Jerry's expression contorted in disappointment, "W-woo-what time is it?? I didn't miss the party did I?? Quick! Do either of you ladies want to dance??" His attention turned to the ladies around them in a frantic panic.
Initially put off by his reply, Abbi turned a hurt look that was just a small thing to Ripley before she wiped it away with a shrug. "Its not going back on my word..." She began, though she knew that it would be going back; She had said 'promise' after all. "You're involved? That was asked with a smile and a slip of her hand back into his, if only for a quick squeeze before she was back off, chirping and fussing over Fini. It was important to do that, not only because she did honestly care and adore this yet unborn friend, but also because she knew things must be hard for Fini. After all, she couldn't be her normal self like this, not with someone else so small and tiny and unknown to protect. But that was ok, Abbi could do that too, even if it just meant lots of petting of Fini's stomach and gentle hugs and coos of encouragement.
A picture was a nice distraction, but a better picture with Ripley was even more preferable. The teen smiled her prettiest and batted her lashes and tried to stop the blushing of being so close. After the photo she smiled at Fini and made some excuse about a dance and food, about being right back before she tried her best to pull Ripley away. The count down was starting and she needed just one small moment between the two of them, really, just a tiny trifle of a few seconds. Moving the man from where they were to what she hoped was a private place in a big ballroom full of people was not the easy task she'd imagined, but Abbi could at least talk on the way. "Involved, huh? What's that uh... What's your angle on that one?" She was trying to be nonchalant, desperate to not appear clingy as she tugged on his arm. "Ya sure you wanna be involved? Its... Probably... Exhausting!" Since she was exhausting, really.
Oh dear sweet Jesus, the gays were out on parade. And for whatever reason they were feeling like congregating around him. And Jack could have handled that, honestly he could have--hadn't he always?--but the worst of it all were the arms snaking around him from behind. Immediately his back stiffened and his head jerked down to see Lucky, smelling strongly of champagne, giving him a dopey grin.
"There's only one drunk here," he spat back at Ian, peeling Lucky off with distaste and smoothing his suit back down. "Not my problem if he's one of those kinds." Quinn had arrived with his own little fairy to boot, joy of joys. Shouldn't they be fussing over fireworks?
< < Or perhaps their 'pocket rockets'? > > Thane suggested lightly, and Jack could clearly hear the smirk in his partner's voice. He mentally growled a curse at the dracolich to shut up and let him think. Years of those sort of barbs hadn't done anything to stop them, so why should this year throw him off? He was still safe; Lucky's drunken antics didn't have to shake his image.
Jack grumbled, taking a step back from the growing group. He couldn't say what he wanted to, in case Lucky actually noticed, God damn him. s**t, he figured Shiloh might have been a wavering queer too (no straight man would think pink at any rate), but it was practically a betrayal to see his friend prancing around.
Not moreso than Lucky's, of course, but he was playing that off. Jack knew this would be hard to explain later, but alcohol facilitated his methods--he could always just feed Lucky more until he (hopefully) forgot. Or something. s**t, he knew he should've gotten drunk while he had the chance.
"What are you doing?" he hissed in Polish to Lucky, or what thereof he knew. "Go away."

It took Finn a surprisingly long amount of time to get from his place standing with Jack and Peyton, to the place where his wife was standing with Ripley and Abbi. So long, in fact, that the countdown to the last ten minutes before midnight had begun, and the death hunter had to wonder at just where the entire evening had gone. Had Fini really taken so long to get ready? Had he really just spent an entire evening avoiding her just because of a few pregnancy hormones?
He knew by the time he found her, he'd be lucky if he even got his midnight kiss.
It took him some time in the increasing crowds of guests to spot her with Ripley and Abbi, having her picture taken, taking a picture of his brother with his girl in return. It was then that he sidled up, giving the trio a happy grin.
"Sorry about that, darling. I kept getting stopped by people asking me how you're doing." He leaned forward to place a kiss against her cheek before offering her the plate. His last glass of champagne had, mysteriously, managed to disappear, though the smell of it was likely strong on his breath.
"You should really find a place to sit." He laughed, perhaps a bit nervously, before turning to Ripley and his date.
It hurt, just a little bit, to see them together like that. Maybe all of this time the only thing that had made things easier was that Ripley hadn't really found anybody else. It gave him a small taste of what it must have been like, those few years ago, when he had started dating Fini. Still, none of that showed in his jovial expression.
"Already almost midnight! Wow this night just flew by. You both look great!" So happy, so cheerful, all bright smiles and eyes lit up with mirth. "I was just over there visiting with Jack. He had that Peyton girl hanging off of him and---" He had turned towards where he had left the giant man standing, and stopped, just sort of staring for a minute at what he was seeing.
"Well I'll be damned."
He then brought his fingers to his lips and let out a long, loud, wolf whistle directed at that group.
If Jack looked his way, he'd give the man a very cheerful looking wave.
And then the other two were off to do whatever couples that weren't about to have a baby did. He was jealous. So jealous.
"Well, what do you want to do, babe? Should probably find that place to sit, hey?"

"Thank you!" Mimsy's chin tilted upward with pride. "Congratulations to you, too - for another year of happiness, I mean. I know that next year will be even happier, if such an achievement is possible. I..I am sure of it."
The moment her glittery heels left the floor, she burst into giggles, cheeks flushing with rosy color again. It delighted her that he was so readily willing to do something just to make her happy, even if it was something as simple as picking her up off of the ground. The starry-eyed look she gave Clerise seemed to ask if she could even believe this was happening, because she hardly could.
"Really? You'd do that for me?" she asked, fingers touching his cheek again. It didn't feel like a broken puzzle piece anymore, and she silently marveled at that fact long enough to miss the emphasis her cousin placed on everything she said to Robert.
Her smile was still one of her happiest when she took Clerise's hand and squeezed it.
"Of course we can. You're the only one I trust to help me." The smile softened into something more adoring, and she pulled her into a clumsy hug. She didn't linger in the embrace for long, assured that she would have the opportunity to hug her again very soon, when everything was less hectic. As she broke away, she leaned her forehead against her cousin's and rubbed their noses together, a soft giggle bubbling within her. "You know...I really believe you're the smart one, between the two of us. But you might fool me into thinking otherwise if you keep saying things like that! Why would I ever want to get rid of you?"
She leaned contentedly against one of Robert's arms.
"I need you! You're a part of me that I could never replace. Not even with children," she teased, fingers affectionately brushing through Clerise's hair before they returned to steady her balance, even if she didn't need it.
"All right!" Her smile widened again, and she playfully scrunched up her nose at Robert. It felt nice to be so close to someone, and the butterflies continued to flutter along in her stomach. "You...may continue with sweeping me."
If personality compatibility was a standard, then Thompson, for that matter, was probably even worse than Jack.
He had his back to Clerise and was divided between fervently hoping she wasn't seeing this and fervently hoping that she not only was seeing it, but was feeling guilty. She wouldn't be. He was aware of this. He'd be subjected to a cackle later, when he'd crawled out from under his hangover and possibly out from under Creedy's sheets, depending on how the next few minutes went. She'd ask for a report.
"Mm. Sour grapes, very unattractive," he told her, but he'd found his way to her side and was nonchalantly sipping his drink when he threaded an arm around her waist as if they were the best of friends. He had, after all, made an offer. He was a man of his word. She was a horrible hag of a human being, but she had phenomenal legs. It was sort of a wash.
And it would piss Bertrand off to no end. The thought cheered him considerably.

People were screaming out the seconds. All he'd said was 'let's go on vacation' and she was smiling, surprised, but hadn't a moment to say anything back due to the volume.
She'ssss going to sssay noooo.
"A vacation.." he shuffled, still talking as if he weren't finished. "Like maybe a honeymoon.." he pulled the box from his pocket and turned it over in his hand. His cheeks were red and he was staring at her intently.
Sssssecondsss. Only ssseconds. C'mon ssssnowflake you can do it.
"So I guess.." It was loud. "I GUESS WHAT I'M SAYING.." Junior looked away from her eyes just a second, now having to almost yell with the countdown going on and so many voices.
Ooooh Robert, don't you make her regret this decision. She'd really hate to try and hide a body that large. Over Mimsy's shoulder, Clerise gave him the universal I'm watching you point. And oh, how she was.
Bless her heart: her dysfunctional, wonderful heart.
"We've talked about this, Doctor, you're the genius. Literally." She buried her face into Mimsy's shoulder briefly, tearing up as their noses brushed. "You wouldn't, but I'm just saying."
Clerise tugged on Mimsy's hair, just one lock of it, in return-- a playful gesture from their youth. "I should hope so. I have your back and you have mine. And Lucky too, since whatever, he's half-family now, or something." She nodded her head at Robert. "And this dope is half-family already, so it's not too much of a stretch."
Clerise pressed one kiss to Mimsy's forehead, and let her go free, and promptly went to hold Ben's hand, clutching it a little bit too tight. Her little baby scientist was going to fly.

"Oh SOMEONE dance with me, quick!!" Jerry yelped before spotting one of his most promising students nearby, striding quickly to grab Otto by the arm and announce loudly, "WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME THIS IS IMPORTANT!!" And promptly gave the boy a twirl.
Eyes crinkled with laughter, Clarice congratulated Mimsy, "Finally, right?" She gave the girl a wink and just basked in the warmth of all the people she'd come to love and care about. After her parents death, she hadn't been sure if she could open herself up enough to allows others to become her family again. The loss of one had been devastating, how could a second family ever be worth the pain of losing it?
But a family that was worth it had found her anyway. It had taken time, and a lot of charming persistence on Ben's part; followed by the at turns demanding, shy, and exciting friendship Clerise had offered; the open, shameless love of Robert; getting watching Gale grow into a man that was making everyone so damn proud; and Leia, Leia who was the culmination of so many good things in her life, and the brightest part of her future.
Sniffing a bit, her smile having grown a bit crooked, Clarice overheard Jerry's question, and latched on to both her redheads. "They're taken, Jerry!"

A thought occurred to him, and with his free hand, Taym dispatched a quick text, half his attention still on Peyton.

You guys look so ******** happy I could vomit. Punch someone before we all lose our teeth from the sweet.
You look beautiful. Even in a suit. Happy New Year. I love you.
Before Otto could even register what was going on (Time was of the essence, afterall,) Jerry noted Clarice's firm grip on Clerise and Ben... which left just Robert and Ramona and Mimsy. "Alright fine!"
Mimsy would understand, he was positive. And could possibly mind Ramona.
He marched back, grabbing Robert by the arm, "C'moooon! Seconds left!" Before the man could fully protest, Jerry started to chant at top speed- "Mosessupposestheroses...."
