Jerry's heart leaped in his throat, eyes darting from book to book before shambling back a step, putting himself between the witch and Dylon, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! That... that was rude of me! Yes, yes I'm... I'm him. The Special Boy." It was worth a shot, right? Better him than the trainee as the guinea-pig, anyway.

All the books abruptly dropped to the floor. "Ahhhh..." the old woman gave a gap-toothed, open mouth smile. Tilting her head, her milky eyes stared blindly up and around as she held the key up in her hand. "A gift for you."

He swallowed, flinching as the books hit the ground around them, but his eyes remained locked on the key as it was offered. A quick glance to her face, one over his shoulder, before he hesitantly reached out to take it.
"Er... th-thank you."

The key was cold to the touch, growing even colder as it slipped into his palm. Soon it crossed that of touch sense, where cold and burning merge into one, excruciating sensation that viciously sears your very core. The key welded itself into his hand, then burrowed further in into the flesh, merging with muscle and bone. It only took a moment, and then Jerry was left with a single black mark across the palm of his hand. The woman gave a gurgling laugh as she began to fade, "Ahhh... ahhh...here we go. He said I'd be free and so I am...ahhh... ahhh. There's seven, you know. He's down below, but you'll be needing all seven to wake 'im." And with that she was gone. The Black Key to ??? The Black KeyIt reduces its bearer's stats by one tier, the lowest possible being a Y1 student. It can be removed through willingly passing ownership of it to another. It can be forcefully removed if two conditions are met: - The bearer is beaten to an HP of 0 or below. - The one taking it is aware of the keys' existence. One person may bear a maximum of two keys at any time.

Jerry was given only a moment to look the large metal thing over before suddenly his skin was bubbling with blisters. Cool metal grew colder until it burned and boiled. With a pained scream, he wobbled back, shaking his hand to try to throw the key down, but the metal stuck to his skin, burrowing deeper. His crutch clattered to the ground as the woman vanished, and he was soon to follow, clutching the limb to his chest as he grit his teeth and curled on the floor as he writhed in pain. This is it... I'll lose the hand. I'll never play guitar again. I'll never play anything again- one handed piano? Oh god, oh god- The pain subsided and he caught his breath, glasses sliding down his sweat-slick nose as he carefully flexed his fingers- He could still move his fingers! Carefully, he lifted the limb, not wanting to look, but looking all the same- No blisters, no scar- except for a strange black mark... "W-well..." He panted, voice a little distant, if a touch manic, "I... I suppose I c-can't... lose it.... ahahah...ahahahhaha...." HP: 46/50 Obtained: 1 key apparently!

Sasha recognized the rune easy enough. She paused and reconsidered her options. Reaching for an onion, Sasha hefted it in her hand before throwing it between the bars of her cage in an attempt to knock the lamp over - for whatever good it would do her.

Dylon didn't like Jerry's plan at all, but if he voiced his concern it would get him into even more trouble. After books flew and tempers flared, Jerry's ruse seemed to work. However.. "Jerry!" Dylon cried after the woman vanished, kneeling down beside the fallen hunter with worry etched into his features. "Jerry that didn't seem like a very smart move...."He frowned, looking at Jerry's hand with a grimace. "Do you fee okay?"

"Felt better," Jerry wheezed, shaking his hand again before flexing his fingers one more just to be sure the key shape wasn't coming off and that he still had use of the hand. "A little... um." He blinked a bit. "Just exhausted, I think."
That had been moronic. "Seven," He mumbled, using Dylon to try to pull himself upright again, at least enough to reach for his make-shift crutch. "She said we'd need... seven for whatever... whatever was downstairs? Maybe the Life Department knows something..." Or at least Sasha. Speaking of which, "We... we should find the others. Immediately." In case he had just gotten himself cursed and was going to die in the next few minutes. There was no need to further spook the trainee, though, right?
"Unless you want to take a look at this Downstairs..."

Dylon shook his head. "No, we should find Sasha. I'd rather not go chasing keys and doors while we're all still separated."

"Yeah... yeah, probably a.. a good idea," Jerry still stared at his palm, wobbling upright. "They definitely aren't here. I suppose we follow another set of tracks and um... hope for the best? I lead us into this mess... your turn, ahahaha..."

Dylon chuckled lightly, hooking an arm under Jerry's to help keep him up. "Yeah, I'll take my hand at directions for now." He helped Jerry out of the Rectory, looking for a different set of prints to follow. "I'm really worried about your hand. That key went inside you.. I hope you're really okay.."

"You and me both, ahahaha." His laugh was nervous, but at least he could still laugh at all. That could have gone a lot worse. "The... the life labs will figure out how to get it um. out. Later." Hopefully without ruining the hand. His stomach clenched at the thought.

As they exited the church, a loud, familiar sound passed overhead. Looking up, a large black helicopter came into sight, a bright blue bow and arrow emblazoned on its side. Those in the moor would see it land not too far off into the distance. Sasha's lips slid into a smug smile at the sight of it, but she quickly schooled her expression back into one of earnest concern. "Something must have happened, yes? We will go and see what it is here for."

Those who reach the helicopter will find two women in Mist coats, intently surveying the area. Seeing the group, their surprise and relief is palpable. "See," the taller one began, "I told you it would be worth one last try, and this is why you shouldn't doubt my intuition. Ever."
The shorter one passed her a twenty, and surveyed the group, "We don't have a lot of time, so save your story for the ride back. We don't know why you guys went missing for nearly a month, but the division leaders are the ones missing now, so this is probably gonna be your last chance out of here for a good long while."
