Earendil chuckled at Lin and ruffled her hair affectionately. "You do realize that you can almost count yourself as one of us," he winked at her. "For all your visits, and you've just about had a royal education ... history, writing, reading, speaking all the languages ... you've even got some of our physical training. First and only human ever to do so. You really should be proud of yourself."

He bent over and murmured in her ear, "I am."

Lin blushed, she hadn't thought like that, she knew she was obsessive about learning and training, and that's what she tended to write it off as, as her being obsessive.

"Thanks," she replied back, "And I'm still working on all the languages part."

She had figured learning human tongue would be very useful to her in the future.

"I've been toying with asking for lessons in Human tongue, I mean... everyone back in Gaia speaks Common tongue, but we call it English."

Earendil grinned at Lin. "And why not?" he asked her. "You're human, it's as logical an idea as I've ever heard. Besides, when you travel, the more languages you know, the better - better chance of being able to communicate with people you meet."

He nodded. "Perhaps ask Sir Valdemar once we get back."

Even after all her time here, Lin still thought it was strange. Human tongue, there was no such thing in Gaia, like the elves there was more than one language, though even the elves didn't have as many languages as the humans in Gaia did.

"I could... but he's getting ready to travel soon, and at the moment he's busy," Lin frowned remembering suddenly the stuff that had been happening before, "He'll be too busy to teach."

Earendil spread his hands in an inviting gesture.

"I could teach you," he told her with a grin. "After all, I had to learn it once, too - I train the Home Guard on the mountaintop, why not teach you languages?"

After all, it couldn't be all that different from training, could it? Sure he had never taught a language before, but ... how hard could it be?

"And you did help teach Celebor after uhm... that little surprise I pulled on Sir Valdemar back then," Lin giggled thinking back on it.

Poor Sir Valdemar, it really wasn't fair to him that this had to happen. Then again it wasn't fair to Aragost neither.

"I would like that very much."

"And Celebor was your age," Earendil mused, nodding thoughtfully. "Then it's a deal. I'll teach you, and you ..."

His eyes glinted mischievously. "What's your part of the deal?"

Lin looked thoughtful, that was a good question, what was she going to do? Last time it was candy, but she didn't think that would work on Earendil... and Ahren had been really little (like she had been at the time) when she learned to ride a horse.

"Hmm... I don't know...." she noted the way he looked though, "But do you have an idea brewing up there?" she tapped her head.

Earendil chuckled and shook his head. "Though I'm certain we'll think of something eventually," he winked. "After all, you're a bright girl. And once we do go traveling, there will be lots of time for both of us to figure something out."

He glanced over at Aranhil, who was deep in conversation with his customer. "Perhaps we should say goodbye and let him get back to his work ..."

"Good idea...." Lin murmured glancing over at Aranhil, "Besides there's still more places to go to...."

So they shouldn't stay too long here themselves.

Earendil nodded. "And we do have to make it back to the palace before dinner," he agreed. "Come."

He led her towards the door. As they drew near Aranhil and his customer, it became apparent that the man was seriously looking at Aranhil's wares, and would be a while. Earendil waved at Aranhil. "We'll be back," he mouthed, backing towards the door.

Aranhil smiled and nodded to show that he understood, waving at Lin and the prince as they headed past.

Lin waved back heading out the door with Earendil. The sun beating down on her skin, it was amazing how things were different here. After all it was cold back home, but she liked it like this. She could wear her nomral clothes, instead of winter clothes.

And boots... she really didn't like boots.

"Where to next?"

"Well," Earendil grinned, stretching a bit and taking in the warm sunshine, "you said you also wanted to visit my great-grandparents, and some of my friends, right? I'll leave it to you where we go next."

I really didn't matter, they were all in the same area.

Lin thought about it, either one of them would be good to try. She had to think about it though...

"How about your friends?" she suggested.

Start with something unfamiliar and then end with familiar. Though she was sure it was going to be fine.

Earendil's dark eyes lit up brightly, and he nodded happily.

"With pleasure," he replied, heading towards the end of the street. "They own a shop here, the sweetshop, actually, and they live above it."

He winked down at Lin. "Maybe we can pick something up on the way out."
