact with the trees and she winced when she heard the thud, Hazel had to push down the urge to race after them and help them with their injuries.
Her heart was beating rapidly in her chest, and she felt a wave of nausea. On shaking legs she put on the gear and prepared herself to begin the course. And she was off! She flew through the air only to hit a tree dead on. Pain, sharp pain made her gasp. Her body hurt all over from the impact and her skin held bark indentations where her flesh struck the hard surface. She hobbled back to the start and began again. This time when she flew she missed the trees. One, two, three… four… five. She was starting to get cocky, and did not pay attention to the large oak looming in front of her, at the last second she served to the side and smashed the gear against the tree.
Upset she went back to the start and had to get new gear, once situated she ignored her pain and embarrassment. She took off again, only to hit two more trees, smacking against them with her already bruised body.
Determined to get the remaining three dodges, Hazel checked her gear and prepared to begin again.

She was flying, missing trees as they flew passed. She dodged two, making her total up to seven; she was so close to being done with the pain. She knew that if she continued to practice, she would hit the trees less and less. The prospect of that made her smile, which was when she hit another freaking tree. The medic in her was incredibly surprised that she had yet to break any bones with all the hard impacts she has had with the sturdy trees. Hazel did not want to push her luck, but knew she needed to continue. Again she took to the trees, she avoided one but hit the next one. Frustrated she went again to the trees only to hit the first one in her path. Bleeding from her many cuts, Hazel wanted to cry out in frustration, but instead she took a deep breath, calming herself. Again she used the maneuvering gear and missed the trees that threatened to break her bones. With a smile she finished the course. Ten trees avoided in total, and ten six trees hit, not entirely great odds, but she will take it. At least she was learning.
When her legs touched the earth she wanted to collapse, but instead she walked on weak legs to the end of the line. Even though she was hurt and bruised, she felt the strange urge to do it all again.

"I know what you mean. But hey, we're getting the hang of it-" His body hurt a bit from smacking into trees but nothing would compare to that first humiliation at least. Cuts and scrapes were minor compared to a concussion. Jeong shot him the look that warned him to take this seriously and he made a show of rolling his eyes back in response. Of course he was going to be careful, this gear was going to save his life over the next few years! He needed to practice and master it.
"Oh, did you see that?!" It'd been a rocky start but by the end of the run, he'd managed to dodge three in a row by turning his body and spinning out of the way. It had left him feeling dizzy and somewhat squeamish but the look in his eyes was excited if anything. Larisa waited behind Jeong and he waved to her.
"Hey, whoever does worst get snacks tonight, okay?" The weather was thankfully still somewhat nice in the evening though it was growing colder everyday. There were a few more cozy summer nights ahead of them and he planned to make use of all of them by eating outside and enjoying the cool breezes. Curfew was too early for them to enjoy much stargazing but maybe they could spend the weekend in Trost some time if they coordinated their time off and spend it camping.

"I'm doing alright." Larisa's eyes dropped from the treetops to Jeong and she gave a small, sympathetic smile. She didn't think any of them really seemed to be doing as well as they'd all probably hoped, but they were just as determined to keep trying as she was. It was kind of nice to not be alone in this. She'd been thinking just now about how she could break off from the group and really climb once she had a better hang on things, and now she found herself wondering if maybe the twins would want to give it a try too.
But that was something to think about after she got better, she reminded herself as she lifted a hand to cheerfully return Hwan's wave. She still had two trees left to dodge, and she was sure she could manage it without too many more scrapes! "Um, how well have you two been doing anyway? I'm nearly there!" That had to mean she wouldn't be the worst, right?

"It's on." Jeong grinned as Hwan came back looking pleased with himself. The snack punishment issued, Jeong stretched his neck and looked confident now that it was a game between him and his brother once more. He liked turning things into little competitions, they made him focus more. Plus who didn't like the rush of adrenaline when the chance to win was within reach?
"We're almost done. Or should I say about to be?" The dark haired boy winked to the blonde beside him. Her voice sounded nervous (was another one of her famous ramblings about to happen?) but it was cute how she put on a brave face regardless. He still didn't know what to expect from her half the time, as she'd surprised him with that fist to the face earlier and it was exciting to have a new friend to play around with. Especially when that new friend was a cute girl!
"Watch this!" His turn came up once more and he shot forth into the course. His start was a bit shaky and he grazed a tree in his impatience to get moving. The last two runs had given him time to get a feel for the momentum and adapt to the wrenching feeling in his core from moving in such an unnatural way. Jeong swung wide and then closed in on the next four trees, zigzagging with a careful precision. Feeling proud, he aimed to get even closer on the fifth tree but miscalculated and slid right against it as he rocketed by. Hissing in pain, he was too distracted to pay good attention to the following tree and scraped up his arm when he tried to protect himself from the blunt impact. Heart beating fast, Jeong recovered in time for the last tree and dismounted from the course with decent skill by not landing on his a**.
"Good luck guys." He mumbled, turning his dark brown eyes to watch the course as he trekked back to where the trainees were gathered. As much as he wanted to win, Jeong did want his friends to do well enough to avoid injury.

Erm. Hmm. Jeong was doing a lot better than Hwan had expected. It kind of frustrated him that his brother was just slightly better at everything than him. The horse riding had barely fazed Jeong and he was even good at studying! No, this was going to be his thing. The sheer joy of flying. Stepping up next in line to try the course again, he flashed Larisa a confident smile as she chirped to ask how he was doing.
"I'm doing great. Watch this." In order to properly impress all the other trainees on the field, he was going to have to do something spectacular. Something to get his name out there as top dog of the Scouting Legion! A quick shot of his grappling hooks and he was flying among the trees again. The first one came faster than he'd expected and he was unable to execute his plan and he grazed against the side of the tree.
The next came into sight and his pulse quickened. The light of glory filtered through its leaves and he sprang into action. His fingers squeezed the triggers to the gas hard and he soared around the tree in a spiral motion, climbing vertical up to the sky with a triumphant whoop of joy. The air rushed past him and the sensation of speed thrilled him and he couldn't restrain a cocky yell though no one could quite make out what he'd said. He was above the trees now, free as a bird and marveling at the view. The world looked so different up here, everything was small but slowly-
Coming closer?
"Fuuuucccckk-" In his carelessness, he'd loosened his fingers from the gas and now began his long fall from grace. Panicked, he tried to hook onto something, anything, while also triggering spurts of gas but this combination only set him swinging wildly throw the trees like a prehistoric jungle man except much more out of control and frightened. The trees loomed dangerously over him now and his body froze up in memory of that first attempt with Shun and the others. He was going to die, wasn't he? Trees had taken his parents and now lusted for him as well-
"JEONG-" He hollered as if his twin could somehow help him while his face met with bark and scraped at the skin on his cheeks. It felt like his brain was rattling around from the impact and he was too dazed to release the grappling hooks and simply slide to the ground. And so he continued to swing like a doomsday pendulum through the trees, bouncing from one to the next as the seconds ticked down on his final run of the day. Upon reaching the end, he simply hung there as blood dripped from his injuries, most noticeably his nose and cheek.
At least it looked like he'd gotten out of snack duty.
((God, Hwan, how the hell are you going to get into the Scouts at this rate?))

Larisa laughed as both of the twins assured her they were doing well, both ending with a confident demands to 'Watch this!' Obligingly she did, pausing a moment before starting her own course to see how they did on theirs. Jeong managed to dodge around half of the trees, which was a pretty good run compared to most of their others, and Hwan was- Oh, that wasn't a good start, what was he doing? Eyes wide, the blonde tracked his ascent through the treetops, her breath catching in her throat.
Amazingly, the first thought in her mind as he hung in the air for those lengthy seconds wasn't that she was afraid for him. How high up had he reached? What did the world look like from up there? Could she do that too? And then he began to fall and she gasped again, remembering. A flash of grappling hooks and she was soaring again, twisting neatly around the first tree. The next few scraped and banged her around, but she corrected as best she could and managed to do a better job on the rest.
Five dodges in all, the same as Jeong! She'd feel proud about that later, though, for now she dropped to the ground and ran to where Hwan was hanging. "Are you alright!?" She really hoped this wasn't becoming some sort of traumatizing routine.

[Prompt Response - Lillian Carter]
Lillian tried her best to keep herself level as best as she could. I mean, as level as one could be as one attempted to rush past a large group of trees. It was difficult, especially this being her first time... but she managed to even herself out, clipping half the tree's on her first run through. Dodging half was good.. right? She frowned, repositioning herself to run again. She was bruised, and splinters stuck out of her skin and uniform but she had more tree's to dodge.

She ran through again, obtaining even more splinters and bruises than she could even begin to count. She faired no better or worse than her first attempt, successfully dodging half of the trees she came across. Frowning, she stopped to take a breath.. turning her eyes to the others around her. She wasn't the only one having trouble.. that was somewhat reassuring. She knew she wasn't perfect, but that didn't stop her from feeling let down. She would have to practice this, for obvious reasons. She was no good to anyone if a tree could defeat her in the end. Chris had been feeling optimistic about taking to the air, and applying himself using the 3dmg gear. With ten massive trees to go around, he found himself antsy and nervous for his initial take off. Chris was worried most of all his glasses would fall off. "s**t..here goes nothing." he raised his head up, and soon was flying through the air. The sound of the gear was thrilling, and gave him confidence. Even with double and triple checking his strap for his glasses, it was a wonder the first four maneuvers sucked. Determined not to completely fail the run, he adjusted himself in time to avoid three trees..and promptly proceed to slam into the rest.
His first run did not go smoothly at all, but he at at least managed to avoid a few things..so the run hadn't been a complete failure?

How did one even work a complex system such as the three dimensional maneuver gear? Hissing in pain as he swung to low into a branch, and smacked his leg on another as he came around for his next attempt Chris sighed internally. He could see other trainees on the field, whipping around and occasionally clipping things as he'd done..so at least he didn't feel completely at odds end.
Again he'd only managed three again..that fact alone made him grit his teeth. He'd just go for another round, and push himself even harder.

Chris had endured several bumps and bruises along the way, including cracking his face into a low branch, and clipping his shoulder into another tree. He swore it had jumped out at him (even if his footing had slipped causing the imbalance) despite this, and his panted exhaustion he collapsed onto the ground wearing what might have been one of his larger smiles yet. He'd managed to dodge and weave his way to victory, even if he'd be sore in the morning. Practically speaking it felt good to have completed the trial even if he'd been highly reluctant. Much to his relief he'd also managed to get past five trees, instead of three without fairing for the worst. It was a step in the right direction. It provided likely he'd just have to step it up, and spend more time mastering the art. Given this was only his first real time using the gear, he knew he'd spend more days like this afternoon perfecting the art. His need and desire to have it so wouldn't afford for anything less. He'd chosen to come here..it meant Chris had to apply himself in every way possible to prove it hadn't been a mistake on his part. [11/8] I've made it! Heading out to the course with the rest of his class, Lip groaned a bit. He still was feeling like complete crap to the point he actually went to the infirmary. He quietly listened to the instructor then watched the others doing the course. He was proud of Chris's run and hoped his run would go well.
When he began his run, Lip swore he hit almost every tree... whether it be grazing it, hitting his face on it or other various ******** ups... Lip was disheartened by his run. He sighed deeply and tried to pull his sick self back together for the next run...
