The spider was in pain from being thrashed about, and it began to retreat. As it did so, it continued to make the strange spitting noise, and then it left the moonlight. It was gone back into the bushes and depths of the maze where it could recover, although it would not be up to another fight, until long after the champions had left.

Left…right…left again…twice I found myself facing dead ends. I did the Four-Point spell again and found that I had been going too far to the east. I turned around and took the first right I could find. It seemed like I had been running though this maze forever and with no hope of find the end of the maze and the glittering crystal Triwizard cup that awaited the lucky champion who managed to make it to the end first. The dark confined space of the tunnels started to bring back the dark hopeless feeling that I felt two years ago in that small forest near my house as the rouge Death Eaters chased me though the forest determined to kill me for discovering them. Flashes of that terrible night worked their way out of my subconscious mind and into the forefront. I could see image’s flash across my mind, the sight of curse’s just missing me, the sound of the Death Eaters laughing, pain as I crashed into ground after tripping over a log, the smell of wet grass and the coppery smell of blood pouring out of my nose. I paused for a moment in the maze, trying to push those terrible memories back into the box where they belonged.

Not allowing anything else to come by and eat her, Liviana nonverbally (now she was a master) used Diffindo to cut herself down from the silken death trap.

Liviana crashed into the dirt, and quickly pulled herself up again, not even looking back at the severed leg nearby. She shivered. The night was coming in, and what little sun she could see was fading fast. It was time to move on. She had not run across or heard any screams from Kenneth or Aludra. It was safe to assume they were further along than she. Quickly, Liviana grabbed her wand and began to run, trying to make up for lost time again.

Aludra Yvette...

The event with the spider had shaken her considerably. A large little pest like that could have had her throat beneath its large bright pinchers in a millisecond. It was by pure luck that Aludra's mind had reacted better to the pressure of nearly being eaten then just trying to remember a few simple offensive spells.

It had been about an hour since she had entered the maze and was still no closer to finding the end then when she had began. The maze seemed as alive as ever. Its branched seemed to move around her, watching her every move. The maze and the creatures it held were plotting against her, to devise her ruin. They wanted her beaten and broken before she got out of the maze.. and she was afraid they would do it. Aludra peered around each corner carefully before walking in that direction. Any other sign of trouble and she would run in the other direction, she didnt want any more chances for her to hurt herself. "They're not going to get me, not tonight." she whispered to herself, stroking her wand gently in her hands. That was her life line now. With her wand, she would surely meet her end.

The wounds that the gnomes had given her itched more then ever and caused quite a distraction themselves, but Aludra didnt want to waste her magical energy. She knew that it would be need the farther she got into the maze, and the closer she got to her freedom.

After her encounter with the gnomes and then the serious game she played with the spider, Liviana wanted nothing more than to just survive. However, the maze seemed to be more than just a well thought out piece of horticultural aesthetics.

Every time Liviana turned a corner, the previous corridor closed itself off by spontaneously growing more semi-dead thorns over the opening. If she came to a dead end, the maze would not let her turn around the way she came. She was forced to journey in whatever new direction it wanted to take her in. Sneakily enough, it seemed to take the Ravenclaw in placed she had most certainly been before. Oh, yes, that spider leg she had passed by seemed to be the same one from the last two times she had gone by it. Or was it?

Liviana began to get frustrated, and very much exhausted. Her wounds from the gnomes were not faring much better than before, save that they were only bleeding slightly. Though tired, she knew she could not afford to waste anymore time on breaks. Not that she would want to stop moving at this point. Every twig that snapped, or burst of wind that whistled eerily through the hedges could be something that wanted to hurt her.

Liviana kept moving, her wand out, and gripping it as though it were a vice.

Then, suddenly, something attached itself to the champions nearby. It had lingered for a moment, but hurled itself to the champion's wandering feet as if destined to do so. It was soft and springy, with vines creeping and crawling across it's captor's legs. It was Devil's Snare. This deadly plant was curling itself, winding ever faster around the champions, faster and faster, flourishing in the dark, damp maze. It bound their legs together, constricting them, moving quickly forward to the champion's waiting neck, to strangle it and moving in for the kill....

Aludra Yvette...

Aludra had made turn after turn and felt she was getting no where. Kenneth and Liviana were probably so much farther ahead of her... as brilliant as Liviana was and as brave as Kenneth was, they were probably out of the maze an hour ago. In her mind she was envisioning them sitting next to each other up in the Champions tent, eating a hearty victory dinner to celebrate them getting out of the maze alive... sipping on their tea and pumpkin juice. It was sickening. They were laughing together, toasting that she must have perished inside of the maze. 'One down.' one of them would say. It would be much easier for one of them to win that way. Salty tears stung her eyes as she ran forward. "I hate you.." she muttered to herself, unable to get the visions of Liv and Kenneth celebrating her demise. "I HATE YOU!" Aludra screamed loudly. Her scream of hatred seemed to satisfy those sinful thoughts in her mind as she snapped back to the real reason she was in the maze. 'Find an exit, get out, find safety.'

"Ive got to get out of here." Aludra said aloud, talking to anyone who would listen. The maze was starting to scare her. She would never have these hateful thoughts towards her friends otherwise. She loved her friends... right?

Sitting on the cool mist covered ground with my face in my hands I tried to push those horrible memories back into my subconscious. Those memories would be of no use to me in here, they were only hampering my ability to continue. For the longest I didn’t think I would be able to lock them back up, my hand moved over to my wand, you know the spell, just say it, send up red sparks and have someone come get you. It would be so much easier than fighting with your own mind, go on cast the spell. I was nearly ready to comply with what my mind was telling me, when the image of Aludra , Liv and the tournament cup flashed across my mind. It caused this force to build up inside me, what was I doing sitting here, whining like a little kid? Am I not a fully qualified wizards, how would it look for someone with my skills to be sitting here thinking about quitting, just giving in and going home without a fight. If I acted like that, then I wouldn’t be here now I would have died in that forest two years ago. Pulling myself off the ground I brushed the dirt off, and looked around trying to get my barring. I was nervous, I had no idea how much time I had wasted, while I had been sitting there on the ground, lost in those painful memories, I need to make up that lost time. Picking my wand up off the ground I said, “Point Me” the wand spun in my palm and pointed to the right, okay I was just a little to the southeast of the maze’s end.

Something bombarded Liviana's path, making her jump, but she realized it was only another part of the maze closing itself off to her. She did not hesitate as it came closer to her. She figured it was time the maze took her in another direction.

And yet, the leaves were not thorny like those usually covering her path. The leaves came closer to her body and brushed against her skin. 'No, these were quite soft,' she thought, taking a step closer to the origin of this strange vine. She wished she actually had Herbology. That class would have come in handy right-

Suddenly the seemingly friendly leaves launched themselves at Liviana, and the vines wrapped around the young Ravenclaw's throat, wrists, and legs.

The more she struggled, the tighter the plant's grip became. Liviana's world was one of desperation and fear as the vines squeezed the life out of her. Her mind went numb as the world turned black and white. She truly was going to die.

Resigned to this, the Ravenclaw's body went limp, and she closed her eyes, trying to ease the pain in her legs caused by the vines' pressure on her gnome-bitten legs. If this was her fate, she would not make it any worse than it had to be.

Liviana slid quickly and peacefully into death. She felt her soul floating for a brief moment and then going below the earth- below? 'Why am I going downwards?' she thought, a bit irked. She collided with something cold and hard.

Opening her eyes, she realized she was in some sort of pit, one that was pitch black, cold, and earthy. "This can't be Hell," Liviana said hoarsely. With a wave of pain, her legs began to sting, as did her neck and wrists, along with a newly-made knot on her head.

Groping for her wand, Liviana decided it was best to see where she was. When she found it, she called, "Lumos."

At the same time her world was lit up, the vine-y plant above withered away. Liviana froze in the pit, realizing this is where the it came from. She did not know what it was, or why it did not like sunlight, but next year she would talk to Professor Sing about taking Herbology.

Using the spell Ascendio, Liviana pulled herself out of the pit and continued navigating her way around the hall of horrors.

I was racing along the path, my mind fully set on making up for lost time. Snorting at myself, you wouldn't have lost all that time, if you could keep those blasted memories buried deep down now would've ya. Still fighting with myself, that's a fight that could last forever, I didn't see the vines slowly working there way out of the ground. Running straight though them I was instantly snared and fell face first into the hard earth.

Stunned by the the sudden misdirection and the impact with the earth, I was unable to prevent the vines from twisting around my legs and torso. More vines erupted from the ground around me, and twisted around my neck and arm that wasn't pinned under my chest. The vines closing in around my neck, slowly caused me to gap at any and all the air I that I could work down my constricting wind pipe. I could see black spots popping into my vision and my head was exploding with pain as I was slowly being suffocated.

Aludra Yvette...

"So far, everything is safe, I'm safe." Aludra assured herself, so certain that she would remain to be 'safe' as long as she told herself so. But oh how wrong she was. While walking around a corner to follow what seemed like a never ending path, she tripped and fell flat on her stomach. She groaned and lifted her face up from the ground that was now covered in dirt. "Oh, Merlin, curse those stupid hedge roots." It must have been the third one she had tripped over in an hour. Aludra looked back and found it to be not a root, but some plant that was wrapping itself around her legs. A vine of some type that was entwining around her body, seductively winding across her. It seemed to sense the panic that its prey was feeling and moved quicker up her body.

Aludra eyes widdened as big as saucers as she saw the wicked plant trying to constrict to her. By the time she realized that it was Devil's Snare, it was too late for her to calm herself so it would leave. It had wrapped its way around her waist, squeezing tightly as it worked it way up her chest and slide elegantly around her neck. 'Isnt it grand, you can wear it as a necklace at your funeral.' a familiar males voice played in her head. Aludra thrashed with her wand in her hand as she argued back. "I bet you'd like that wouldnt you. You can be with your other girlfriend." she choked. Aludra struggled, wanting to be free of this cursed plant to continue on her way... but the more she struggled the tighter the plant began. In her early years of Herbology she remember her Professor saying 'these little boogers hate sunlight'. The Snare was choking off her air supply fast, she only had enough air left in her lungs for one last spell… “Lumos Solem…” she gasped. A bright light emitted from her wand and seemed to stick to the Devil‘s Snare. It was a fact that these little beasts hate the sun, and it just so happened that this form of lumos had the intensity of brightness of it. Aludra shut her eyes tight and looked away to protect her vital eye sight as her spell did its work.

The Devil's Snare recoiled almost immediately, as suddenly as it had come to life, it slithered away back into the depths of the maze, back into it's home of darkness where it lived.

This was it I was going to die in this bloody maze, suffocation was a horrible way to go. Having the life slowly extinguished from your body was not a happy experience. I had always thought that if I didn't die from old age, it would be because I threw myself into a path of a spell taking the hit for a loved one.

A tiny voice deep inside was screaming for me to fight, not to give in, you had to live, think of Aludra when she learned that you had died in the maze, think of your parents and sister, and all the other people who loved and cared for you. Slowly I forced the blackness away, taking in some ragged breaths I managed to just get enough air in to clear my mind for one spell. I let that feeling of love rush though my body, gripping my wand tightly I thought 'Incendio.'
