A blue. Well, that was okay, Arioth decided, looking him over. He could be interesting. More interesting than Varth. You are okay if you do not take mine, she declared. Mine cut mine up for me, yours will cut for you.

By the Egg...she didn't share very well, did she? "He won't take your food Arioth. I don't think Mal would let him." Running an appraising glance over the blue that earned a snort from Arioth, Rinfala nodded. "Weyrlings. What do I call you now, anyways?"

"Balin's brother? You don't say!"

The Hatching was momentarily forgotten as Nasunda turned her attention to the mini Balin. Er, what had he said his name was? Bachin? Bachi? Bachey? The first one sounded right. Besides, Bachin was pretty close to Balin, and that went along with the Pernese naming traditions. Feeling quite pleased with herself, she reached over and ruffled Bachi's hair. "Hello there Bachin! I'm Nasunda, Sen's best friend in the whole world, and possibly any other world. You enjoying the hatching so far?"

She didn't get much of a chance to wait for an answer as a blue and green made their way through the group, searching for theirs. Feeling no pull towards them, and the same could be said for Bachi and Sen by the looks of it, she folded her arms over her chest and watched them. "Aaw... now that's brotherly and sisterly love right there. Nice change of pace, don't you think?"

The eggs weren't waiting long, now. The Kiger Mustang Egg started to stir, as though Hwinth had woken the dragon inside when she knocked against his egg earlier. This large beast certainly took its time, lazily rocking back and forth, back and forth. It would pause for a while, as though tired, before resuming its back and forth, back and forth. It was, to be frank, quite boring, when compared with its siblings.

Meanwhile, the large Clydesdale Egg had started to wiggle. Wayward, there wasn't much it could to but squirm on its side. Fortunately, the dragon inside seemed strong; the egg was already cracking. The dragon inside paused and one, two, three! A bright blue burst forth, tumbling over his wing and falling to the ground with no grace at all. The crowd crooned as the little baby struggled to his feet, only to realize he wasn't little at all. That blue...he was as big as a little brown! Huge!

All eyes on the bumbling Clydesdale, the Kiger Mustang had rocked itself onto its side, shell cracking slightly. The dragon inside gave a kick, revealing a dark leg. A brown? The leg disappeared, only to reveal a dark nose...followed by a much, much lighter body. The shimmer made it completely obvious. A bronze. He was stunning, fading out darker on the legs and tail. And he knew it, too.

He stood, shook himself out and paused, letting everyone get a good look. How could they not? His only competition was the blue who continued to fall all over the place.

Westren clapped when the Blue and fussy Green Impressed. They had not been angry Hatchlings, for which he was glad. The next Hatchlings, a Bronze – a handsome bronze – and a very large Blue.

‘ The Blue and Green Impressed. Now there’s a Bronze, hm, and a big Blue. Angry Hatchlings, big Hatchlings; interesting Hatching, yes.’

‘ Mine was not interesting?’

Quinnel chuckled. ‘ No, yours was the best.’

Katori Kenshin
Merik clapped for the Green, if a little less enthusiastically than when he first started. He didn't want maulings, but the Hatching had calmed down considerably, and the night candlemarks were starting to wear on his excitement. He wasn't tired, just... not exceptionally bubbly.

Zafir took the brief moment of calm after the loving pair had Impressed to look back at his much taller friend. Though they had not known eachother long, Zafir knew exhaustion beginning to threaten when he saw it, and thought it looked both out of place and unattractive on Merik's usually eager visage.

"Ah, now, if I've missed two, and three have gone on right in front of me, that still leaves plenty for both of us." Zafir stated calmly, and the words came out more as fact than reassurance. That was probably for the best. "And if you don't get one all to yourself, I'll make you something. Steal bits of fabric and whip up a fine, gather-ready tunic for you, which we will go out and celebrate like madmen in. Am I clear?"

And then, once more, the eggs began spitting forth life. A big blue, and, if he remembered right, the first bronze of the clutch. Perhaps the only, who could say. For the first moment since the event had begun, Zafir felt a pang of emotion slip through his enforced apathy. Something almost like fear. If there was one thing he did not want, it was a bronze. Leadership did not sit well on his shoulders, nor did the idea of having to spend his life vying for power, as seemed the lot of a bronzerider.

Ferris choked. Literally choked. On her own spit.

"E-excuse me?" she sputtered, her eyes wide and she coughed a little and stared at the very... evenly speaking, little green sitting in front of her. "You -- you're..." She honestly was dumbfounded and completely lost for words ... which had never ever happened before, and that could be vouched for.

As Hwinth nudged her hand, Ferris drew it up in the air for a second. "Hooo woah woah. wait. wait... you're serious, right? How is this happening? WEYLIN, YOU LITTLE --"

Ferrismine, words! Did you not hear me before?

Ferris glanced from Weylin and his bonded and back down to Hwinth. She still shook a finger at the young man, but kept her wide eyes on Hwinth as she spoke on. "You... you so set this up. You-- all you, Weylin."

At this, the little green gave a tilt of the head. Oh, Ferrismine. This was all in my plan. Always in my plan. You are mine, I am yours, that's how it was planned out and that's how it is. Now... can we eat, please? I am hungry -- YOUR Hwinth is hungry.

There was really no arguing with a statement like that. ... Anf so, coming to the unbelievable, surreal, mind boggling terms, Ferris nodded and moved out from the crowd with Hwinth at her side.

"Hwinth?"

Yes, Mine? .

"Can I pet you?" Ferris asked, her voice shaky. It seriously looked like she was about to cry, and this made the little green quite confused.

What? Mine... of course. We our each others now...Pet at your leisure? I certainly don't mind.

The befuddled girl nodded and laid her hand on the side of Hwinth's small head, caressing softly, once more at a loss for words.

Once again the eggs seemed to be cracked in pairs, she noted, as not one, but two began to rock at once. First to appear was what Canth had assumed to be at least a brown from the size, except... no, there was most definitely something VERY unbrown about the color. A blue? Certainly larger than the other ones she'd seen bumbling around thus far, and not the most graceful of dragonets, either.

He'd gotten to his feet though... just in time for the next one to show, earning a long, mildly confused look. Brown? No... no, that didn't seem quite brown to her, for what she could wager, nor did 'in-between' varieties of dragons exist, which meant it had to be a bronze.

Bronze...

That was what all the little boys dreamed of when they boasted becoming riders, she vaguely recalled: the greatest and largest of all regal beasts. Naturally anything with ovaries had no running at them, though it was fascinating to watch... especially beside its brother.

Shards, that blue brother was massive... and still not too coordinated? He seemed even more awkward than all the rest so far, poor thing. Was it going to need assistance just lumbering over to its chosen?

Firyal shook herself out of the funk that was threatening at the corners of her mind by doing flicking the worst of the cuts on her forearm. The sudden shock of pain was more than sufficient to blank her mind and allow her to reassert herself over the hopeless feeling. Two more eggs had hatched, and though the...bronze?...wouldn't have any interest in her, there was the slimmest chance that the enormous blue might decide he wanted a female rider. If the clumsy beast ever made it to the Candidates. Maybe he would do as other dragons in the past had done and simply wait for his bondmate to come to him. That might be safer for him. Clumsy dragons were as capable of wreaking havoc as malevolent ones.

She caught Veyes looking at her and wondered what he was thinking. She raised her eyebrows and nodded toward the pair of dragons. One of those two might be for the hopeful young man, and there was no good reason for anyone on the sands to watch her when there were dragons hatching. Without a colossal effort she was able to lie to herself and convince herself that she still had every chance in the world to Impress. She wondered what her grandfather, a Mindhealer, would have said about the use to which she was putting her gift for storytelling, which she had always placed in the same category as lying.

Spotting two more eggs rocking and then hatching, Terisa smiled at the two little boys, well, they weren't actually that little.... But since she found it unlikely that she would impress a male dragon, she sat back on her heels and watched the two to avoid getting trampled, and otherwise watched the dwindling clutch for more movement.

Merik gave a little gasp when he saw the Bronze at first- who didn't? There was a reason they were regarded as so... amazing. Even covered in sand and egg goo, it shined like it was really made of metal. Not a beast for him, not by a loooong shot. But really, really beautiful regardless.

Merik wasn't one to spend time dreaming on things that couldn't happen- a Bronzerider had to be able to take position with a weyrwoman, and that wasn't anywhere on his list of things to do. He ignored the Bronze without much difficulty. Color aside, that Blue was much more interesting. It was enormous! A big one, strong and sturdy. Not bothered with looking elegant, either. He loved it! It seemed calm, too, that was good. The Hatching had had an awful opening, but it was so much happier an event with the bloodthirsties Impressed and out of the way. And this solid (not-so) little Blue, he couldn't wait to see what it did next. Meirk's heart leaped at the chance for this one, and he crossed his fingers behind his back that it wouldn't stagger off towards the girls.

Redhath held himself up proudly under the gaze of the queen. I am perfect, he announced, confidence oozing from every pore. Of course, he made no move to prove it. He knew he was, and that was quite enough for him, thank you very much! He glared at the meat offered to him by M’al and delicately chose what he considered to be the best cuts.

“Still just M’al,” the Weyrling said as he continued to cut up the meat into smaller bits. “And don’t make that face at me, Rin. If you must know, my mom was going to name me Mial originally, but I thought it sounded too much like the noise a baby Feline makes.”

Not exactly true, but it was more amusing than the truth which was just that his mom had worse spelling abilities than him.

The Blue dragon----who, by now, did know the truth---snickered into his food. Now this was a fun game… and if he kept by the queen, his future would be fun too, now wouldn’t it?

Ah, so there'd be at least one bronze in this clutch! Velrun eyed it with a sort of distanced curiosity. It seemed a fine size...but then the blue who had hatched just prior was more stunning for his unusual size. The blue would grow to be a real beast, and was certainly nothing to look down upon. So far neither seemed unruly, but the were freshly hatched. The blue's stumbling was endearing for now, but if it continued it may grow frustrated and then angry.

He took a step or two forward, not nearly enough to distance himself from the crowd, but just to get one row of candidates closer to the dragonets. Yes they did seem quite fit and able. He still couldn't believe the size of the blue...Simply amazing.

Silute was beginning to grow easier now that the dragonets didn't seem intent on bloodying more people up. Witnessing the Blue and Green dragonet Impressing, he couldn't help but smile at the new Weyrlings. He was genuinely a pleasant sort of person, who was happy most of the time, and truly upset rarely. Of course, with dangerous dragonets searching for their bondeds, he was right to be a little anxious and a little frightened. But, the tension was slowly easing out of his shoulders, muscles relaxing even as new dragonets were starting to hatch.

A very large blue hatched, and Silute couldn't help but express a momentary 'ow' on his face as the dragonet stumbled out from its egg shell. The poor thing didn't seem to have any grace at all... definitely not like the newlly hatched bronze dragonet. He seemed to steal the show in a heartbeat, and Silute couldn't help but let his interest be piqued. The bronze truly was magnificent, standing still and with as much glory as the thing seemed capable of mustering, while in the background his blue brother seemed to struggle with his large size.

A blue and a bronze! Oh my! There was bound to be two happy little boys over in that little huddle of it's own.. but..
...
....
No, nothing for her once again. There was nothing she could do for them at this point. She wasn't the blue's and the bronze would only impress upon a boy -- she'd learned at least that much in the time she was there. Oh Faranth.. this was all becoming so nervewrecking, wasn't it? (And thus Pach made a really short post because Alanna R Lame and have no friends.. ;; )

Kiera turned her attention from the newly bonded pair toward the hatched pair now looking around. The little... no, not little. The big blue stumbled around, and Kiera felt a bubble of laughter come from her lips. Poo dear. But she quickly glanced at the brown...no, it was bronze! So strange. He came forward pridefully. A little too pridefully. But she grinned nonetheless.

"Such fine dragons!" She squeaked softly, laughing, truly happy at the sight of the two.
