Ninja Katze That is basically how it is here. The "healthcare" they are making employers pay only has to be paid if you work 27 or more hours a week, so a lot of businesses are just lowering the hours they give employees, or just hiring you in as a 6 month temp worker. They also implemented policies that will fine you if you don't have some form of insurance. So now I will be fined along with having to pay everything out of pocket. I don't understand what people were thinking. The answers seem so simple to me and you, why not them. Your painting skills are really good to look like traditional markers. I can't seem to do that.
At least most businesses actually do give you healthcare..even if they do have to make you work certain hours to get it. Here? Pfffffffttt good luck actually having one if you're not working for a huge multi-corporational-giant. : /
Sales people and small non-conglomerate fast food? Healthcare doesn't exist. You get what you are paid and that's it.
Giant multi-nationals are different but compared to our less than 5$/day minimum wage...>>; That's still waaaaaaaaaaay more healthcare than a usual filipino can afford.
Also Paying by the hour? --- virtually unheard of here. Even the residents I know of get paid barely 5k PHP per month, and that's 36 hour work days with barely 3 days off a year. Sure they get a discount for hospital fees if they get admitted at their own hospitals but 5k PHP is like 100$ per month? XD Hahahaha....
so yeah..work here is not going to make you very rich... unless you actually go to western countries and earn big bucks and then spend it at your home country. (which is why Filipinos are everywhere in the world we have so many overseas workers it's actually part of GNP >>; )
................D: and I can't do painterly style like you do either. I always end up falling back to my marker style XDDDD It's like what makes it my style now...I kind of got proud of it... because it really fools a lot of people.
Thank you Katze. <3 Makes me cherish my art style more.

Yeah you should be proud, I haven't really tried to find a painting style, so much as I'm just trying to improve drawing the subject correctly and proportionately. I used to do everything cell shaded, and would draw a picture, but use the vector tool in photoshop to make thicker lines, but not the way people normally use that tool. It is a tool that can generate shapes and even lines that will maintain their pixel quality no matter how large or small you make it within the program, if you didn't already know. I bought a newer tablet that was new enough to work with my computer and now I color the way I do. I don't like it much, I wish I colored differently. I know I have first world problems, and that there are a lot of other places that have worse problems. One of my friends is an immigrant from China and I'm glad his family was able to get away from that place. Some of the stories he told me were awful. He said his family saved for years to buy tickets from China to here to have a better life. His father had to walk around 7 miles every day from their village to get into town to work for basically nothing, and they have mandatory year long military boarding school to prep 11 or 12 year old children for the military. I wish it was different for everyone. People shouldn't have to live some of the ways they are forced to.

It really does matter what you use initially when you start out with digital art. XD It's what I've found out. It's also a bit of trying to marry your real style and those in digital mediums.
O__o Out of my entire group of RL friends...I'm the only one who successfully shifted to digital coloring. My one friend who is known as Kannibal in tumblr, tends to have a graphic novel style with thick sketching lines and simple one shade colorings, while my other friend tended to have gothic style with barely any use of color at all, she is Yysil on tumblr. But oddly enough we basically stayed with out respective styles since we were kids. XD I was obsessed with coloring even at a young age while they were more interested in comics (Kannibal) and Gothic art (Yysil.)
How did you initially start your art Katze? Maybe it'll explain your art style now? OvO
I know of Vector...one of my friends who works as a graphic artist on facebook headpages (3rd party compnay). The DA Gallery. I've never gotten the hang of such a technical drawing style.
>>; I tend to draw and color everything through free hand. XDDDD I only use hue/sat at the end of my artsing.....>>; Used to use soooooooooooooooooooo many layers... but now I'm used to using only 1-2. One for colors and one for lines. That's it. O_O
Yup. That's the good thing about the WEST...in comparison to most of South East Asia. XD We're just happy that we have food, shelter, decent amount of sleep and internet is an extra bonus. <3333 Good health is very important because we know going to a doctor means lots of $$$. However that also means when a Filipino goes to the hospital...they are most likely in the worst situation already. I.E. I've seen people working with active appendicitis XD and then the only time they actually go to the hospital is when it's finally burst and they've gone septic. >>;
And/or how a lot of Filipinos would rather loose all their teeth than fix 1 rotting tooth.

I have always liked art, so when I started is a bit blurred now. I do remember my first drawing ever, well the first legible drawing I did that wasn't scribbles. This shoe brand was really popular in the 90's, and I had drawn the dog on a notepad while commercials where playing. I was 3, now 25, but my mother picked it up, and asked me in a surprised manner "did you do this?" because it was apparently way better then she thought I was capable of. I also taught myself to tie my own shoelaces the next year. I do know I got serious about it when I was around 14, because I dropped band to be in all art classes. I was not into going to competitions, sitting around for 4 hours, and losing because all those other schools have way more kids, and more funding because of it. I have found a lot of artists over the years on the internet, but there are no other people irl around me that like art, draw, or understand anything about art. Most like music or singing. I have a friend who did like art, and paints, but she doesn't actively seek to get better, it's a "look at me" talking point so she can be more popular with the fellas. Why get better when it's already fulfilling it's purpose. It must be nice to be able to draw, or talk about it with your friends and them actually being just as interested. Please tell your friends their art is awesome, especially Kannibal, I do enjoy that newest portrait sketch. My biggest interest is animation, but that's just a dream, I do not have the funds for art school, which apparently at it's minimum still costs 200k. There are also no art colleges in my state. That job market will be overly saturated by the time I get through the classes anyways. I look up to people who draw realism, but enjoy the really detailed anime the most. This is probably my favorite artist, anime wise. I love the way they paint. You may have seen Voievoda before, she commissioned me, this is what I've got so far, though this one is smaller. That background bugs the s**t out of me, it looks lame on the right side...

You definitely remember more than me that's for sure. I started out with stick men...waging epic chinese battles of conquest drawn behind the extra papers my father would bring home from work. xD I watched too much Peking Opera as a child...>>; and I didn't even understand what they said. Then I graduated to anime....and that's probably evident in my style.
It also figures you'd drawn a dog XDDD it makes all those anthro-ish tendencies and realism in your current stye more explainable.
Well the place I live in is a City so it's a lot bigger than your town although we're definitely a tiny island compared to elsewhere XD but I gravitated to the only few people who could draw in almost 3 levels at school. We became a sort of weirdo/artist clique thing without meaning to. >>; In the end. But man...life would have been so different if I experienced what you did. We drew because we loved to draw and not to garner attention. Although I know some people who did.
..............actually none of us took our art seriously the way you seemed to. It has always been a hobby. XD Like me, never took an official art class in my life...most I know is self-taught or by internet tutorial. Because in my country it's a rare rare thing for an artist to earn enough to feed themselves. People go into fine arts so they can go into advertising and few actually become an "artist" in the main sense of the word. Although most I know earn side-money from being commissioned by Westerners online.
I'll tell Kannibal you said that. OvO Thanks!
Yeah XDDDD animation. I have a friend who wanted to do the same as you did. She's CCann here in Gaia...mostly she's inactive though. But it's been her dream yet most Filipinos, when we don't have a good television making background as a country, think that's hard to pull off so...now she's a Doctor.
Oh man...Korean Manwha artists are so awesome! D: They have more amazing art quality than Japanese mangas...Gah. Love that style though. Just can't stand the comic style. XD Illustration yeah...but the comic content itself? --not my thing.
...........I think it's because the clouds are so concentrated with the mountains on one side that having all that empty and low flat forests on the other side makes it weird?

I don't actually remember drawing that dog, just the fact that I did and my mom showing it to me. I've seen those Peking opera shows, among a few other chinese tv shows. My friend had 10 Chinese channels. I had no idea that satellite tv here had it or even offered Chinese television. They sure do like soap operas, I watched a lot of them. And contest talk shows. My friend used to be more into art and improving. She lost interest in art I think. I've tried to get her interested in it, and perhaps help her improve, but she looked at my art and said, "yeah you developed a style, I never really did" and just left it at that. I tried explaining that style comes later but I don't think she is really interested in improvement, just using art for her own means. That's ok, we just aren't as good of friends anymore. People tend to get lives after 23. This is her deviantart, she hasn't update for 3 years or so, but her style never really got past that. We are a small town surrounded by much bigger towns, most having 30k or more in them. There are smaller towns that surround us, but they are in what is considered the countryside. I can't call them more then villages, since having 100 people or less certainly isn't a town, perhaps more like a settlement. Most live right off the highway, next to woodlands. People aren't really into art here because the school administration never spends money on it other then the minimum requirements. My art education in public school was, "this is a mosaic, woo colored pencils, lets make a linoleum stamp" which encompassed more then one year, more like 3, so I didn't do any real art until my last year in school, other then learning myself at home from the internet. I'm sure the larger surrounding towns have much better art programs, and a larger student population. I think our town is involved in drug trafficing, so businesses aren't really allowed to move in, and people prevent our town from growing. For such a small town, we are one of the only places with an airport that small small planes can land at. There is nothing here, why would anyone need to land a small to medium sized plane. They aren't delivering things for businesses, we don't have any that could ever afford something like that. But that airstrip is used, a lot, and we have a lot of drug crime in our city, and they have busted at least 1 meth lab a year for the last couple of years. I have spent a lot of time by myself or on the internet for my entire life, and drawing is just something that is cheap, and takes no one else to do. It was a way to stand out since no one else could draw too. I was in the top 50 of my class, and graduated with honors for being in all the advanced classes, but everyone looked at me as that weird nerd girl, because I knew how to use a computer, played video games, and wasn't into spending all my time being obsessed with what guys are going to do to me. Plus, even though I was a nice person, they looked down on me for not having rich or middle class parents. My pants weren't 100 dollars and that really means something to them. I didn't really care, just as long as you aren't bothering me or wasting my time. I had other nerdy friends, and a lot of guy friends, since even though I am girly, I am not a stereotypical female, and don't know why they are so uppity and stressed all the time. Not having a lot of friends made summers boring so I figured I should get better at drawing, it was one of the only things I go back to. It take it seriously, but it will still always be a hobby. I don't have the money to try to get training and go for a real illustration job, or even advertising. Most employers aren't going to hire you and then provide you with a house and all that, and I have no resources to even live on my own, I still live with my mother and I'm married. emotion_facepalm It's super embarrassing, but we can't live on our own right now. I did finally switch doctors the other day, and he immediately started to solve my husbands problems, and came to the conclusion that he has torn one of this knee ligaments within the first 15 minutes. He scheduled an MRI for his knee, and will refer us to a doctor that will allow us to pay for surgery based on our income. 4 years of this, because the doctor we had been using wouldn't do anything about it. He referred us to a specialist, who also didn't do anything, they just want our money, and we couldn't get any other doctors to see us from our lack of insurance. This doctor is new and opened within the last year. I know you will be one of those people who will try to do all you can for people, or at least I hope so. I am going into medical debt, I don't care, I have to otherwise my husband and I will not have a life from him not being able to work. Yeah I think once I add the water flowing up on that side, since she is a water bender, it won't be so bland.

Started a bit on the quest system thread modifications. Just some of the headings... and made the Niki pirate kitty rating system into a skull rating.
Also should we stick to this formating style for the main HOW TO/Introductory thread in subforums?
Unless you have better organization suggestions? XD /too lazy to color code...>>;

Updated NPC ART:Shifter Rep... Character Name: George WolffHe started out simply as a normal human in Nocte but couldn't quite fit in and before long ended up living in the slums. Ironically, he was soon bitten and infected by a werewolf, just like his surname. Eventually he came to accept his place as a wolf in Nocte and now strives for equal rights and decent wages for weres.
