"My power isn't just sweetly flavored kisses, Sam. I get into people's heads with the kiss. That aside, it wouldn't be too hard to figure out that the bullet left at the crime scene wasn't fired by you, or the keepers...which leaves Jeffery." She eyed him back, "Quit being so damn suspicious and eat your pancakes. If I was one of them, you'd know by now."

Kat shook her head, "not with the way your power works, Sam, and I've always taken the less direct approach. I let people walk into their own doom." She decided not to explain, and instead sat down at the table, her own face holding no small bit of worry. "I don't know. It's a possibility, but we'll help him if he needs it."

Kat looked from the pancakes to Sam. "You watched me put the pancakes together, hun, unless Jeffery poisoned the vanilla or the eggs, you're fine." The pancakes were a simple enough recipe, with just a hint of cinnamon and spices, giving it a slight french toast taste.

Kat rested her elbow on the table, "How long have you known the Coach, Sam?"

"So I might have been able to sneak in some arsenic from the Coach's pantry." She chuckled at the idea. "A few years is good, though he's starting to boggle me a slight bit. I may have to push him into an actual kiss some time, instead of the peck that he thought was somehow effective."

"He knows what I do, and I don't kiss people for pleasure," she paused, catching herself with thoughts of the kiss she'd shared the night before, "usually," she added quietly as if almost feeling slightly guilty for it.

She let out a soft sigh, "You'll probably find it yourself, but a useful power has it's fair share of curse."

Kat paused as her phone rang. She took it out to see Rook's number on the screen. "Means I probably have to take this."

She answered the phone call from sent from another thread and was surprised to hear Roxy's voice instead of Rook's. "Hey, Rox. Wait....what? I'm in the middle of something. Well tell Rook I'm not a damn spy-checker-on-demand. If he wants me to kiss someone I do it on my own time, I've already got two people in my...no." Kat sighed leaning back the chair, "no, I can usually handle upwards of three, but I'll likely be cranky and have a headache afterwords."

After a moment of silence as Roxanna droned on on the other end, Kat slunk a bit lower in the chair, looking fairly miserable. "Tell Rook to hold the base for a while, I'll be there, but I'm taking my damn time. I don't care if he wants me there immediately. I'm not a damn call gi....all right, so I may share a few attributes, but still." The conversation finally came to an end and she turned the phone off, looking very much grumpy.

Kat leaned forward and rested her forehead on the table. "Sometimes it feels that way....but 'We're a team and have to work like it.'" Kat let out a sigh, "If he heard me say that it would probably break his heart. Though god knows I'm likely to break his heart eventually, he's too much a greenie boyscout for his own good, but it's not something I look forward to."

"The rundown is, they've got a suspected spy. Came running in yelling about keepers killing her family...a concept they don't explain to people when they're kidnapping them, killing their family, slaughtering their livestock..whatever, you get the idea. They want me to check and see if she's genuine."

"She showed up at Marcus Shipp's house. We have no actual tie to him, so I have a feeling it was a trap that didn't actually involve the expectation that I would be there." She shrugged slightly. "Roxanna probably wants to know her mind, not necessarily just for spy stuff, but if she's savable as well. Sometimes backsliders come running in doing stupid stuff too, she could just be testing the waters before revealing who she is. I have no idea how a backslider like that would have survived long, but kissing the girl is an easy price to pay for a few answers."

Kat stood up from her chair, though still taking her blasted time. She turned to the kitchen and started putting the pancakes away.

Kat let out a sigh, "I might be able to kick a few people, but no." She turned towards the hallway, walking slowly. "However, you make a fair suggestion. and this way, he won't have to know that I've peeked in any of his secrets."

She walked to the coach's room, slowly opening the door and peeking in.
