Amora glanced at the window, then looked at Gilead and Lanaea, who seemed to be in the middle of a serious discussion, and then glanced back at Lin.

"Anything else that catches your eye?" she asked with a smile.

Lin's eyes glazed over the rest of the objects in the shop until they landed upon some boxes, perhaps meant for jewelery, or some other keepsake. Her fingers lightly brushed upon the top of the box's lids where most of the carvings were.

She lifted up on lid to reveal there were a few smaller compartments.

"I wonder if there are any hidden compartments," Lin murmured.

She knew it was possible and the idea had struck her of a hiding place as a child (mainly to hide candy).

Amora peered over Lin's shoulder at the box in her hands, examing the box from that angle.

"You could always ask," she suggested. "I've heard rumours of such things, but I have never seen them for myself."

She glanced up at Lanaea, who was shaking her head at her brother.

Lin looked over to where Lanaea was thoughtfully, she really was curious even though honestly she also knew it was probably an odd question. Why would anyone need a hidden compartment anyways (ditching whatever answer she knew her father would have said had he been there).

"I've seen a puzzle box, but heard of boxes with hidden places from my father."

She turned slightly knowing that Lanaea and her brother were probably still talking.

Now it was Amora's turn to be curious. "Puzzle boxes?" she repeated, tilting her head slightly. "How interesting ... what are they?"

She also turned to look at Lanaea, wondering if perhaps she made those types of boxes as well.

Lanaea was indeed still in a discussion with her brother, but she seemed to disagree with him on something, for she turned her head away from him and spotted the two girls looking at her. She smiled warmly at them and stepped nearer to them. "Is there something I can help you with?" she asked them cheerfully.

Lin was about to explain until Lanaea answered and she motioned she would explain later. Looking back at Lanaea, Lin held up the box and explained.

"I heard from my father that there are boxes made with hidden compartments, I wondered if you made any boxes like that."

Though Lin couldn't imagine what would be important that would need hidden, though she was sure her father could list several things, probably having poison on the list as he did so.

Lanaea smiled and moved to take the box carefully from Lin's hands. "Some," she nodded, moving towards the shelf where Lin had taken the box from, "but not this one."

She replaced it where it belonged and ran her fingers lightly along the shelf until she found one that looked almost the same as the one Lin had been holding, but with a slightly more intricate design. She turned and placed this box into Lin's hands.

"With this box, the top opens like a regular one, and in the top are a few compartments for jewelry - rings, earrings, and the like. Then, at the bottom of the front, is a little drawer, for necklaces and such ..."

She demonstrated, pulling out the little drawer.

"However, you may notice that the back of the box is thicker than the drawer are deep," she added with a sparkle in her eye. "Look at this."

She turned the box around and used the tip of her fingernail to touch a spring disguised as one of the hinges for the lid, and suddenly a large section of the back popped out.

"Large enough for a small pouch of coins if you like," Lanaea smiled proudly, "but almost impossible to tell that it's there unless you know it is."

Lin exclaimed in delight as she watched the back pop out. Now she certainly hadn't been expecting that (but then again it made sense didn't it?).

"That is amazing," Lin murmured.

She peeked in and thought that would be a neat gift for someone, you just could have to hide something in there first.

Lanaea appeared pleased by Lin's reaction.

"It's one of the simpler ones, but also the largest," she told her, watching her eagerly. "I also make them custom to the desires of the customer, so if you're interested, I could draw up some plans to your specifications."

Clearly this was one of her passions, though in truth she was passionate about almost everything she made.

Lin would have loved that, but she wasn't sure how long such a project would take, or if she could afford it, or the many other what ifs that ran through her mind.

Not to mention a tiny voice reminded her in the back of her head she would have to leave such a box home once she started to travel... Yet, a small traitorous part of her mind reminded her she had been given a good sum allowance for trips like this. Normal by Gaia standards ridiculously large she knew here.

"How long would such a venture take and what would your asking price be?" she finally asked, "These are amazing so...."

She never brought much her more rebellious (non-practical) part of herself argued. The cellphone had been the largest luxury she had ever given herself, and even then she knew her father had been relieved and pleased when she asked for it.

He worried to much.

Besides she argued with herself, she hadn't gotten anything truly girly since she out grew dolls.

"Well, it would depend on the complexity, of course," Lanaea said thoughtfully, "but they usually don't take more than a week. Usually less. Price also depends on the complexity, generally ... twenty to thirty gold, rarely more."

She didn't need money for anythong really other than food and clothes, and she always made sure that her prices were fair. In fact, they were often so fair that people gave her more than she asked.

Lin didn't have to think about it hard, she could stand to stay a few more days (it wasn't like anyone back home would notice), and the price guessing price was very reasonable, and if it was more she was sure it would be fine.

She had also already decided that maybe it could hold something personal from home when she went too.

Nodding, Lin smiled, "Perfect, I was mainly wondering about time, because I can't be here for a long time. It's my first trip out without actually having to ask for permission, but that doesn't make my father worry any less."

"Ah," Lanaea giggled, glancing briefly towards her brother. "I understand. Even when you are perfectly capable of taking care of yourself, and there is nothing to worry about, those who love us still worry about us, yes?"

She put one hand gently on Lin's shoulder and smiled warmly at her. "If you need it within a certain period of time, I can focus on it and get it done sooner. Normally I would work on a few projects at a time, but I do not have to do so."

Lin had to giggle at that, of course they had just talked not too long ago about Lanaea herself so it was only natural. She could only imagine what they had been talking about earlier.

She nodded at this, "I said I would be staying about a week here before heading back, I can stay a few days longer but no more than that."

Lanaea smiled warmly at Lin and nodded. "Then why don't we step back to my desk and get the plans drawn out," she suggested, "and when it's finished, I can send a messenger to where you're staying -- the inn?"

As she spoke, she gently guided Lin towards the desk in the corner of the room that had paperwork on it, and when they reached it she began to clear it off.
