John felt relieved that she readily accepted his idea. "Don't worry. I won't let go," he smiled. "I'll be by your side whenever you want or need me. I promise." He ran his fingers through her hair gently and hummed a lulluby the colonel used to sing him when he was still a child. It was embarassing to think that he ever used to be afraid of the dark, running into the colonel's room whenever the shadows seemed to move or a sudden boom of thunder startled him; he smiled fondly, hoping that one day his son would come running to him. With a sinking feeling, John realized that might never happen. He forced the thought from his mind and instead just enjoyed the time he had with Keira.

Keira smiled. "I will always love you John, that I promise you. I hope you don't let me go." Keira heard him hum a lullby as she started to fall asleep. Eventually she did. "I love you John." She whispeared as she closed her eyes to John's voice.

The morning came quickly and brought with it news of what had transpired between Keira and John at a local inn and tavern. He frowned over his coffee. A headache was spreading quickly.
As soon as he had finished his breakfast, he dressed quickly and ran down to the stables. Henry climbed into the carriage and closed the door behind him. He'd have to have a few stern words with John.

Keira woke up with a jolt as she calmed herself as she found she was in John's arms as he slept. Keira had a smile on her face as she kised John's cheek, the sun was slowly rising bringing a new day. Keira didn't want to move but she knew she had. "John, wake up." She whispeard.

John woke to Keira's soft voice and smiled, pulling her into a passionate kiss. "Good morning, Keira. How did you sleep," he asked, wrapping a thick blanket around her and pulling her into his arms.

Keira blushed as she returned his kiss. She nuzzled his neck as she playfully bit it. "I actually slept peacefully. When your around my nightmares go away." She snuggled into his arm. The thought of having his children popped into her head.

The colonel sat in the carriage as the driver entered the inn. He heard footsteps on the gravel and the carriage door swung open. A tall, dark haired man took the seat across from him, closing the door. "Orin. What can I do for you?"
Orin eyed the colonel before answering. "I want my uniform and station back." Henry gave a small smile, trying to hide the triumph he felt inside. "Of course, first lieutenant. But why the sudden change of heart?"
Orin simply gave him a piercing glance and departed. Henry watched him stalk toward his inn and disappear inside. "What a strange man..."

John sighed, but agreed. Just as he stood, a man came bustling through the door to escort them to the carriage. "Right. Let us just get our things and we'll be right there." As he made his way to the back chamber, Orin rushed past them through the front door. John shook his head in confusion. "Not my business. Here," he said, picking up a brown package and handing it to Keira. "From Orin." He picked up a couple more after making the beds and putting out the fire. They headed for the front door, Orin once again rushing past them and heading upstairs. "Pleasant journey," he called over his shoulder. John shrugged it off and led the way into the morning sun.

Keira looked at the package. "What is it?" She asked as she looked at it. She watched Orin come in and out wondering if he was alright. Keira picked up a few bags as she walked with John. She stopped short as she blushed in shame as she realized the Colonel was in there. "I'm afraid to face him." She whispeared to John.

John took a deep breath. "Me too. But you have nothing to worry about, I'm sure... Come on. We'd better not keep him waiting." John helped Keira into the carriage. He waited for the colonel to say something, but he simply stared at John in silence. He knew better than to try and speak to Henry; instead, he simply held Keira's hand and avoided his gaze by staring out the window.

Keira got in the carrige as she felt embaressment and shame wash over her. She held John's hand as she gently squeezed his hand. She looked down at the brown package from.Orin to avoid his gaze, but she felt like John is more in trouble than her.

When the carriage had finally reached its destination, John helped Keira down onto the cobblestone path. The colonel pulled him back in and closed the door, drawing the blinds over the window.
"Just what were you thinking," he asked, his voice dangerously low.
John shifted in his seat. "I know it was foolish to try and press her to be a bit more social..."
The colonel grabbed him by the front of his shirt. "I am referring to the fact that you stumbled around the woods after her, unprotected! You could have been killed. Our enemies could have taken you, then all that you have done to keep Keira safe, all that you have done to save our world, would have been in vain!"
The colonel released him, throwing him back into his seat. "Do not be so foolish again!" After a brief silence, he finally spoke. "It might interest you to know our friend Orin has demanded his old position back. He's rejoined our army. You'll keep an eye on him, I'm sure."
With that, the colonel led the way out of the carriage and into the sunlight where Keira stood waiting.

Keira waited as she didn't want to leave John. She waited as the maids approached her with scowls. Keira was honestly terrfied of these old ladies. "I'm sorry forgive me Miss. Turner, I didn't mean to ruin it." She heard the tsk and the anger but they were glad she was alright. Keira looked down as the colonel got out. She knew she had to talk to him but she still felt ashamed as she reacted wrong.

John gave Keira a swift kiss on the cheek and departed to his duties with the new recruits, leaving her alone with the colonel. They walked side by side up the cobbled lane toward the house. "I am not angry with you Keira," he told her, reading the expression on her face, "I am merely concerned. Though you are no longer a target, you are John's fiance. He will go to any lengths to protect you. However, now that he is to... play an important role, it would be unwise to put him in such a position. Not only that, but you are my daughter - once the ceremony has been performed, at least - and if anything happened to you..."
He stopped short, emotion rising in his voice. Henry sat upon the marble front steps and cleared his throat. "Well, I just couldn't handle it."
